When should you use a raft?

I'm just wondering if when printing with ABS (lots of warping) if printing with a raft might not help stop that. What do you guys think?

It might, it might also make things worse (if the raft is not easily removable).
    YMMV

My own experience does not show a raft helping much with ABS warp. The only sure solution is to stabilize the temperature of the model (it warps when it cools too fast).

Rafts help warping on ABS by allowing the strain of the filament cooling to be translated onto the gaps in the raft and not the part.

If you can't stop warping on a print raft is a good option.

But they can be hard to remove

I've used brim to stop warping (and bed adhesion problems on some models). Brims are easier to remove in my experience.

I have had ABS warp so bad that it pulled away from the raft. That was on an UP! mini that is enclosed as well.
