Oct 2, 2015 at 12:26 PM - NFOsec: why do you ask?
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:26 PM - Mike Kelly: MG would you be willing to send me your cobra design? i want to make one for my dad
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:26 PM - NFOsec: jbig: what do you forsee as the problem?
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:26 PM - Mike Glass: hmm specs say 60000
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:26 PM - NFOsec: yeah same here, but my father passed away 12 years ago, so it will be for me.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:26 PM - NFOsec: like I said, don't know, might take 60000 steps per sec or something.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:27 PM - donhuevo: that first laser test looked an awful lot like a penis. what's up with that?
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:27 PM - Mike Glass: lol I was gonna say
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:27 PM - Mike Kelly: and then there's don
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:27 PM - Mike Glass: how does a cobra look like a penis?
    Oct 2, 2015 at 12:28 PM - jbigler1986: don just like penis'
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:28 PM - donhuevo: looked way more like a penis and sack than it did a cobra
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:28 PM - Mike Kelly: don sees what he likes
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:28 PM - Mike Glass: haha
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:28 PM - NFOsec: I might print glod filament prop guards for the DJI P3Pro
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:29 PM - NFOsec: if it has a horn, it's don.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:29 PM - NFOsec: Don, I don't know how you developed this reputation, but you remind me of Horny Mike from Counts Customs.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:30 PM - donhuevo: my reputation is entirely in your head
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:31 PM - WheresWaldo: Afternoon all
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:31 PM - donhuevo: hey Waldo
    Oct 2, 2015 at 12:31 PM - daniel871: Hey Waldo.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:31 PM - Mike Kelly: hey
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:32 PM - WheresWaldo: Don, got my TFT screen yesterday, been playing with the firmware a bit more.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:32 PM - donhuevo: excellent. I was gonna ask
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:32 PM - WheresWaldo: The touchscreen is not very responsive.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:32 PM - donhuevo: not the greatest and it seems like calibration is necessary if you completely power it down
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:32 PM - daniel871: If I were superstitious I'd say my Robo insulted an old gypsy woman or something.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:33 PM - WheresWaldo: Also mine has a jumper to power from USB, so I don't need 12v
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:33 PM - WheresWaldo: Actually every time I calibrate the screen becomes totally non-responsive only way to fix it is to reload the firmware.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:34 PM - WheresWaldo: At least that is fairly easy.
    Oct 2, 2015 at 12:34 PM - donhuevo: didn't have THAT happen
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:34 PM - daniel871: "nozzle clogs!" In a raspy, quavering voice.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:34 PM - WheresWaldo: Although I had to dig through a few drawers to find an SD card, everything I own in MicroSD
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:34 PM - donhuevo: I think I may have gotten older iterations of both the TFT and main board
    Oct 2, 2015 at 12:35 PM - WheresWaldo: My board is v1.2
    Oct 2, 2015 at 12:35 PM - Mike Kelly: https://www.facebook.com/Simprex.AB3D food printer
    Oct 2, 2015 at 12:35 PM - Mike Kelly: that's... a lot of marbles
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:35 PM - donhuevo: I think that makes me the winner of that bet
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:35 PM - NFOsec: so jbig, what would be your concerns about not being able to procur from alibabababa
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:36 PM - WheresWaldo: SBase board is v1.1, supposed to solve a power problem with the 1.0 board, but the heatsinks are mounted on the wrong side of the stepper controllers.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:37 PM - WheresWaldo: Sould be mounted on the bottom, under the PC board, not on the plastic top of the chips.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:38 PM - donhuevo: I'm not sure what versions I have right now. I'll take a peek when I get home
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:39 PM - WheresWaldo: I found the ReadyPrint string and changed it on mine and everything appears to be working. Even though it is for the Spider I am building, I will try it on the Robo just for kicks and grins.
    Oct 2, 2015 at 12:41 PM - donhuevo: cool
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:42 PM - WheresWaldo: BTW, I think the Material Design Color icons make it look like something from this century, not like the fugly icons Makerbase used. It looks better if you set 3d to 0 in the config. I don't have the WiFi but I think you can change the default settings in the firmware, outside of mks_config.txt
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:44 PM - donhuevo: yep... that wifi module won't fit in my case I don't think
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:45 PM - donhuevo: alrighty... hitting the road. back in a bit
    Oct 2, 2015 at 12:46 PM - WheresWaldo: I'll post a pic later.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:49 PM - jbigler1986: NFO i don't doubt that I will get the printer. How long it takes is a different story
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:49 PM - jbigler1986: Waldo that code worked on my current version of marlin
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:52 PM - NFOsec: well, what terms did you use for shipping, and how did you pay?
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:53 PM - WheresWaldo: Cool, did you mod UltraLCD or go the G-code route?
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:53 PM - jbigler1986: paid with debit card. Shipping I just left it however they had it. Says will deliver in 3 days. Highly doubt that
    Oct 2, 2015 at 12:54 PM - jbigler1986: I moddified ultralcd.cpp. not ultralcd.h
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:54 PM - WheresWaldo: Yeah, figured you just mis-spoke before, knew it was in .cpp.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:55 PM - jbigler1986: well the guy said it was in ultralcd.h
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:56 PM - NFOsec: mmm... well, I'd really love to try to order those commemorative coins then. I could buy 100 for $30, maybe comparable cost in shipping, but make $5-7 profit on each one.
Oct 2, 2015 at 12:57 PM - jbigler1986: yeah i have never ordered from them before
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:00 PM - jbigler1986: so the seller doesn't actually get the money until you confirm that you received the item
    Oct 2, 2015 at 1:01 PM - NFOsec: I see.
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:01 PM - Mike Kelly: nice
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:02 PM - jbigler1986: they hold the money in "escrow"
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:02 PM - NFOsec: probably where Aliiiiababababaabah makes their money.,
    Oct 2, 2015 at 1:02 PM - jbigler1986: lol
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:03 PM - NFOsec: I'm reminded of Achmed from Jeff Dunnaham (yeah, I know, Dunham but That purple monkey said it better).
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:03 PM - NFOsec: Achmed: Thank God. er I mean Allah.
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:09 PM - NFOsec: mmm... so in S3D, aligning a part to the bed didn't come in as default, rotating it shows it's not "level", any way to flatten it to the bed based on a face?
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:11 PM - Mike Kelly: there's something ironic about storing a calculator in a laptop bag
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:13 PM - NFOsec: any thoughts MK on dropping a part flat to a bed that was in wrong rotation?
    Oct 2, 2015 at 1:15 PM - jbigler1986: the align button doesn't fix it?
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:16 PM - NFOsec: actually, you need to drop to table after having the main face down.
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:16 PM - NFOsec: ok, going to start printing rotor guards.
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:17 PM - NFOsec: in Glod.
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:23 PM - Kevin Nguyen: so my e3d nozzle is clogged and im wondering if i can soak it in nail polish remover to help it out
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:26 PM - jbigler1986: what material were you printing
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:27 PM - Kevin Nguyen: abs
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:27 PM - Kevin Nguyen: ive tried a bunch of tricks to get it unclogged but no luck
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:51 PM - NFOsec: have you raised the temperature and try to push another filament through?
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:52 PM - NFOsec: unfortunately I'm not using the E3D set up, just the R1+
Oct 2, 2015 at 1:52 PM - NFOsec: hex stock.
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:04 PM - Mike Kelly: this is why i keep spare nozzles around
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:08 PM - Michael1969mgb: just installed full graphic lcd controller and prints are all bad, anyone have any ideas
    Oct 2, 2015 at 2:09 PM - jbigler1986: wouldn't be bc of that
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:09 PM - Mike Kelly: unplug the lcd and see if it's related
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:11 PM - Michael1969mgb: plugged in laptop and printed same print same aetting with Cura and came out great.
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:11 PM - Kevin Nguyen: nah the nozzle is clogged with something foreign like dust
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:20 PM - Mike Kelly: guitar string or bristle from a brass bristle brush usually does well for me
    Oct 2, 2015 at 2:23 PM - danzca6: M565 Z-1.0 as z offset. if I want to go up a bit (elephant foot a bit on prints) would I change from -1.0 to -.9?
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:24 PM - Mike Kelly: more negative = further from bed
    Oct 2, 2015 at 2:24 PM - danzca6: ok..so -1.1
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:24 PM - Mike Kelly: right
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:24 PM - danzca6: .1 increments small enough to start or should I go smaller
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:27 PM - Michael1969mgb: im at -.8 right now and cura works great at that setting, saved g-code to sd card put it lcd and print is bad
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:31 PM - Mike Kelly: it really wouldn't make a difference tbh
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:32 PM - Mike Kelly: you could try starting the print from the sd card via repetier
    Oct 2, 2015 at 2:33 PM - Michael1969mgb: repetier?
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:35 PM - danzca6: thanks MK. I put that in the startup gcode comments so I don't ask the same dumb question next time
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:54 PM - Mike Glass: MK sent you the cobra on skype
Oct 2, 2015 at 2:55 PM - Mike Glass: NFO, if you want it let me know how I can send it, I have an issue right now, so when your back I need your help
Oct 2, 2015 at 3:50 PM - Mike Glass: man it got quiet

Oct 2, 2015 at 8:31 PM - Mattchu: oh, and I may have to get a laser...after taking a look ath the price of remstock at ridout...damn, I'd be stupid not too.
Oct 2, 2015 at 8:45 PM - Mike Glass: really how much?
    Oct 2, 2015 at 8:48 PM - Mattchu: a dollar a lb
Oct 2, 2015 at 8:48 PM - Mattchu: lbs even
Oct 2, 2015 at 8:49 PM - Mattchu: or, they have precut sheets of 1/4" acrolyte that are 11x13 for a buck each
Oct 2, 2015 at 8:49 PM - Mattchu: still with the scratch preventative/layout covering on it in great shape
Oct 2, 2015 at 8:51 PM - Mattchu: acrolite = name brand USA acrylic
Oct 2, 2015 at 8:52 PM - Mike Glass: dange
    Oct 2, 2015 at 8:52 PM - Mike Glass: I just paid 10 bucks for 24x12 1/8
    Oct 2, 2015 at 8:52 PM - Mattchu: that's still a great price!
Oct 2, 2015 at 8:53 PM - Mike Glass: man 500mm/s on these machines is cool

Oct 2, 2015 9:02 PM - Mike Glass: almost done, just cutting out the outside now.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:05 PM - Mattchu: wootness!
    Oct 2, 2015 9:05 PM - Mattchu: 5mm plywood?
    Oct 2, 2015 9:08 PM - NFOsec: hello.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:09 PM - Mattchu: evening nfo
    Oct 2, 2015 9:09 PM - NFOsec: evening...
Oct 2, 2015 9:09 PM - NFOsec: I see MG likes one of my favorite cutting projects.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:11 PM - NFOsec: what's going on this evening?
Oct 2, 2015 9:13 PM - Mattchu: I'm getting ready for makerfaire tomorrow
Oct 2, 2015 9:13 PM - Mattchu: hoping to not spend ALL my money.
Oct 2, 2015 9:13 PM - NFOsec: that should be fun.
Oct 2, 2015 9:13 PM - NFOsec: I wish they had another one soon.
Oct 2, 2015 9:14 PM - Mike Glass: dang did size it big enough..ugg
Oct 2, 2015 9:14 PM - NFOsec: just make a list when you get there, then prioritize it before you buy, that way it won't be impulse.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:14 PM - NFOsec: say wah?
    Oct 2, 2015 9:14 PM - Mattchu: ...I own 3 toolboxes NFO >_<
Oct 2, 2015 9:15 PM - Mattchu: one for home, one for work, and one waiting for the right owner
Oct 2, 2015 9:15 PM - Mattchu: It's impossible for me not to impulse :p
Oct 2, 2015 9:16 PM - NFOsec: well, there's your first problem. you need to have one that is portable, easy to transport, and can be used in all 3 places. :)
Oct 2, 2015 9:16 PM - NFOsec: been there, done that, totally get it.
Oct 2, 2015 9:16 PM - Mattchu: I do need one for the car
Oct 2, 2015 9:17 PM - NFOsec: Tony Curtis, an old time actor actually kept a full pack of cigarettes and matches on every flat surface of his home, and I believe he became a father for the first time when he was 77 years old or so.
Oct 2, 2015 9:17 PM - Mattchu: and it'll need dial calipers, a set of micrometers, a set of check shim, and a few other things in it
Oct 2, 2015 9:18 PM - Mattchu: check shim/feeler gage set is probably one of the best tools that no one ever owns.
Oct 2, 2015 9:18 PM - Mike Glass: [IMG] it actaully works but need to be bigger for this book.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:18 PM - Mattchu: duuuude that's rad!
Oct 2, 2015 9:18 PM - NFOsec: nice job MG. I'm kind of happy for you.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:18 PM - NFOsec: kind of.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:18 PM - Mattchu: I'm envious as hell
Oct 2, 2015 9:18 PM - NFOsec: I would pretend to be jealous, but why? LOL. :)
    Oct 2, 2015 9:19 PM - Mike Glass: lol
    Oct 2, 2015 9:19 PM - Mattchu: because you're not jealous, you're envious ;)
    Oct 2, 2015 9:19 PM - NFOsec: not me.
Oct 2, 2015 9:19 PM - Mattchu: unless MG bought the last one ever of this laser from under you...then be jealous away lol
Oct 2, 2015 9:19 PM - NFOsec: MG knows why...
    Oct 2, 2015 9:19 PM - Mattchu: I'm definitely covetous :p
Oct 2, 2015 9:21 PM - NFOsec: unless you can come up with another word that doesn't use 'ious or ous' to describe your feelings, you're probably just plain drooling with a non-euphoric sensation that predicates the fact you shit in your pants by what he's done.
Oct 2, 2015 9:21 PM - NFOsec: if that makes any sense. :) lol.
Oct 2, 2015 9:22 PM - Mattchu: very close to that yes lol...pants crapping is reserved for when someone crashed something REALLY big and REALLY loud at work
Oct 2, 2015 9:23 PM - Mike Glass: ok now im on to bottles, where do I start
Oct 2, 2015 9:23 PM - Mattchu: does it calculate circumference?
Oct 2, 2015 9:23 PM - NFOsec: well, speed is everything, and power is too.
Oct 2, 2015 9:24 PM - NFOsec: several things to note. start with lower power requirements until you get the idea on how much shards away.
Oct 2, 2015 9:24 PM - NFOsec: important, if you mask, be careful when removing since we're talking about micro-shards, so you don't want glass in your eyes. :)
Oct 2, 2015 9:24 PM - NFOsec: glass/bottles are not like wood, the glass doesn't evaporate.
Oct 2, 2015 9:24 PM - Mike Glass: they say green glass is the best, I have totes full of those
Oct 2, 2015 9:25 PM - Mike Glass: nope its messy I hear
Oct 2, 2015 9:25 PM - NFOsec: well, any glass that is translucent or opaque are great.
Oct 2, 2015 9:25 PM - NFOsec: not really messy, just have to watch the shards.
Oct 2, 2015 9:25 PM - Mike Glass: cant be any worse then all the bits of metal they left for me to clean up
Oct 2, 2015 9:26 PM - NFOsec: almost seems like dust. what I do is after engraving, I put some of the painters mask over the area done, that is the fast way of picking the pieces up, then rinse off directly into a utility tub or sink.
Oct 2, 2015 9:26 PM - NFOsec: you would think.
Oct 2, 2015 9:26 PM - NFOsec: I have a feeling you're going to return your system soon.
Oct 2, 2015 9:26 PM - NFOsec: so sorry to hear that.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:26 PM - NFOsec: LOL...
Oct 2, 2015 9:26 PM - Mike Glass: I had a issue earlier it wouldnt cut all the way through if I went to the bottom right of the bed.
Oct 2, 2015 9:27 PM - NFOsec: well, we had talked about that, got that squared away I hope?
Oct 2, 2015 9:27 PM - Mike Glass: then I rechecked the alignment it was way off on that corner so I aligned the laser to perfection.
Oct 2, 2015 9:28 PM - Mike Glass: yea this book was the whole bed pretty much only had a few spots that didnt cut through, must be the glue or something in the wood.
Oct 2, 2015 9:29 PM - Mike Glass: but its also 5mm ply and only using 70% power
Oct 2, 2015 9:30 PM - NFOsec: not entirely may have been the leveling of the bed, that accounts for 90% of those cut through problems.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:30 PM - NFOsec: the other 10% is material/improper speed/power settings.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:30 PM - NFOsec: actually I meant 80/20.
Oct 2, 2015 9:31 PM - NFOsec: I just don't like increasing power for the sake of compensation because you can burn or create undesired marks.
Oct 2, 2015 9:31 PM - Mike Glass: yea no marks on the back at all
Oct 2, 2015 9:33 PM - Mike Glass: man this is going to save me lots of time from the cnc engraving I do.
Oct 2, 2015 9:33 PM - Mike Glass: Have you done rocks before?
Oct 2, 2015 9:34 PM - NFOsec: yeah, lots of rocks.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:34 PM - NFOsec: why?
Oct 2, 2015 9:35 PM - Mike Glass: On the laser?
Oct 2, 2015 9:35 PM - NFOsec: you have to be careful with those that have high quartz or reflective mineral properties because they kind of bounce off.
Oct 2, 2015 9:35 PM - Mike Glass: any type of rock, or what?
Oct 2, 2015 9:35 PM - NFOsec: yeah, you can "etch" to a degree. I also do Corian/Candlestone stock stuff for lithophanes.
Oct 2, 2015 9:36 PM - NFOsec: well, pet rocks mostly. LOL.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:36 PM - Mike Glass: lol
Oct 2, 2015 9:36 PM - NFOsec: what are you thinking?
    Oct 2, 2015 9:37 PM - NFOsec: Mike F. had written a decent tid-bit on it and has a few links. https://www.engraversjournal.com/article.php/2131/index.html
Oct 2, 2015 9:38 PM - NFOsec: marble is the most common "rock" I've done.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:38 PM - Mike Glass: neat
Oct 2, 2015 9:38 PM - Mike Glass: ok this bottle engrave what do I need to start.
Oct 2, 2015 9:38 PM - NFOsec: but I have a link of sourced "rocks" touse if you wish. Laserbits has really cool black marble tiles, but at $5-6 each for a 6x6" I cringe...
Oct 2, 2015 9:39 PM - NFOsec: well, there are a couple things, you can actually place the bottle on something to keep it stationary (I actually did a sort of flat wine-rack holder).
Oct 2, 2015 9:39 PM - Mike Glass: I have the jig for mine
Oct 2, 2015 9:40 PM - NFOsec: if you're not doing something going beyond the curves too much you don't need to do much other than treat it like the same materil for rastering. however, you would measure the focus point to be the deepest area (such as the curve).
Oct 2, 2015 9:40 PM - Mike Glass: or the motorized thing that came with it
    Oct 2, 2015 9:40 PM - NFOsec: yeah, so do I.
Oct 2, 2015 9:40 PM - Mike Glass: I need it to wrap around
Oct 2, 2015 9:40 PM - NFOsec: the connection for the jig is in the upper right corner above the rail for the X
Oct 2, 2015 9:41 PM - Mike Glass: Ok see that plug
    Oct 2, 2015 9:41 PM - NFOsec: it's sort of a screw with 4 prong plug.
Oct 2, 2015 9:41 PM - NFOsec: that's what you'll be pulling out and CAREFULLY lay behind the rail and then connect the jig to it.
Oct 2, 2015 9:42 PM - Mike Glass: I found out what the white tape is for btw
Oct 2, 2015 9:42 PM - Mike Glass: its for aligning the laser
Oct 2, 2015 9:43 PM - NFOsec: in my case, I don't remember exactly, but my jig rods were originally going parrallel to the X rail but I had to for some reason flip the art, mirror stuff, etc. I think in the end I had it going Y axis parallel then moved the laser head to the starting level on the bottle, set origin button on the laser control panel (just below the arrows) then ran a test job.
Oct 2, 2015 9:45 PM - NFOsec: it's been a little while, but the rollers would turn to basically address the next lines to raster, and the laser head would be static left right.
Oct 2, 2015 9:45 PM - NFOsec: sometimes I used rubber bands or tape or something to make sure bottle was secure and turning freely because if it bounces around, your rastering won't be pretty.,
Oct 2, 2015 9:45 PM - NFOsec: you can turn it by hand and see the impact.
Oct 2, 2015 9:45 PM - NFOsec: what size were you using for the book?
Oct 2, 2015 9:45 PM - Mike Glass: on the bottle right
    Oct 2, 2015 9:46 PM - NFOsec: I used 1/8" birch plywood.

    Oct 2, 2015 9:46 PM - Mike Glass: 5mm birch ply
Oct 2, 2015 9:46 PM - NFOsec: on the bottle? no, open it, drink it, talk yourself silly, smack the wife around, then go to bed.
Oct 2, 2015 9:47 PM - NFOsec: not bad. I only have 1/8th". so what speed/power did you set it for?
Oct 2, 2015 9:47 PM - Mike Glass: no rubber bands on the bottle..lol
    Oct 2, 2015 9:47 PM - Mike Glass: 11 speed and 70 for power
Oct 2, 2015 9:48 PM - NFOsec: oh, it depends on whether or not the bottle turns smoothly on the diamond-cut rollers. mine was a bit flip-floppy.
Oct 2, 2015 9:48 PM - Mike Glass: I should of gone faster
Oct 2, 2015 9:48 PM - NFOsec: very nice job indeed.
Oct 2, 2015 9:48 PM - Mike Glass: faster and stronger would of prevented some darking I think
Oct 2, 2015 9:48 PM - NFOsec: well, not really, definitely not more than 15-20. Epilog's speed was 30 at 100% if I recall.
Oct 2, 2015 9:49 PM - NFOsec: well, that's the reason for the mask I talked about.
Oct 2, 2015 9:49 PM - NFOsec: as far as charring the wood during cuts, that's the most beautiful and normal thing you can do, hard to cut wood without charring with the exception of a water jet cutter.
Oct 2, 2015 9:49 PM - Mike Glass: I tried 15 and 75 seemed to work ok but the glue is the issue for some spots that why i chose slower
Oct 2, 2015 9:50 PM - NFOsec: what was the laser through percentage?
Oct 2, 2015 9:50 PM - Mike Glass: Yea should look nice after tung oil on it.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:50 PM - NFOsec: I think default is 50% and checked.
Oct 2, 2015 9:50 PM - Mike Glass: now what does that do, I saw it but didnt touch it
Oct 2, 2015 9:50 PM - NFOsec: oh, it's beautiful and one of my favorites to do.
Oct 2, 2015 9:51 PM - Mike Glass: tung oil?
Oct 2, 2015 9:51 PM - NFOsec: well, it's sort of saying that the laser throughput would be 50% of whatever max power you set it for. so if you did 70 power, at 50% through, it would be twice as powerful if you set that power to 100.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:51 PM - Mike Glass: or wifes tongue oil..lol
Oct 2, 2015 9:51 PM - NFOsec: no, the cuts.
Oct 2, 2015 9:52 PM - NFOsec: no the cuts what?
Oct 2, 2015 9:53 PM - NFOsec: I'd suggest you take a board of 12x12 birch, run up a vector and raster sample plate of various percentages and desired outcomes (cut, mark, depth cut but not thru, etc.) and raster depths.
Oct 2, 2015 9:54 PM - NFOsec: if you used 40% power and 500 speed for raster, you might get a fine raster, but going to 200-300, the raster is deeper cut and really changes clarity, etc.
Oct 2, 2015 9:54 PM - Mike Glass: yea found that on the pictures today, 550 at 40% worked the best
Oct 2, 2015 9:56 PM - Mike Glass: still lost on th through power, but will learn, not sure how it would be twice as powerfull then 100.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:56 PM - NFOsec: that's probably close, I do 500 at 40 most of the time.
Oct 2, 2015 9:57 PM - NFOsec: what it means is that instead of it pulsing only to the focus, it's going to push down past the part and potentially to the table. hard to explain, let me find that detail and pass it on... I think it's in my notes I sent.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:57 PM - Mike Glass: yea i did 500/ at 35 twas little light.
Oct 2, 2015 9:57 PM - NFOsec: I had some situations where I had to set that off or even turn it to 100%.
Oct 2, 2015 9:57 PM - NFOsec: yeah, on the hardwoods definitely, not so bad for 400-35 on softwoods.
Oct 2, 2015 9:58 PM - Mike Glass: I heard alder was the best for pictures?
Oct 2, 2015 9:58 PM - NFOsec: Alder is probably one of the most popular used for award plaques, etc.
    Oct 2, 2015 9:58 PM - NFOsec: it's definitely a good clarity cutting wood.
Oct 2, 2015 9:59 PM - NFOsec: it's also a bit harder to source locally for me.
Oct 2, 2015 9:59 PM - NFOsec: I use a lot of things suchas poplar, ash, oak, cherry (nice).
Oct 2, 2015 10:00 PM - Mike Glass: I have all the blue stain pine in the world here havent tried any yet.
Oct 2, 2015 10:00 PM - NFOsec: there is a guy that sells 1/4" or 1/8" 3-4" x 18" strips of exotic woods, I had bought a box or two.
Oct 2, 2015 10:00 PM - NFOsec: tell me something,, would you really get excited if I told you something that would make you shit your pants?
    Oct 2, 2015 10:00 PM - NFOsec: LOL.
Oct 2, 2015 10:00 PM - NFOsec: that sounds like an interesting wood to work with.
Oct 2, 2015 10:01 PM - Mike Glass: its really cool stuff, friend owns a mill, I make signs for him, he gives all the wood I want
Oct 2, 2015 10:01 PM - NFOsec: something I bet you always wanted to do or hated the effort/challenge.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:01 PM - Mike Glass: I love a challenge
Oct 2, 2015 10:01 PM - NFOsec: what's your experience on doing inlays?
    Oct 2, 2015 10:02 PM - Mike Glass: done a few
Oct 2, 2015 10:02 PM - NFOsec: Well, I buy scrap veneer wood all the time (exotic or not woods). You can simply raster your patterns at a slower speed, higher power, then, vector cut the exact same patterns out of the veneers.
Oct 2, 2015 10:03 PM - NFOsec: place veneer into raster engraved space and wham.
Oct 2, 2015 10:03 PM - NFOsec: absolute precision cut inlays.
Oct 2, 2015 10:03 PM - NFOsec: I've done chess boards, signs with exotic cut fonts etc.
Oct 2, 2015 10:04 PM - Mike Glass: yea, I need to find a source for veneers, was thinking about that yesterday, I dont think anybody here sells any.
Oct 2, 2015 10:05 PM - NFOsec: actually, let me send you the "store" guy I use on ebay.
Oct 2, 2015 10:05 PM - Mike Glass: this machine is going to need a robot to change out stock..lol
Oct 2, 2015 10:06 PM - Mike Glass: how much memory is in this machine?
    Oct 2, 2015 10:06 PM - NFOsec: http://www.ebay.com/usr/sellsabunch1?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754
Oct 2, 2015 10:07 PM - NFOsec: I don't recall Mike, but I know it's in the book that came in that really cool "zipper pouch".
Oct 2, 2015 10:07 PM - NFOsec: or in the PDF tech spec I gave you.
Oct 2, 2015 10:08 PM - Mike Glass: haha the zipper fell of when I opened it.lol
Oct 2, 2015 10:08 PM - NFOsec: I've had about 40-50 jobs stored and never had a problem, but most of the time I'm doing a wipe and send directly from stored jobs on the comnputer.
Oct 2, 2015 10:08 PM - NFOsec: LOL, mine too.
Oct 2, 2015 10:08 PM - Mike Glass: Im like what the hell, threw it away
Oct 2, 2015 10:09 PM - NFOsec: not me, I complained and they sent me a brand new bag 3 weeks later -- much nicer. :)
Oct 2, 2015 10:09 PM - NFOsec: here's another one I use for the boards. commonly for keychains, fobs, hard letter signs under 4" font sizes.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:09 PM - NFOsec: http://www.ebay.com/usr/monitorseller?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754
Oct 2, 2015 10:10 PM - NFOsec: I also buy the birchwood 1/8" from Spitski
    Oct 2, 2015 10:10 PM - NFOsec: usually like a 40 pack of 12x12".
Oct 2, 2015 10:11 PM - NFOsec: those are VERY handy, but you have better sourcing on that.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:11 PM - NFOsec: I'd love some 3mm, but haven't found that.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:11 PM - NFOsec: I mean 5mm
Oct 2, 2015 10:12 PM - Mike Glass: the luan I had was alot nicer then this stuff I have now. wish I could find some more
    Oct 2, 2015 10:12 PM - NFOsec: have 6mm.
Oct 2, 2015 10:12 PM - Mike Glass: thats what the luan is
    Oct 2, 2015 10:12 PM - NFOsec: I see.
Oct 2, 2015 10:12 PM - Mike Glass: usually just for cabinet backing
Oct 2, 2015 10:13 PM - NFOsec: know what one of my favorite quick projects was?
Oct 2, 2015 10:13 PM - NFOsec: laser cutting custom buttons.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:13 PM - NFOsec: cut/raster/etc.
Oct 2, 2015 10:13 PM - Mike Glass: but its lighter and has a thicker veneer
    Oct 2, 2015 10:13 PM - NFOsec: you could do a 1.2mm lettering.
Oct 2, 2015 10:13 PM - Mike Glass: I saw some projects our there for that today..
Oct 2, 2015 10:13 PM - NFOsec: I've created all types of shapes.
Oct 2, 2015 10:13 PM - NFOsec: well those "files" I gave you have tons of projects and hows.
Oct 2, 2015 10:13 PM - Mike Glass: to bad my wife doesnt sew
Oct 2, 2015 10:14 PM - Mike Glass: I went through most of the video's, but hate the corel crap
Oct 2, 2015 10:14 PM - NFOsec: doesn't matter, any of the local craft or fabric places or even jewelry places love small cuts.
Oct 2, 2015 10:14 PM - Mike Glass: easier for me in solidworks or inkscape
Oct 2, 2015 10:15 PM - Mike Glass: what do you use for buttons then?
Oct 2, 2015 10:15 PM - NFOsec: yeah, I understand, but the reason they were there is because that wasth e industyr standard, I figured with concepts you'll know how to apply toa nother tool.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:15 PM - NFOsec: anything.
Oct 2, 2015 10:15 PM - NFOsec: any of those 1/4" boards I showed you, birch, etc.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:15 PM - NFOsec: I tell you, they're awesome.
Oct 2, 2015 10:16 PM - NFOsec: The Bucky Badger cuts out beautifully and rasters unbelievably on Cherry and others -- I did keychain fobs with him.
Oct 2, 2015 10:16 PM - NFOsec: right now, I'm looking at the cross-application of 3DP and Laser.,
    Oct 2, 2015 10:16 PM - Mike Glass: ?
Oct 2, 2015 10:17 PM - Mike Glass: hey do you have a ruler template to make rulers?
Oct 2, 2015 10:18 PM - Mike Glass: I really wanted that large printer, I get emails from them. things are monsters
    Oct 2, 2015 10:18 PM - NFOsec: yeah, I do.
Oct 2, 2015 10:19 PM - NFOsec: rulers out of wood, there is a template in the files I gave you.
Oct 2, 2015 10:19 PM - Mike Glass: I couldnt imagine the cost of filament to build such big things.

Oct 2, 2015 10:20 PM - NFOsec: It's "ruler_v10" or something as a corel file. import into inkscape or I can export it out for you.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:20 PM - NFOsec: was under the Project_Central_Videos folder.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:20 PM - Mike Glass: I see it now
Oct 2, 2015 10:20 PM - NFOsec: I'm currently printing the rotor guards for my Phantom 3 Pro.
Oct 2, 2015 10:21 PM - NFOsec: was going to do it earlier but talked myself out of it.
Oct 2, 2015 10:21 PM - Mike Glass: I get lost on how to send it to the program to cut in corel
Oct 2, 2015 10:21 PM - NFOsec: actually, did you install corel?
    Oct 2, 2015 10:22 PM - Mike Glass: yes I have 12
Oct 2, 2015 10:22 PM - Mike Glass: it came with it
Oct 2, 2015 10:22 PM - NFOsec: when you do, then you need to do one minor thing, let me pull that detail up.
Oct 2, 2015 10:23 PM - Mike Glass: that ruler shows nothing
    Oct 2, 2015 10:23 PM - Mike Glass: its just a blank
Oct 2, 2015 10:23 PM - NFOsec: yeah, something wrong with the embedded font -- it's not embedded anymore.
Oct 2, 2015 10:24 PM - NFOsec: let me get the other one.
Oct 2, 2015 10:25 PM - NFOsec: anyway, in the options, settings, there is this check box for security to allow VBA or something to run before. you haev to uncheck that, then run the RDWorks install program, select the Corel Draw plug-in and then when you run Corel next, it will have some new toolbar icons.
Oct 2, 2015 10:25 PM - NFOsec: the toolbar icon si essentially a "print to RDWokrs".
Oct 2, 2015 10:25 PM - NFOsec: Moshiprint is also includedb ut I've nEVER taken advantage of that and don't want to. that's like a universal priont driver.
Oct 2, 2015 10:26 PM - NFOsec: the "puzzle" thing from ober.... well worth the $20 for a macro to take ANY pictures you load in and create a puzzle for lasering.
Oct 2, 2015 10:26 PM - NFOsec: both the raster and vector cuts.
Oct 2, 2015 10:27 PM - NFOsec: so, one challenge I've been having with S3D is sometimes I get these parts that are not even properly flattened, I can't seem to know for sure if I've rotated it and dproped it to the table enough that it is flat entirely, what appeared to be once ended up with a bunch of crtappy support underneath in a small 1/16-1/8" area.
Oct 2, 2015 10:28 PM - NFOsec: why folks put stl files out on thingiverse standing on the most obscure point of the model instead of just flat like everyone else. unless they assume everyone has an SLA.
Oct 2, 2015 10:28 PM - Mike Glass: well if you use meshmixer it has a different axis setting just like solidworks
    Oct 2, 2015 10:29 PM - NFOsec: herre are two. http://www.instructables.com/id/Laser-cut-12-in-ruler-made-at-Hexlab-Makerspace/ , http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:41485
Oct 2, 2015 10:29 PM - NFOsec: Oh, so someone may have a program that had a different axis setting.
Oct 2, 2015 10:30 PM - NFOsec: ok, I have NetFabb too, so I'll have to look at that a little more closely.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:30 PM - NFOsec: thanks.
Oct 2, 2015 10:32 PM - Mike Glass: might have to reinstall Still dont see a print to rd
Oct 2, 2015 10:33 PM - NFOsec: it's 2 little icons near the top, looks like: (let me do a screen grab)
Oct 2, 2015 10:34 PM - Mike Glass: damn that cdr wont import, format not supported. must be a newer version
    Oct 2, 2015 10:35 PM - NFOsec: which one?
Oct 2, 2015 10:35 PM - NFOsec: I can grab and export for you.
Oct 2, 2015 10:35 PM - Mike Glass: that ruler
Oct 2, 2015 10:36 PM - Mike Glass: want to make one for each kid
Oct 2, 2015 10:36 PM - Mike Glass: with their names on it
Oct 2, 2015 10:36 PM - NFOsec: one of my favorite sites too... http://www.makercase.com/
Oct 2, 2015 10:36 PM - NFOsec: which ruler, first or second link above?
Oct 2, 2015 10:38 PM - Mike Glass: oh didnt see the second
Oct 2, 2015 10:39 PM - NFOsec: what format do you want?
    Oct 2, 2015 10:40 PM - Mike Glass: wth is a dtd
    Oct 2, 2015 10:40 PM - Mike Glass: dfx
Oct 2, 2015 10:42 PM - NFOsec: typically XML or a document type definition file.
Oct 2, 2015 10:43 PM - NFOsec: unless you deal with computer crap you'll probably never get it. :)
Oct 2, 2015 10:43 PM - Mike Glass: hmm nothing could open it up
    Oct 2, 2015 10:44 PM - NFOsec: [IMG]
Oct 2, 2015 10:44 PM - Mike Glass: well I actually am a computer tech, Im the network engineer, not a programmer..lol
    Oct 2, 2015 10:44 PM - NFOsec: mm...
    Oct 2, 2015 10:44 PM - NFOsec: https://www.dropbox.com/s/p4c6xs4uvl9w6d7/laser_plugin_rdworks_corel.jpg?dl=0
Oct 2, 2015 10:44 PM - NFOsec: can you see that?
Oct 2, 2015 10:46 PM - Mike Glass: yea not on my toolbar
Oct 2, 2015 10:46 PM - NFOsec: does this illustrator work for you? https://www.dropbox.com/s/sw72vgzm653z86o/Ruler_Illustrator.ai?dl=0
Oct 2, 2015 10:47 PM - NFOsec: look at the troubleshooting for installing RDWorks into Corel 12, you have to set some security setting in the options to uncheck some option about allowing VBA or such to load at start up beforehand then it installs and works.
Oct 2, 2015 10:49 PM - Mike Glass: yep that opens in RD
Oct 2, 2015 10:50 PM - Mike Glass: so I changed that now reinstall the plugin?
    Oct 2, 2015 10:50 PM - NFOsec: yeah.
Oct 2, 2015 10:50 PM - NFOsec: just make sure you select the dropdown for Corel and the other one for RDWorks (two quick installs).
Oct 2, 2015 10:51 PM - NFOsec: not sure if the ruler was of quality, but I did export to AI which should be the best you can get from a vector perspective.
Oct 2, 2015 10:51 PM - NFOsec: your wife will have to accuse you of having an affair with your new toy. :)
    Oct 2, 2015 10:52 PM - Mike Glass: its crooked..lol
Oct 2, 2015 10:53 PM - NFOsec: well straighten it.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:54 PM - NFOsec: Ok, I did.
Oct 2, 2015 10:54 PM - NFOsec: try the link to the same file, I replaced it.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:56 PM - NFOsec: well...
Oct 2, 2015 10:56 PM - Mike Glass: hey its straight
    Oct 2, 2015 10:56 PM - NFOsec: naturally.
    Oct 2, 2015 10:56 PM - Mike Glass: thans
    Oct 2, 2015 10:56 PM - Mike Glass: thanks
    Oct 2, 2015 10:56 PM - NFOsec: no problem.
Oct 2, 2015 10:57 PM - Mike Glass: still not icon in stupid ass corel
Oct 2, 2015 10:57 PM - NFOsec: well, against my better judgement I went straight on glass with the rotor guard, one corner lifted, so had to scrap it 30 minutes in.
Oct 2, 2015 10:57 PM - NFOsec: are you displaying the icon toolbars (maybe it's unchecked)?
Oct 2, 2015 10:57 PM - NFOsec: let me find the link on the net for the steps.
Oct 2, 2015 10:58 PM - Mike Glass: it wont even open the cronixie cdr anymore
    Oct 2, 2015 10:58 PM - Mike Glass: I opened them all
Oct 2, 2015 10:58 PM - NFOsec: there are a couple of Youtube vids out there. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...qho3MynDT8mk7vK2enilVA&bvm=bv.104317490,d.cWw
    Oct 2, 2015 10:59 PM - NFOsec: convert cronixie?
Oct 2, 2015 11:00 PM - Mike Glass: naw think im going to unintall and reinstall i keeps on asking to restart everytime I open it
    Oct 2, 2015 11:01 PM - NFOsec: oh ughly.
Oct 2, 2015 11:09 PM - NFOsec: doing one of the rulers myself right now.
Oct 2, 2015 11:09 PM - Mike Glass: out of what material
    Oct 2, 2015 11:10 PM - NFOsec: oh, just a scrape of birch 1/8"
Oct 2, 2015 11:13 PM - NFOsec: turned out ok, didn't have a full 12x sheet on hand right away, but this was with 15/100 (power/speed) for the outside edge and 30/100 for the line cuts (all were "cut"). the outside ruler cut was at 100% thru laser and the number/notches was at 50% definitely too strong though for the numbers/lines, need to take that back a bit.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:14 PM - NFOsec: [IMG]
Oct 2, 2015 11:14 PM - Mike Glass: wow, your robo prints nice..lol
Oct 2, 2015 11:14 PM - NFOsec: but the entire cut took about 1 minute.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:14 PM - NFOsec: yes.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:14 PM - NFOsec: wait, I take that back.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:15 PM - NFOsec: whew.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:15 PM - Mike Glass: did you use a .001 nozzle
Oct 2, 2015 11:15 PM - NFOsec: I think it would be interesting to print a ruler.
Oct 2, 2015 11:15 PM - NFOsec: but I haven't ordered any nozzle sizes other than what we have now, .4?
    Oct 2, 2015 11:15 PM - NFOsec: .04 rather.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:15 PM - Mike Glass: maybe 8"
Oct 2, 2015 11:16 PM - NFOsec: hex from stock R1++ have other nozzle options?
Oct 2, 2015 11:16 PM - NFOsec: my wife said that the spool caps I did looked like they were printed in something finer than the .4 nozzle.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:16 PM - Mike Glass: nope
Oct 2, 2015 11:17 PM - NFOsec: it was a very clean print (slower speeds, nice tempered heat, etc.)
Oct 2, 2015 11:17 PM - Mike Glass: but you can use E3d v6 nozzles on it, thats what I have for my .8 nozzle
Oct 2, 2015 11:18 PM - NFOsec: so, I can put an E3D v6 nozzle on the R1++ set up?
    Oct 2, 2015 11:18 PM - NFOsec: .8, that's "phat"
    Oct 2, 2015 11:18 PM - NFOsec: volcano so-to-speak

Oct 2, 2015 11:18 PM - NFOsec: I hope that ruler design works for you.
Oct 2, 2015 11:19 PM - Mike Glass: You dont need a volcano to use a .8 though
Oct 2, 2015 11:19 PM - Mike Glass: I use it all the time
Oct 2, 2015 11:20 PM - NFOsec: why do you use the .8? faster printing less quality? better blending?
Oct 2, 2015 11:22 PM - NFOsec: mmm... cutting up another ruler,. 8" with some capr on it.
Oct 2, 2015 11:26 PM - Mike Glass: this corel is a pain in my ass
Oct 2, 2015 11:26 PM - NFOsec: what is, getting the print to RD?
Oct 2, 2015 11:27 PM - Mike Glass: everytime I open it wants to restart
Oct 2, 2015 11:27 PM - Mike Glass: the computer
Oct 2, 2015 11:27 PM - NFOsec: not sure what that means OH... wait.
Oct 2, 2015 11:27 PM - NFOsec: set the program to run as administrator.
Oct 2, 2015 11:27 PM - NFOsec: that will help you bypass issues with loading dlls.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:28 PM - NFOsec: wtg dumbass.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:28 PM - NFOsec: lol.
Oct 2, 2015 11:28 PM - Mike Glass: I am the admin to the box
    Oct 2, 2015 11:31 PM - NFOsec: doesn't matter.
Oct 2, 2015 11:31 PM - NFOsec: run as administrator just because you can.
Oct 2, 2015 11:31 PM - NFOsec: see if it takes care of it, never heard about restarting unless you're a phreak.
Oct 2, 2015 11:32 PM - Mike Glass: install as admin?
Oct 2, 2015 11:32 PM - NFOsec: posting an imagine in a minute, just did another cut/raster of a 8" veresion.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:32 PM - NFOsec: yeah.
Oct 2, 2015 11:32 PM - NFOsec: then, run as admin if you're having problems.
Oct 2, 2015 11:32 PM - NFOsec: common issue with windows, it doesn't like people.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:32 PM - NFOsec: lol.
Oct 2, 2015 11:33 PM - Mike Glass: still goes through the config after I start it..lol
Oct 2, 2015 11:35 PM - NFOsec: mmm... I'll have to dig up for the right video and details, I don't think I saved the link. but it might be in my history for Youtube.
Oct 2, 2015 11:36 PM - Mike Glass: I unchecked the one think it tells you, but that made it configure everytime you started it.
Oct 2, 2015 11:36 PM - NFOsec: no, that wouldn't be right though.
Oct 2, 2015 11:36 PM - NFOsec: here is the latest mock up.
Oct 2, 2015 11:37 PM - Mike Glass: much better
    Oct 2, 2015 11:37 PM - NFOsec: [IMG]
    Oct 2, 2015 11:37 PM - NFOsec: yeah, I reduced a few.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:37 PM - Mike Glass: lol
Oct 2, 2015 11:37 PM - NFOsec: still need to reduce the lettering.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:37 PM - NFOsec: what's so funny?
Oct 2, 2015 11:38 PM - NFOsec: you see the customization?
Oct 2, 2015 11:38 PM - Mike Glass: growth stick
    Oct 2, 2015 11:38 PM - NFOsec: it's only an 8" ruler.
    Oct 2, 2015 11:38 PM - NFOsec: LOL.
Oct 2, 2015 11:39 PM - NFOsec: anyway, rolling on 1:43 here, going to hit the sack for about 4-5 hours and make fun of tomorrow if I can.
Oct 2, 2015 11:39 PM - Mike Glass: ok, better get to bed myself, thanks for the help again, nite
Oct 2, 2015 11:39 PM - NFOsec: I want to hit a vertical rise of 200-300m (don't want to dare 400) with the Phantom 3 to see a nice skyline.
Oct 2, 2015 11:39 PM - NFOsec: np man. later.
Oct 3, 2015 6:03 AM - Bill Monroe: good morning

Oct 3, 2015 6:44 AM - Mike Glass: Its been alot of fun
Oct 3, 2015 6:45 AM - danzca6: Sounds like your getting it pretty dialed in
Oct 3, 2015 6:45 AM - Mike Glass: nerve racking at first and kinda scary.
Oct 3, 2015 6:45 AM - Mike Glass: Yea today is bottle engraving lesson
Oct 3, 2015 6:46 AM - Mike Glass: Did you see my book cover I did?
Oct 3, 2015 6:46 AM - danzca6: That will be interesting to see how it deals with the curve
    Oct 3, 2015 6:46 AM - danzca6: No haven't seen that yet
    Oct 3, 2015 6:47 AM - Mike Glass: http://imgur.com/DlEjriq
Oct 3, 2015 6:50 AM - danzca6: Whoa... Very nice. That spine on the cover is a neat cut pattern.
    Oct 3, 2015 6:50 AM - danzca6: I hate auto correct on phones
Oct 3, 2015 6:51 AM - danzca6: Alright... What is the link to your printer again

Oct 3, 2015 6:53 AM - Mike Glass: didnt think it would work with that thick of wood but worked fine.
    Oct 3, 2015 6:53 AM - danzca6: How thick was it
Oct 3, 2015 6:55 AM - danzca6: Well soccer game is starting... Bbl
Oct 3, 2015 6:55 AM - danzca6: Looking forward to seeing your bottle
    Oct 3, 2015 6:57 AM - Mike Glass: 5mm
Oct 3, 2015 7:12 AM - Mattchu: that's what your laser cutter looks like, MG?
Oct 3, 2015 7:16 AM - Mike Glass: yea Matt
Oct 3, 2015 7:16 AM - Mike Glass: big ole coffin
Oct 3, 2015 7:17 AM - Mattchu: ...I want the next size up
    Oct 3, 2015 7:18 AM - Mike Glass: who doesnt..lol

    Oct 3, 2015 7:24 AM - Mattchu: stupid ebay
    Oct 3, 2015 7:25 AM - Mattchu: still, for 2500...
Oct 3, 2015 7:26 AM - Mike Glass: I havent seen any review on those ones
Oct 3, 2015 7:27 AM - Mattchu: it's a smaller bed on that last one, mike lol
Oct 3, 2015 7:27 AM - Mattchu: or did you mean on the red boxed 500x700 w/60W laser?
Oct 3, 2015 7:27 AM - Mike Glass: yea that one
Oct 3, 2015 7:28 AM - Mike Glass: or any of the cnc cheap co ones
    Oct 3, 2015 7:29 AM - Mattchu: just that 300x500 one?
Oct 3, 2015 7:30 AM - Mike Glass: yea I have not seen anything on those
Oct 3, 2015 7:34 AM - Mattchu: er I mean the one oyu have
Oct 3, 2015 7:34 AM - Mattchu: that other one...I wouldn't get it. it's the same as yours, just for 200 bucks more bigger laser, and sits on a cart (supposedly. I think it's the wrong picture).
Oct 3, 2015 7:36 AM - Mike Glass: which one?
    Oct 3, 2015 7:39 AM - Mattchu: the one I linked.
    Oct 3, 2015 7:39 AM - Mattchu: I was like "why's it so cheap..."
Oct 3, 2015 7:40 AM - Mike Glass: I thought you meant bigger bed.
Oct 3, 2015 7:40 AM - Mattchu: well, yes to both
    Oct 3, 2015 7:40 AM - Mattchu: lol, I apologize for miscommunication
Oct 3, 2015 7:41 AM - Mike Glass: that one you linked has the smaller bed thats why im confused.
Oct 3, 2015 7:47 AM - Mattchu: yes, but it looked the same as the others

    Oct 3, 2015 7:47 AM - Mattchu: I didn't see that at first :)
    Oct 3, 2015 8:00 AM - Mike Glass: I can put a 60w in the one I got also
    Oct 3, 2015 8:39 AM - Mike Kelly: Morning
Oct 3, 2015 8:40 AM - Mike Glass: Hey Mike
    Oct 3, 2015 8:42 AM - NFOsec: hello.
    Oct 3, 2015 8:42 AM - NFOsec: what's the discussion?
Oct 3, 2015 8:43 AM - Mike Glass: Just got back, had to shower, didnt do that yesterday..lol
    Oct 3, 2015 8:44 AM - NFOsec: TMI MG.... TMI. :)
Oct 3, 2015 8:44 AM - Mike Glass: Hey about to engrave a glass, what is circle pule
    Oct 3, 2015 8:44 AM - Mike Glass: pulse
Oct 3, 2015 8:46 AM - Mike Glass: haha, omg my heart just jumped out of my chest
    Oct 3, 2015 8:48 AM - NFOsec: what's that?
Oct 3, 2015 8:49 AM - Mike Glass: air pump hit the wall and was making a super loud noise.
    Oct 3, 2015 8:49 AM - NFOsec: ouch, that must've been a good rattle.
Oct 3, 2015 8:50 AM - Mike Glass: for some reason running the project the bottle does not rotate
Oct 3, 2015 8:50 AM - NFOsec: I actually put mine on top of that neophrene type exercise mat foam.
    Oct 3, 2015 8:50 AM - NFOsec: really helps.
Oct 3, 2015 8:50 AM - Mike Glass: oh I have a stack of those in the garage good thinking
Oct 3, 2015 8:50 AM - NFOsec: did you plug the cord in?
Oct 3, 2015 8:51 AM - Mike Glass: yea it spins with the test button
Oct 3, 2015 8:51 AM - Mike Glass: gave it the diameter of the bottle
    Oct 3, 2015 8:51 AM - donhuevo: howdy gents
Oct 3, 2015 8:51 AM - NFOsec: most of the noise from those (remember, I'm pretty much deaf) come from vibrations.
Oct 3, 2015 8:51 AM - NFOsec: you gave what the diameter?
Oct 3, 2015 8:51 AM - Mike Glass: the output box in rd
Oct 3, 2015 8:52 AM - Mike Glass: under enable rotate engrave
Oct 3, 2015 8:52 AM - NFOsec: so, I did a couple rulers. Did one in acrylic - nice. but the notches for measurements doesn't need to be as strong of power, they're cutting too deep into the wood IMHO.
    Oct 3, 2015 8:52 AM - NFOsec: oh.
Oct 3, 2015 8:52 AM - NFOsec: let me look.
Oct 3, 2015 8:53 AM - Mike Glass: oh let me see a pic of the acrylic one.
Oct 3, 2015 8:54 AM - NFOsec: let me do 2 pictures - give me a few minutes, trying to wrap up another job here on the Robo.
Oct 3, 2015 8:55 AM - Mike Glass: its just moving reallly really slow I think
Oct 3, 2015 8:56 AM - NFOsec: well you can prove that by putting a post it on it flat and see if it changes angles.
Oct 3, 2015 8:56 AM - NFOsec: sometimes visability of change isn't clear.
Oct 3, 2015 8:57 AM - Mike Glass: do you change the circle pulse at all?
    Oct 3, 2015 8:58 AM - Mike Glass: Axis Y precision=(3.1415926*1000*Work Piece diameter(mm))/Circle pulse
Oct 3, 2015 8:59 AM - NFOsec: I haven't. the pulse should be more than sufficient.
Oct 3, 2015 9:00 AM - NFOsec: it's referring to the number of times it pulses the laser per step
Oct 3, 2015 9:01 AM - Mike Glass: I though it sayd the y percision
    Oct 3, 2015 9:01 AM - Mike Glass: Circle pulse=Subdivision*Transmission ration
Oct 3, 2015 9:01 AM - NFOsec: well, if you pulsed 5000 times per step that would be more precision capice?
    Oct 3, 2015 9:01 AM - NFOsec: that's what I thought, but I'm not a rocket scientist, I'm just a Robo3D hobbiest. :)
Oct 3, 2015 9:05 AM - Mike Glass: yea just doesnt move
Oct 3, 2015 9:09 AM - Mike Glass: I can feel the stepper bumping but does not move.
Oct 3, 2015 9:11 AM - Mike Glass: maybe 10000 was the default, 1000 does nothing
Oct 3, 2015 9:14 AM - NFOsec: I don't recall using the enable rotary though, I need to check my settings again, I wish I saved a file/config for the last bottle I printed.
Oct 3, 2015 9:18 AM - Mike Glass: do you remeber what power settings and speed I should try?
    Oct 3, 2015 9:22 AM - jbigler1986: 200000mm/s
Oct 3, 2015 9:28 AM - NFOsec: it's in the sheets I gave you, but I would recommend higher speeds and lower power to start with because some say to use 80-100% power and 20-50 speed. I have cracked a-many with that.
Oct 3, 2015 9:30 AM - Mike Glass: I put the pulse to 10000 and it seems to be moving correctly
Oct 3, 2015 9:35 AM - Mike Glass: sheet shows speed 20 power of 10
Oct 3, 2015 9:36 AM - NFOsec: I think 10 is low, but 20 sounds kind of range. I believe I did 50/20 without breaching a pressured bottle. I need to look at my cheat sheet.
    Oct 3, 2015 9:36 AM - NFOsec: [IMG]
    Oct 3, 2015 9:37 AM - NFOsec: that was on cheap plexi-acrylic.
    Oct 3, 2015 9:38 AM - NFOsec: This was where I started. http://www.laserbits.com/lasersettings.html
Oct 3, 2015 9:39 AM - NFOsec: but I actually did my first test in half power because it seemed right. 100% can crack the glass.
Oct 3, 2015 9:39 AM - Mike Glass: looks good.
Oct 3, 2015 9:40 AM - Mike Glass: cant believe your robo prints thats so good
Oct 3, 2015 9:41 AM - NFOsec: yeah. it's all about using stock parts.
Oct 3, 2015 9:41 AM - NFOsec: got a rotor blade guard (snap on type) for the Phantom running on the platform now.
Oct 3, 2015 9:41 AM - NFOsec: need to do 2 in one color and 2 in another.
Oct 3, 2015 9:42 AM - Mike Glass: ok hitting go now.
Oct 3, 2015 9:42 AM - NFOsec: I wish I had a neon/glow in dark version of filament, but truth is, I could always spray/coat this with glow material.
Oct 3, 2015 9:42 AM - NFOsec: in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Glass.
Oct 3, 2015 9:42 AM - NFOsec: this an empty bottle?
Oct 3, 2015 9:43 AM - NFOsec: pressurized cheap champagne a friend gave you from a party you recently had where you had given the same bottle several months prior?
Oct 3, 2015 9:44 AM - Mike Glass: no its full
Oct 3, 2015 9:44 AM - Mike Glass: just kidding
    Oct 3, 2015 9:44 AM - NFOsec: Oh Lord.
    Oct 3, 2015 9:45 AM - NFOsec: what's it doing?
Oct 3, 2015 9:45 AM - Mike Glass: 50/20 seems to be a nice job, kinda a different sound engraving on glass
Oct 3, 2015 9:45 AM - NFOsec: can you pix the way you configured the rotary in the bed?
Oct 3, 2015 9:45 AM - NFOsec: yeah, glass is different as I hear.
Oct 3, 2015 9:46 AM - NFOsec: I picked up like 16 set plate of glass dinnerware (cups, bowls, saucers, serving plates, desert plates) for like $40, engraved custom, go for about $400.
Oct 3, 2015 9:46 AM - NFOsec: and would take approximately 3 hours.
Oct 3, 2015 9:47 AM - NFOsec: once in a long while the same set goes cheap, down to $20 (big lots or sometihng).
Oct 3, 2015 9:47 AM - NFOsec: so, using a .8 nozzle, what is ultimately your benefit?
    Oct 3, 2015 9:47 AM - Mike Glass: http://imgur.com/tW9bkgo
    Oct 3, 2015 9:48 AM - NFOsec: nice.
Oct 3, 2015 9:48 AM - Mike Glass: stronger parts, mostly I do it to make vases or bowls using spiral, but s3d I never got to work.
Oct 3, 2015 9:48 AM - NFOsec: btw, make sure you grease/oil up the rails well, especially the top one. when that gets sooted up it can get grainy.
Oct 3, 2015 9:49 AM - Mike Glass: what do you use oil or lithium grease?
Oct 3, 2015 9:49 AM - NFOsec: since it only uses a single stepper, I wanted to try using a lathe type approach for objects. they would be vised-centered and rotating based on the motor on one end.
Oct 3, 2015 9:50 AM - NFOsec: I used sewing machine oil or as one would think, 3-in-1.
Oct 3, 2015 9:50 AM - Mike Glass: ok thats what I have and use on the robo
Oct 3, 2015 9:51 AM - NFOsec: no, sorry, I meant I used that for the robo, for this one there is a tube you get.
Oct 3, 2015 9:51 AM - NFOsec: it looks like the same stuff I used on my CNC.
Oct 3, 2015 9:51 AM - Mike Glass: looks like its still squished, dammit, so need to up that 10000
Oct 3, 2015 9:51 AM - NFOsec: shit, what's it called. not lithium grease because I think that changes consistency in temperature changes.
Oct 3, 2015 9:52 AM - NFOsec: is it squished?
    Oct 3, 2015 9:52 AM - NFOsec: lets see...
    Oct 3, 2015 9:52 AM - Mike Glass: yea
Oct 3, 2015 9:52 AM - Mike Glass: just finished
Oct 3, 2015 9:52 AM - NFOsec: letting thje job finish I hope?
Oct 3, 2015 9:53 AM - Mike Glass: looks nice though
    Oct 3, 2015 9:54 AM - Mike Glass: http://i.imgur.com/DpisNsdl.jpg
Oct 3, 2015 9:54 AM - NFOsec: you see what I mean about the tape thing right?
Oct 3, 2015 9:55 AM - NFOsec: dead url so far.
Oct 3, 2015 9:56 AM - Mike Glass: try it now
Oct 3, 2015 9:56 AM - NFOsec: yeah, looks good.

    Oct 3, 2015 9:56 AM - NFOsec: remember, microshards.
Oct 3, 2015 9:57 AM - Mike Glass: i used a piece of tape on it
    Oct 3, 2015 9:59 AM - NFOsec: ok.
Oct 3, 2015 9:59 AM - Mike Glass: then scrub it in the sink right?
Oct 3, 2015 9:59 AM - NFOsec: you can of course see the potential money making in that.
Oct 3, 2015 9:59 AM - Mike Glass: gonna do the other side now.
Oct 3, 2015 9:59 AM - NFOsec: well "scrub" is a little overboard, but clean it out.
Oct 3, 2015 9:59 AM - Mike Glass: My wife loves it
    Oct 3, 2015 9:59 AM - NFOsec: rinse.
Oct 3, 2015 9:59 AM - NFOsec: that's cool. they make awesome gifts.
Oct 3, 2015 10:00 AM - NFOsec: removing the label and creating custom ones branded to your friends/family, etc.
Oct 3, 2015 10:00 AM - Mike Glass: so wonder what the key to get this to scale right.
Oct 3, 2015 10:00 AM - Mike Glass: 20000 looks good but not sure what the magic is?
Oct 3, 2015 10:00 AM - NFOsec: well, is your text horizontal in RDWorks or is it vertical;?
Oct 3, 2015 10:01 AM - NFOsec: text that is rotated by output can naturally be squished.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:02 AM - NFOsec: so you did 50 speed, 20 power with 20k pulse.
Oct 3, 2015 10:02 AM - Mike Glass: do I have the diameter messed up, it should be the measurement across the bottom right
Oct 3, 2015 10:02 AM - Mike Glass: yea it looks better then 10000
Oct 3, 2015 10:03 AM - NFOsec: Diameter precision as stated.
Oct 3, 2015 10:04 AM - NFOsec: yeah, diameter is across the bottom.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:04 AM - NFOsec: Radius *2
Oct 3, 2015 10:04 AM - NFOsec: some people mess up and use the circumference, probably because they spend their days holding on to theirs.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:04 AM - Mike Glass: yea its a 81mm
Oct 3, 2015 10:05 AM - Mike Glass: do a dry run and see what happens see if gets to the other side closer
Oct 3, 2015 10:08 AM - Mike Glass: I need to get a camera on this so I can monitor it and stream
Oct 3, 2015 10:08 AM - Mike Kelly: mg your ss's are backwards
Oct 3, 2015 10:09 AM - NFOsec: how much are you going to sell your mustang shine for?>
    Oct 3, 2015 10:09 AM - NFOsec: LOL
    Oct 3, 2015 10:09 AM - Mike Glass: ?
Oct 3, 2015 10:09 AM - NFOsec: the bottle, I saw "Mustang", you can fill it with "Mustasng Moon Shine"
Oct 3, 2015 10:10 AM - Mike Kelly: your ruler
Oct 3, 2015 10:10 AM - Mike Glass: oh hahaha
    Oct 3, 2015 10:10 AM - NFOsec: my ruler?
    Oct 3, 2015 10:11 AM - Mike Glass: your a ruler?
    Oct 3, 2015 10:11 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm a ruler
Oct 3, 2015 10:11 AM - NFOsec: you know those rubber stoppers they use for Olive Oils? you can grab those bottles and stopper sets pretty damn cheap -- easy enough to customize something on them (I mean $2 or less) and most are flat, so no rotary needed, the ones that are not, can be.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:12 AM - NFOsec: it's really an endless journey.
Oct 3, 2015 10:12 AM - NFOsec: so, you researched going to 60w?
Oct 3, 2015 10:12 AM - NFOsec: I don't know much about electronics to know what to do, but I suspect the switching power supply and perhaps the laser power box have to be replaced with the tube. Those are under $50.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:12 AM - NFOsec: I "heard" a rumor someone upgraded theirs to a 100w laser.
Oct 3, 2015 10:13 AM - NFOsec: but I can't find the info to sustantiate the claim just yet.
Oct 3, 2015 10:13 AM - NFOsec: so, you didn't answer my question about .8
Oct 3, 2015 10:14 AM - NFOsec: oh MK, the ruler didn't print very well with the S's.
Oct 3, 2015 10:14 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah upon closer inspection it looks more like 8's
Oct 3, 2015 10:15 AM - NFOsec: it was actually you seeing through the acrylic filament that was extruded to that area. <haha> so reflectively you can see the cut. from the top straight down you don't see that effect.
Oct 3, 2015 10:15 AM - Mike Glass: I did answer you on the .8
Oct 3, 2015 10:15 AM - NFOsec: I needed to really lay back on the power.
Oct 3, 2015 10:16 AM - Mike Glass: stronger parts and vase mode is what I use a .8 for
Oct 3, 2015 10:16 AM - NFOsec: oh, found it: " stronger parts, mostly I do it to make vases or bowls using spiral, but s3d I never got to work."
Oct 3, 2015 10:16 AM - NFOsec: why wouldn't you have been successful with .8 in s3D or was that just for spiral?
Oct 3, 2015 10:17 AM - Mike Glass: I also make metal rod wall shelving with it.
Oct 3, 2015 10:17 AM - NFOsec: so you use .8 and 1.6 for extrusion settings?
Oct 3, 2015 10:17 AM - Mike Glass: just spiral does not work in s3d
    Oct 3, 2015 10:17 AM - Mike Glass: .6
Oct 3, 2015 10:17 AM - NFOsec: I see. will have to look.
Oct 3, 2015 10:17 AM - Mike Glass: it shells out alot of plastic
Oct 3, 2015 10:18 AM - Mike Glass: lookup robo on steriods in the forums.
Oct 3, 2015 10:18 AM - NFOsec: so you're saying that I could theoretically buy the e3D nozzles and use them in the stock R1+++
Oct 3, 2015 10:18 AM - NFOsec: that makes sense. will look at that.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:18 AM - NFOsec: thanks.
Oct 3, 2015 10:18 AM - Mike Glass: looking alot better now
Oct 3, 2015 10:19 AM - NFOsec: with what settings?
    Oct 3, 2015 10:19 AM - NFOsec: 50/20, 40k?
    Oct 3, 2015 10:19 AM - Mike Glass: 20K
    Oct 3, 2015 10:19 AM - NFOsec: 20k good.
Oct 3, 2015 10:19 AM - Mike Glass: now does that work on all sizes, who knows..lol
Oct 3, 2015 10:19 AM - NFOsec: what did MK think of your ability to print a laser-engraved glass bottle with your Robo and a .8 hot end?
Oct 3, 2015 10:19 AM - Mike Glass: if you hit the preview its pretty dead on what you will see.
Oct 3, 2015 10:20 AM - Mike Kelly: what did i think what now
    Oct 3, 2015 10:20 AM - NFOsec: yeah.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:20 AM - NFOsec: MK: precisely.
Oct 3, 2015 10:20 AM - Mike Glass: DId you fire up that cnc MK.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:20 AM - NFOsec: I think he did.
Oct 3, 2015 10:20 AM - Mike Kelly: no i need some 4 conductor wiring
Oct 3, 2015 10:21 AM - NFOsec: or was that Bill's CNC dino fired up.
Oct 3, 2015 10:21 AM - NFOsec: man, I bet you're looking for drilling and milling time MK/.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:21 AM - Mike Kelly: yup
Oct 3, 2015 10:21 AM - Mike Glass: cant you use cat 6?
Oct 3, 2015 10:21 AM - NFOsec: MG: one of the favorite things I make using both CNC and laser is cribbage boards.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:21 AM - Mike Glass: ohhh
Oct 3, 2015 10:21 AM - Mike Kelly: i could i just don't feel comfortable using solid core
Oct 3, 2015 10:21 AM - NFOsec: I set up the drill patterns with the CNC.
Oct 3, 2015 10:22 AM - Mike Glass: just go buy a patch coard
Oct 3, 2015 10:22 AM - Mike Glass: or come over I have boxes of them..lol
    Oct 3, 2015 10:22 AM - Mike Kelly: haha
Oct 3, 2015 10:22 AM - NFOsec: route the boards if need be, but whgat you can put on them is cool.
Oct 3, 2015 10:22 AM - Mike Glass: I can send you some
Oct 3, 2015 10:22 AM - Mike Kelly: i should have some 4 conductor by the end of the day
Oct 3, 2015 10:22 AM - NFOsec: Pony Express delivery on its' way.
Oct 3, 2015 10:22 AM - Mike Kelly: watching football right now
Oct 3, 2015 10:23 AM - Mike Glass: I will hop in my shelby be there in 8 hours.
Oct 3, 2015 10:23 AM - Mike Glass: "dreaming of course"
Oct 3, 2015 10:24 AM - Mike Glass: is glass suppose to smoke?
Oct 3, 2015 10:27 AM - Mike Kelly: my coworker made it from Montana here in 8 hours in a truck, i think you could do better in a shelby
    Oct 3, 2015 10:29 AM - NFOsec: it will a little.
Oct 3, 2015 10:29 AM - NFOsec: you have to remember, glass, especially colored glass is based on specific impurities.
Oct 3, 2015 10:30 AM - NFOsec: plus oils or anythinge les on the surface, but it shouldn't really be smoking like wood. :)
Oct 3, 2015 10:30 AM - NFOsec: did you ever hook up the temp guage?
Oct 3, 2015 10:30 AM - Mike Glass: It showed up at work yesterday, I wasnt at work yesterday
Oct 3, 2015 10:31 AM - Mike Glass: well looks nice but still think its not stretched all the way.

Oct 3, 2015 10:31 AM - Mike Glass: if I measure it, its still 20mm less than project file.
Oct 3, 2015 10:33 AM - NFOsec: The part is doing pretty good, but at one point it dumped a bunch of PLA going across the bed -- found out there was a defect in the file. fixed it for the next print. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCFBI7yRGSBTmPf1agFXiCGg/live
    Oct 3, 2015 10:33 AM - Mike Glass: 10000 was 35mm, 20000 was 75mm, project is 100mm
Oct 3, 2015 10:33 AM - krouton3: thingiverse is getting hit hard by spambots >.>
    Oct 3, 2015 10:34 AM - NFOsec: yeah. I'm not really surprised.
Oct 3, 2015 10:34 AM - NFOsec: the whole captcha thing has to be revised.
Oct 3, 2015 10:35 AM - NFOsec: I don't know how many of you remember the early days of Juno when you had to verify / validate yourself with the recipient that used juno.com for email. If you didn't, they rejected your mail altogether.
Oct 3, 2015 10:36 AM - NFOsec: all they should do is configure digital certificates for authorization/authentication and prevent 99% of the spoofing crap going on.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:37 AM - krouton3: yea
Oct 3, 2015 10:37 AM - NFOsec: so, based on that, looks like if you use 27500 you'll reach your mark?
Oct 3, 2015 10:38 AM - NFOsec: I've been fortunate enough to take down a couple spambots and mass-mailing organizations in my time, but without a type of governed and accountability controls in place (without making the Internet and traffic being policed or run by the government) we'll never be able to effectively stop these things.
Oct 3, 2015 10:39 AM - NFOsec: wish the wind would die down here, itching to go out flying with the drone.
Oct 3, 2015 10:40 AM - Mike Glass: yea its windy as hell here, storm blew in at 3am, holy hell it was loud and lots of rain
    Oct 3, 2015 10:40 AM - Mike Glass: I think I found the answer
    Oct 3, 2015 10:40 AM - NFOsec: what's that MG?
Oct 3, 2015 10:42 AM - Mike Glass: if you go into preview it shows the size, the second number changes when you change the pulse setting. so 21500 is the correct size for this one.
Oct 3, 2015 10:42 AM - NFOsec: let me look at that once. 1 sec.
Oct 3, 2015 10:45 AM - NFOsec: are you saying that in your preview, your output was crunched as well until you had the right number?
Oct 3, 2015 10:45 AM - NFOsec: I really never focused on using that, but certainly a good tool given the benefit.
Oct 3, 2015 10:46 AM - Mike Glass: yep, good to know
    Oct 3, 2015 10:46 AM - NFOsec: no doubt.
Oct 3, 2015 10:46 AM - NFOsec: so the pulse was actually tied to the steps.
Oct 3, 2015 10:47 AM - NFOsec: did you have your work rotated to the work piece or was it straight?
Oct 3, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Glass: looks like aslo if you check the enable feeding and set your distance in there it changes it as well, if you leave the pulse at default of 1000.
Oct 3, 2015 10:48 AM - NFOsec: btw, darker colored glass is a different story when using clear.
Oct 3, 2015 10:48 AM - NFOsec: so enable feeding would be a self-"auto" type feeed.
Oct 3, 2015 10:49 AM - NFOsec: ok. strange enough, never used those, but will do.
Oct 3, 2015 10:49 AM - NFOsec: I have some mini-milk bottles and spice things I bought to engrave, might test one out now.
Oct 3, 2015 10:49 AM - Mike Glass: let me save and see if it actually turns its though.
Oct 3, 2015 10:51 AM - Mike Glass: enable feeding does not work
    Oct 3, 2015 10:52 AM - NFOsec: ok.
Oct 3, 2015 10:53 AM - NFOsec: the ones I have are curved in a way where it's challenging to get a clean spin, which is why it's better to use non-tappered items.
Oct 3, 2015 10:54 AM - Mike Glass: I see some of them use like a lathe spindle type.
    Oct 3, 2015 10:54 AM - NFOsec: yeah. i like that.
Oct 3, 2015 10:55 AM - Mike Glass: those look a little more expensive then these ones we have.
Oct 3, 2015 11:01 AM - NFOsec: theoretically, if you have some type of a cone-clamp system where you vise an object centered like a lathe, and a stepper turning the one end, can't be that hard.
Oct 3, 2015 11:01 AM - NFOsec: some may if they have fancy mill work.
    Oct 3, 2015 11:03 AM - NFOsec:
Oct 3, 2015 11:03 AM - NFOsec: deep cutting once the video stops moving around.
    Oct 3, 2015 11:03 AM - NFOsec: this is what I meant.
    Oct 3, 2015 11:03 AM - NFOsec:
Oct 3, 2015 11:04 AM - Mike Glass: I was just goint to ask about plexi cylinders
    Oct 3, 2015 11:04 AM - NFOsec: that's what I want.
Oct 3, 2015 11:05 AM - Mike Glass: whats that?
Oct 3, 2015 11:05 AM - Mike Glass: oh second video
Oct 3, 2015 11:05 AM - NFOsec: the last video, it's the lathe type one.
    Oct 3, 2015 11:05 AM - NFOsec: yeah.
Oct 3, 2015 11:05 AM - Mike Glass: yea saw that one this morning
    Oct 3, 2015 11:06 AM - Mike Glass: not sure I would use that for a glass..lol
Oct 3, 2015 11:06 AM - NFOsec: the idea of using an inner grip, boot grip, etc.
Oct 3, 2015 11:06 AM - NFOsec: oh, they have rubberized boots on the grip ones, this guy is just an idiot like the rest of them.
Oct 3, 2015 11:07 AM - Mike Glass: lol ok
Oct 3, 2015 11:07 AM - NFOsec: as you can see, they leave the doors open, wires exposed, no glasses, etc.
Oct 3, 2015 11:07 AM - Mike Glass: metal on glass thats dumb
Oct 3, 2015 11:08 AM - NFOsec: I think only one rod is geared, the center right?
Oct 3, 2015 11:08 AM - NFOsec: yeah, no kidding.
Oct 3, 2015 11:08 AM - NFOsec: so is convincing someone that a chinese laser is a good buy on a 3D Printing Shoutbox forum.
Oct 3, 2015 11:08 AM - Mike Glass: lol, its all your fault
Oct 3, 2015 11:08 AM - NFOsec: but, I think you were always geared to do it. I probably pushed you over the edge because you thought if this idiot can do it, maybe I can too. :)
Oct 3, 2015 11:09 AM - NFOsec: but no regrets (yet) right? :)
Oct 3, 2015 11:09 AM - Mike Glass: hell no,
Oct 3, 2015 11:10 AM - Mike Glass: man their nozzle seem so close and mine is just under an inch away.
Oct 3, 2015 11:10 AM - Mike Glass: must be the optics difference
Oct 3, 2015 11:11 AM - Mike Glass: ok gotta find a dragon to do now
Oct 3, 2015 11:12 AM - NFOsec: focus and optics.
    Oct 3, 2015 11:12 AM - NFOsec: that's cool.
Oct 3, 2015 11:13 AM - NFOsec: images.google.com, plenty of drags and dragons.
Oct 3, 2015 11:13 AM - NFOsec: or, wait until Don arrives.
Oct 3, 2015 11:13 AM - Mike Glass: yep[ thats where I go
Oct 3, 2015 11:14 AM - NFOsec: looks to be roughly $250-350 for one. found this on ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Irregular-i...rotary-tool-/320675652929?hash=item4aa9c22541
Oct 3, 2015 11:15 AM - NFOsec: scratch that, that was probably the cheapest "lathe" type, most of the others were 5-800
    Oct 3, 2015 11:16 AM - Mike Glass: its a Irregular item..lol
Oct 3, 2015 11:16 AM - NFOsec: because it's sold separately? If it wasn't a straight edged or something hell with that.
Oct 3, 2015 11:17 AM - NFOsec: your thoughts on the best way to secure this vase? https://encrypted-tbn1.gstatic.com/...UM42-AlZb5t9YU8vvxTOxijSkQ_vZY-olsbx_rHuvWFHA
Oct 3, 2015 11:17 AM - NFOsec: might need some thick foam tape or some type of rubber o-rings
    Oct 3, 2015 11:18 AM - NFOsec: various sizes/thicknesses might help.
Oct 3, 2015 11:19 AM - Mike Glass: rubber or foam wheels from an rc?
Oct 3, 2015 11:19 AM - Mike Glass: or foam tape
Oct 3, 2015 11:20 AM - Mike Glass: print something out of nijaflex
Oct 3, 2015 11:24 AM - NFOsec: yeah. that might work, I have the semi-flex ninjaflex filament. will have to figure out dimensions and create slap plates for the ends (like little end caps to the bottoms of metal chairs but have a disk under it.
Oct 3, 2015 11:25 AM - NFOsec: did you answer me about the orientation of your art work? Was it in preview the same orientation as it appeared if you were looking at the object orientation on the laser bed?
    Oct 3, 2015 11:25 AM - PeterkSharma: morning
Oct 3, 2015 11:26 AM - PeterkSharma: Anyone know anything about CLIP style printers?
    Oct 3, 2015 11:26 AM - NFOsec: I think when I did mine, I was flipped.
Oct 3, 2015 11:26 AM - Mike Glass: yep printed out just like in the software.
Oct 3, 2015 11:27 AM - Mike Glass: you have to adjust your red box on the piece, mine is on the left side.
Oct 3, 2015 11:30 AM - NFOsec: so it was standing like T or was it |-- in the software. I am thinking |---
Oct 3, 2015 11:30 AM - NFOsec: Peter - what is there to know..
Oct 3, 2015 11:30 AM - NFOsec: layer by layer, step by step. :)
Oct 3, 2015 11:31 AM - PeterkSharma: I'm looking for a build schematic or something
Oct 3, 2015 11:31 AM - NFOsec: Similar to Laser Sintering, it's definitely a clean machine.
Oct 3, 2015 11:31 AM - PeterkSharma: and to know if there is any software available for that style printer
Oct 3, 2015 11:32 AM - PeterkSharma: yeah its just a form of an SLA printer. how is the build differ from the traidtional DLP SLA style
Oct 3, 2015 11:33 AM - NFOsec: any resin-based build would suffice, but I think the creators carbon3d.com might have more specifics on the comparisons.
Oct 3, 2015 11:36 AM - PeterkSharma: well im interested because its about 100x faster
Oct 3, 2015 11:36 AM - NFOsec: Sure it is, but it's going to be significantly pricier too. Entry level SLAs vary, but I really don't see anything special other than software being the most proprietary thing to the CLIP vs. SLA approach.
    Oct 3, 2015 11:36 AM - NFOsec: but that's just me.
    Oct 3, 2015 11:42 AM - jbigler1986: Just buy every kind
Oct 3, 2015 11:53 AM - Mike Kelly: whoa jb's boilermakers are within 3 on number 2 mich st
Oct 3, 2015 11:55 AM - Mike Kelly: just got the wiring i need, also the 1/8" bit for the 1/4" shank

Oct 3, 2015 11:56 AM - NFOsec: very exciting MK.
Oct 3, 2015 11:58 AM - NFOsec: well, off to do a brief maiden voyage with the 4k video back in a few.
Oct 3, 2015 12:01 PM - Mike Glass: ok good luck
Oct 3, 2015 12:03 PM - Mike Kelly: and they can't do it, mich st survives
    Oct 3, 2015 12:07 PM - Mike Kelly: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/skarp/the-skarp-laser-razor-21st-century-shaving this is interesting
    Oct 3, 2015 12:09 PM - Mike Kelly: not worth 190 i don't think

    Oct 3, 2015 12:20 PM - NFOsec: Well, THAT should be somebody's 1.0 or 3.0.
Oct 3, 2015 12:20 PM - NFOsec: depending on what state you're in.
Oct 3, 2015 12:22 PM - NFOsec: Maiden voyage was good, went up to the son's bedroom window, landed with auto-homing, but forgot to engage video, but was cool. wife enjoyed watching it as well.
Oct 3, 2015 12:22 PM - NFOsec: the rotor guards I grabbed on thingiverse are flwed in design, peices were individually parted but not meshed together.
Oct 3, 2015 12:22 PM - NFOsec: will have to melt those into one part with NetFabb
Oct 3, 2015 12:24 PM - Mike Kelly: that's why i have a hard time trusting thingiverse models
Oct 3, 2015 12:27 PM - NFOsec: yeah, I kind of agree there. It was a simplistic enough design I could have done it myself.
    Oct 3, 2015 12:30 PM - WheresWaldo: Afternoon everyone.
    Oct 3, 2015 12:33 PM - NFOsec: hello WW.
    Oct 3, 2015 12:34 PM - WheresWaldo: What's up NFO?
Oct 3, 2015 12:36 PM - Mike Glass: hey nfo what was the settings for the ruler?

Oct 3, 2015 12:41 PM - Mike Kelly: have good ventilation
Oct 3, 2015 12:41 PM - Mike Glass: have a 6" vent to the outside
Oct 3, 2015 12:42 PM - Mike Glass: its polycarbonates you dont want to cut, acrylic is way safer.
    Oct 3, 2015 12:42 PM - Mike Kelly: ah
Oct 3, 2015 12:43 PM - Mike Glass: lexan will kill you
Oct 3, 2015 12:43 PM - Mike Glass: err lexan poly
    Oct 3, 2015 12:44 PM - Mike Glass: not lexan..pvc or pleather
Oct 3, 2015 12:44 PM - Mike Glass: something about chlorine gas isnt good for you or something
Oct 3, 2015 12:47 PM - Mike Kelly: who knew?
Oct 3, 2015 12:49 PM - Mike Glass: lexan also absorbs infrared so its not a good cutting material along with the pc it contains.
Oct 3, 2015 12:50 PM - Mike Glass: I need to get some cermark so I can engrave ink into metals.
Oct 3, 2015 12:50 PM - Mike Glass: Did you see my book cover I did MK?

Oct 3, 2015 4:19 PM - jbigler1986: who knows. but she was going to be in "recovery" today
    Oct 3, 2015 4:19 PM - jbigler1986: can't wait to go to court

Oct 3, 2015 4:20 PM - jbigler1986: on a happier note. about to do a dual test print
Oct 3, 2015 4:21 PM - PeterkSharma: hey MK, is there any software for CLIP style printing?
Oct 3, 2015 4:22 PM - Mike Kelly: clip is a hardware thing
Oct 3, 2015 4:22 PM - Mike Kelly: has to do with an oxygen permeable membrane
Oct 3, 2015 4:22 PM - Mike Kelly: good to hear jb, good luck
Oct 3, 2015 4:23 PM - jbigler1986: fucking Purdue had a chance to beat Michigan State

Oct 3, 2015 4:24 PM - Mike Kelly: read their patent
    Oct 3, 2015 4:24 PM - PeterkSharma: lol
Oct 3, 2015 4:25 PM - jbigler1986: had to disable retracting on a bearing pin. was pushing out to much filament after the retract making the pin fail
Oct 3, 2015 4:25 PM - Mike Kelly: right JB? and indiana had a chance on OSU and screwed up
    Oct 3, 2015 4:25 PM - jbigler1986: i didn't see that
Oct 3, 2015 4:25 PM - Mike Kelly: just finished
    Oct 3, 2015 4:26 PM - jbigler1986: bastards
Oct 3, 2015 4:26 PM - jbigler1986: Purdue played horrible in the first half. If they played like they did in the 2nd they could have beaten MSU easily
Oct 3, 2015 4:27 PM - jbigler1986: should i slow down retraction speed or distance so after the retract it doesn't push out excess filament?
Oct 3, 2015 4:28 PM - Mike Kelly: hmm it shouldn't be over extruding
Oct 3, 2015 4:28 PM - Mike Kelly: unless it's skipping steps on the retract
    Oct 3, 2015 4:29 PM - jbigler1986: possible. I will slow down the retract
Oct 3, 2015 4:30 PM - Mike Kelly: kst is up on ok st

    Oct 3, 2015 5:46 PM - jbigler1986: such a tedious project. great vid though
Oct 3, 2015 5:46 PM - Mike Kelly: absolutely do not have the patience for that
    Oct 3, 2015 5:48 PM - jbigler1986: me either
Oct 3, 2015 5:54 PM - Mike Glass: somebody with too much money and time obviously..lol
Oct 3, 2015 5:55 PM - Mike Glass: ok my robo is screaming at me, havent been paying attention to it. neet to print a big ol pumkin.
Oct 3, 2015 5:56 PM - Mike Kelly: lol it is that month
Oct 3, 2015 6:00 PM - Mike Glass: guess its time for the .8 nozzle
Oct 3, 2015 6:03 PM - Mike Glass: Hey mike I did use .5 layer height with .4 nozzle, tricking it that it was a .6 nozzle, worked perfect.
Oct 3, 2015 6:04 PM - Mike Glass: looks like that IPA paddle was laser cut?
    Oct 3, 2015 6:04 PM - Mike Kelly: width?
    Oct 3, 2015 6:04 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i think so
Oct 3, 2015 6:04 PM - Mike Kelly: wanna make me a stir paddle?
Oct 3, 2015 6:04 PM - Mike Kelly: .5 layer height is insane
Oct 3, 2015 6:05 PM - Mike Glass: yea made a nice hanging lamp
    Oct 3, 2015 6:05 PM - Mike Kelly: neat
Oct 3, 2015 6:05 PM - Mike Glass: dual color even
Oct 3, 2015 6:05 PM - Mike Glass: what wood does a paddle use?
    Oct 3, 2015 6:06 PM - Mike Kelly: that's a good question
    Oct 3, 2015 6:07 PM - daniel871: Oak?
Oct 3, 2015 6:07 PM - Mike Glass: RUBBER TREE WOOD, walnut, maple, ash, elm, oak (white oak is preferred because it is not so porous), and even hickory and pecan wood.
Oct 3, 2015 6:08 PM - Mike Glass: the one in the picture kinda looks like maple
    Oct 3, 2015 6:09 PM - Mike Kelly: that's what i was gonna guess
Oct 3, 2015 6:09 PM - Mike Glass: how big are they?
    Oct 3, 2015 6:09 PM - Mike Kelly: 2ft would be a good length
Oct 3, 2015 6:10 PM - Mike Kelly: wow notre dame is falling apart
    Oct 3, 2015 6:13 PM - jbigler1986: I hope they lose. I hate them
    Oct 3, 2015 6:13 PM - Mike Kelly: i don't know what i was thinking picking them,
    Oct 3, 2015 6:16 PM - jbigler1986: Must have been drunk
Oct 3, 2015 6:16 PM - daniel871: I'm cracking up over UGA getting curbstomped by Alabama. Don't really care about football but the fans at work are insufferable.
Oct 3, 2015 6:18 PM - daniel871: Also LOL at the CES Robbie parts deadline moving up to Nov 1st.
Oct 3, 2015 6:18 PM - Mike Glass: well my laser is not quite that big Mike..lol
Oct 3, 2015 6:19 PM - Mike Glass: although could do a puzzle type connector
    Oct 3, 2015 6:21 PM - daniel871: Ok. Printing question.
    Oct 3, 2015 6:21 PM - jbigler1986: Wtf. I changed it to - and its the same
    Oct 3, 2015 6:22 PM - jbigler1986: hahahahahaha
Oct 3, 2015 6:22 PM - daniel871: Since my heated bed is dead, would lower cooling fan speeds be better for PLA or higher fan speeds, to reduce warping.
    Oct 3, 2015 6:22 PM - jbigler1986: it was commented out
    Oct 3, 2015 6:22 PM - jbigler1986: higher
    Oct 3, 2015 6:23 PM - jbigler1986: pla you want more cooling
Oct 3, 2015 6:24 PM - Mike Glass: damn been soaking this nozzle for over a month and still xt plugged up in it
Oct 3, 2015 6:24 PM - daniel871: The PEI held on to the part I printed last night, but the corners were curling up like ABS.
    Oct 3, 2015 6:24 PM - daniel871: Yeah I ended up changing the nozzle I sent XT thru. It's a nozzle killer.
    Oct 3, 2015 6:29 PM - daniel871: I like this hatchbox lemon yellow color.
    Oct 3, 2015 6:31 PM - jbigler1986: MG link 5 is pretty good quality
Oct 3, 2015 6:33 PM - Mike Glass: thats the one im on
Oct 3, 2015 6:55 PM - Mike Glass: so im printing with .8 nozzle using it as a .9nozzle, its spitting some platic.
    Oct 3, 2015 6:56 PM - Mike Kelly: heh
Oct 3, 2015 6:56 PM - Mike Kelly: wow florida is going to upset ole miss
    Oct 3, 2015 6:56 PM - Mike Kelly: that's hilarious
Oct 3, 2015 6:59 PM - jbigler1986: i need to get new springs for extruder 0. it's screwing up the retraction. have different ones on the 2nd extruder and it's perfect. ace trip tomorrow
Oct 3, 2015 7:00 PM - jbigler1986: how can i prime nozzle 2 before it prints? nozzle 1 is good because it prints the skirt
    Oct 3, 2015 7:00 PM - Mike Kelly: ah
    Oct 3, 2015 7:00 PM - Mike Kelly: hmm
Oct 3, 2015 7:00 PM - Mike Kelly: wipe and prime tower
    Oct 3, 2015 7:01 PM - jbigler1986: will try that
    Oct 3, 2015 7:02 PM - jbigler1986: where is that setting
    Oct 3, 2015 7:03 PM - jbigler1986: found it
Oct 3, 2015 7:10 PM - Mike Kelly: you could also prime before the start of the print then retract
Oct 3, 2015 7:13 PM - Mike Kelly: but that's probably not quite what you mean
    Oct 3, 2015 7:14 PM - jbigler1986: Prime tower should do it
Oct 3, 2015 7:14 PM - Mike Kelly: man my mk r1 sucks at multiple part prints
    Oct 3, 2015 7:16 PM - jbigler1986: Stringy?
Oct 3, 2015 7:21 PM - Mike Kelly: nope they just keep popping off
Oct 3, 2015 7:21 PM - Mike Kelly: guess i'm just gonna have to print these cable chains on the rep2
Oct 3, 2015 7:23 PM - Mike Glass: do it on the R1
Oct 3, 2015 7:24 PM - Mike Kelly: i noticed my ir sensor mount was loose, probably need to readjust my z offset
Oct 3, 2015 7:25 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i think i'll just print them in cinnamon red and not use abs
Oct 3, 2015 7:28 PM - Mike Glass: that will be purdy
    Oct 3, 2015 8:03 PM - jbigler1986: Y is off a tiny bit
    Oct 3, 2015 8:06 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
    Oct 3, 2015 8:08 PM - Mike Glass: retraction?
Oct 3, 2015 8:09 PM - jbigler1986: yeah the orange retraction is a mess right now. gotta get new springs for the idler tomorrow
Oct 3, 2015 8:11 PM - jbigler1986: the orange on the base is just ooze. i just didn't move it before i took the pic
    Oct 3, 2015 8:14 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Oct 3, 2015 8:20 PM - Mike Kelly: whats your retract settings
    Oct 3, 2015 8:27 PM - jbigler1986: 4mm at 40mm/s I believe
Oct 3, 2015 8:28 PM - jbigler1986: The blue isn't bad. Orange will be better tomorrow
    Oct 3, 2015 8:43 PM - NFOsec: yo.

Oct 3, 2015 at 9:19 PM - Mike Glass: oh and a honeycomb table also around $60
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:20 PM - Mike Glass: that was well worth it

Oct 3, 2015 at 9:21 PM - Mattchu: I'll talk to the parents about using their garage...I'll tell them it'll mean I'm over more often
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:22 PM - Mike Glass: just remember it has to be in a heated area if you live in a cold climate
    Oct 3, 2015 at 9:23 PM - Mattchu: really?
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:23 PM - Mattchu: hmmmm...well, how cold are we talking?
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:23 PM - Mike Glass: well at least not freezing
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:23 PM - Mattchu: like, we're in San Diego
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:23 PM - Mattchu: we joke about snow being a lie propogated by the east coasters.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:23 PM - Mike Glass: water and glass dont mix
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:23 PM - Mike Glass: when it freezes
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:23 PM - Mattchu: got ya
    Oct 3, 2015 at 9:24 PM - Mattchu: the CO2 freezing
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:24 PM - Mattchu: from water moisture?
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:24 PM - Mike Glass: not the water breaking the laser when it freezes.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:24 PM - Mike Glass: its water cooled
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:25 PM - Mattchu: ooooh got ya
    Oct 3, 2015 at 9:25 PM - Mattchu: yeah that'd suck.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:25 PM - Mike Glass: not sure if you could use glycol in them or not
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:25 PM - Mike Glass: My office now smells like a fire place..lol
    Oct 3, 2015 at 9:26 PM - Mattchu: lmao
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:26 PM - Mike Glass: think its just from the wood piece that are in here that I cut though
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:26 PM - Mattchu: start cutting some oak then!
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:26 PM - Mattchu: stank that place up pretty!
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:28 PM - Mike Glass: im doing one these in cardboard now, then plastic. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:758447
    Oct 3, 2015 at 9:33 PM - Mattchu: oooooh
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:34 PM - Mike Glass: been doing wine bottles all day.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:43 PM - nonmindo: evening errbody
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:43 PM - nonmindo: Has anyone in here ever used "
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:44 PM - nonmindo: "Ohfila" brand filament?
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:47 PM - Mike Glass: [IMG]
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:47 PM - NFOsec: Pretty nice job there.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:47 PM - Mike Glass: Never heard anybody using it here
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:47 PM - nonmindo: ohh nice
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:47 PM - nonmindo: ok thanks
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:48 PM - Mike Glass: thats with the .8 nozzle
    Oct 3, 2015 at 9:48 PM - NFOsec: gotcha.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:48 PM - Mike Glass: hey got settings for the ruler
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:48 PM - nonmindo: also, is there a trick to printing translucent PLA? I got some Shaxon Fluorescent Green and it's translucent and seems to get chewed up in the hobbed bolt, or clog the hot end (have had 3 clogs)
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:48 PM - NFOsec: so, with the stock R1++, where would you recommend I buy hotends for?
    Oct 3, 2015 at 9:49 PM - NFOsec: cool.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:49 PM - Mike Glass: no asking you for settings..lol
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:49 PM - NFOsec: what you and I should do is swap a few of those so I can build up and clean up that list.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:49 PM - NFOsec: well, I think you got the concepts down now.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:49 PM - NFOsec: which I never had a doubt you would fast.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:49 PM - NFOsec: mind if I ask what you ended up with?
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:50 PM - Mike Glass: just buy e3d nozzles
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:50 PM - NFOsec: you using the 123D tool for the skull?
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:50 PM - NFOsec: they will work with what I have then.
    Oct 3, 2015 at 9:50 PM - NFOsec: e3D it is. ok.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:50 PM - Mike Glass: I got mine from printed solid
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:51 PM - nonmindo: filastruder has a better price, I was just looking up new hotends and such
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:51 PM - nonmindo: because of this new clogging crap
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:51 PM - nonmindo: I'm going to go with the e3dv6 hotend with a .25 hardened steel nozzle
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:52 PM - Mike Glass: NFO what I ended up with for what?
    Oct 3, 2015 at 9:52 PM - NFOsec: ruler settings for speed/power.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:52 PM - Mike Glass: I havent done any acrylic yet, thats why I was asking what you used..lol
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:52 PM - NFOsec: that fatass PS doesn't have anything in stock. :(
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:53 PM - NFOsec: stainless worth anything? I known the hardened steel has benefits.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:53 PM - Mike Glass: other than the outragous price for stainless its fine
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:55 PM - nonmindo: I would get the hardened, then can print CF without worrying about it messing up the nozzle, also the stainless one you have to print slower, im sure its the same for hardened tho
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:56 PM - Mike Glass: you have to print slower with stainless nozzle?
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:57 PM - NFOsec: figured that to be true MG because stainless wouldn't retain heat as well.
Oct 3, 2015 at 9:57 PM - nonmindo: yea thats what i had read somewhere, let me see if i can find the article
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:00 PM - nonmindo: I cant find it now :(
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:01 PM - nonmindo: I did find a article that talks about E3D's hardened steel ones, they apparently coat them with something to make them more heat conductive
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:01 PM - Mike Glass: so 100 speed 16 sound right for 1/16 acrylic
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:02 PM - Mike Glass: 100 power that is
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:02 PM - nonmindo: there's also this nozzle which is in development that is going to use a jewel core??
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:02 PM - nonmindo: http://www.dura-gem.com/about
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:02 PM - nonmindo: "Dura-Gem designed and built a JEWELED 3-DIMENSIONAL PRINTING NOZZLE to eliminate the wear, while still maintaining the size and thermal performance. The jewel being used is among the hardest materials known to man, and is much harder than any material currently being extruded by a 3D-printer. This allows the nozzle to resist both common types of wear, which means that the nozzle will last the life of your 3D printer."
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:06 PM - NFOsec: 100 power 16 speed?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:06 PM - NFOsec: 1/16 acrylic, that might be excessive.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:07 PM - Mike Glass: just reading the site on laser bits
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:07 PM - nonmindo: https://www.reddit.com/r/Reprap/comments/2ypks8/e3d_stainless_steel_nozzle_questions/
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:08 PM - NFOsec: I'd say you might be able to pull it more with 60 power 100% through and maybe 15, but like I said, it "sounds" excessive, but you'll know quickly if it is.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:08 PM - NFOsec: over-lasering acrylic can smoke the edges.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:08 PM - Mike Glass: what did you use.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:08 PM - nonmindo: the guys from e3d made the stainless nozzle for a specific person's project and decided to sell them, then the exotic abrasive filaments came out and those makers started pointing people to ss heads, e3d actually doesnt recommend, its in the reddit
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:08 PM - NFOsec: look at the spreadsheet I had given you, it should have a tab for including acrylic and the 50w variation.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:09 PM - NFOsec: I actually used 80 at 10 speed, but if you had 50% laser-through vs. 100% laser-through there was a slight difference in the output as far as edges (very subtle but different).
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:10 PM - NFOsec: idea with acrylc is to have enough power to go through the full thickness and have it slow enough so that it will melt up the ends clean. too fast or too slow create smoke/char situations.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:11 PM - NFOsec: netfabb really did a great job of welding the poorly designed phantom 3 pro rotor guard.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:11 PM - Mike Glass: did you use 1/16
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:11 PM - NFOsec: part is printing up very clean now.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:11 PM - NFOsec: I used 1/8 or 1/4th most of the time bud.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:11 PM - NFOsec: I have 1/16th, can run a quick test if you want.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:12 PM - NFOsec: are you talking about the conixie stuff?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:12 PM - Mike Glass: no for the ruler
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:13 PM - NFOsec: so, e3d is an internationally based company UK?

Oct 3, 2015 at 10:14 PM - nonmindo: It seems so
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:14 PM - NFOsec: sucks.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:14 PM - nonmindo: I plan on buying my e3d stuff from filastruder, they are about $10-$15 cheaper than anywhere else
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:15 PM - NFOsec: mmm.. matterhackers sells them as well.
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:15 PM - NFOsec: filastruder?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:16 PM - nonmindo: yea they are a company that sells the filament recycler, they also sell hotends
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:16 PM - nonmindo: and they are an authorized reseller of e3d so you know its authentic
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:16 PM - nonmindo: http://www.filastruder.com/
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:16 PM - nonmindo: they also sell the hardened steel hot end by E3d
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:17 PM - nonmindo: I was going to get a chimera or cyclops but decided against it for now.....
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:18 PM - nonmindo: MG have you upgraded to a e3d?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:19 PM - Mike Glass: I havent but have one for my new carriage, just need to finish my extruder
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:19 PM - Mike Glass: for bowden
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:20 PM - nonmindo: Do you know, is it essential to drill out the carriage and also wire direct to RAMPS? I'm trying to avoid tearing the printer apart till i have all the upgrades, but also want to install the v6 asap
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:20 PM - Mike Glass: I built my own carriage
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:20 PM - NFOsec: thanks for the info.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:20 PM - Mike Glass: with a quick release of dons design
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:21 PM - NFOsec: I just completed the order for a fun pack of nozzles and a set of 3 hardened.
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:21 PM - nonmindo: lol
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:21 PM - nonmindo: damn tho thats a lot of money for nozzels lol
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:21 PM - nonmindo: your order was prolly around $100
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:21 PM - NFOsec: MG, used 1/8" for the ruler I did.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:21 PM - Mike Glass: so 1/16 im just going to cut at 80power and 15 speed, what did you do for engrave?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:22 PM - NFOsec: with shipping and all.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:22 PM - NFOsec: oh, let me pull up that. I actually had mine too high before, so do the same as your photos 500 but power lower like 20, I know 30+ was really bad.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:22 PM - nonmindo: damn thats a lot to spend on nozzles.....but im also lazy and dont want to be changing my nozzles
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:22 PM - NFOsec: 20 was just about right.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:23 PM - NFOsec: well, spares and options are always beneficial.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:23 PM - nonmindo: true, true
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:23 PM - NFOsec: the Robo is my cheapest "toy".
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:24 PM - Mike Glass: this is 2.35mm plexi
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:24 PM - nonmindo: I'm going to get the .25 hardened nozzle and keep the brass .4 as my backup
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:24 PM - NFOsec: I really hate buying non-essentials, but if this nozzle wears, you're screwed.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:24 PM - nonmindo: or maybe ill get the .4 hardened... i dunno... i dont really wanna lower my speed by too much
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:24 PM - Mike Glass: err 2.5mm
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:25 PM - NFOsec: that's pretty close to 3/32 eh?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:26 PM - NFOsec: you'll have a whipping stick since it won't be too rigid, but 80% has got to be MORE than enoug hpower. I'd go with 10, but 15 speed should work.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:26 PM - NFOsec: what I do sometimes is open and use tape to attempt to lift the part without moving anything, if it "sticks", I sometimes just run the cut part routine.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:26 PM - Mike Glass: this is just to cut the sheet in half
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:26 PM - NFOsec: for a "2nd pass".
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:26 PM - NFOsec: oh, yeah, then crank it out baby.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:26 PM - NFOsec: LOL. I got to do that too.
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:27 PM - NFOsec: funny.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:27 PM - Mike Glass: should I put tape on it?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:27 PM - nonmindo: put a bird on it
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:27 PM - nonmindo: (sorry i had to)
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:28 PM - Mike Glass: do you cover the whole ruler with tape when you did them?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:28 PM - NFOsec: actually, I had the bottom masked.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:28 PM - NFOsec: since it was clear plexi.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:29 PM - NFOsec: on one, I just used 2" tape and went the length for the ruler.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:29 PM - NFOsec: the cobra one.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:29 PM - NFOsec: for some reason they always recommend clear having a darker bottom or mask and enverthing else without.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:30 PM - Mike Glass: so nothing on the top for engraving?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:32 PM - NFOsec: I did do one with and one without. easier to clean without with plexi.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:33 PM - Mike Glass: that was perfect cut at 15
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:34 PM - Mike Glass: man hope this is cat
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:34 PM - Mike Glass: cast
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:35 PM - NFOsec: yeah, don't go over 15.
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:35 PM - NFOsec: why?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:36 PM - Mike Glass: so it dont kill me..lol
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:36 PM - NFOsec: well, not a lot of plexi/acrylics are "bad" from a laser perspective, but yeah.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:36 PM - Mike Glass: little jagged on the bottom 12 should take care of that
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:36 PM - NFOsec: stuff stinks anyway.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:37 PM - NFOsec: you should see the laserable sheets I have, they stink like hell but they sure work good.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:37 PM - NFOsec: if you searched on ebay for "laserable" you'll get some specifics.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:38 PM - Mike Glass: yea it smells bad but no worse then cutting it on the table saw
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:38 PM - NFOsec: yeah, that's the idea.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:39 PM - NFOsec: true. especially cutting treated lumber... I saw a show once, was it Mystery Diagnosis where a woman was accused of attempting to kill her husband.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:39 PM - Mike Glass: so 450 for speed for engraving and 35 power
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:39 PM - NFOsec: turns out there was arsenic and some other compounds in the wood that they were breathing in open air during sawing. they desserted this unbelievable home they built.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:39 PM - NFOsec: good, 35 is possibly high, you don't want the notches to be too deep.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:40 PM - Mike Glass: laserbits says 100 speed and 30 power
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:41 PM - NFOsec: eventually, if you want to be "good", you use your CNC and create laser templatse, forms that will hold various pre-fab parts for engraving, etc.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:41 PM - NFOsec: I have that for the dog tags I do and some small signs.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:42 PM - NFOsec: yeah, but remember, they are providing guidance. maybe 300/30 if you want to compromise, but my experience was 30 at 50% would be better than 30 at 100% laser through.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:42 PM - NFOsec: you could even reduce that to 25% which doesn't help much. :)
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:42 PM - NFOsec: run it on some cardboard to see how it turns out.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:49 PM - nonmindo: MG got pics of this device you're using? I'm just curious what it looks like
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:50 PM - nonmindo: enjoyed watching Bill's video of that CNC, though it was super fucking loud lol
    Oct 3, 2015 at 10:52 PM - Mike Glass: http://imgur.com/VEmn6Ln
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:52 PM - Mike Glass: ok 30 at 50speed was too much
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:52 PM - nonmindo: nice! thats pretty big
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:54 PM - Mike Glass: yea its huge
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:55 PM - NFOsec: well, some may have lower profiles, but you can go pretty deep with the bed.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:55 PM - NFOsec: was it?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:55 PM - NFOsec: not 50 speed, 30% at say 200 speed, 50% laser through (that bottom box of the cut panel details)
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:56 PM - NFOsec: 50 speed would be pretty slow for 30% power.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:56 PM - NFOsec: 3 numbers for cuts, speed, power, and laser through power.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:56 PM - NFOsec: nice layout there MG.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:56 PM - NFOsec: wish my place was cleaner. :)
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:57 PM - NFOsec: but given your profession, I suppose you're used to racking, packing, stacking, and zip tying. :)
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:57 PM - Mike Glass: bah sometimes, its a freaking mess in here now
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:58 PM - NFOsec: I love the t-glase vase/bowl (blue) you have in the right corner.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:58 PM - NFOsec: that's a spin from the other you showed above with .8 nozzle?
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:59 PM - Mike Glass: yea thats with the .8 with JustPLa filament
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:59 PM - Mike Glass: looks like 20 is even too deep
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:59 PM - NFOsec: wow, pretty shiny.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:59 PM - NFOsec: still, nice output.
Oct 3, 2015 at 10:59 PM - NFOsec: was it at medium print quality or?
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:00 PM - NFOsec: one rotor guard almost done.

Oct 3, 2015 at 11:00 PM - NFOsec: appears to be a 94 minute print.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:00 PM - NFOsec: doing 30% infill for a little extra strength.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:02 PM - NFOsec: I have to try this photo to 3D feature in NetFabb as well as how well it handles Kinect scanning which appears to be pretty good.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:04 PM - Mike Glass: ok down to 10 power now.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:04 PM - NFOsec: how fast?
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:05 PM - NFOsec: remember, the less power you pull on the laser the longer it can last, but speed is key to that.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:06 PM - NFOsec: making the rulers for the kid(s)?
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:06 PM - Mike Glass: still at 50 looks good not surface flashing
    Oct 3, 2015 at 11:06 PM - NFOsec: .
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:06 PM - Mike Glass: im going to do it in reverse
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:07 PM - NFOsec: that's always the cool thing.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:07 PM - NFOsec: looking thru it.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:08 PM - Mike Glass: specially when you light up plexi
    Oct 3, 2015 at 11:08 PM - NFOsec: yeah.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:08 PM - Mike Glass: yea no flashing at all I like it
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:09 PM - NFOsec: man, I tell you, netfabb really makes a difference when cleaning up these files, the print I have now came out 10x better than the previous with just poly / triangle reduction and clean-ups.
    Oct 3, 2015 at 11:09 PM - NFOsec: cool.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:09 PM - NFOsec: let the fun begin.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:10 PM - NFOsec: the price was steep, but I'm quickly realizing the benefits.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:12 PM - Mike Glass: you dont want the outside to cut first do you?
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:12 PM - NFOsec: I always set the order for cuts to be last.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:12 PM - Mike Glass: hmm
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:12 PM - NFOsec: especially if you have possible drop-pieces (things that fall below the surface of the material.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:12 PM - Mike Glass: thats what I though
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:13 PM - NFOsec: just click on the scan, move up until it's on the top.
    Oct 3, 2015 at 11:13 PM - NFOsec: it's in chronological order.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:16 PM - NFOsec: one thing is for certain, I'm happy I have s3d working "flawlessly" now.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:16 PM - Mike Glass: why is it cutting the line twice for the cutout
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:16 PM - NFOsec: it really isn't, if you click on the lines you'll see there are two colors, the blue is actually the deep cut, the other is the top cut (sort of the shape).
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:17 PM - NFOsec: one doesn't have full power through. The other possibility is the original file had manually created a 2-pass cut.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:17 PM - NFOsec: you can delete out of the outlines, but I would suggest not the blue one.,
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:18 PM - NFOsec: I saw that second set when I was trying to align it up.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:21 PM - Mike Glass: I got one deleted but can get the others out
    Oct 3, 2015 at 11:22 PM - NFOsec: good.
    Oct 3, 2015 at 11:23 PM - NFOsec: I may do this one. http://www.3ders.org/articles/20150...red-by-prize-winning-xombie-lunar-lander.html
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:25 PM - Mike Glass: ok got it fixed but I see it has a little jog in the middle
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:25 PM - Mike Glass: thats looks cool.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:27 PM - NFOsec: definitely is, pretty low cost to build, but I have some wild ideas with that.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:29 PM - NFOsec: well bud, gonna watch some boob toob for a few minutes than hit the hay. catch you later.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:29 PM - NFOsec: nice work btw.
Oct 3, 2015 at 11:32 PM - Mike Glass: ok gotta fix a smoke alarm battery keeps going off, appearently I cut my stock to short anyways. night

Oct 4, 2015 at 8:05 AM - Bill Monroe: I'm still tuning the servos on my router
    Oct 4, 2015 at 8:06 AM - NFOsec: morning.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:06 AM - nonmindo: hey, question guys, i wasnt paying attention when i took off my extruder gear to remove the hobbed bolt to clean it, and i JUST noticed there is a washer just chillin on my carriage, i'm not sure where it belongs, perhaps between the large gear and the bearing??
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:06 AM - Bill Monroe: Nfo
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:07 AM - Mike Glass: NOFO
    Oct 4, 2015 at 8:07 AM - NFOsec: MiG
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:07 AM - nonmindo: also, good morning lol
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:08 AM - NFOsec: non: I think it's an American rule that you should always have at least 1 part left over when rebuilding something.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:08 AM - nonmindo: hahaha true..and it DOES seem to be printing alright
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:09 AM - NFOsec: could it be for the spring?
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:09 AM - nonmindo: well....alright-ish.... but the issues im having areent going to be related to that washer lol
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:09 AM - Mike Glass: im pulling up the robo step file now nonmindo
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:09 AM - nonmindo: its large

Oct 4, 2015 at 8:10 AM - nonmindo: oh wheres the file i tried looking in the robo site, maybe i didnt look in the right spot
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:10 AM - Mike Glass: on thingiverse MK has it
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:11 AM - Mike Glass: still cant get that stupid ruler to cut the inside first NFO.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:12 AM - nonmindo: is it just in one of his uploaded carriage posts?
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:14 AM - Mike Glass: no just on his thingiverse page
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:14 AM - NFOsec: MiG: if you want it to cut first, click on the "cut" job in the list, then press "Move up" so it's at the top of the list.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:14 AM - Mike Glass: yea I did that still doesnt work
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:14 AM - NFOsec: it always processes in the order shown, but, optimize paths could throw it off if it is checked (or isn't checked).
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:14 AM - Mike Glass: cause it still cutting the outside twice
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:15 AM - Mike Glass: if I dont flip it, it works
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:15 AM - NFOsec: did you re-send the job after making changes?
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:15 AM - nonmindo: hmm cant seem tyo find it :-/
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:17 AM - NFOsec: send me the file, I can look at it.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:17 AM - NFOsec: printing rotor guard #2 for the Phantom
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:17 AM - NFOsec: doing this guards so the wife can appreciate the flying too. :)
    Oct 4, 2015 at 8:21 AM - NFOsec: MG: can't sleep eh?
    Oct 4, 2015 at 8:21 AM - Mike Glass: I got my 5 hours
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:22 AM - NFOsec: yeah, ditto.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:22 AM - Mike Glass: Nonmindo watch this.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:23 AM - NFOsec: heh... the way he's turning and displaying that thing looks like he's flashing gang signs.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:25 AM - NFOsec: non: most likely one of the 4 washers on the large gear.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 8:25 AM - Mike Glass: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vu0t4s69me8o8r1/mikruler.rld?dl=0
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:25 AM - NFOsec: just a spacer washinger for geer alignment, your gears are probably touching.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 8:26 AM - NFOsec: ok <Dr. Evil>I'm firing up the "laser"</Dr. Evil>
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:31 AM - nonmindo: ok cool, sorry was aftk....yea thats what i thjought, and cool, i knew it was gregs wade based, jusdt wasnt sure if it was identical to the others assedmbly wise, perfect! ty
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:34 AM - NFOsec: MG when I looked at your file, you have 2 cuts shown. one is black and the other is blue.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 8:34 AM - NFOsec: right?
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:35 AM - NFOsec: nom: good to know.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:35 AM - Mike Glass: yep
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:35 AM - NFOsec: ok, which is the top one in the list?

Oct 4, 2015 at 8:35 AM - Mike Glass: the engraving
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:35 AM - NFOsec: well, if you wanted the cut first (the blue one), move it up.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:36 AM - NFOsec: don't call cuts engravings, that would be "scan".
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:36 AM - NFOsec: otherwise someone might b-slap you, and I'm not tellin.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:36 AM - Mike Glass: No I dont want the first cut at all i want engraving first
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:37 AM - NFOsec: so you're saying when you ran this, it didn't do the "lines" (which are shown as cut here.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 8:37 AM - NFOsec: first?
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:37 AM - Mike Glass: yes it cuts it out first in the preview
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:40 AM - Mike Glass: ok I clicked on the first cut and made a new layer then delted that one, now it cuts out correctly after moving the new one up to the top.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:40 AM - NFOsec: yeah, founjd the problem.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:40 AM - NFOsec: you had the black still there.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:40 AM - NFOsec: remember, the process is by color too,.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:41 AM - NFOsec: I tried to change the outline to a different color and I noticed it didn't, meaning it had another set of lines under it.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:41 AM - Mike Glass: funny just flipping it made it do that though.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:42 AM - NFOsec: yeah, but that moved the blue to the top vs. the bottom.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:42 AM - NFOsec: some of these actually cut in order of precedence on the color scale too.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:42 AM - NFOsec: if your natural layout was black top blue under, you flipped it, then the natural order would have changed.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:43 AM - NFOsec: never really understood the true value of the first outline, so I deleted it.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:43 AM - NFOsec: as they said in the movie "Fifth Element" - multi-pass.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:43 AM - NFOsec: probably is all.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:45 AM - Mike Glass: lol
    Oct 4, 2015 at 8:45 AM - donhuevo: morning
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:46 AM - NFOsec: morning donjuevo.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:46 AM - NFOsec: ack, donhuevo.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:46 AM - NFOsec: sorry, slipped finger.
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:46 AM - Mike Glass: donny
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:46 AM - donhuevo: did I see jb printed multi color with my carriage?
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:47 AM - NFOsec: yeah, it was more of a hairy monster though. :)
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:47 AM - donhuevo: yep, the retraction settings need some attention especially with bowden
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:48 AM - Mike Glass: he need a spring I think he was saying
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:49 AM - Mike Glass: ok here goes nothing
Oct 4, 2015 at 8:49 AM - Mike Glass: guess I need to put tape underneath right?
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:03 AM - Mike Glass: came out perfect. woot. [IMG]
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:04 AM - donhuevo: very pretty
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:04 AM - NFOsec: well, tape under helps for clear and residual effect against the laser / material / bed, but nice.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:04 AM - NFOsec: that is with your .8 hot end eh?
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:04 AM - Mike Glass: yep and clear t-glase
    Oct 4, 2015 at 9:04 AM - Mike Glass: at 280c
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:05 AM - NFOsec: you know, I noticed one part of my bed (right side) seems to have filament squashed on first layers but the left does not. I've done auto-leveing, turned the threaded rods, etc. a few times around but still getting some odd off-level.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:05 AM - NFOsec: good deal.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:06 AM - donhuevo: now you just need to make rulers where the 1 inch marks are only about 3/4 inches apart. it will be a HUGE hit at parties
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:06 AM - Mike Glass: yea autocompensate sucks, gonna to what MK has here soon I think.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:07 AM - Mike Glass: this one is off by .0015
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:08 AM - donhuevo: that will not impress the ladies
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:08 AM - Mike Glass: says my super dupper certified $3k calipers..lol
    Oct 4, 2015 at 9:08 AM - donhuevo: haha
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:10 AM - WheresWaldo: Noon everyone
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:11 AM - donhuevo: howdy waldo
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:12 AM - WheresWaldo: Don, I sent you a couple of files
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:12 AM - donhuevo: grabbed the zip file
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:12 AM - WheresWaldo: The modded firmware is the important piece.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:13 AM - donhuevo: just grabbed it too.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:13 AM - donhuevo: turns out my sbase is 1.0 and my tft is 1.1
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:14 AM - WheresWaldo: Also my mks_config.txt is now all in English.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 9:14 AM - donhuevo: sweet
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:14 AM - WheresWaldo: I think this works on TFT 1.1 and up
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:16 AM - donhuevo: in my limited experimenting, I found the 1.0 sbase would not power the tft. I still had to give it it's own power
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:16 AM - WheresWaldo: Debating whether or not I want to the Wifi module, I may even have one already left over from other projects.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:17 AM - WheresWaldo: Does your have the 12v/5v jumper?
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:18 AM - donhuevo: where might that be?
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:18 AM - WheresWaldo: Bottom right side looking at the back of the board.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 9:19 AM - donhuevo: doesn't look like it
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:21 AM - WheresWaldo: Supposed to be set to 12v anyway, likely the default of the 1.1 board.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 9:22 AM - jbigler1986: Hello
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:24 AM - WheresWaldo: The guy who makes the SBase board confirmed on the reprap forums that there is a power issue with 1.0, reluctantly. He is constantly being challenged by Arthur (Smoothie). He plainly said he won't release board designs for fear of copies from other Chinese cloners.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:25 AM - WheresWaldo: Power issue seem to be very specific and not something that would come up in normal use.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:25 AM - donhuevo: Frank Wei?
    Oct 4, 2015 at 9:25 AM - WheresWaldo: Yeah
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:26 AM - WheresWaldo: I can't remember what username he uses on reprap.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:26 AM - donhuevo: I'm looking at my board and comparing it to the 1.1 pics on aliexpress and I don't see any jumper by the 2 big caps
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:27 AM - WheresWaldo: TFT has the jumper, not the Sbase, sorry.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:27 AM - donhuevo: damnit jim
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:28 AM - WheresWaldo: Hey JB, your hello got lost in Don and my conversation.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 9:28 AM - donhuevo: it's set to 12v
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:29 AM - WheresWaldo: Let me check the PDF
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:29 AM - donhuevo: shit. hi jb
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:30 AM - donhuevo: yep, it needs to be at 5v for the sbase to power it. cool!
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:30 AM - WheresWaldo: Change it to 5v. The 12v setting is for RAMPS boards only
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:31 AM - WheresWaldo: Did you ever connect this to a RAMPS board?
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:32 AM - donhuevo: yes. ran the robo with it for a bit
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:33 AM - WheresWaldo: How did it compare to say, the Full Graphics Controller?
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:34 AM - donhuevo: other than wishing I could programatically change up the workflow, I liked it better
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:34 AM - WheresWaldo: I might buy another one, if it works well.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:35 AM - donhuevo: I had a fair amount of repetitive printing to do (chain link conduit) so I used the tft for that
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:36 AM - WheresWaldo: It would also be a good way to add Wifi to the robo, I'm thinking.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:38 AM - WheresWaldo: One thing I am finding, is that it seems to work much better with a stylus than my fat fingers. Dug out my old Dell Axiom stylus to use with this.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:40 AM - donhuevo: I'm thinking my tft case has to be deeper to allow room for it
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:41 AM - WheresWaldo: I created on that sweeps forward 30°, had a heck of a time getting the screen to match the cutout. The dimensions in their PDFs are slight differnt than my actual board.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:42 AM - donhuevo: my board matched the pdf really well
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:42 AM - WheresWaldo: The back is completely open since this was for mounting on 2020 extrusion.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:43 AM - donhuevo: then for you, the wifi should be a non-issue
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:43 AM - WheresWaldo: My screen was shifted 2 mm to the left
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:43 AM - donhuevo: my controller is more handheld. I was thinking of adding magnets to be able to just stick it to the printer when not in use
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:46 AM - jbigler1986: Dual was running. Got a stupid temp fall error. Need to change the washer on the 2nd extruder thermistor. Pretty sure its making it short
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:46 AM - donhuevo: I saw the pics. they made me happy
    Oct 4, 2015 at 9:46 AM - WheresWaldo: [IMG]
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:46 AM - donhuevo: very nice waldo
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:47 AM - WheresWaldo: The other side has a knock out for the 12v in, but otherwise it's not visible.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:49 AM - WheresWaldo: Just need to add a clip to hold the stylus.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:49 AM - NFOsec: haha on the 3/4" marks.

Oct 4, 2015 at 9:50 AM - NFOsec: so, don's "damnit jim" wasn't followed up with something like: "I'm an engineer, not a doctor" or such.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:50 AM - donhuevo: thanks NFO. I'm here all week
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:50 AM - NFOsec: is the horn preventing Trekkie day?
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:50 AM - donhuevo: remember to tip your waitress
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:51 AM - NFOsec: only at the tilted kilt.
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:52 AM - donhuevo: so yeah jb.... looks like you're dialing it in
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:53 AM - jbigler1986: Yeah. Offset was off by 1mm. Fixed that. Extruder 1 retraction would skip BC tension springs sucked. Got new ones today. So as soon as in get home in like 30 minutes I will fix the temp fall error
Oct 4, 2015 at 9:56 AM - donhuevo: too early to say the design is gonna work?
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:03 AM - NFOsec: WW: what is that part going to be for?
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:04 AM - donhuevo: thats his case for the mkstft touch screen controller
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:06 AM - NFOsec: ah, gotcha.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 10:06 AM - NFOsec: nice.
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:15 AM - jbigler1986: Nope. Design is going to work. Very simple to adjust height. Works great
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:16 AM - donhuevo: very cool
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:16 AM - donhuevo: NFO... here's my version of the tft case... [IMG]
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:30 AM - Mattchu: hey MG, how often did that laser you got appear on ebay?

Oct 4, 2015 at 10:37 AM - donhuevo: what are they asking?
    Oct 4, 2015 at 10:37 AM - jbigler1986: 499
    Oct 4, 2015 at 10:39 AM - donhuevo: hmmmm
    Oct 4, 2015 at 10:41 AM - jbigler1986: Could probably get it for 400
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:42 AM - donhuevo: being a pawn shop, I'm sure they wouldn't be able to tell you how many hours were on it or demonstrate it for you either. I'd try and get it for $300
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:42 AM - Mattchu: does it have a controller, Jibigler?
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:43 AM - jbigler1986: No. Controller would be easy to add though. Has all of the wiring
    Oct 4, 2015 at 10:43 AM - donhuevo: now it's at $200
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:45 AM - Mattchu: I'd say go for it then. If you're up for the wiring challenge. I'm more interested in the fact it looks like (and I could be wrong here) it has mini servos instead of steppers.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 10:47 AM - jbigler1986: So temping
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:49 AM - Mattchu: DO IT!
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:49 AM - Mattchu: want help? how about this. iyou build a tray around it, you could run coolant/oil. This machine could probably do aluminum at a reasonable rate.
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:50 AM - jbigler1986: The spindle looks like beast
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:50 AM - Mattchu: it's doable. honestly the motors are going to be your weakest point lol
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:52 AM - Mattchu: you'll also need to go shopping for a wrench for the spindle (a standard might fit it though).
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:54 AM - NFOsec: looks like a decent rig.
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:55 AM - jbigler1986: Axis moves nice a smooth. Can move them with the knobs on the motors
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:56 AM - Mattchu: I do like that it still has the tiny clamps. You can easily cut more of those, or buy them from McMaster Carr, Enco, or MSC
    Oct 4, 2015 at 10:58 AM - NFOsec: can print too... :)
    Oct 4, 2015 at 10:59 AM - jbigler1986: Its really clean
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:59 AM - NFOsec: Based on what I see, the asking price would be enough for just the spindle itself.
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:59 AM - Mattchu: lol, no NFO, that's how cutters get busted and parts thrown.
Oct 4, 2015 at 10:59 AM - NFOsec: is this belt driven?
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM - jbigler1986: Nope. Ball screw
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM - NFOsec: worthwhile then.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM - NFOsec: jbig: print in titanium.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM - Mattchu: offer them 350 and a 12pack.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM - NFOsec: I'm glad you see my weak point.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:00 AM - NFOsec: actually, come in at 275, settle for 350.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:01 AM - Mattchu: titanium = awful tool metal
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:01 AM - NFOsec: mention that the ball screw will most likely need to be replaced as for most that are not kept oiled/maintained.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:01 AM - jbigler1986: This place is in the ghetto. So I'm sure nobody else knows what the hell it even is
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:01 AM - NFOsec: Mattchu: now you're catching on.. . :)
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:01 AM - NFOsec: LOL.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:01 AM - Mattchu: AWFUl. are you trying to get people killed?!
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:02 AM - Mattchu: =-p
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:02 AM - jbigler1986: This line is madness
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:02 AM - NFOsec: well, then offer $200, don't go above $350 though. Good negotiation skills are to start low enough and find their next number.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:02 AM - Mattchu: tell them you're relaly only interested in the parts.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:02 AM - NFOsec: Mattchu: nothing a gun with a trigger and a stupid person wouldn't do.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:02 AM - jbigler1986: I'm going to try and get it for $250. Offer $200 at first
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:02 AM - NFOsec: actually, you can't talk like you know what it is.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:03 AM - NFOsec: yeah.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:03 AM - NFOsec: that works.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:03 AM - NFOsec: if they don't take your $200, I'll cover it for $225.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:03 AM - NFOsec: lol.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:03 AM - jbigler1986: Tell them I need to add a controller and what not
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:03 AM - Mattchu: does it have a computer to work it? no? well dang
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:03 AM - NFOsec: I have no room. I have a 36" square table, can't find more room right now for another flat surface.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:04 AM - Mattchu: does it have a tank for coolant/the spindler cooler?
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:04 AM - jbigler1986: No. Just has the pump and tubing for it
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:04 AM - Mattchu: so you wouldn't want to buy my old school jet lathe, NFO? :D
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:04 AM - NFOsec: LOL. tell them you'd need to buy Mach3 ($299), a cheap laptop $199 (yet they'll probably sell you one for $100, cables, etc.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:05 AM - NFOsec: Mattchu: I do not venture into unknown areas until I get educated first my man. I'd love to learn/do lathe stuff, but just not yet.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:05 AM - NFOsec: in fact, I sort of created a 4th axis "lathe" on my CNC table.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:05 AM - Mattchu: that's 4th axis, you're not turning yet ;)
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:05 AM - Mattchu: you don't know true fear, until you see a part football off.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:05 AM - NFOsec: rotary engraving but with a strong clamping system so I could turn (but you know it's not the same thing)
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:05 AM - NFOsec: yeah.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:05 AM - NFOsec: I know.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:06 AM - NFOsec: One of my friends family here in Wisconsin makes some of the best pool cues in the world.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:06 AM - jbigler1986: Tell them its taking up floor space
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:06 AM - NFOsec: they do inlays by hand, I suggested they try laser.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:07 AM - NFOsec: point is, once you act like a little boy in the toy store, they'll know you're interested.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:07 AM - NFOsec: put on a blonde wig and act dumb.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:07 AM - jbigler1986: Lok
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:07 AM - Mattchu: but the beautiful thing about lathes...threading.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:07 AM - NFOsec: or send your wife/girlfriend to do the deal and tell her nothing more than $200-250.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:07 AM - NFOsec: yeah Matt.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:07 AM - jbigler1986: Well I have neither of those right now
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:08 AM - jbigler1986: You know why too
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:08 AM - NFOsec: LOL. :)
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:08 AM - NFOsec: your mother still around?
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:08 AM - jbigler1986: Hopefully I can snag it for $250 or less
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:08 AM - jbigler1986: She is yeah
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:08 AM - NFOsec: they can be mean negotiators when they find their kid is losing money.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:09 AM - NFOsec: tell them you might consider selling your prosthetic leg if they'd reduce the cost.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:09 AM - Mattchu: do you have cash jbigler?
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:09 AM - NFOsec: haha.. guilt trip some?
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:09 AM - NFOsec: yeah, cash rules.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:10 AM - Mattchu: you tell them you only got 250 in cash (and you better maker sure you have that, and only that in your wallet)

Oct 4, 2015 at 11:10 AM - NFOsec: so I started printing rotor guards for the Phantom, did 2 in red (which are nice) but doing the other two in gold (Glod for those of you who know about that new color).
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:10 AM - jbigler1986: I don't carry cash
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:10 AM - NFOsec: tell them yo'ull buy it for $200 and $50 in store credit.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:11 AM - NFOsec: if you walked in, dropped $250 on the table and said this is what you have, they'll take it.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:11 AM - NFOsec: I doubt they pawned it for more than $50-75 unless they were given lots of value info up front.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:11 AM - jbigler1986: I will let you know when I finally get up there
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:11 AM - NFOsec: call up Rick Harrison and ask what he'd pay.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:12 AM - NFOsec: I was thinking of doing the other 2 in a different color, like black, but black as an airborne object isn't as appealing.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:12 AM - NFOsec: good luck.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:13 AM - Mattchu: if you go black, it has to be a wiz kalifa paint job
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:13 AM - Mattchu: you know, black and yellow
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:20 AM - NFOsec: yeah, black would be a really nice one since the phantom is white with gold decals at the moment.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:21 AM - NFOsec: I'm a big silver and gold or black and gold fan.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:21 AM - NFOsec: the yellow would be too bold I think, like a bee. I don't want people thinking a large bee is coming at them. :)
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:21 AM - NFOsec: besides, they're not for me, they're for my wife to learn to fly.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:24 AM - Mike Glass: ok im back what did I mess
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:25 AM - Mike Glass: or even miss
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:25 AM - donhuevo: jb is going to try and buy a cnc from a local pawn shop and NFO brought up the unicorn AGAIN
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:26 AM - Mike Glass: I think his printer has a bigger bed.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:26 AM - donhuevo: if only he had had an acrylic ruler to lay next to the cnc for scale
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:27 AM - donhuevo: those looked like at least nema 23's to me
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:29 AM - Mike Glass: be fun for metal
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:30 AM - donhuevo: metal would be fun in general
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:30 AM - Mike Glass: its ok, but messy
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:31 AM - Mike Glass: I rather 3d print then cast
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:31 AM - donhuevo: not airborn messy like sawdust though
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:31 AM - donhuevo: and speaking of casting... haven't seen blake in a while
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:32 AM - Mike Glass: well if you have a filtration system and dust collector its a non issue
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:32 AM - Mike Glass: He's in Kentucky
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:32 AM - donhuevo: that's no excuse
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:32 AM - Mike Glass: yea, must be busy, usually calls me on the weekdends.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:33 AM - donhuevo: well, as soon as you figure out what you did to piss him off, apologize
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:34 AM - Mike Glass: what kind of cool things can i laser on a beer bottle..hmm
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:34 AM - donhuevo: I'd tell you to put a cobra on the bottle, but I know how you like to draw them so that's out
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:35 AM - Mike Glass: ah pooo
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:36 AM - donhuevo: I need to try and sort out that forked dict today, speaking of your cobra
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:38 AM - Mike Glass: I need to get one done also, it should be simple tube then split
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:40 AM - jbigler1986: They came down to 350. No thanks
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:40 AM - jbigler1986: Oh well
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:41 AM - jbigler1986: And the bed on it is way bigger than the RoBo bed
    Oct 4, 2015 at 11:43 AM - jbigler1986: Yeah I think the are double shafted nema 23's
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:45 AM - donhuevo: mostly simple except my radial fan's outlet is canted about 45 degrees
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:49 AM - NFOsec: fun fun and games.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:53 AM - Mike Kelly: http://de.aliexpress.com/item/3D-pr...70.html?adminSeq=224263635&shopNumber=1936246 this is mighty tempting
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:54 AM - donhuevo: that cannot be true
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:57 AM - Printed Solid: That $70 ali express scam just keeps popping up.
Oct 4, 2015 at 11:57 AM - Printed Solid: It should be curious to hear what people do on Monday when they miss their guaranteed 0 day shipment window :)
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:00 PM - Printed Solid: I like on that one how they call it injection molded and then show most of the pictures as 3D printed parts.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:02 PM - JeffTheMess: whatsup fellas
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:04 PM - Printed Solid: hello
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:05 PM - donhuevo: hey jeff
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:05 PM - JeffTheMess: anybody got something fun for me to print? haven't printed in like 3 weeks
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:07 PM - daniel871: Whoever did the Aria dragon on Thingiverse has a creepy frog doll you can print.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:10 PM - JeffTheMess: i like printing functional things not to much "pretty art"
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:10 PM - Printed Solid: well, then what do you need?
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:11 PM - Printed Solid: what's broken? print that.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:11 PM - JeffTheMess: the last thing I printed was a quad then a cookie cutter of minnie mouse for my daughter....so anything that "seems" useful
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:12 PM - Printed Solid: lol. I understand now.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 12:13 PM - JeffTheMess: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:49925 maybe a mop?
    Oct 4, 2015 at 12:14 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:14 PM - Printed Solid: have you seen Leo the Maker Prince? It's a book that teaches 3D printing stuff to kids and there are some printable items in it.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 12:14 PM - jbigler1986: Y is off .7mm. Sluts
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:15 PM - Printed Solid: yup.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 12:17 PM - JeffTheMess: http://www.thingiverse.com/make:72017
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:18 PM - Printed Solid: that would be cool.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:18 PM - Printed Solid: What about Halloween stuff? It's about time for that.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:20 PM - donhuevo: orange squinty shot glasses
    Oct 4, 2015 at 12:25 PM - JeffTheMess: moth of printing http://www.instructables.com/id/3D-Printer-Enclosure-Maker-Space/
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:28 PM - donhuevo: he didn't want to catch cancer
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:29 PM - NFOsec: Printed Solid: What's your excuse on hot ends? :)
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:30 PM - NFOsec: looks like a drop-down cover for the filaments? hood like? otherwise, need one.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:32 PM - NFOsec: I see it now. mud flap. so, that light (non-LED) wouldn't that dry out the filament a bit too much?)
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:33 PM - NFOsec: interesting layout for humidity/temperature control.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:34 PM - PeterkSharma: hey all
    Oct 4, 2015 at 12:36 PM - NFOsec: MG: casting for you - http://www.3ders.org/articles/20151...rinter-using-lost-polymer-casting-method.html
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:36 PM - NFOsec: hello peter
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:37 PM - NFOsec: if you look at that link, read the last sentence just before the final step/picture/video.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:37 PM - NFOsec: not a smart advocation to state.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:37 PM - JeffTheMess: damn you NFO i wish i didnt see that! lol
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:38 PM - NFOsec: No kidding eh?
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:38 PM - NFOsec: I'm thoroughly trained in the lost wax process from the old days of making jewelry/casting of fine things, but not much beyond that.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:38 PM - JeffTheMess: the idea is pretty good
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:39 PM - JeffTheMess: makes it seem anyone can do it
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:39 PM - NFOsec: oh, it isn't that tough.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:39 PM - NFOsec: actually, I chuckled because the video showed start time like 3:06am, the guy was definitely on a crack or caffeine crazy.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:40 PM - PeterkSharma: they sell a wax filament specifically for castin
    Oct 4, 2015 at 12:40 PM - JeffTheMess: http://www.instructables.com/id/Beer-Bottle-Lock/
    Oct 4, 2015 at 12:40 PM - NFOsec: yeah.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:41 PM - NFOsec: OMG, GOT to do that.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:41 PM - PeterkSharma: i wonder if you could print the lock
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:43 PM - NFOsec: Peter, you can.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:43 PM - NFOsec: I have printed one variation of a cylinder
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:44 PM - NFOsec: pin-tumbler locks are kind of a common thing on Thingiverse.
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:44 PM - NFOsec: I printed out a large variation to demonstrate picking.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 12:44 PM - NFOsec: one I liked. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:11240
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:46 PM - JeffTheMess: someone should make the yclip with the plaster idea
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:46 PM - NFOsec: here is a much more rudimentary version Jeff: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:598585
    Oct 4, 2015 at 12:47 PM - NFOsec: yclip?
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:47 PM - JeffTheMess: for the robo
Oct 4, 2015 at 12:48 PM - NFOsec: not sure what "part" that is, but will look at part schematic.

    Oct 4, 2015 at 12:51 PM - NFOsec: that's easy enough.

Oct 4, 2015 at 12:57 PM - JeffTheMess: anybody ever print a plane glider? that seems fun for me to print
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:00 PM - NFOsec: I have, in fact I've actually printed the bones for the fuselage for an FA-18 Hornet. I've found it to be relatively clean and quite lightweight, but for gliders, I think a slide-notch-pin method could allow you to print one of my favorite gliders (8' wingspan "Big Bird").
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:00 PM - NFOsec: the concept of a dovetail with a thin pin or piano wire for fastening.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 1:01 PM - NFOsec:
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:02 PM - NFOsec: BillMonroe here would be a good person to ask about those things... kind of his life -- wings.
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:03 PM - JeffTheMess: yeah, i was looking for one of those simple glider with the rubber band that you would twirl....my daughter would like it
    Oct 4, 2015 at 1:04 PM - NFOsec: lots on thingiverse.com
    Oct 4, 2015 at 1:04 PM - NFOsec: whirlybirds I think they're called or the rubber-band glider
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:05 PM - NFOsec: weak design on this one http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:596858 but the idea is there.
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:06 PM - NFOsec: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:37110 or http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1004841 might be more fun...
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:06 PM - JeffTheMess: might give it a..."whirl" (sorry)
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:07 PM - NFOsec: well, better than not giving a flying...
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:07 PM - PeterkSharma: anyone have experience with conductive filament?
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:09 PM - NFOsec: I have a sample of it, it works, but I didn't want to use much when I have only a single hot end (ordered a few others) because it is somewhat abbraisive.
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:10 PM - NFOsec: kind of reminds me of that conductive putty / ink that Adafruit sold.
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:10 PM - NFOsec: works, just need an application for it. :)
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:10 PM - PeterkSharma: thinking about trying to do a step up transformer
    Oct 4, 2015 at 1:10 PM - JeffTheMess: ^bold
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:11 PM - NFOsec: I don't mess with electric, not knowledgeable enough beyond basic stupidity.
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:11 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah i dont know shit about it hahaha
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:11 PM - PeterkSharma: i just use low power and high frequency
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:11 PM - PeterkSharma: so i wont get electruted.... just burned
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:11 PM - PeterkSharma: Im also trying to make vacuum tubes
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:12 PM - JeffTheMess: why not just use copper wire with a iron core?
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:12 PM - PeterkSharma: I am, but i want to be able to 3d print it so I can make more than one and they are perfectly balanced
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:12 PM - PeterkSharma: with eachother
    Oct 4, 2015 at 1:12 PM - JeffTheMess: ahh
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:13 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah, and you and print some cool shaped inductors!
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:14 PM - PeterkSharma: anyone know if you can pull vacuums on 3d printed chambers?
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:15 PM - NFOsec: pull vacuums such as the bed?
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:15 PM - JeffTheMess: the horrible mistake i made trying to open a stl file in inventor
    Oct 4, 2015 at 1:15 PM - PeterkSharma: like 3d print a vacuum chamber
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:16 PM - PeterkSharma: and wondering if it will hold a vacuum
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:17 PM - NFOsec: oh, well I don't see why not.
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:18 PM - NFOsec: some materials may print more porous than others, but with an infill > 50% it sounds like you can have +-10% tolerance with a vacuum vs. 100% infill.
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:18 PM - NFOsec: there is someone on thingiverse that printed a vacuum chamber and lifted a bowling ball.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 1:19 PM - NFOsec: I'm no engineer, but it isn't rocket science. :)
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:20 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah i want to print a fillament chamber
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:20 PM - PeterkSharma: that I can put fillament in, pull a vacuum and get all the moisture out of it
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:21 PM - NFOsec: mm... that's doable. Are you talking in-line as it goes to print or something stationary you could drop a spool in?
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:22 PM - NFOsec: might as well buy a large humidor with a vacuum.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 1:22 PM - PeterkSharma: drop a spool in
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:23 PM - PeterkSharma: the goal is to use a tesla valve and tesla turbine and 3d print the motor to see if it can work
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:23 PM - PeterkSharma: i want to try and 3d print all of it
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:23 PM - PeterkSharma: i have so much filament i have to start figuring out something to do with it
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:41 PM - NFOsec: I haven't seen a good model of the tesla yet have you?
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:42 PM - NFOsec: Man, I love tehat funny bottle lock thing.
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:42 PM - NFOsec: hilarious. as soon as this last rotor guard is completed I'm going to print a 6 pack of those.
Oct 4, 2015 at 1:51 PM - NFOsec: word up danz.
Oct 4, 2015 at 2:05 PM - PeterkSharma: of what part of tesla?
Oct 4, 2015 at 2:05 PM - PeterkSharma: I have some I've designed and a few a friend has worked on
Oct 4, 2015 at 2:59 PM - jbigler1986: OK. Went back with $275 cash. Got it
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:00 PM - jbigler1986: I will put my extra RoBo bed on it so you can see the size of it
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:28 PM - NFOsec: jbig: good news for you.
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:34 PM - jbigler1986: Need to get a controller for it. I don't think a ramps will be powerful enough
    Oct 4, 2015 at 3:38 PM - daniel871: Ugh. I hate that stupid login screen for Simplify3d.
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:39 PM - daniel871: Using the same password I use for logging in to my account, but it says "invalid password".
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:39 PM - daniel871: And the new version apparently won't go ahead and open Simplify3d if you close that dialog box like the previous version did. (have a support email in, but I've already tried running as Administrator and Compatibility mode for Windows 7 off of Windows 10)
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:42 PM - daniel871: Also, apparently because I chose to reserve and download when available with the "prompt me before installing" that means "install Windows 10 at 1am as if it's a regular update to Windows 7".
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:48 PM - Mike Kelly: man i hate wiring
    Oct 4, 2015 at 3:54 PM - jbigler1986: Anyone have a suggestion for a controller?
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:56 PM - Mike Kelly: controller for what now
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:57 PM - Mike Kelly: oh just scrolled up, neat
    Oct 4, 2015 at 3:58 PM - jbigler1986: Uses ball screws too
    Oct 4, 2015 at 3:58 PM - jbigler1986: I will get a pic of the size shortly
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:58 PM - Mike Kelly: great find
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:59 PM - Mike Kelly: are those nema 23 motors?
    Oct 4, 2015 at 3:59 PM - jbigler1986: Pretty sure. Haven't taken a really close look yet
Oct 4, 2015 at 3:59 PM - Mike Kelly: you could use a ramps with external stepper drivers
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:00 PM - jbigler1986: Double shaft BC the knob on the outside of the stepper allows you to manually move the axis
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:00 PM - jbigler1986: Would that be better or just a different kind of controller?
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:01 PM - Mike Kelly: you really don't need a lot of processing power for a cartesian system
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:02 PM - jbigler1986: What drivers would you suggest
    Oct 4, 2015 at 4:03 PM - Mike Kelly: http://www.omc-stepperonline.com/4-...r-m542t-driverr-kit-for-cnc-router-p-200.html
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:04 PM - Mike Kelly: man i think the broncos are gonna lose
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:05 PM - Mike Kelly: http://www.omc-stepperonline.com/5-...face-for-stepper-motor-driver-stv2-p-197.html this might do you for the control board
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:11 PM - jbigler1986: Spindle has a plug to control it. They are all 4 pin connectors
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:12 PM - jbigler1986: I am on my way home and I will grab some pics
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:19 PM - Mike Kelly: oh snap i think the broncos just won
    Oct 4, 2015 at 4:21 PM - jbigler1986: 49ers are a joke this year
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:22 PM - krouton3: ok so i figured out what my x axis grinding noise is comingfrom
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:22 PM - Mike Kelly: it's cause they cut crabtree
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:22 PM - Mike Kelly: and he jumped across the bay to the raiders
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:22 PM - krouton3: apparently its the z axis on the right side just vibrating againsts its housing
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:23 PM - krouton3: cause if i hold it the grindign noise seems to dissapear
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:24 PM - jbigler1986: Crabtree was not good at San Fran
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:24 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i don't really follow pros
    Oct 4, 2015 at 4:25 PM - jbigler1986: Kapernick sucks
    Oct 4, 2015 at 4:25 PM - jbigler1986: We need a pocket qb
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:25 PM - jbigler1986: I would take Alex Smith back at this point
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:26 PM - jbigler1986: Did Notre Same end up losing
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:26 PM - Mike Kelly: i dunno after losing to the bangels
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:26 PM - Mike Kelly: yes
    Oct 4, 2015 at 4:26 PM - jbigler1986: Dame
    Oct 4, 2015 at 4:26 PM - jbigler1986: Haha
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:26 PM - jbigler1986: My boss is going to be in a shitty mood this week

Oct 4, 2015 at 4:27 PM - krouton3: so i made atmporary patch with some paper to fill in the housing for ti and it sound sso much better ahah
    Oct 4, 2015 at 4:27 PM - krouton3: i still need to lube the z axis though
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:40 PM - NFOsec: jbig: why would a boss be in a shitty mode? giving him/her a reason to be?
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:41 PM - NFOsec: jbig: kapernick's eyes are too close together.
Oct 4, 2015 at 4:48 PM - jbigler1986: BC he is a huge Notre Dame fan. He is a donates to them and stuff
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:00 PM - NFOsec: mm... now THAT I didn't know... Netfabb was acquired by Autodesk.
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:07 PM - Mike Glass: yea NFO, now its gonna go down the tubes..lol
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:08 PM - NFOsec: not really, based on some details, it's going to align with the professional arm of things more so than the public/free side like many of their other products.
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:08 PM - NFOsec: but, risk is everything everywhere.
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:09 PM - Mike Glass: what are you working on?
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:10 PM - NFOsec: well, finished the rotor guards (look and work great), then printed some bottle top locks (humorous), at the moment researching a few ideas. yerself?
    Oct 4, 2015 at 5:14 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:14 PM - jbigler1986: Gives you an idea of the size
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:14 PM - NFOsec: can't remember where, but I've seen this. it's a decent platform. good deal for you.
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:16 PM - jbigler1986: That's my spare RoBo glass bed sitting on it
    Oct 4, 2015 at 5:16 PM - Mike Glass: How much $250
    Oct 4, 2015 at 5:16 PM - jbigler1986: $275
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:16 PM - Mike Glass: good deal JB.
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:16 PM - NFOsec: yeah. definitely good deal.
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:16 PM - Mike Glass: bbl dinner time
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:17 PM - jbigler1986: Now just need to get drivers, PSU and a ramps
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:17 PM - NFOsec: already ate, so don't leave aplate for me.
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:42 PM - Mike Glass: jb, just get a uno with a cnc shield, would be uber cheap and it would work great with estlcam.
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:46 PM - Mike Kelly: damn that's a huge cut area
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:46 PM - Mike Glass: looked smaller then I thought for sure.
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:47 PM - Mike Glass: for that much I would buy them all day.
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:47 PM - Mike Kelly: seriously
Oct 4, 2015 at 5:53 PM - Mike Kelly: you can barely buy the stepper motors for that much
    Oct 4, 2015 at 5:55 PM - jbigler1986: Ball screw's too
    Oct 4, 2015 at 5:57 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
    Oct 4, 2015 at 5:59 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:03 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:08 PM - jbigler1986: You think 4988 drivers would be enough though?
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:08 PM - jbigler1986: That's what seems to come with uno CNC shields
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:08 PM - Mike Glass: I would use 8825
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:09 PM - Mike Glass: you can get a blank sheild
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:09 PM - NFOsec: your specs.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:09 PM - NFOsec: Specification X,Y,Z Working Area: 390×280×55mm Max. Oct 4, 2015 at 6:10 PM - NFOsec: I knew I recognized it. here is a listing on ebay for a comparable.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:10 PM - NFOsec: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200864210343
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:12 PM - jbigler1986: Wonder how much this spendel costs. Its nice
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:13 PM - jbigler1986: 1.8amp. Hmmm
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:14 PM - Mike Kelly: i don't think you'd get enough current for nema 23's on 8825s even
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:14 PM - jbigler1986: That's what I'm reading. Some say maybe
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:15 PM - Mike Kelly: maybe is probably what i would lean
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:15 PM - Mike Kelly: they are 23's right?
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:15 PM - jbigler1986: Don't see any model number on them. Let me try to find one
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:15 PM - Mike Kelly: measure it
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:15 PM - Mike Kelly: nema 17's are 40mm
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:16 PM - Mike Kelly: that's some good luck finding that thing
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:17 PM - NFOsec: definitely look like 23s to me. I've got about 8 here that are for the Zenbot.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:17 PM - NFOsec: MK: what do you mean?
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:17 PM - Mike Glass: they are 57 oz?
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:17 PM - NFOsec: spindle definitely is worth more than what you paid for the whole thing.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:18 PM - Mike Kelly: width
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:18 PM - Mike Kelly: you can get those spindles (minus the water cooling) for like 80
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:18 PM - jbigler1986: 76mm long
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:18 PM - Mike Kelly: i'm kinda kicking myself i didn't buy one of those spindles instead of the router
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:18 PM - Mike Kelly: not length but width
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:18 PM - NFOsec: well, I should say it's worth about as much.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:19 PM - Mike Kelly: 42.3mm
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:19 PM - NFOsec: some of the lower powered ones go around 300w 12vdc $75-100.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:19 PM - jbigler1986: Width is a little over 56mm
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:19 PM - Mike Kelly: i dunno i'd say it's still a good price
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:19 PM - NFOsec: yeah, it was good luck for jbig to find it.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:19 PM - jbigler1986: 56.5mm width
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:20 PM - Mike Kelly: then definitely nema 23*
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:20 PM - Mike Kelly: err
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:20 PM - Mike Kelly: nema 23
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:20 PM - NFOsec: yup. couldn't get closer. :)
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:20 PM - jbigler1986: Pretty sure the spindle has model number. 1 sec
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:21 PM - NFOsec: that machine, with 10 tools and driver/PSU runs about $1500-1600 new.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:21 PM - NFOsec: the PSU/driver are going to be your choice options and cheap enough.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:22 PM - Mike Kelly: http://www.piclist.com/techref/io/stepper/nemasizes.htm just now getting where the nema naming comes from
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:22 PM - jbigler1986: Gdz-65-800
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:23 PM - jbigler1986: 800w spindle
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:24 PM - jbigler1986: Looks like the spindle alone new is like $160
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:25 PM - Mike Glass: $128 I saw but close enough
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:25 PM - Mike Glass: there is a 4 and 2 bearing options
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:26 PM - jbigler1986:
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:27 PM - NFOsec: good deal there.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:28 PM - Mike Glass: holy crap that is noisy..lool
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:28 PM - jbigler1986: Alright. PSU and controller options from you genius'
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:28 PM - NFOsec: would something similar to a gecko 540 (but only 3-axis) driver work?
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:29 PM - NFOsec: Before I upgraded to the G540 for 4-axis work I had another driver -- works great, is about 3 years old. I used Mach3 with Parallel connection to PC.
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:29 PM - NFOsec: don't look at me. I'm a hobbiest.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:29 PM - krouton3: btw those that were curious what i was talking about for my fix for grinding noise when going across x axis http://i.imgur.com/CE5w7WD.jpg
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:29 PM - NFOsec: oh, nice, load a 30mb picture will you...
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:31 PM - NFOsec: great way to provide a denial of service to tap-tap users (but not one here).
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:31 PM - NFOsec: wtf, the rod rattling?
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:31 PM - NFOsec: definitely wouldn't be turning...
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:32 PM - NFOsec: man, I wish my Robo3D case had clean cut edges like that.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:32 PM - krouton3: yea sounded like a grinding noise but putting that piece of paper there seemed to fix it
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:32 PM - NFOsec: to me that seems to indicate that maybe the rods are out of alignment thus causing stress somewhere.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:33 PM - NFOsec: check and tighten all nuts?
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:33 PM - NFOsec: that's a wierd one. maybe it's a figment of your imagination.. :)
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:36 PM - krouton3: well that piece of paper seems to work and it hasnt been messing up p[rints so its all good lol
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:37 PM - Mike Glass: you nee to print the rod caps
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:37 PM - NFOsec: one thing that I would think would be more appropriate is to figure the fitting for that and use a rubber boot in there.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:37 PM - NFOsec: yeah, rod caps.

Oct 4, 2015 at 6:37 PM - Mike Glass: shit, guess saving a project doesnt save your power settings does it?
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:39 PM - NFOsec: actually for the "laser", sure it does.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:39 PM - NFOsec: if you save it in RDWorks, it will be saved as it is. If you have it in something else for import into RDWorks, it's whatever it reads the lines to for defaults. why?
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:40 PM - NFOsec: key is you have to "save" it.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:40 PM - Mike Glass: ok, for some reason it didnt but was the same type of job..duh
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:40 PM - NFOsec: problem I had was overwriting something that was open in the system already. .
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:40 PM - NFOsec: LOL.

Oct 4, 2015 at 6:41 PM - NFOsec: so, produce any tangible products today?
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:41 PM - Mike Glass: dont get a parrellel port, live in the 90's at least
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:42 PM - NFOsec: or are you still on the Chinese-Hopeful-Experimenting-American-Program?
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:42 PM - NFOsec: yeah.
Oct 4, 2015 at 6:42 PM - NFOsec: but it was "free".
    Oct 4, 2015 at 6:42 PM - NFOsec: the one I was offering. :)
