Oct 6, 2015 9:57 AM - Mattchu: it's true. hell, even sanding it is beautiful.
    Oct 6, 2015 9:57 AM - Mike Kelly: agreed
Oct 6, 2015 9:57 AM - Mike Kelly: sanding PLA is so tedious
Oct 6, 2015 9:57 AM - Mike Kelly: with abs it's very pleasant

Oct 6, 2015 9:59 AM - Mike Kelly: my enclosure traps the smell
Oct 6, 2015 9:59 AM - Mike Kelly: i only notice any smell when i open the lid
Oct 6, 2015 10:00 AM - Mattchu: actually, if JB has an older robo, or has the older robo ABS, that's actually a thing.

Oct 6, 2015 10:07 AM - Mattchu: also, I think it'd dim the lights more than a little just powering it on.

Oct 6, 2015 10:30 AM - Mattchu: dude, the software for that thing is astounding.
Oct 6, 2015 10:30 AM - Mike Glass: software for pancakes?
Oct 6, 2015 10:33 AM - Mattchu: yes, but it lays it out a specific way.
    Oct 6, 2015 10:34 AM - Mattchu:
Oct 6, 2015 10:35 AM - danzca6: put pancake batter in a ketchup squeeze bottle and you can do the same thing by hand right
    Oct 6, 2015 10:36 AM - Mattchu: I'm not that talented :p
Oct 6, 2015 10:36 AM - Mattchu: but yes you can.
Oct 6, 2015 10:36 AM - Mattchu: but it's the fact the software knows the outlines/dark areas and does them first, or can work to a gradient.
Oct 6, 2015 10:37 AM - danzca6: a little practice and you will be a picasso with that thing
Oct 6, 2015 10:37 AM - danzca6: it's tradition with my family that Sat morning is pancake breakfast. I get all sorts of requests for shapes
    Oct 6, 2015 10:38 AM - Mattchu: niiice! that's super cool! :)
Oct 6, 2015 10:38 AM - Mattchu: my family was never like that..

    Oct 6, 2015 10:41 AM - Mike Glass: $800 pancake maker..lol
Oct 6, 2015 10:41 AM - danzca6: did see a machine at a holiday inn express once that would just dispense the batter onto an internal belt at a push of the button and would go through a bake. Came out on the plate all ready to eat...now that would be cool
    Oct 6, 2015 10:42 AM - Mike Kelly: i've used those before
Oct 6, 2015 10:42 AM - danzca6: takes the fun out of it though I guess
    Oct 6, 2015 10:45 AM - Mattchu: ...now I want pancakes
Oct 6, 2015 10:46 AM - danzca6: pancakes and ice cream make a good mid day treat
    Oct 6, 2015 10:47 AM - danzca6: I don't know why I question being overweight anymore :)
    Oct 6, 2015 10:47 AM - Mattchu: lol

Oct 6, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Glass: and bloatware month is next month..thats what we call it here at work.
Oct 6, 2015 10:51 AM - danzca6: I thought next month is the month not to shave

    Oct 6, 2015 11:07 AM - danzca6: good grief
Oct 6, 2015 11:07 AM - danzca6: pancakes are so good for so many things
    Oct 6, 2015 11:08 AM - jbigler1986: i'm not a big fan
Oct 6, 2015 11:09 AM - Mike Glass: yuck pancakes icky
    Oct 6, 2015 11:09 AM - jbigler1986: i like crepes

Oct 6, 2015 11:10 AM - Mattchu: well, on that note, I'm going to hunt for lunch, then work. catch you kids later!
Oct 6, 2015 11:10 AM - danzca6: I used to laugh at the Uncle Buck movie, because I would make pancakes so big that I would sometimes need something like a snow shovel to flip
    Oct 6, 2015 11:10 AM - danzca6: later matt
    Oct 6, 2015 11:12 AM - donhuevo: [IMG]
    Oct 6, 2015 11:12 AM - jbigler1986: i need to find 1/8 inch bit
Oct 6, 2015 11:12 AM - jbigler1986: that looks like a mess waiting to happen
    Oct 6, 2015 11:13 AM - danzca6: yum

Oct 6, 2015 11:34 AM - Mike Kelly: i wish those would come back on prime
Oct 6, 2015 11:34 AM - Mike Glass: problem is that you cant cut very deep with the 1/4 w/1/8. here is one though. http://www.amazon.com/Diameter-Shan...444156721&sr=1-1&keywords=1/4+to+1/8+end+mill
    Oct 6, 2015 11:38 AM - jbigler1986: oh shit. wrong link
Oct 6, 2015 11:39 AM - Mike Kelly: this company probably has a collet for your spindle: http://www.elairecorp.com/products.html
Oct 6, 2015 11:39 AM - Mike Kelly: or router
    Oct 6, 2015 11:39 AM - jbigler1986: i can do 1/4 and 3/8 shank bits
Oct 6, 2015 11:39 AM - Mike Kelly: i forget what brand you have
Oct 6, 2015 11:39 AM - Mike Glass: These are sweet also, http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HCZPUV0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
    Oct 6, 2015 11:39 AM - jbigler1986: it's not for the spindle. it's for my router
Oct 6, 2015 11:39 AM - Mike Kelly: http://www.elairecorp.com/colletadapter.html or get an adapter
Oct 6, 2015 11:40 AM - Mike Kelly: right what router do you have
Oct 6, 2015 11:40 AM - Mike Glass: you have a spindle on your router dont you?
    Oct 6, 2015 11:41 AM - jbigler1986: https://www.menards.com/main/tools-...p-2256523-c-10087.htm?tid=-932398876665225597
    Oct 6, 2015 11:41 AM - jbigler1986: got it on sale for $30 bucks
    Oct 6, 2015 11:41 AM - Mike Kelly: oh
Oct 6, 2015 11:42 AM - Mike Glass: probably not gonna find one for that
Oct 6, 2015 11:42 AM - Mike Kelly: i'd be worried running that continuously unless you know it's got metal holders for the bearings
Oct 6, 2015 11:42 AM - Mike Kelly: a reducer would be your best bet
Oct 6, 2015 11:42 AM - Mike Glass: yea they have some on amazon that may work
Oct 6, 2015 11:46 AM - Mike Glass: seems to be a makita clone, other than color.
Oct 6, 2015 11:46 AM - jbigler1986: yeah it was only 30 so I said why not. No idea if the bearing holders are metal or not
Oct 6, 2015 11:47 AM - Mike Glass: just look at the bottom see if its all metal
    Oct 6, 2015 11:47 AM - jbigler1986: it is
    Oct 6, 2015 11:47 AM - jbigler1986: i know that much
Oct 6, 2015 11:47 AM - Mike Glass: should be fine then
Oct 6, 2015 11:47 AM - jbigler1986: and yeah it looks identical to that makita
Oct 6, 2015 11:48 AM - Mike Glass: thats what the cnc community was saying.
    Oct 6, 2015 11:48 AM - jbigler1986: expect for different speed knob
    Oct 6, 2015 11:49 AM - jbigler1986: i wish the shaft was a little longer though. don't have a ton of room for z
    Oct 6, 2015 11:49 AM - Mike Glass: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1VAFVX89KBH21MCJ8Y4H this may work.
Oct 6, 2015 11:51 AM - jbigler1986: i will take a pic of the spare collet for you guys later
Oct 6, 2015 11:51 AM - Mike Glass: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0..._m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_r=1VAFVX89KBH21MCJ8Y4H this may be the best option though
    Oct 6, 2015 11:51 AM - Mike Glass: yea it has a 3/8 and a 1/4 right?
    Oct 6, 2015 11:51 AM - jbigler1986: yeah
Oct 6, 2015 11:53 AM - Mike Glass: you can get a 1/4 single flute bit from lowes, it cut nice on my router.
    Oct 6, 2015 11:53 AM - jbigler1986: may stop there after work
    Oct 6, 2015 11:55 AM - Mike Glass: something like this. http://www.lowes.com/ProductDisplay?productId=1007649
Oct 6, 2015 11:55 AM - jbigler1986: may have a 1/4 inch one. need to check the little set i got
    Oct 6, 2015 11:56 AM - jbigler1986: my lowes has 1 in stock
Oct 6, 2015 11:56 AM - Mike Glass: then you need to order some v-groove bits from drillman1 on ebay.
Oct 6, 2015 11:58 AM - jbigler1986: almost got a nice bosch palm router for $30. They had the wrong price sticker on it. Refused to give it to me for that price
    Oct 6, 2015 11:59 AM - jbigler1986: bastards
Oct 6, 2015 12:00 PM - Mike Glass: well if it is a newer version do dont want it.
    Oct 6, 2015 12:00 PM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
    Oct 6, 2015 12:01 PM - jbigler1986: that show cracks me up
    Oct 6, 2015 12:09 PM - jbigler1986: MG
    Oct 6, 2015 12:09 PM - Mike Glass: yeah
Oct 6, 2015 12:10 PM - jbigler1986: you can't use lcd on the cnc can you?
Oct 6, 2015 12:10 PM - Mike Glass: yea sure, I have one on mine
Oct 6, 2015 12:10 PM - jbigler1986: since you have to home it and zero it and stuff
Oct 6, 2015 12:11 PM - jbigler1986: or you just do that then start the gcode?
Oct 6, 2015 12:11 PM - Mike Glass: i just manually set it on the piece to cut.
Oct 6, 2015 12:12 PM - Mike Glass: then hit go on the lcd or the slicer.
Oct 6, 2015 12:13 PM - jbigler1986: so really no need to have a pc connected to it at all then
Oct 6, 2015 12:15 PM - Mike Glass: well depends if you have enough control over it manually or not. I would not use the lcd for adjusting the z height when lining up, I have a manual screw that I can twist.
Oct 6, 2015 12:16 PM - jbigler1986: i can do that too. there are knobs on the outside of each steppers
Oct 6, 2015 12:16 PM - Mike Glass: ah cool
Oct 6, 2015 12:17 PM - Mike Glass: if you are using mach software, im not sure thats will work the same way as what I do though.
Oct 6, 2015 12:18 PM - jbigler1986: yeah not sure what software I want to use yet to generate the gcode
Oct 6, 2015 12:18 PM - Mike Glass: if you want simple use estlcam
Oct 6, 2015 12:19 PM - jbigler1986: free? will just pause after a while? How long is a while
Oct 6, 2015 12:20 PM - Mike Glass: I havent registered mine yet, just after awhile it makes you wait to open a file is all.
    Oct 6, 2015 12:20 PM - jbigler1986: hmmmm
Oct 6, 2015 12:21 PM - Mike Glass: and I use mine everyday, so not a big deal in the least
    Oct 6, 2015 12:21 PM - jbigler1986: meshcam looks very simple
    Oct 6, 2015 12:40 PM - Kevin Nguyen: hello
Oct 6, 2015 12:41 PM - Kevin Nguyen: so i've been trying to print with my new e3d. and just recently i keep getting the same error on my xxl lcd. Temp fail error.

Oct 6, 2015 12:46 PM - jbigler1986: do you get the error right when you power up the printer?
Oct 6, 2015 12:52 PM - Mike Kelly: [IMG] one chain on
Oct 6, 2015 12:58 PM - jbigler1986: you were right. That is a lot of links
Oct 6, 2015 12:58 PM - Kevin Nguyen: it get it after it finished the first layer of my print

Oct 6, 2015 12:59 PM - Kevin Nguyen: im putting a new thermistor together right now.
Oct 6, 2015 12:59 PM - jbigler1986: turn down the fan percentage to likr 50
Oct 6, 2015 1:02 PM - Mike Glass: looking good MK
Oct 6, 2015 1:03 PM - Kevin Nguyen: okay. ill try that jbig. new thermistor is reading too.
Oct 6, 2015 1:08 PM - Mike Kelly: thanks, need to reprint the angle iron supports, already broke them :(
    Oct 6, 2015 1:09 PM - jbigler1986: tisk tisk
Oct 6, 2015 1:09 PM - Mike Kelly: does simplify3d have a mirror object option?
    Oct 6, 2015 1:10 PM - jbigler1986: not sure. don't remember if i did it in s3d or netfabb
Oct 6, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Kelly: i'll just do it in netfabb
Oct 6, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Kelly: wait no, mirror mesh
    Oct 6, 2015 1:11 PM - jbigler1986: no clue
Oct 6, 2015 1:11 PM - Mike Kelly: that's the command, Mesh > Mirror Mesh

Oct 6, 2015 1:12 PM - Mike Kelly: man the porn spam on google+ has gotten out of control
    Oct 6, 2015 1:12 PM - jbigler1986: what have you been searching
Oct 6, 2015 1:15 PM - daniel871: Figures that after I drop the money on the BigBox pre-order I get the Robo back to about 99% working like I want it to.
Oct 6, 2015 1:15 PM - daniel871: Also, S3D stopped f-ing around and let me log in finally.
Oct 6, 2015 1:16 PM - daniel871: Probably some stupid DNS issue or something where my rural internet wasn't finding their server or something dumb like that.
Oct 6, 2015 1:18 PM - danzca6: well think of it this way...you will have 2 working printers. minimizes downtimes
    Oct 6, 2015 1:18 PM - danzca6: lol
Oct 6, 2015 1:19 PM - daniel871: Maybe, I have to assemble the BigBox so it may not work if I fuck up and crack the acrylic frame tightening a screw or something. God I hope not.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:20 PM - jbigler1986: i thought you ordered it assembled?
Oct 6, 2015 1:20 PM - daniel871: Nope, they took the assembled version off the website before I got around to it.
Oct 6, 2015 1:21 PM - Mike Kelly: oh daniel you pulled the trigger?
    Oct 6, 2015 1:21 PM - daniel871: Yeah.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:21 PM - jbigler1986: well i am going to have 0 printers when I get home
Oct 6, 2015 1:22 PM - daniel871: Just the BigBox Pro kit. I'm finding that a dual setup really isn't worth it for anything I've been doing other than "Hey, this can print two colors!" when I can just as easily paint it or whatever after.
Oct 6, 2015 1:22 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i dunno about dual
    Oct 6, 2015 1:22 PM - Mike Kelly: it's such a mixed bag
Oct 6, 2015 1:23 PM - jbigler1986: i like dual from the 2 seconds i had it running before the 2nd extruder connector crapped out
Oct 6, 2015 1:25 PM - jbigler1986: now the printer will have no electronics on it
Oct 6, 2015 1:26 PM - jbigler1986: although 24v psu, uno cnc shield will be here tomorrow
    Oct 6, 2015 1:26 PM - jbigler1986: i mean thursday
    Oct 6, 2015 1:26 PM - jbigler1986: and 8825 drivers
Oct 6, 2015 1:27 PM - danzca6: did anyone see that MC 1.4 came out?
Oct 6, 2015 1:27 PM - danzca6: you can monitor prints remotely it looks like now
Oct 6, 2015 1:27 PM - jbigler1986: nope. refuse to even download it
Oct 6, 2015 1:28 PM - jbigler1986: you could already check on print status
Oct 6, 2015 1:28 PM - Mike Kelly: do they have a temp graph?
Oct 6, 2015 1:28 PM - Mike Kelly: and show error codes
    Oct 6, 2015 1:29 PM - danzca6: yeah...I don't use it anymore, but thought it was interesting
Oct 6, 2015 1:29 PM - jbigler1986: MK they will never have temp graph. Just give up
Oct 6, 2015 1:29 PM - danzca6: Using MatterControl Sync, a website that connects you to your 3D printer, it is now possible to interact with your device remotely. You can check on print progress, send files to your queue, or start and stop prints. If you are using a MatterControl Touch, the integrated camera can provide an image of your latest progress
Oct 6, 2015 1:30 PM - jbigler1986: stop prints would the only useful thing
Oct 6, 2015 1:31 PM - danzca6: and if you can't see it...then why stop it remotely. who wants to pay for their touch
Oct 6, 2015 1:31 PM - daniel871: You could get an OctoPi with camera set up for less than the MC Tablet.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:32 PM - danzca6: agreed
Oct 6, 2015 1:32 PM - daniel871: Though actual remote viewing may be tricky, as I haven't figured that out yet.
Oct 6, 2015 1:33 PM - daniel871: Worked on the local WiFi, but I'm not conversant enough in Linux to set up internet streaming off of the Pi itself.
Oct 6, 2015 1:33 PM - danzca6: oh and they have a Braille Builder for 3d printing labels in braille
Oct 6, 2015 1:33 PM - daniel871: Also rural internet probably isn't fast enough to do it properly.
Oct 6, 2015 1:33 PM - danzca6: does that mean most folks using MC are blind?
Oct 6, 2015 1:34 PM - daniel871: They'd have to be to think the prints they are getting look good.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:34 PM - danzca6: haha
Oct 6, 2015 1:34 PM - daniel871: Some of the MC prints I'm seeing on FB look terrible to me.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:34 PM - Printed Solid: Hello.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:35 PM - danzca6: hey matt
Oct 6, 2015 1:36 PM - Printed Solid: Is it anti MC day today?
    Oct 6, 2015 1:36 PM - jbigler1986: I refuse to buy anything from Matterhackers
    Oct 6, 2015 1:37 PM - Printed Solid: :)
    Oct 6, 2015 1:37 PM - jbigler1986: everyday is
Oct 6, 2015 1:37 PM - Printed Solid: The day ends in Y, right?
Oct 6, 2015 1:37 PM - Printed Solid: Ya, they've had some printer companies pull out.
Oct 6, 2015 1:37 PM - danzca6: Matt, got my shipment of cleaner filament from you the other day...can't wait to try it when I switch filament next
Oct 6, 2015 1:38 PM - jbigler1986: Matt you never sent the label
Oct 6, 2015 1:38 PM - Printed Solid: great. It's not super exciting. Like brushing your teeth.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:38 PM - Printed Solid: I know.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:38 PM - danzca6: I love brushing my teeth ;)
Oct 6, 2015 1:38 PM - Printed Solid: It's been a 'only things that absolutely need to get done' kind of a month.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:38 PM - jbigler1986: just a reminder
Oct 6, 2015 1:38 PM - Printed Solid: Yup. I owe you and a few other people. Returnish type things are my downfall.
Oct 6, 2015 1:38 PM - daniel871: Hey, JB, did you say Extruder 2 was acting up?
Oct 6, 2015 1:39 PM - daniel871: I've basically stopped experimenting with my Extruder 2 because it has issues.
Oct 6, 2015 1:39 PM - jbigler1986: it's the connector for the heater is all. The thermistor i redid yesterday from the same connector because it was causing issues. Should have done both at the same time
Oct 6, 2015 1:39 PM - daniel871: Ironically, it was the more expensive stepper.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:40 PM - danzca6: bbl...grass is calling my name....happy printing folks (or cnc...or laser) lol
Oct 6, 2015 1:40 PM - daniel871: Is anyone else still printing parts for the CES contest thing?
Oct 6, 2015 1:40 PM - jbigler1986: matt you should carry some 6mm drive gears
Oct 6, 2015 1:41 PM - daniel871: Also 8mm for the poor bastards like me that got an oddball shank on their geared stepper.
Oct 6, 2015 1:41 PM - jbigler1986: only the Tatsu v2 has 6mm bore. Lots of geared steppers have 6mm shaft
Oct 6, 2015 1:41 PM - daniel871: That gear on the 6mm shaft works great by the way.
Oct 6, 2015 1:42 PM - jbigler1986: I just got an aluminum spacer from ace that had 8mm OD and 5mm ID. Just drilled it out with a 6mm bit then drill a hole in it for the set screw
    Oct 6, 2015 1:42 PM - jbigler1986: Works perfectly
Oct 6, 2015 1:43 PM - daniel871: That drive gear with an 8mm bore has been stripping out on the filament, JB.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:44 PM - jbigler1986: yeah the one from tridprinting?
    Oct 6, 2015 1:44 PM - daniel871: Yep.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:44 PM - jbigler1986: yeah it sucks
    Oct 6, 2015 1:44 PM - daniel871: Filling it's teeth with filament.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:45 PM - jbigler1986: i am using these ones and I am not a fan. [IMG]
Oct 6, 2015 1:45 PM - jbigler1986: one bored out to 8mm and one bored out to 6mm
Oct 6, 2015 1:46 PM - daniel871: Wish I could get a good search on Amazon for a welding wire drive gear that would work with 1.75mm filament and put that on there.
Oct 6, 2015 1:46 PM - jbigler1986: the only ones that i could make work for both and have same esteps
Oct 6, 2015 1:47 PM - daniel871: Or get a rigid enough setup to drill one of my spare Tatsu v2 gears out to 8mm without fucking it up.
Oct 6, 2015 1:47 PM - daniel871: Had it go thru on one without wrecking the teeth, but the hole was crooked as it went thru so the gear wouldn't run straight.
Oct 6, 2015 1:47 PM - jbigler1986: doubt there is enough meat to bore it out 2mm without breaking it where the teeth are
Oct 6, 2015 1:48 PM - jbigler1986: yeah you need to do it with a drill press to get it straight
Oct 6, 2015 1:49 PM - daniel871: I did it with a lathe, but the drill bit started walking halfway thru the gear.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:49 PM - jbigler1986: hmm
    Oct 6, 2015 1:50 PM - daniel871: Need a really short, rigid bit I think.
Oct 6, 2015 1:50 PM - jbigler1986: flip the drive gear over and come from the other side
Oct 6, 2015 1:52 PM - Printed Solid: I picked up a zmorph printer. That thing has an insane drive gear. I cannot manually pull the filament out.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:53 PM - jbigler1986: is it a double gear setup?
    Oct 6, 2015 1:53 PM - Printed Solid: nope.
Oct 6, 2015 1:53 PM - Printed Solid: just the standard gear and a bearing.
Oct 6, 2015 1:53 PM - Printed Solid: trying to find a picture now. The hob pattern is kind of scallopped.
    Oct 6, 2015 1:54 PM - jbigler1986: interesting
Oct 6, 2015 1:55 PM - Printed Solid: I'll browse around a bit. If I find someone selling something like it, I'll give you a heads up.
Oct 6, 2015 1:56 PM - jbigler1986: awesome. yeah drive gears have been an issue for me
    Oct 6, 2015 1:56 PM - jbigler1986: not enough 8mm bore options
    Oct 6, 2015 1:57 PM - Printed Solid: e3d hobb goblin?
    Oct 6, 2015 1:57 PM - jbigler1986: i don't get how people run bowden with a non geared stepper
    Oct 6, 2015 1:57 PM - jbigler1986: it's 5mm
Oct 6, 2015 1:58 PM - Printed Solid: They have both. I could get one for you on my next order.

    Oct 6, 2015 1:58 PM - jbigler1986: well then
Oct 6, 2015 1:59 PM - Printed Solid: I've got to check inventory. Everything is a mess from makerfaire. Not sure when I need to place a next order.
Oct 6, 2015 1:59 PM - jbigler1986: looks like filament may walk with that though
    Oct 6, 2015 1:59 PM - jbigler1986: maybe not
Oct 6, 2015 2:00 PM - Printed Solid: I don't know. I've never had filament walk except on extruders with a huge gap between the drive gear and the entrance to the hot end.
Oct 6, 2015 2:00 PM - jbigler1986: yeah i have ptfe running right up to the drive gear
Oct 6, 2015 2:01 PM - Printed Solid: You can't really walk then.
    Oct 6, 2015 2:01 PM - jbigler1986: using hecustruder rev 20
    Oct 6, 2015 2:01 PM - jbigler1986: had to modify it a bunch
Oct 6, 2015 2:01 PM - Printed Solid: Of course. that's the fun, right?
Oct 6, 2015 2:01 PM - Kevin Nguyen: alright still the same problem
Oct 6, 2015 2:02 PM - Printed Solid: I've got to go to dinner. be on later.
Oct 6, 2015 2:02 PM - jbigler1986: not at all. print it. edit the model. print again. rinse and repeat
Oct 6, 2015 2:02 PM - Kevin Nguyen: my printer finishes the first layer then i get "temp fall error
Oct 6, 2015 2:02 PM - jbigler1986: did you change parts fan percentage?
    Oct 6, 2015 2:02 PM - Kevin Nguyen: i did
Oct 6, 2015 2:03 PM - Kevin Nguyen: ill take it off completely. i dont think i need it.
Oct 6, 2015 2:04 PM - jbigler1986: just disable it and see what happens
Oct 6, 2015 2:05 PM - Kevin Nguyen: trying again now
Oct 6, 2015 2:09 PM - PeterkSharma: hey PS got the stickers :)
Oct 6, 2015 2:23 PM - jbigler1986: alright. time to go wire the cnc
Oct 6, 2015 2:23 PM - jbigler1986: be back in like an hour
Oct 6, 2015 3:31 PM - Printed Solid: I hope you got the other stuff that came with the stickers as well!
    Oct 6, 2015 3:55 PM - PeterkSharma: haha yes i did!
Oct 6, 2015 3:55 PM - PeterkSharma: imjust getting the printer up now to try and calibrate it s i can print with it
    Oct 6, 2015 4:00 PM - jbigler1986: Oh yeah. Y axis is alive
    Oct 6, 2015 4:00 PM - Printed Solid: good.
Oct 6, 2015 4:01 PM - Printed Solid: I'm preparing a lesson plan for a 3D Printing training program I am doing at an art college.
Oct 6, 2015 4:01 PM - Printed Solid: I wasn't nervous about it at all until my last training session at a school where everyone except for the art teacher did just fine.
Oct 6, 2015 4:01 PM - Printed Solid: I need to come up with different analogies.
    Oct 6, 2015 4:03 PM - jbigler1986: this is for the cnc
Oct 6, 2015 4:03 PM - Printed Solid: I'm just talking about my own stuff :p
    Oct 6, 2015 4:03 PM - jbigler1986: lol
    Oct 6, 2015 4:03 PM - jbigler1986: you are a busy man
    Oct 6, 2015 4:04 PM - Printed Solid: I know.
    Oct 6, 2015 4:04 PM - Printed Solid: I need to take a nap.
    Oct 6, 2015 4:40 PM - jbigler1986: x and y are alive. gonna eat then do z
    Oct 6, 2015 4:43 PM - Mike Glass: sweet
    Oct 6, 2015 4:46 PM - jbigler1986: probably upload the mpcnc firmware
Oct 6, 2015 4:46 PM - BryZad: Hi all how has everyone been doing ?
Oct 6, 2015 4:50 PM - Mike Glass: Hey bry
    Oct 6, 2015 5:13 PM - BryZad: How you been Mike G
Oct 6, 2015 5:22 PM - Mike Glass: busy, busy.
    Oct 6, 2015 5:54 PM - jbigler1986: Damnit
    Oct 6, 2015 5:55 PM - jbigler1986: Max temp error
Oct 6, 2015 5:58 PM - jbigler1986: Sensors at 0 in firmware I get (heater-0-maxtemp) was not declared when trying to compile it
Oct 6, 2015 6:05 PM - Mike Glass: what firmware are you using
Oct 6, 2015 6:09 PM - jbigler1986: I tried the mpcnc but with that axis only moves in one direction. Can't go the other way
Oct 6, 2015 6:09 PM - jbigler1986: With the RoBo firmware it moved both ways
Oct 6, 2015 6:13 PM - jbigler1986: However I get temp errors with RoBo firmware
Oct 6, 2015 6:13 PM - jbigler1986: It won't let me change temp sensor to 0 without a bunch of errors
    Oct 6, 2015 6:21 PM - jbigler1986: Hmmm
    Oct 6, 2015 6:22 PM - jbigler1986: Z won't move up. Only down. The other 2 are fine
Oct 6, 2015 6:26 PM - jbigler1986: Something I need to change for z axis in the firmware?
    Oct 6, 2015 6:30 PM - jbigler1986: Z endstop is being triggered. Hmm
Oct 6, 2015 6:41 PM - jbigler1986: Got that fixed. So how can gcode start of the extruder isn't heated?
Oct 6, 2015 6:48 PM - jbigler1986: OK. Got it fixed. Had to unplug the endstops. Woops
    Oct 6, 2015 6:48 PM - jbigler1986: All axis are good now
    Oct 6, 2015 6:50 PM - jbigler1986: time to test
Oct 6, 2015 6:51 PM - Mike Glass: dont crash it
Oct 6, 2015 6:52 PM - jbigler1986: finger will one the power switch
    Oct 6, 2015 6:52 PM - jbigler1986: on*
Oct 6, 2015 8:11 PM - jbigler1986: well it works if I can figure out how to write the gcode
Oct 6, 2015 8:12 PM - NFOsec: hey, hey, hey.
Oct 6, 2015 8:14 PM - Mike Kelly: the martian was good
    Oct 6, 2015 8:15 PM - jbigler1986: can i convert a nc file to gcode?
    Oct 6, 2015 8:16 PM - jbigler1986: or can i just rename it
Oct 6, 2015 8:16 PM - Mike Kelly: what's it look like in notepad
    Oct 6, 2015 8:17 PM - jbigler1986: ooks like gcode
    Oct 6, 2015 8:17 PM - NFOsec: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xit3HHE8iWQ - http://hans-w.com/
Oct 6, 2015 8:18 PM - danzca6: MK, that quick release seems to work out nice and is far better than dealing with the two screws/bolts holding the hot end into the x carriage
    Oct 6, 2015 8:18 PM - danzca6: sent you a pic
    Oct 6, 2015 8:19 PM - Mike Kelly: yup
Oct 6, 2015 8:19 PM - Mike Kelly: reading it now
Oct 6, 2015 8:19 PM - Mike Kelly: i don't think the wiring will be much of a concern
Oct 6, 2015 8:21 PM - danzca6: what about having the part cooling fan on same side as the thermistor
Oct 6, 2015 8:21 PM - Mike Kelly: got any kapton tape?
Oct 6, 2015 8:21 PM - danzca6: nope, but can have in a couple days from amazon I'm sure
Oct 6, 2015 8:22 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah i have mine pointed towards a fan and i don't have issues but i also wrapped mine in kapton
Oct 6, 2015 8:22 PM - danzca6: real happy to see the gap under the IR with my little level off the hot end
    Oct 6, 2015 8:23 PM - danzca6: ok, I will give that a try
Oct 6, 2015 8:23 PM - danzca6: too close to want to give up tonight, but want it to be right
Oct 6, 2015 8:24 PM - danzca6: really see the beauty in bowden now that the extruder motor is off the carriage
Oct 6, 2015 8:24 PM - Mike Kelly: yup it's nice and clean
Oct 6, 2015 8:29 PM - jbigler1986: need to figure out what the steps are for this
    Oct 6, 2015 8:31 PM - jbigler1986: MK. any ideas?
Oct 6, 2015 8:32 PM - Mike Kelly: uh hmm
Oct 6, 2015 8:32 PM - Mike Kelly: measure the thread pitch
    Oct 6, 2015 8:32 PM - jbigler1986: https://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php?topic=24497.0
    Oct 6, 2015 8:32 PM - jbigler1986: his are 320
Oct 6, 2015 8:33 PM - danzca6: lol...just noticed a little set screw on the hot end that allowed me to adjust the hot end wires to angle better...such a newb with taking all this apart
Oct 6, 2015 8:34 PM - Mike Kelly: seems reasonable

    Oct 6, 2015 9:48 PM - Mattchu: evening all
Oct 6, 2015 9:51 PM - Mattchu: MK, you find the stone beer?
    Oct 6, 2015 11:52 PM - janot928: hey
Oct 7, 2015 4:44 AM - daniel871: Well, it was nice knowing you guys. [IMG] :p
    Oct 7, 2015 4:45 AM - jbigler1986: morning
Oct 7, 2015 4:47 AM - Bill Monroe: dan, jb
    Oct 7, 2015 4:47 AM - daniel871: Bill.
Oct 7, 2015 4:50 AM - jbigler1986: CNC is up and running. Now just need to figure out how to use cam software
Oct 7, 2015 4:50 AM - Bill Monroe: which one you using?
Oct 7, 2015 4:52 AM - jbigler1986: i tried estlcam. I just drew i simple square with a 4mm hole in the center. for some reason it will only do the hole and ignores the outside toolpath. Even though the preview shows both toothpaths
Oct 7, 2015 4:52 AM - jbigler1986: So probably going to try a different cam software
Oct 7, 2015 4:52 AM - daniel871: Well, I left a CES print running last night after somewhat keeping an eye on it for two hours before going to bed and somewhere around 70% through the print the drive gear stripped out on the filament.
Oct 7, 2015 4:53 AM - daniel871: Print was at 98% when I checked on it before heading to work as far as the printer was concerned, but nothing was actually coming out of the nozzle.
Oct 7, 2015 4:54 AM - jbigler1986: the wonderful world of bowden. Happens far to often
Oct 7, 2015 4:54 AM - Bill Monroe: so you went with arduino controller?
Oct 7, 2015 4:55 AM - jbigler1986: i needed to rewire the robo. So i said why not and just used the ramps with 8825 drivers until I get my uno and cnc shield. It works great as far as the machine movements
Oct 7, 2015 4:56 AM - jbigler1986: this is a whole new ball game for me though
Oct 7, 2015 4:57 AM - Bill Monroe: easy to move steppers.. the software is the big deal here
    Oct 7, 2015 4:57 AM - jbigler1986: yeah cam I am a total noob on
Oct 7, 2015 4:58 AM - Bill Monroe: dont feel alone
Oct 7, 2015 5:00 AM - jbigler1986: trying to figure zeroing it, start plane and stuff. It kept trying to cut down like 5mm while moving to cut the center circle out. So lots of stuff to learn
Oct 7, 2015 5:00 AM - daniel871: I'm trying to figure out if my screw tensioners are too tight or too loose on the drive gear now.
Oct 7, 2015 5:01 AM - daniel871: Like, if they're too tight and the filament has a thick section will it jam/strip?
Oct 7, 2015 5:04 AM - Bill Monroe: i dont use arduino for CNC.. too limited
Oct 7, 2015 5:05 AM - daniel871: I would think the Smoothieboard would be the minimum for that to work well.
Oct 7, 2015 5:05 AM - jbigler1986: it will do the job for me. I'm also not running jet engines on my axis. :p
Oct 7, 2015 5:05 AM - Bill Monroe: i hear its ok, no personal expereince with it myself
Oct 7, 2015 5:05 AM - daniel871: (since it was designed with that in mind)
Oct 7, 2015 5:09 AM - daniel871: I had similar filament strip-out issues with the Wade setup that came on the Robo, JB.
Oct 7, 2015 5:10 AM - daniel871: But the bolt that came with mine had very shallow "teeth" machined in it so it was easy to strip/fill up with filament.
Oct 7, 2015 5:10 AM - Bill Monroe: there's a variety of things that can cause the hobb to grind.
Oct 7, 2015 5:11 AM - Bill Monroe: im using the stock setup though, months of printing robbie parts - no problems..
Oct 7, 2015 5:13 AM - daniel871: A lot of it may have to do with the quality of the particular hobb. Mine didn't have consistent groove depths all the way around the diameter so I'm thinking the shallowest grooves would eventually fill with filament, then it would slip, then it would fail in that setup.
Oct 7, 2015 5:16 AM - daniel871: And for the current issues, I think I've got a batch of bad filament spools from JustPLA.
Oct 7, 2015 5:17 AM - JeffTheMess: good morning robonauts
Oct 7, 2015 5:17 AM - daniel871: One more thing to try would be to crank the speed up like I did for the one CES print I do have finished where I was putzing around with the feed override on the LCD.
Oct 7, 2015 5:17 AM - daniel871: Cranked it up to 280% before deciding that was pushing things hard enough and just seeing if it would run without messing up.
    Oct 7, 2015 5:18 AM - Bill Monroe: Jeff
Oct 7, 2015 5:19 AM - daniel871: Seemed to run smoother at that speed, but it didn't like doing the first layer operations in later print attempts at that speed.
Oct 7, 2015 5:20 AM - daniel871: Is there a way to set different speeds in S3D for the first 5 or 6 layers instead of just the 1st layer?
    Oct 7, 2015 5:20 AM - Bill Monroe: yes
Oct 7, 2015 5:20 AM - daniel871: Like a sort of "print a good 1.5mm thick base before ramping up to full speed" sort of thing.
Oct 7, 2015 5:21 AM - Bill Monroe: use muliple processes
    Oct 7, 2015 5:21 AM - Bill Monroe: multiple
    Oct 7, 2015 5:23 AM - daniel871: Did some googling and found this article on S3D: https://www.simplify3d.com/support/tutorials/different-settings-for-different-regions-of-a-model/
Oct 7, 2015 5:23 AM - daniel871: Looks like the same thing you're talking about Bill.
Oct 7, 2015 5:25 AM - Bill Monroe: typically, I use at least 2, especially on the robbie parts
Oct 7, 2015 5:25 AM - Bill Monroe: 6% fill till 5mm from the top, then 25% with 4 solid top layers
    Oct 7, 2015 5:26 AM - daniel871: Hm.
    Oct 7, 2015 5:27 AM - janot928: anyone here with a dual extrusion setup?
    Oct 7, 2015 5:27 AM - Bill Monroe: yup
Oct 7, 2015 5:28 AM - JeffTheMess: anybody ever tried turn a one full rotation and hour?
    Oct 7, 2015 5:28 AM - JeffTheMess: motor^
Oct 7, 2015 5:28 AM - Bill Monroe: but not on a robo
    Oct 7, 2015 5:29 AM - janot928: and what slicer do you use: s3d?
    Oct 7, 2015 5:29 AM - Bill Monroe: yup
Oct 7, 2015 5:29 AM - Bill Monroe: do what Jeff? 1/60 rpm?
Oct 7, 2015 5:30 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah, one full revolution in one hour
    Oct 7, 2015 5:30 AM - janot928: i bought avaeything for a chimera setup ... now the whait begin :p
    Oct 7, 2015 5:30 AM - Bill Monroe: making a clock? :)
    Oct 7, 2015 5:31 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah :)
Oct 7, 2015 5:32 AM - Bill Monroe: california banned drones over private property.. house holding hearings... the clamp-down begins :)
Oct 7, 2015 5:33 AM - JeffTheMess: shit why the drones not the drones
Oct 7, 2015 5:33 AM - Bill Monroe: jeff.. you'll need to set one to run at a resoution that's a multiple of 60
Oct 7, 2015 5:33 AM - daniel871: Back to making RC airplanes that look like biplanes and RC helicopters.
Oct 7, 2015 5:34 AM - daniel871: That actually look like RC helicopters.
Oct 7, 2015 5:35 AM - Bill Monroe: "drones" arent limited to quad config.. remotely piloted vehicles
Oct 7, 2015 5:35 AM - Bill Monroe: the ca law applies to all RC
    Oct 7, 2015 5:36 AM - JeffTheMess: still sucks
Oct 7, 2015 5:36 AM - Bill Monroe: today NTSB and Airline pilot's assoc testify
Oct 7, 2015 5:36 AM - Bill Monroe: AMA is on tghe docket
Oct 7, 2015 5:37 AM - Bill Monroe: you put the FAA, AOPA, and EAA together, you get a leviathan bigger than the NRA
Oct 7, 2015 5:37 AM - Bill Monroe: my bet is the AMA rules that have been in place since the 50s will become federal regulations
Oct 7, 2015 5:38 AM - JeffTheMess: still won't stop people from doing it. (unless your close to bill with a scrambler)
Oct 7, 2015 5:39 AM - Bill Monroe: my gadget isnt a scrambler... per se.. it emits a nice clean signal
Oct 7, 2015 5:40 AM - Bill Monroe: I cant help it if consumer-grade recievers cant hang :)
    Oct 7, 2015 5:41 AM - JeffTheMess: lol
Oct 7, 2015 5:42 AM - Bill Monroe: and so begins the end of maker-nerds littering the sky
    Oct 7, 2015 5:43 AM - JeffTheMess: highly unlikely
    Oct 7, 2015 5:45 AM - Bill Monroe: <the sky being airspace in excess of 400' agl>
Oct 7, 2015 5:58 AM - JeffTheMess: well that happened....
Oct 7, 2015 6:02 AM - NFOsec: bill: this whole drone thing is going to pull Amazon's commercial delivery service.
Oct 7, 2015 6:03 AM - NFOsec: I think designated airspace and height restrictions are an easy allownace, but it's always the idiots that don't follow suit with regulations, etc.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:03 AM - JeffTheMess: ^^^^^
    Oct 7, 2015 6:03 AM - JeffTheMess: agreed
Oct 7, 2015 6:03 AM - NFOsec: for example, my DJI Phantom 3 Pro has software updates in the firmware that will cause the drone to auto-land if it breaches the perimeter of a category A or B airport.
Oct 7, 2015 6:04 AM - NFOsec: it also has specific GPS software updates (assuming that hasn't been disabled, altered, or is functioning) to prohibit exceeding the height restrictions.
Oct 7, 2015 6:04 AM - JeffTheMess: that I don't agree with, the user should be in control fully
Oct 7, 2015 6:05 AM - NFOsec: One guy I knew from working together 20 years ago posted a few videos online of his DJI 2 drone. going well over 400, not only that, you can see the airport visibly in his video.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:05 AM - NFOsec: I'm not happy about that.
Oct 7, 2015 6:06 AM - JeffTheMess: I don't know why take the risk of killing the hobby you like
Oct 7, 2015 6:06 AM - NFOsec: well, I don't agree entirely Jeff -- if youhave administrative controls (policies, regulations, etc.) yet people don't follow them, it's imperative that technical controls are in place to make it happen.
Oct 7, 2015 6:07 AM - NFOsec: well, the risk of killing 177 passengers of Flight 321, the risk of crashing a private jet, a small Cesna/Piper, etc. is a greater likelihood than people who obey the law.
Oct 7, 2015 6:07 AM - NFOsec: society has proven themselves to be ignorant and will breach the law when they don't think they'll get caught.
Oct 7, 2015 6:08 AM - JeffTheMess: So DJI will take full responsibility if their quad does malfunction (not due to user error or alteration), if it somehow breaks the law?
    Oct 7, 2015 6:08 AM - Bill Monroe: back
Oct 7, 2015 6:08 AM - NFOsec: I'd say license the drones just like aircraft, have a minimum competency requirement to fly in specific areas, set a no-comptency flight area for the newbies that may crash and burn and quit their hobby.

Oct 7, 2015 6:08 AM - Bill Monroe: I dont think Amazons idea had any future, even without safety bans
    Oct 7, 2015 6:09 AM - jbigler1986: I don't see their delivery service happening. To many variables
Oct 7, 2015 6:09 AM - NFOsec: well, I agree Bill, but they may be able to pull local delivery off to a degree. reliance on simple battery operated devices that could get stripped out of the sky by basic wind shear patterns and the likes to me is a joke for package delivery.
Oct 7, 2015 6:10 AM - NFOsec: jb: they've been conditionally approved for certain situations, but yeah, widespread, not really.
Oct 7, 2015 6:10 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, loved the creative thinking though
Oct 7, 2015 6:10 AM - JeffTheMess: (hey an amazon quad, let me "take it out" and keep the package)
    Oct 7, 2015 6:10 AM - NFOsec: me oto.
Oct 7, 2015 6:11 AM - NFOsec: me too. I actually posted a story on the security related concerns of these things in commercial endeavors such as the one Amazon pursued.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:11 AM - NFOsec: that's my area of expertise.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:11 AM - jbigler1986: I like their thinking though
Oct 7, 2015 6:11 AM - NFOsec: soon, I'll be able to add Robo3D to the picture.
Oct 7, 2015 6:11 AM - jbigler1986: They need to fix their employee situation though
Oct 7, 2015 6:12 AM - NFOsec: jb: perhaps, but if you looked at any movie in the last 20 years that included some form of this type of transportation, or even the Jetsons cartoon years ago it's clear where they got the idea.
Oct 7, 2015 6:12 AM - jbigler1986: looking like i will be learning mastercam tonight
    Oct 7, 2015 6:13 AM - Bill Monroe: that's a big bite jb...
Oct 7, 2015 6:13 AM - NFOsec: yeah, no kidding. one of my old bosses from the consulting days went to them to head up their recruiting and employee development function. He left out of disgust after 2 years.
Oct 7, 2015 6:13 AM - NFOsec: Maybe, if Amazon followed the Walmart method? LOL.
Oct 7, 2015 6:13 AM - JeffTheMess: no one should follow walmarts methods
Oct 7, 2015 6:14 AM - NFOsec: I'm waiting for a merger. Wamazon or AmazonMart
    Oct 7, 2015 6:14 AM - jbigler1986: it is a big bite yes.
Oct 7, 2015 6:14 AM - Bill Monroe: I use camworks for large projects.. lazycam for simple stuff
    Oct 7, 2015 6:14 AM - jbigler1986: unless I see something else before then
Oct 7, 2015 6:16 AM - Bill Monroe: gads, I keep forgetting this new laptop has touchscreen :)
Oct 7, 2015 6:16 AM - jbigler1986: drawings aren't the problem. Creating the toolpaths is where I am dumb at
Oct 7, 2015 6:16 AM - JeffTheMess: the future bill, the future
Oct 7, 2015 6:17 AM - Bill Monroe: bobcam is popular for guys rising out of the maker world
Oct 7, 2015 6:17 AM - Bill Monroe: heh ya. i didnt even know this thing had it until i got it home
Oct 7, 2015 6:20 AM - Bill Monroe: jb, unless you're a glutton for punishment (which you have a reputation for), you need a part solid and a cam post-processor
Oct 7, 2015 6:20 AM - Bill Monroe: but getting there is an arduous path
Oct 7, 2015 6:21 AM - Bill Monroe: there's apps like V-carve than can do stuff
Oct 7, 2015 6:21 AM - Bill Monroe: more for artsy project than making parts
Oct 7, 2015 6:22 AM - jbigler1986: I like to dive right into the deep end usually. Trying to avoid that this time around
Oct 7, 2015 6:23 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, this pool's deep end is extreme.. people make careers of it
Oct 7, 2015 6:24 AM - Bill Monroe: learn how to handwrite gcode to engrave an infinity symbol.. that's a good start
Oct 7, 2015 6:24 AM - jbigler1986: I just need to read more about setting up tool depths, start points, zero.......
    Oct 7, 2015 6:24 AM - JeffTheMess: sounds fun...writing gcode
    Oct 7, 2015 6:25 AM - Bill Monroe: there's life beyond G0
    Oct 7, 2015 6:26 AM - NFOsec: yeah, v-carve is fun.
Oct 7, 2015 6:26 AM - Bill Monroe: i use it for doors
Oct 7, 2015 6:26 AM - NFOsec: that's cool. I use it for everything but the kitchen sink.
Oct 7, 2015 6:26 AM - Bill Monroe: its the closest thing I know to a slicer for printing
    Oct 7, 2015 6:27 AM - NFOsec: Cut3D, Cut2D, V-Carve Pro, and short of Aspire.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:27 AM - NFOsec: true.
Oct 7, 2015 6:27 AM - NFOsec: but I think that might be out of jb's budget for the immedaite.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:27 AM - Bill Monroe: it's also material-wasteful and sloooooow
    Oct 7, 2015 6:29 AM - jbigler1986: budget? I like to use Russian trials
Oct 7, 2015 6:30 AM - jbigler1986: until it's viable to spend money knowing I will make money from it
Oct 7, 2015 6:40 AM - Bill Monroe: jb, have you looked at Mach3?
Oct 7, 2015 6:41 AM - jbigler1986: a tiny bit. Seems as its a pain in the ass to install it on anything newer than xp
    Oct 7, 2015 6:42 AM - daniel871: Yeah, Mach4 is out now.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:42 AM - Bill Monroe: mach4 is still unstable
    Oct 7, 2015 6:42 AM - Bill Monroe: i'm using mach3 on win7
    Oct 7, 2015 6:43 AM - jbigler1986: was it a pain?
Oct 7, 2015 6:43 AM - Bill Monroe: havnt had any issues
Oct 7, 2015 6:43 AM - daniel871: I think the issue with Mach3 isn't the operating system itself so much as the parallel port being on the PC.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:43 AM - jbigler1986: do you have 64bit?
    Oct 7, 2015 6:43 AM - Bill Monroe: i do
Oct 7, 2015 6:43 AM - Bill Monroe: ya, i dont use the parallel port
    Oct 7, 2015 6:43 AM - jbigler1986: oh yeah. I have no parallel either
    Oct 7, 2015 6:44 AM - daniel871: http://www.machsupport.com/shop/mach4-hobby/
Oct 7, 2015 6:44 AM - Bill Monroe: mach isnt easy as flashing an arduino, to be sure. but its serious stuff an the support is amazing
Oct 7, 2015 6:45 AM - Bill Monroe: mach4 will be the shit when they finish it
Oct 7, 2015 6:45 AM - jbigler1986: also will it work with an arduino
    Oct 7, 2015 6:45 AM - Bill Monroe: no
Oct 7, 2015 6:45 AM - Bill Monroe: you have to move up to big boy controls ;)
    Oct 7, 2015 6:45 AM - jbigler1986: never
Oct 7, 2015 6:45 AM - Bill Monroe: ok then.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:46 AM - jbigler1986: :)
Oct 7, 2015 6:46 AM - daniel871: Hey Bill, would the PDMX controllers be worth getting if someone was updating electronics on an old frame?
    Oct 7, 2015 6:46 AM - jbigler1986: gcode sender. :p
    Oct 7, 2015 6:47 AM - Bill Monroe:
Oct 7, 2015 6:48 AM - Bill Monroe: hang on, let me peek at it
    Oct 7, 2015 6:48 AM - daniel871: I like the web 1.0 look of their website. :p http://www.pmdx.com/PMDX-340
Oct 7, 2015 6:48 AM - daniel871: Also that control box for smaller hobby machines.
Oct 7, 2015 6:49 AM - Bill Monroe: ohya.. that's still a paralell port thing.. jus saves laying one out yourself.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:49 AM - Bill Monroe: hang on a sec..
Oct 7, 2015 6:50 AM - daniel871: They have this to change over to USB, but I don't know about that price tag. http://www.pmdx.com/PMDX-411
Oct 7, 2015 6:52 AM - Bill Monroe: if youre going to mach, best to get on their bosrd and see what others say about them
Oct 7, 2015 6:53 AM - Bill Monroe: I use Galil myself, but that's becuase I got a pile of them.. way too much $$ for the maker crowd
Oct 7, 2015 6:54 AM - Bill Monroe: also, many of the controllers are limited to steppers... i'm a servo kinda guy :)
    Oct 7, 2015 7:43 AM - Mike Kelly: morning
    Oct 7, 2015 7:44 AM - NFOsec: morning
    Oct 7, 2015 7:44 AM - NFOsec: I like my G540 (Gecko)
Oct 7, 2015 7:46 AM - Mike Glass: I wouldnt switch to gecko
Oct 7, 2015 7:46 AM - Mike Glass: or is that geico
    Oct 7, 2015 7:47 AM - NFOsec: I'm not switching.
Oct 7, 2015 7:49 AM - Mike Glass: Hey, never saw a picture of the rings.
Oct 7, 2015 8:03 AM - NFOsec: ah. because I never took the pictures.
Oct 7, 2015 8:03 AM - NFOsec: lazy ass today, yesterday, and the day before.
Oct 7, 2015 8:13 AM - Mike Glass: I upped my speed to 500 on bottles now.
    Oct 7, 2015 8:14 AM - jbigler1986: morning mk
    Oct 7, 2015 8:14 AM - jbigler1986: and mg
Oct 7, 2015 8:14 AM - Mike Kelly: sup jb
Oct 7, 2015 8:15 AM - jbigler1986: CNC works. Just need to figure out how to use software now
Oct 7, 2015 8:15 AM - jbigler1986: estlcam was being a hooker (probably my own fault)
    Oct 7, 2015 8:15 AM - Mike Kelly: sweet
Oct 7, 2015 8:15 AM - Mike Glass: yo yo
Oct 7, 2015 8:15 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm not looking forward to that part
Oct 7, 2015 8:16 AM - Mike Glass: haha cant believe JB beat you...
Oct 7, 2015 8:16 AM - jbigler1986: well it helped that mine was assembled already

Oct 7, 2015 8:16 AM - Mike Glass: but he did cheat.
    Oct 7, 2015 8:16 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah...
Oct 7, 2015 8:17 AM - jbigler1986: preview in estlcam showed 2 toolpaths but it would only do the middle hole
Oct 7, 2015 8:17 AM - Mike Glass: send me the file I could look at it.
Oct 7, 2015 8:18 AM - jbigler1986: it will have to be when i get home. could be because i was changing it from .cn to gcd. IDK
Oct 7, 2015 8:19 AM - jbigler1986: do you have to convert the .cn files to gcd to use it in repetier MG?
Oct 7, 2015 8:19 AM - Mike Glass: what software controller are you using?
Oct 7, 2015 8:20 AM - jbigler1986: i just loaded it with lcd. Also probably the issue
Oct 7, 2015 8:20 AM - Mike Glass: I use the ngc files in repetier
Oct 7, 2015 8:20 AM - jbigler1986: yeah ngc. not nc. My bad
Oct 7, 2015 8:21 AM - Mike Glass: you have to remove all the crap in the first part of the code
    Oct 7, 2015 8:25 AM - donhuevo: 'sup
    Oct 7, 2015 8:25 AM - Mike Glass: soup
Oct 7, 2015 8:26 AM - donhuevo: it is coming up on chili weather
Oct 7, 2015 8:26 AM - jbigler1986: yeah I saw a script that will convert it for marlin

Oct 7, 2015 8:27 AM - jbigler1986: it works for pycam. it may work for others as well
    Oct 7, 2015 8:27 AM - jbigler1986: hola don
Oct 7, 2015 8:28 AM - jbigler1986: yep. it will work with ngc files
    Oct 7, 2015 8:28 AM - donhuevo: hola jb
    Oct 7, 2015 8:28 AM - jbigler1986: i love this weather
Oct 7, 2015 8:29 AM - Mike Glass: my fav season
    Oct 7, 2015 8:29 AM - donhuevo: ^
Oct 7, 2015 8:33 AM - Mike Kelly: i like fall but springs my fav
Oct 7, 2015 8:34 AM - jbigler1986: thinking about installing grbl to the ramps
Oct 7, 2015 8:35 AM - jbigler1986: it uses TinyG as the post processor which lots of cam software you can add to it
Oct 7, 2015 8:36 AM - Mike Kelly: people are too good at rocketleague http://gfycat.com/WeightyGaseousBluebottlejellyfish
    Oct 7, 2015 8:37 AM - jbigler1986: have you played it yet?
    Oct 7, 2015 8:40 AM - Mike Kelly: yup
Oct 7, 2015 8:40 AM - Mike Kelly: i preordered the steam controller and that came with
    Oct 7, 2015 8:40 AM - jbigler1986: its addicting
    Oct 7, 2015 8:41 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah it's fun
Oct 7, 2015 8:41 AM - Mike Kelly: i started playing GTAV again
Oct 7, 2015 8:42 AM - jbigler1986: i keep starting it then playing like 2 missions and stopping
Oct 7, 2015 8:42 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i played for like 2 months in 2013 then didn't play again till recently'
Oct 7, 2015 8:42 AM - Mike Kelly: trying to beat it, but i'm only just over half way
Oct 7, 2015 8:46 AM - Mike Kelly: my DVR8825's show up tonight, hoping i have time/parts to finish the wiring
    Oct 7, 2015 8:47 AM - jbigler1986: i tossed those on last night
Oct 7, 2015 8:48 AM - jbigler1986: works great. there is a little noise from the steppers but it's not bad
Oct 7, 2015 8:49 AM - donhuevo: may need to back off on the amperage
Oct 7, 2015 8:49 AM - donhuevo: or voltage. sorry
    Oct 7, 2015 8:50 AM - jbigler1986: i knew what you meant
    Oct 7, 2015 8:50 AM - donhuevo: been a bad few days work-wise. my mind's been blown
    Oct 7, 2015 8:59 AM - jbigler1986: sorry to hear that
    Oct 7, 2015 9:01 AM - jbigler1986: MG you here
    Oct 7, 2015 9:01 AM - Mattchu: morning all
    Oct 7, 2015 9:02 AM - jbigler1986: morning
Oct 7, 2015 9:05 AM - Mattchu: can't wait for my controller to arrive mike.
Oct 7, 2015 9:05 AM - Mattchu: you find your beer, MK?
Oct 7, 2015 9:06 AM - jbigler1986: what are you working on Matt?
Oct 7, 2015 9:06 AM - Mattchu: oh, I meant steam controller, JB lol
Oct 7, 2015 9:06 AM - Mattchu: right now I'm working on waking up...I'm waiting on my enclosure for my ROBO to be finished right now, JB.
    Oct 7, 2015 9:07 AM - Mattchu: how's the CNC mill going?
Oct 7, 2015 9:08 AM - jbigler1986: cnc is running. Software is the issue now.
    Oct 7, 2015 9:09 AM - Mattchu: CAM software I presume?
Oct 7, 2015 9:09 AM - Mattchu: I think the cheapest, easiest I know of is Millwrite
Oct 7, 2015 9:09 AM - jbigler1986: not that easy to get cam to make gcode for marlin. So looking at alternative firmwares or finding a marlin post processor for cam software
Oct 7, 2015 9:10 AM - Mattchu: that shit will make code for a prototrak
    Oct 7, 2015 9:11 AM - jbigler1986: hmmm
Oct 7, 2015 9:11 AM - Mattchu: pardon my language
Oct 7, 2015 9:11 AM - Mattchu: all you want is gcode. what are you using to run it?
Oct 7, 2015 9:12 AM - Mike Glass: not sure why you are making this harder then it is JB. super easy with estlcam and repetier
Oct 7, 2015 9:12 AM - jbigler1986: going to use repetier host or gcode sender
Oct 7, 2015 9:12 AM - jbigler1986: what all needs changed to the code from estlcam
Oct 7, 2015 9:13 AM - Mattchu: then I'd say use MG's suggestion then. That or drop the 200 on MACH3 and the 400 on MW. :p
Oct 7, 2015 9:14 AM - Mattchu: and good morning MG, was just thinking about you.
Oct 7, 2015 9:14 AM - jbigler1986: there are russian version of those available Matt
Oct 7, 2015 9:16 AM - jbigler1986: but yeah. estlcam seemed good. It probably would have worked if I new I needed to edit the gcode
    Oct 7, 2015 9:16 AM - jbigler1986: trial and error
Oct 7, 2015 9:16 AM - Mattchu: no idea JB. honestly MACH3 came with my old machine, and Millwrite we have at work if I don't want to fire up proE, and is the least fancy/easiest to use pay software I've encountered, haven't tried the free stuff.
Oct 7, 2015 9:17 AM - Mattchu: do you turn the spindle on at the machine or seperately jb?
    Oct 7, 2015 9:17 AM - jbigler1986: seperately
Oct 7, 2015 9:17 AM - Mattchu: okay, then that eliminates like, 4 codes you have to worry about
Oct 7, 2015 9:17 AM - Mike Glass: in a webinar sorry matt, how are you
Oct 7, 2015 9:18 AM - Mattchu: pretty good MG. It can wait, I've got questions on your laser.
Oct 7, 2015 9:18 AM - Mattchu: I've seen the code esticam posts out from MG's machine, it's SUPER basic.
Oct 7, 2015 9:19 AM - Mike Glass: ok almost done here.
Oct 7, 2015 9:19 AM - Mattchu: but still smart (it uses arc movements with actual I&J values)
Oct 7, 2015 9:20 AM - jbigler1986: so what needs changed if you wouldn't mind
Oct 7, 2015 9:21 AM - Mattchu: I dunno if the marlin can read arc movements...I mean, it seems silly itwouldn't...G0, G1, G2, and G3 are the 4 most basic Gcodes...they are universal across all machines.
Oct 7, 2015 9:22 AM - Mattchu: you're familiar with the G1 already...it's mostly what we see (at our level) come out of the softwares for 3D printers; it's a straight line.
    Oct 7, 2015 9:23 AM - Mattchu: G2 = arc, clockwise G3 = arc, counter clockwise
    Oct 7, 2015 9:23 AM - jbigler1986: yeah
Oct 7, 2015 9:23 AM - Mattchu: G0 is rapid position (I don't call it a rapid line movement; I'll explain why later).
Oct 7, 2015 9:26 AM - Mattchu: the only thing your mill might call out for might be an H (Height Offset) or D(tool Diameter Offset). but I believe the cam software MG suggest handles the D aspect of it automatically from what i saw.
    Oct 7, 2015 9:26 AM - Mattchu: and H shouldn't be a problem either, since you've only a single tool, H is not needed.
Oct 7, 2015 9:27 AM - Mattchu: otherwise yeah, I can't forsee anything unless the machine has some wacky code lines. Again, you'd have to post it out and see, but I believe it'd work.
Oct 7, 2015 9:28 AM - jbigler1986: so the gcode file converted should do everything needed
Oct 7, 2015 9:28 AM - Mattchu: it was pretty basic...I liked it.
Oct 7, 2015 9:28 AM - Mike Kelly: matt ther liquor store just closed when we got out of the movie
    Oct 7, 2015 9:28 AM - Mattchu: dang it, MK :p
Oct 7, 2015 9:28 AM - jbigler1986: F command fix, G0 converter, Remove Empty Lines, Add G28 command at the beginning, Add extra rising at the end
    Oct 7, 2015 9:28 AM - donhuevo: https://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/news/fullstory_155003.html
Oct 7, 2015 9:29 AM - Mike Kelly: yeah i think my wife will be nearby tonight, she'll check
Oct 7, 2015 9:29 AM - Mattchu: you probably don't even need the G28 line.
    Oct 7, 2015 9:29 AM - Mattchu: raaad, don!
    Oct 7, 2015 9:30 AM - Mattchu: that's a common'ish code. But one usually tied to an H value.
    Oct 7, 2015 9:31 AM - Mattchu: it's a home command...but, you really don't need it.
Oct 7, 2015 9:31 AM - jbigler1986: sweet. so it will do the work for me

Oct 7, 2015 9:31 AM - Mattchu: from what MG told me/showed me, it does a good job.
Oct 7, 2015 9:32 AM - Mattchu: just remember light cuts, slow passes, have your safety glasses :p
Oct 7, 2015 9:32 AM - Mattchu: and avoid aluminum (for now).
    Oct 7, 2015 9:33 AM - jbigler1986: yeah just wood for now
Oct 7, 2015 9:33 AM - Mattchu: also make sure to have a piece of material under your wood
Oct 7, 2015 9:33 AM - Mattchu: you don't want to muck up your bed.
    Oct 7, 2015 9:34 AM - Mattchu: or else I'll cry :(
    Oct 7, 2015 9:34 AM - Mattchu: sweet MK...hope she finds it!
Oct 7, 2015 9:34 AM - jbigler1986: i cut a piece that is almost the whole bed size already. so good on that part
    Oct 7, 2015 9:34 AM - Mattchu: perfect!
Oct 7, 2015 9:35 AM - Mattchu: a common practice is to clamp a piece across the bed with tapped holes in it already
Oct 7, 2015 9:35 AM - Mattchu: so you can place clamps wherever, and you don't care if you leave LIGHT tool marks in it from the cutter.
Oct 7, 2015 9:35 AM - Mattchu: admittedly, it's wood, so tapped holes won't last terribly long...
Oct 7, 2015 9:36 AM - Mattchu: fixturing is another topic entirely, we could spend a day easily discussing it >_<
Oct 7, 2015 9:37 AM - jbigler1986: yeah i just put a screw in the board i was cutting to hold it to the one on the bed. just going to cut off that part when done
Oct 7, 2015 9:39 AM - Mike Kelly: god tim elmore is such a prick
    Oct 7, 2015 9:39 AM - Mike Kelly: i can't stand that guy
    Oct 7, 2015 9:39 AM - jbigler1986: idk who that is
Oct 7, 2015 9:40 AM - Mike Kelly: filastruder guy
    Oct 7, 2015 9:41 AM - jbigler1986: ordering something?
Oct 7, 2015 9:41 AM - Mike Kelly: no, he's arguing that those stud thermistors are dangerous because of the PTFE tubing
    Oct 7, 2015 9:41 AM - jbigler1986: soooooooo dangerous
Oct 7, 2015 9:41 AM - Mike Kelly: you use those right?
    Oct 7, 2015 9:41 AM - jbigler1986: yeah
Oct 7, 2015 9:42 AM - Mike Glass: man what a cluster that was.
Oct 7, 2015 9:42 AM - Mike Glass: Ok Matt im back
Oct 7, 2015 9:43 AM - Mike Kelly: next time you heat up your extruder would you feel how hot the leads are for the thermistor
Oct 7, 2015 9:43 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm pretty sure he's full of shit but i don't have one to back it up
Oct 7, 2015 9:43 AM - jbigler1986: i had one that i wired wrong and temps were probably above 300c. the epoxy simply melted and it came apart. them printer shut off due to temp error
    Oct 7, 2015 9:43 AM - jbigler1986: sure
    Oct 7, 2015 9:43 AM - Mattchu: wb MG.
Oct 7, 2015 9:44 AM - Mike Glass: I hate dealing with vendors.
    Oct 7, 2015 9:44 AM - donhuevo: oh mg
    Oct 7, 2015 9:44 AM - donhuevo: hello
Oct 7, 2015 9:44 AM - Mattchu: on your laser, did you have to get anything extra? neutral gas canister, shop vac, etc?
Oct 7, 2015 9:44 AM - Mike Glass: $34K and they are having issues giving it to me for $30K. losers
Oct 7, 2015 9:44 AM - Mike Glass: hey don
Oct 7, 2015 9:45 AM - Mike Glass: I had to buy a new house to fit it in.
Oct 7, 2015 9:45 AM - Mike Glass: and my wife kick me out so I had no choice.
    Oct 7, 2015 9:46 AM - jbigler1986: ha
    Oct 7, 2015 9:46 AM - Mattchu: lol
Oct 7, 2015 9:46 AM - Mattchu: was that before you engraved her wine glasses, or after?
Oct 7, 2015 9:46 AM - Mike Glass: j/k. other then the honeycomb table and a water temp gauge, thats all you should need. if you want
Oct 7, 2015 9:47 AM - Mattchu: so it's just pure air instead of the table area?
Oct 7, 2015 9:47 AM - Mattchu: feels like CO2 is a bit of a misnomer...I figured that's what it used to clear the cut area.
Oct 7, 2015 9:48 AM - Mattchu: so no CO2 tanks, argon, etc?
Oct 7, 2015 9:48 AM - Mike Glass: nope thats is referring to the laser gas used.
Oct 7, 2015 9:48 AM - Mike Glass: in the tube
    Oct 7, 2015 9:48 AM - Mattchu: got it
Oct 7, 2015 9:48 AM - Mattchu: how easy would it be to replace your tube if it broke?
Oct 7, 2015 9:49 AM - Mike Glass: It uses an aquarium style pump for the air
Oct 7, 2015 9:49 AM - Mike Glass: simple to replace or upgrade.
Oct 7, 2015 9:49 AM - Mattchu: found the parts already?
Oct 7, 2015 9:50 AM - Mike Glass: yea, you can get the 60W for around $3-400
Oct 7, 2015 9:52 AM - Mattchu: so it might behoove me to get that to start with then.
Oct 7, 2015 9:53 AM - PeterkSharma: what does the extrusion multiplier do in s3d
Oct 7, 2015 9:53 AM - Mike Glass: multiplies the extrusion
Oct 7, 2015 9:54 AM - Mattchu: increases the amount of material it pushes through, MG?
    Oct 7, 2015 9:54 AM - Mike Glass: yes that is what I meant..lol
Oct 7, 2015 9:54 AM - PeterkSharma: what is default?
    Oct 7, 2015 9:54 AM - Mike Glass: 100
    Oct 7, 2015 9:54 AM - Mattchu: 1
    Oct 7, 2015 9:54 AM - PeterkSharma: perfect
    Oct 7, 2015 9:54 AM - PeterkSharma: thanks
Oct 7, 2015 9:55 AM - Mike Glass: maybe its cura that is 100
    Oct 7, 2015 9:55 AM - Mattchu: 100 percent, or a factor of 1.
Oct 7, 2015 9:55 AM - Mike Glass: they are all different
    Oct 7, 2015 9:56 AM - Mattchu: I'm seeing mine as 1.05...and that's only because I know I set it up a little higher...
Oct 7, 2015 9:56 AM - Mike Glass: only time i mess with that is if Im doing abs or xt crap
    Oct 7, 2015 9:57 AM - Mattchu: hehehe, which I am MG :)
Oct 7, 2015 9:57 AM - Mattchu: ABS and the PEI table.
Oct 7, 2015 9:57 AM - Mattchu: when you cut glass, how long did it take? did it makea mess?
Oct 7, 2015 9:59 AM - PeterkSharma: when ive cut glass sheets its been clean cuts
Oct 7, 2015 9:59 AM - jbigler1986: i put mine at 100 once when it was supposed to bet at 1
Oct 7, 2015 9:59 AM - Mattchu: sorry, i meant engraving it, MG
    Oct 7, 2015 9:59 AM - jbigler1986: talk about gregs wade hauling
    Oct 7, 2015 10:00 AM - Mattchu: lol, make a mess JB?
Oct 7, 2015 10:00 AM - jbigler1986: only took like one second before the filament stripped
Oct 7, 2015 10:00 AM - Mike Glass: I go lower with abs and xt not higher..lol
    Oct 7, 2015 10:00 AM - jbigler1986: it just put down a big blob
    Oct 7, 2015 10:00 AM - Mattchu: so in S3D, yes, put a 1 value hahaha.
Oct 7, 2015 10:00 AM - jbigler1986: took me like 2 hours of troubleshooting to figure out what i did
Oct 7, 2015 10:01 AM - Mike Glass: you dont cut glass, you only engrave it.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:01 AM - Mattchu: that's what I meant, sorry MG >_<
Oct 7, 2015 10:01 AM - NFOsec: well, that's sort of partially true.
Oct 7, 2015 10:01 AM - Mike Glass: I upped my speeds to 500 now, so only about 5 min a bottle.
Oct 7, 2015 10:01 AM - NFOsec: you can cut if you throw 100% power across 2-3 passes, but you risk cracking it due to heat, and shards, shards, shards.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:01 AM - NFOsec: 500 with what power?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:02 AM - Mike Glass: 25
    Oct 7, 2015 10:02 AM - NFOsec: not bad.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:02 AM - NFOsec: 50/10 doesn't really extrapolate to 500/25, but it isn't bad.
Oct 7, 2015 10:02 AM - NFOsec: btw, were your surfaces abbraisive?
Oct 7, 2015 10:02 AM - Mike Glass: I went up to 700, but not alot of change once you hit over 550
    Oct 7, 2015 10:02 AM - NFOsec: clean?
Oct 7, 2015 10:02 AM - NFOsec: did you have to sand, wire-brush, or lick?
Oct 7, 2015 10:02 AM - Mike Glass: very clean
Oct 7, 2015 10:03 AM - NFOsec: mask over the engraved area?
Oct 7, 2015 10:03 AM - Mike Glass: nope, nope, nope
Oct 7, 2015 10:03 AM - Mike Glass: I find that brown beer bottle glass does not work well
Oct 7, 2015 10:03 AM - NFOsec: I found some variances because in the past I was using a VERY specific type of glass for the same type of work, changed a few and found subtle differences. KEY to all things is make sure there is no lead or metal in your glass.

Oct 7, 2015 10:03 AM - Mike Glass: it just shards at any speed and heat
Oct 7, 2015 10:04 AM - Mattchu: how about blue, MG?
Oct 7, 2015 10:04 AM - NFOsec: brown beer bottles may have some form of metal?
Oct 7, 2015 10:04 AM - Mike Glass: green or clear has been working nice, haven't tried blue yet.
Oct 7, 2015 10:05 AM - NFOsec: look at the speed.
Oct 7, 2015 10:05 AM - Mike Glass: yea, the best so far is 500/13 for brown.
Oct 7, 2015 10:06 AM - Mattchu: I presume you put something over the vents before cutting glass to keep shards from falling into the ether?
Oct 7, 2015 10:06 AM - PeterkSharma: hey mg, how is that laser?
Oct 7, 2015 10:07 AM - NFOsec: so many say to use a wire brush after the work is done.
Oct 7, 2015 10:07 AM - NFOsec: you should want to be able to run your finger across it without fear of being cut.
Oct 7, 2015 10:08 AM - Mike Glass: the ether?
Oct 7, 2015 10:08 AM - NFOsec: best types of things are those beer mugs/glasses at the dollar stores.
Oct 7, 2015 10:08 AM - Mike Glass: Peter laser is so much fun.
Oct 7, 2015 10:10 AM - PeterkSharma: done any fun projeccts with it yet?
Oct 7, 2015 10:10 AM - NFOsec: Yeah MG, how IS the "laser"
Oct 7, 2015 10:10 AM - Mattchu: the abyss, MG
Oct 7, 2015 10:10 AM - Mattchu: into the dark depths of the inner workings?
Oct 7, 2015 10:10 AM - NFOsec: Peter: really, do you think these things can produce fun projects? you're damn right they can.
Oct 7, 2015 10:11 AM - NFOsec: a couple of failed laser engraved tattoos to boot.
Oct 7, 2015 10:11 AM - Mattchu: I'm making pipboys right now, Peter.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:11 AM - NFOsec: 1000 speed at 5% power, a dare.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:11 AM - NFOsec: ha.
Oct 7, 2015 10:11 AM - Mattchu: or the laser?
Oct 7, 2015 10:11 AM - Mike Glass: Hey my tattoo came out fine
Oct 7, 2015 10:11 AM - Mattchu: ooooh the laser
    Oct 7, 2015 10:11 AM - Mattchu: *grumbles* I wanna laser :(
Oct 7, 2015 10:12 AM - Mattchu: so anything else you need to do to it MG?
Oct 7, 2015 10:12 AM - Mattchu: set up okay? nothing smash the mirrors?
Oct 7, 2015 10:12 AM - NFOsec: no, you want a Robo3D so you cn print a laser that wobbles.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:13 AM - Mike Glass: lol
Oct 7, 2015 10:14 AM - Mattchu: heck ya! I've always wanted to put out an eye.
Oct 7, 2015 10:14 AM - Mike Glass: I had to adjust a few screws on one mirror, other than that, it was good to go.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:14 AM - jbigler1986: never
Oct 7, 2015 10:14 AM - Mattchu: if I was to get one, and it was FUBAR'd a bit...mind walking me through the set up, MG and NFO?
Oct 7, 2015 10:14 AM - Mike Glass: get a study kitchen table to put it on.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:15 AM - PeterkSharma: whats pipboys?
Oct 7, 2015 10:15 AM - jbigler1986: I'm sure they would. We all help each other here. It's pretty great actually
Oct 7, 2015 10:15 AM - Mike Glass: The three Pips?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:15 AM - jbigler1986: Pretty rare nowadays too
Oct 7, 2015 10:15 AM - PeterkSharma: wow..... my printer might actually finish a print without fucking up
    Oct 7, 2015 10:15 AM - jbigler1986: and you lose power
Oct 7, 2015 10:16 AM - Mike Glass: now you just jinxed it
Oct 7, 2015 10:17 AM - Mike Glass: Yea Matt always here to help, just leave your cc# in a PM..lol
Oct 7, 2015 10:17 AM - Mattchu: Pipboys = computer bracelet from Fallout game series.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:17 AM - Mattchu: lol MG.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:17 AM - jbigler1986: and he needs your SS# too
Oct 7, 2015 10:17 AM - Mattchu: *watches peters print, and just the print, spontaneously burst into flames.
Oct 7, 2015 10:18 AM - PeterkSharma: ive only been working on this shit for 2.5 months to get it to do a good print
Oct 7, 2015 10:18 AM - Mike Glass: hey you might beat JB..lol
    Oct 7, 2015 10:18 AM - PeterkSharma: 8 more min....
Oct 7, 2015 10:18 AM - PeterkSharma: I still have my cyclops and bondtechs i need to swap up
    Oct 7, 2015 10:18 AM - PeterkSharma: out
Oct 7, 2015 10:18 AM - PeterkSharma: but that not until the lab gets finished
Oct 7, 2015 10:19 AM - jbigler1986: yeah cnc is my focus at the moment
    Oct 7, 2015 10:19 AM - PeterkSharma: WTF NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
    Oct 7, 2015 10:19 AM - jbigler1986: did it fail
    Oct 7, 2015 10:19 AM - Mattchu: it pulled up, didn't it?
Oct 7, 2015 10:19 AM - Mike Glass: Next is laser for JB..lol
    Oct 7, 2015 10:19 AM - PeterkSharma: s3d kicked my extruder up to 230
    Oct 7, 2015 10:19 AM - PeterkSharma: for pla
Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - PeterkSharma: its stringing really bad and the layers ar elooking like shit
Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - Mattchu: it only does that for ABS
Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - Mattchu: you can override
Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - Mattchu: do it now
Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - Mattchu: now now now
    Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - Mattchu: CNC is easy JB :)
Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - jbigler1986: nah. cnc is as far as I am going for a while
Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - Mike Glass: what the hell are you printing at 230 for?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - Mattchu: well, lasre
Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - PeterkSharma: i wonder why it did that
Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - Mike Glass: Right JB, heard that one before.
Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - PeterkSharma: will it kick up the temp to bridge a print?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:20 AM - Mattchu: milling...you're gonna discovere the voodoo I do :p
Oct 7, 2015 10:21 AM - jbigler1986: I know. Once I get the cam figured out it will be way less of a headache than my printer
Oct 7, 2015 10:21 AM - Mike Glass: no it kick up a fan if anything
    Oct 7, 2015 10:21 AM - jbigler1986: unless you have another process
Oct 7, 2015 10:21 AM - Mattchu: hand code, JB
Oct 7, 2015 10:21 AM - PeterkSharma: well.... maybe another half a month and i can get a good print
Oct 7, 2015 10:22 AM - Mattchu: only need CAM to do super crazy stuff, like engraving.
Oct 7, 2015 10:22 AM - Mike Glass: free hand codes?
Oct 7, 2015 10:22 AM - Mattchu: I should sell the code books from my school to you guys
Oct 7, 2015 10:22 AM - Mattchu: they're like, insanely cheap, but so awesome
Oct 7, 2015 10:22 AM - Mattchu: best textbook I've ever purchased, and was like 20 bucks or something.
Oct 7, 2015 10:23 AM - Mike Glass: does it have pictures.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:23 AM - Mattchu: diagrams
Oct 7, 2015 10:23 AM - Mattchu: I could probably do a video or two
Oct 7, 2015 10:23 AM - Mike Glass: I rarely get anything from books, hands on is my gig.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:23 AM - jbigler1986: do it, now, now
Oct 7, 2015 10:24 AM - Mattchu: it also has a great trig primer
Oct 7, 2015 10:24 AM - Mattchu: it goes over the basic G codes and how they function (admittedly I think a handful of them are fadal or haas codes, but they're easy to spot)
Oct 7, 2015 10:25 AM - Mattchu: climb vs conventional
    Oct 7, 2015 10:25 AM - Mattchu: G40 commands
Oct 7, 2015 10:25 AM - Mattchu: ...wonder if the marlin has canned cycles.
Oct 7, 2015 10:26 AM - NFOsec: Actually, I even have ClickTeam's MM2F and a few other tools that I've been able to prototype or develop full applications in a VERY short time (instead of going the traditional track of VB, etc.) I did my own version of a GoPro controller because I didn't like the one Cam-do.com developed.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:26 AM - PeterkSharma: [IMG]
    Oct 7, 2015 10:26 AM - PeterkSharma: one failed....
    Oct 7, 2015 10:28 AM - Mattchu: sadness :(
    Oct 7, 2015 10:28 AM - NFOsec: sucks.
Oct 7, 2015 10:28 AM - Mattchu: I think I'll get one then, NFO and MG.
Oct 7, 2015 10:28 AM - NFOsec: that sucks filament.

Oct 7, 2015 10:28 AM - Mike Glass: that was an 8 hour print?
Oct 7, 2015 10:28 AM - NFOsec: get one what? an engraved bottle from MG's new website?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:29 AM - PeterkSharma: me? that was a 25 min print
Oct 7, 2015 10:29 AM - Mike Glass: why did it change temp?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:29 AM - Mattchu: no, a laser...
Oct 7, 2015 10:29 AM - PeterkSharma: not sure. i check s3d and there wasnt a second process
    Oct 7, 2015 10:30 AM - Mike Glass: "a Laser"
    Oct 7, 2015 10:30 AM - Mattchu: a LASER
    Oct 7, 2015 10:30 AM - NFOsec: actually it's a "laser"
    Oct 7, 2015 10:30 AM - Mattchu: better? lol it's an acronym :p
    Oct 7, 2015 10:30 AM - NFOsec: <dr. evil>Fire up the "laser"</dr. evil>
Oct 7, 2015 10:30 AM - NFOsec: or the man-eating sharks with laser headgear?
Oct 7, 2015 10:31 AM - NFOsec: what is that called? A Ron Pompeil product called "Slice and Bite"
    Oct 7, 2015 10:31 AM - Mattchu: http://www.ebay.com/itm/50W-Desktop...cc83312&pid=100005&rk=5&rkt=6&sd=301754502253
Oct 7, 2015 10:31 AM - Mattchu: has the up and down apparently.
Oct 7, 2015 10:31 AM - Mattchu: but no roller
    Oct 7, 2015 10:32 AM - PeterkSharma: [IMG]
Oct 7, 2015 10:32 AM - NFOsec: see the others below, the one in orange? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Upgraded-Ve...4838f6c&pid=100005&rk=3&rkt=6&sd=121587402604
Oct 7, 2015 10:32 AM - PeterkSharma: you can see where the temp just changed
Oct 7, 2015 10:32 AM - PeterkSharma: it looked perfect for the first 1/2 inch
Oct 7, 2015 10:32 AM - NFOsec: Jesus, that beard has to be shaven.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:32 AM - NFOsec: LOL.
Oct 7, 2015 10:33 AM - NFOsec: you know what, let's see the part file. I'm willing to bet it's corrupt somewhere.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:33 AM - Mattchu: weird Peter.
Oct 7, 2015 10:33 AM - Mattchu: did you accidentally create a line where it changed temp?
Oct 7, 2015 10:33 AM - NFOsec: I had that happen to me a few days ago and when I cleaned it up in Netfabb it was pristine.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:33 AM - PeterkSharma: nope
Oct 7, 2015 10:33 AM - PeterkSharma: im printing the same print again
Oct 7, 2015 10:33 AM - PeterkSharma: going to seee if it does it again
Oct 7, 2015 10:35 AM - Mike Glass: Matt I would stay away from that brand.
Oct 7, 2015 10:36 AM - Mike Glass: the orange ones are proven.
Oct 7, 2015 10:36 AM - NFOsec: I would stay away from all brands. :) "lasers" are dangerous.
Oct 7, 2015 10:36 AM - NFOsec: the don't belong in the hands of potential competition.
Oct 7, 2015 10:36 AM - Mattchu: the rex box ones, MG?
Oct 7, 2015 10:36 AM - Mike Glass: yes true
    Oct 7, 2015 10:37 AM - PeterkSharma: i almost got a 100w co2 laser
Oct 7, 2015 10:37 AM - Mike Glass: yes the cheapcnc ones
Oct 7, 2015 10:37 AM - PeterkSharma: i was on the fence about it
Oct 7, 2015 10:37 AM - PeterkSharma: saw it at a garage sale
    Oct 7, 2015 10:37 AM - jbigler1986: you need a 5000w laser or go home
Oct 7, 2015 10:37 AM - Mike Glass: we looked at 5Kw lasers yesterday, need one of those.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:37 AM - PeterkSharma: wow
Oct 7, 2015 10:37 AM - PeterkSharma: i have nothing to saw about that
    Oct 7, 2015 10:37 AM - NFOsec: Da Boss.
Oct 7, 2015 10:38 AM - PeterkSharma: if you got 2 and pointed them at each other and turned em on you could make electrons!
Oct 7, 2015 10:38 AM - NFOsec: I think the laser was single-handedly one of the fun things I've bought in the past few years.
Oct 7, 2015 10:39 AM - NFOsec: Peter: or make whoopie because yo'ull fry yourself.
Oct 7, 2015 10:39 AM - Mike Glass: The robo was fun back in the day.
Oct 7, 2015 10:39 AM - NFOsec: and the machine.
Oct 7, 2015 10:39 AM - NFOsec: it still is, just needs better application and maybe 5x the speed.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:39 AM - PeterkSharma:
Oct 7, 2015 10:39 AM - Mattchu: the ROBO is still awesome. Both combined are amazing
Oct 7, 2015 10:39 AM - NFOsec: I know how they can increase speed, it needs a staged filamenet heater and bigger steppers.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:39 AM - Mattchu: but that's because I'm wired strange :D
Oct 7, 2015 10:39 AM - Mike Glass: cnc/plasma will be the fun one
Oct 7, 2015 10:40 AM - Mattchu: those are so friggin messy, MG. lol.
Oct 7, 2015 10:40 AM - PeterkSharma: that link is for a 500 trillion watt laser
Oct 7, 2015 10:40 AM - Mike Glass: not the one im looking at
Oct 7, 2015 10:40 AM - Mattchu: but it's rad to watch it run
Oct 7, 2015 10:40 AM - Mattchu: even more rad to watch them run using software to offset the heat
Oct 7, 2015 10:40 AM - NFOsec: military application of "laser" is frying people from the sky with a super-small pin-hole into their brain, then doctors proclaiming the died from a stroke.
Oct 7, 2015 10:41 AM - NFOsec: that video was hilarious. You would think for the amount of money spent, they wouldn't simply hide a CRT behind a metal frame.
Oct 7, 2015 10:42 AM - PeterkSharma: i wonder if you could burn a hole in the moon with that
Oct 7, 2015 10:42 AM - NFOsec: I can't remember what the story was about the light traveling and the refraction/bending.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:42 AM - Mattchu: peter...are you chairface chippendale?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:42 AM - Mattchu:
Oct 7, 2015 10:44 AM - Mike Glass: where to buy some wood planks for "lasering"
    Oct 7, 2015 10:45 AM - Mattchu: dixieline?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:45 AM - Mattchu: :p
Oct 7, 2015 10:45 AM - NFOsec: what kind of "planks" for "laser" work?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:46 AM - Mike Glass: wood
    Oct 7, 2015 10:46 AM - Mike Glass: 1/8 would be fine
Oct 7, 2015 10:46 AM - NFOsec: what kind of "wood planks" for "laser" work? Like sliced log planks, wood flooring planks?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:46 AM - Mattchu: micheals?
Oct 7, 2015 10:47 AM - NFOsec: might as well go to your local hardieware store.
Oct 7, 2015 10:47 AM - Mattchu: or similar hobby shop that isn't overpriced? :p
    Oct 7, 2015 10:47 AM - daniel871: No such thing as a hobby shop that isn't overpriced.
Oct 7, 2015 10:47 AM - NFOsec: spend gobs of money on overprieced material that doesn't result in the product you want.
Oct 7, 2015 10:48 AM - NFOsec: daniel: not true. one going out of business or having been in business for 60+ years, they're usually a blast from the past on prioces.
Oct 7, 2015 10:48 AM - Mike Glass: yea we have nothing here really that has stuff like that, other than you reg box stores.
Oct 7, 2015 10:49 AM - Mike Glass: there is a hardwood place, but Im out of vaseline.
Oct 7, 2015 10:49 AM - NFOsec: what about asking your "source".
Oct 7, 2015 10:49 AM - daniel871: There was some event in Atlanta not long ago where businesses were offering a bunch of wood panels and doors and such to hobbyists in exchange for a tax write-off on the products they were giving away, it was pretty neat.
Oct 7, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Glass: alder and pine is all they have right now.
Oct 7, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Glass: I got some 3" slabs from him yesterday
Oct 7, 2015 10:50 AM - NFOsec: whiner. Alder is great.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:50 AM - Mattchu: oh!
Oct 7, 2015 10:50 AM - NFOsec: pine is what you do when you don't have alder where else to go.
Oct 7, 2015 10:50 AM - Mattchu: one more question for NFO and MG...and I'm sure I know the answer
Oct 7, 2015 10:50 AM - Mike Glass: Think it was alder, let me ask hime
Oct 7, 2015 10:50 AM - daniel871: Literal palette loads of solid oak/pine/etc. that would have been used in making cabinets that weren't going to be used because the finish wasn't just right or whatever.
Oct 7, 2015 10:51 AM - Mattchu: 50W laser isn't enough to cut carbon fiber, is it?
Oct 7, 2015 10:51 AM - NFOsec: Nice try, you asked that question before and were told the lame answer then.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:51 AM - danzca6: Has anyone seen this one yet? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1866188127/collideoscope-multi-filament-3d-print-head
Oct 7, 2015 10:51 AM - NFOsec: you want the truth? you can't handle the truth.
    Oct 7, 2015 10:51 AM - Mattchu: did I? I can't remember if I did >_<
    Oct 7, 2015 10:51 AM - daniel871: What's with all the variations on multi-filament heads lately?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:51 AM - danzca6: looks crazy
    Oct 7, 2015 10:52 AM - danzca6: everyone's trying to build a better mouse trap
Oct 7, 2015 10:52 AM - NFOsec: there are a few of those out there, not sure I'd go that route because if you use two truly different types of materials you're bound to f-up.

Oct 7, 2015 10:52 AM - Mike Glass: dang it was spruce that he has some of now. Alder he can get some trees from seattle area.
Oct 7, 2015 10:53 AM - Mattchu: that one is extra crazy: it's mounted on a CNC router
    Oct 7, 2015 10:53 AM - Mattchu: I like that.
Oct 7, 2015 10:55 AM - PeterkSharma: the second print was sucessful!
Oct 7, 2015 10:55 AM - Mike Glass: see it was bad karm
    Oct 7, 2015 10:56 AM - Mattchu: what's the thickest material you've cut, NFO?
    Oct 7, 2015 10:56 AM - PeterkSharma: aparently
    Oct 7, 2015 10:56 AM - PeterkSharma: s3d is a really nice slicer....
    Oct 7, 2015 10:58 AM - daniel871: Yeah.
Oct 7, 2015 10:59 AM - Mattchu: wait til you play with the raft/support material side of it peter
Oct 7, 2015 10:59 AM - NFOsec: Matt: with the laser? I've done 1/4" single pass, 1/2" 2-3 pass, 1" 5 pass, but the larger cuts are really harder to maintain edge integrity.
Oct 7, 2015 11:00 AM - NFOsec: 1/4" is very common thickness to work with for cutting.
Oct 7, 2015 11:00 AM - Mattchu: you do marble or stone?
Oct 7, 2015 11:00 AM - Mattchu: does it just etch it, or bite into it a little?
    Oct 7, 2015 11:00 AM - NFOsec: engraving marble/stone yes.
Oct 7, 2015 11:00 AM - NFOsec: marble can be bitten.
Oct 7, 2015 11:00 AM - NFOsec: proper types of marble that is.
Oct 7, 2015 11:00 AM - NFOsec: for example, lasering enough to do your own tombstone?
Oct 7, 2015 11:00 AM - Mike Glass: you can drill a hole with a laser in a tomato
Oct 7, 2015 11:01 AM - NFOsec: candlestone, a corian similar material works really well for engraving lithophanes (cnc or laser).
Oct 7, 2015 11:01 AM - Mike Glass: or you can make your own toast with a picture on it..lol
Oct 7, 2015 11:01 AM - NFOsec: definitely a little messy in both, but the key is you don't want material with metal.
Oct 7, 2015 11:01 AM - NFOsec: oh, I've done that a number of times.
Oct 7, 2015 11:01 AM - NFOsec: I also did some custom wedding cookies with names of the parties and date of marriage.
    Oct 7, 2015 11:02 AM - NFOsec: easy stuff.
Oct 7, 2015 11:02 AM - Mattchu: lol mmmm cookies
Oct 7, 2015 11:02 AM - Mattchu: you could literally just cook up a sheet of cookie dough
Oct 7, 2015 11:02 AM - Mattchu: and cut the cookies out O_O
Oct 7, 2015 11:03 AM - Mattchu: that, or, ya know, make a fixture for it >_>
    Oct 7, 2015 11:03 AM - Mike Kelly: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/moospyker/3d-printed-rc-snow-blower
    Oct 7, 2015 11:04 AM - Mattchu: ...what's Snow?
Oct 7, 2015 11:05 AM - PeterkSharma: anyone know of a good 3d printable door lock?
Oct 7, 2015 11:06 AM - NFOsec: handle grip type?
Oct 7, 2015 11:07 AM - PeterkSharma: looking for like a holder and pin
Oct 7, 2015 11:07 AM - PeterkSharma: somthing more to lock the door from the inside
Oct 7, 2015 11:10 AM - Mike Glass: haha , that thing is awesome MK
Oct 7, 2015 11:11 AM - Mike Glass: take like 8 hours to do my driveways though
    Oct 7, 2015 11:12 AM - Mattchu: crazy people and you're snow o_O
Oct 7, 2015 11:13 AM - Mattchu: on that note..gonna run to work now, and start looking at a place to put the cutter.
    Oct 7, 2015 11:13 AM - Mattchu: oh!
Oct 7, 2015 11:13 AM - Mattchu: how about those tiny 40W machines?
Oct 7, 2015 11:14 AM - Mike Glass: your gonna keep it at work?
    Oct 7, 2015 11:14 AM - Mattchu: the 40w one I would
    Oct 7, 2015 11:14 AM - Mattchu: hahaha
Oct 7, 2015 11:14 AM - Mattchu: the bigger one I'd want at home.
Oct 7, 2015 11:15 AM - Mike Glass: do you have space?
Oct 7, 2015 11:15 AM - Mike Glass: guess you could replace your bed.
    Oct 7, 2015 11:15 AM - daniel871: I like that kickstarter.
Oct 7, 2015 11:15 AM - PeterkSharma: alright 3d printing a bong.... let see how that goes
Oct 7, 2015 11:15 AM - daniel871: "I'm not responsible if you put your hands into the moving blades and get hurt!"
Oct 7, 2015 11:16 AM - daniel871: Printing something to give yourself cancer while you smoke something to prevent cancer?
Oct 7, 2015 11:16 AM - Mike Glass: make sure its abs
Oct 7, 2015 11:16 AM - Mike Glass: then you can vapor polish
Oct 7, 2015 11:16 AM - PeterkSharma: lol im just doing a proof of concept right now
Oct 7, 2015 11:17 AM - Mike Glass: im sure its just for looks though...haha
Oct 7, 2015 11:17 AM - PeterkSharma: lol this one is. the rest wont be ;)
Oct 7, 2015 11:17 AM - Mattchu: okay kids, I'll catch you later.
Oct 7, 2015 11:18 AM - daniel871: Be like whoever thought this up. [IMG]
Oct 7, 2015 11:18 AM - daniel871: And not have really thought about all of the consequences.
Oct 7, 2015 11:19 AM - PeterkSharma: the plasitic wont get hot at all
Oct 7, 2015 11:20 AM - PeterkSharma: going to use a silicone insulator and a glass downstem
Oct 7, 2015 11:20 AM - PeterkSharma: and glass bowl
Oct 7, 2015 11:20 AM - PeterkSharma: only thing that is printed is the part that hold water
    Oct 7, 2015 11:20 AM - daniel871: You've had water-tight prints?
    Oct 7, 2015 11:21 AM - PeterkSharma: yeah
    Oct 7, 2015 11:21 AM - PeterkSharma: t-glase prints water tight
    Oct 7, 2015 11:21 AM - PeterkSharma: and so will hd-glass
Oct 7, 2015 11:21 AM - PeterkSharma: havent tried with ABS
    Oct 7, 2015 11:21 AM - PeterkSharma: or bylon
Oct 7, 2015 11:21 AM - daniel871: Last few T-glase vases I've tried would appear to be solid, but water would seep thru somewhere and start dripping.
Oct 7, 2015 11:21 AM - PeterkSharma: soon im going to try and print a vacuum chamber with t-glase and see if it will hold a vacuum
Oct 7, 2015 11:22 AM - daniel871: I would probably use a Nylon or BluPrint for that if you really want strength.
Oct 7, 2015 11:22 AM - PeterkSharma: i think my z steps are off. so the layers smash on to eachother
Oct 7, 2015 11:22 AM - PeterkSharma: i've bee having trouble printing tall prints

Oct 7, 2015 11:23 AM - daniel871: I've had a hard time replicating the print results I got the other weekend where I was just fucking around and cranked my setup to almost 300% on the LCD while it was printing and it successfully printed and looked really good.
Oct 7, 2015 11:23 AM - PeterkSharma: I'm woking on 3 big projects. printing bongs, radios, and vacuum tubes
Oct 7, 2015 11:24 AM - PeterkSharma: yeah i find messing with the speed on the lcd works better for me than on the computer
Oct 7, 2015 11:25 AM - daniel871: I may just have to let the first couple mm of height print like normal then increase the speed manually and let it finish.
Oct 7, 2015 11:27 AM - daniel871: If that tutorial on S3D about setting up multiple processes for a single object and posting them all into a single program doesn't work.

Oct 7, 2015 11:39 AM - Mike Glass: altogether, right now..over weed. isnt that a song

Oct 7, 2015 11:53 AM - NFOsec: MG: new 12-pack set of colors for Laser colors arrived today.
Oct 7, 2015 11:53 AM - Mike Glass: Colors, you can print colors?
Oct 7, 2015 11:54 AM - NFOsec: you would think.
Oct 7, 2015 11:54 AM - NFOsec: color fills for laserw ork.
Oct 7, 2015 11:54 AM - Mike Glass: aw, I just use my unicorn spit.
    Oct 7, 2015 11:55 AM - daniel871: Haha, that reminds me.
Oct 7, 2015 11:55 AM - NFOsec: you have one of don's friends?
Oct 7, 2015 11:56 AM - daniel871: Anyone here remember the boss I was talking about the other week that was being a dick about someone being out because their daughter was having a baby?
Oct 7, 2015 11:56 AM - daniel871: Guy laid out of work Monday because his own daughter was having a baby.
Oct 7, 2015 11:57 AM - NFOsec: I don't know how many times people have to be told they can only leave work if it is proven to be THEIR child.
    Oct 7, 2015 11:57 AM - NFOsec: lol.
Oct 7, 2015 11:58 AM - daniel871: Yeah, that's one excuse to get out of work that I hope I never have to use.
Oct 7, 2015 11:59 AM - NFOsec: true enough, you don't need someone else impregnating your other half.
Oct 7, 2015 11:59 AM - Mike Glass: unless its for money
    Oct 7, 2015 12:00 PM - daniel871: Need another half to begin with. :p
Oct 7, 2015 12:00 PM - Mike Glass: all that egg harvesting they do these days

Oct 7, 2015 12:02 PM - daniel871: The doctor in that clip is hilarious.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:03 PM - daniel871: Also the follow-up had me choking.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:04 PM - daniel871: Wait, not the clip I was looking for, I think.
Oct 7, 2015 12:04 PM - NFOsec: so, you spend time watching sappy videos?
    Oct 7, 2015 12:04 PM - Mike Glass: lol
Oct 7, 2015 12:04 PM - daniel871: You must not have been paying attention.
Oct 7, 2015 12:05 PM - daniel871: There is a clip of the woman's reaction to not following the doctor's advice.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:05 PM - daniel871: "Oh god, I looked!" *anguished screaming*
Oct 7, 2015 12:05 PM - daniel871: "Remember when the Predator took off his mask? It looked like that!"
Oct 7, 2015 12:06 PM - PeterkSharma: first 12 hour print underway! wish me luck
    Oct 7, 2015 12:06 PM - daniel871: Psh, I'll wish you luck when you start a 36 hour print.
Oct 7, 2015 12:06 PM - Mike Glass: your insane
Oct 7, 2015 12:07 PM - PeterkSharma: what if i turned it down to 1/3 speed
    Oct 7, 2015 12:07 PM - daniel871: What about my insane?
Oct 7, 2015 12:07 PM - PeterkSharma: does it count then?
Oct 7, 2015 12:07 PM - Mike Glass: well if it is in s3d the time of finish is off by 12 hours..lol
Oct 7, 2015 12:07 PM - daniel871: Enjoy your clogged nozzle if you turn it down that low.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:07 PM - daniel871: :p
Oct 7, 2015 12:08 PM - Mike Glass: why would slow speed clog your nozzle?
Oct 7, 2015 12:11 PM - daniel871: Depends on the filament. I know any *fill will clog if it spends too much time in the hotend.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:11 PM - daniel871: Woodfill is the worst.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:13 PM - Mike Glass: I doubt he is printing a bong with woodfill..lol
Oct 7, 2015 12:17 PM - PeterkSharma: hahahahah im just using black pla
Oct 7, 2015 12:17 PM - PeterkSharma: im amazed at how many printer problems got fixed when i switched to s3d.... night and day on the prints
Oct 7, 2015 12:17 PM - daniel871: Also lately my JustPLA spools have been inexplicably clogging during prints.
Oct 7, 2015 12:17 PM - PeterkSharma: i tihnk this is some hatchbox
Oct 7, 2015 12:18 PM - PeterkSharma: if this works im going to try a t-glase run
    Oct 7, 2015 12:18 PM - PeterkSharma: its a .8lb print
Oct 7, 2015 12:19 PM - NFOsec: stop using kunta kinte slica Ixnay for the printing then!
    Oct 7, 2015 12:20 PM - daniel871: You mean TobySlicer?
Oct 7, 2015 12:20 PM - NFOsec: naw, that's exhibiting manager carnage cutting.
Oct 7, 2015 12:21 PM - PeterkSharma: lol wht slicer do you use?
    Oct 7, 2015 12:22 PM - daniel871: I use S3D and end up fighting environmental issues.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:22 PM - PeterkSharma: i used to use cura
Oct 7, 2015 12:22 PM - PeterkSharma: but i havent been having much luck with it
Oct 7, 2015 12:22 PM - daniel871: Or poor machining on the particular drive gear I have.
Oct 7, 2015 12:23 PM - PeterkSharma: whats a good SLA printer slicer?
Oct 7, 2015 12:24 PM - NFOsec: you need to clean your files before going to S3D, at least that's what I find almost always helps.
Oct 7, 2015 12:24 PM - PeterkSharma: what do you mean by clean your files?
Oct 7, 2015 12:25 PM - daniel871: I think most SLA printers that you buy come with their own slicer.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:26 PM - daniel871: Like the Formlabs Form1+ and Form2. I think it has a proprietary onboard slicer.
Oct 7, 2015 12:26 PM - NFOsec: netfabb, meshmixer, mamasbestpieslice, etc.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:26 PM - NFOsec: repair, etc.
Oct 7, 2015 12:26 PM - daniel871: Simplify3D has some rudimentary mesh repair functions in it.
Oct 7, 2015 12:27 PM - Mike Glass: very rude
Oct 7, 2015 12:27 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah im not dropping another 300 bucks....
    Oct 7, 2015 12:28 PM - PeterkSharma: i'll try mesh mixer out
Oct 7, 2015 12:28 PM - daniel871: http://formlabs.com/products/preform/ for the SLA software for the Formlabs SLA printers.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:28 PM - jbigler1986: get the russian trial version
Oct 7, 2015 12:28 PM - daniel871: Not sure if you can use that for a homemade SLA though.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:29 PM - PeterkSharma: @jb why russian trail?
    Oct 7, 2015 12:29 PM - PeterkSharma: @Dan yeah im making one
    Oct 7, 2015 12:29 PM - jbigler1986: the "free" version
Oct 7, 2015 12:30 PM - PeterkSharma: do you use netfabb
    Oct 7, 2015 12:30 PM - daniel871: Also known as a torrent license.
Oct 7, 2015 12:31 PM - Mike Glass: http://www.envisionlabs.net/ this is what you will need for sla.
Oct 7, 2015 12:32 PM - Mike Glass: Peter, im going to laser cut my parts for the sla..:p
Oct 7, 2015 12:32 PM - jbigler1986: what type of bit would be good for acrylics?
Oct 7, 2015 12:33 PM - PeterkSharma: are you ogoing bottom up?
Oct 7, 2015 12:34 PM - PeterkSharma: will you cnc me the mount of the z axis that dips into the liquid?
Oct 7, 2015 12:34 PM - Mike Glass: Yea, think thats the best way
Oct 7, 2015 12:34 PM - PeterkSharma: yeah thats the route im going. I have to find that material that goes on the bottom so the resin wont harded to the bottom of the tank
Oct 7, 2015 12:35 PM - Mike Glass: I dont cnc anything but wood till I get my new one.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:35 PM - PeterkSharma: ah
Oct 7, 2015 12:35 PM - PeterkSharma: what build are you using for your printer?
    Oct 7, 2015 12:35 PM - daniel871: A Single-flute O-bit from Onsrud, JB.
Oct 7, 2015 12:36 PM - Mike Glass: just going to wing it as I go, I have a new DMD chip for my dlp im replacing now.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:36 PM - PeterkSharma: dmd?
    Oct 7, 2015 12:36 PM - daniel871: Hang on and I'll get a link, JB.

Oct 7, 2015 12:38 PM - daniel871: Kyocera is a good brand, too (the one MG linked).
Oct 7, 2015 12:38 PM - Mike Glass: $26.70, for little piece your effin nuts
Oct 7, 2015 12:39 PM - daniel871: Onsrud is like the cadillac of bit manufacturers though.
Oct 7, 2015 12:39 PM - Mike Glass: they are ok, but for hobbiest, worthless
Oct 7, 2015 12:39 PM - daniel871: We're still using bits we bought back in 2013 for machining UHMW with fiberglass filler.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:39 PM - daniel871: At work.
Oct 7, 2015 12:43 PM - daniel871: Here's some useful information on the machining end of it, JB. http://www.engraverssolutions.com/PDFs/tips&tricks-routing_acrylic.pdf
Oct 7, 2015 12:43 PM - Mike Glass: ohh need to stop at HF tonight, what do I need?
Oct 7, 2015 12:46 PM - Mike Glass: wasnt the world suppose to end today?
Oct 7, 2015 12:46 PM - daniel871: Maybe it did and this is Hell.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:46 PM - jbigler1986: woah. that's deep
    Oct 7, 2015 12:46 PM - daniel871: Also the day isn't over yet.
    Oct 7, 2015 12:46 PM - Mike Glass: true
    Oct 7, 2015 12:47 PM - Mike Glass: I better prepare then.
Oct 7, 2015 12:47 PM - daniel871: Plenty of time for a meteor that we didn't see because of NASA funding cuts and angry nerds working there being all "Fuck you all then, we won't tell you what is coming!" to come in and obliterate us.
Oct 7, 2015 12:47 PM - jbigler1986: well october 7th is over in some parts of the world
    Oct 7, 2015 12:47 PM - daniel871: Not in "God's Country".
Oct 7, 2015 12:49 PM - jbigler1986: that guy gave me the files for his dust boot
    Oct 7, 2015 12:50 PM - daniel871: Dust boot?

    Oct 7, 2015 1:10 PM - jbigler1986: fried green beans?
Oct 7, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Kelly: something from the grocery store
Oct 7, 2015 1:10 PM - Mike Glass: frozen are the worst
Oct 7, 2015 1:11 PM - daniel871: Apparently, the trip to Sweden that was cancelled earlier this year wasn't properly "cancelled" and now the company is going to send me over there anyway before they lose the credit for the airline/train/hotel/etc. through whatever company they arrange travel stuff with.
Oct 7, 2015 1:12 PM - daniel871: Non-refundable non-transferable. What the hell? I'd be finding another company or arranging stuff myself.
    Oct 7, 2015 1:12 PM - daniel871: (not that I'm begrudging a mostly free trip overseas for a week.
Oct 7, 2015 1:12 PM - Mike Glass: maybe they are trying to send you off to find some hot babe in sweden?
    Oct 7, 2015 1:13 PM - daniel871: In Karlstad?
Oct 7, 2015 1:13 PM - Mike Glass: oh yea thats a dude only place.
    Oct 7, 2015 1:15 PM - daniel871: Also it'll be mid-December.

    Oct 7, 2015 1:24 PM - Mike Glass: and Wasp..lol Love JP.
Oct 7, 2015 1:28 PM - jbigler1986: not a big fan. they are good live though
Oct 7, 2015 1:28 PM - jbigler1986: Same with Rob Zombie. I am not a fan but he puts on an amazing live show
Oct 7, 2015 1:28 PM - daniel871: Naturally, the week I'm there will be nothing but Frank Sinatra tributes.

Oct 7, 2015 1:30 PM - PeterkSharma: I think im going to do lead screw swap
    Oct 7, 2015 1:30 PM - daniel871: Good luck with that Peter.
    Oct 7, 2015 1:30 PM - PeterkSharma: is it a hard project?
    Oct 7, 2015 1:30 PM - jbigler1986: don't get them from Robo
Oct 7, 2015 1:30 PM - daniel871: Took two tries with the ones supplied by Robo before it worked.
Oct 7, 2015 1:30 PM - PeterkSharma: just swap the motor right?
    Oct 7, 2015 1:30 PM - PeterkSharma: ugh
    Oct 7, 2015 1:30 PM - daniel871: Bent screws are a bitch.
Oct 7, 2015 1:31 PM - PeterkSharma: hopefully you got all the bent ones
Oct 7, 2015 1:31 PM - jbigler1986: Robo is an easier swap if you get non bent ones. Other ones are way less to worry about
Oct 7, 2015 1:31 PM - daniel871: Me and about a dozen or so other people.
    Oct 7, 2015 1:31 PM - jbigler1986: several people got bent ones
    Oct 7, 2015 1:31 PM - Mike Glass: I got one out of 3
Oct 7, 2015 1:32 PM - daniel871: The current ones work good, now I'm fighting Bowden.
Oct 7, 2015 1:32 PM - Mike Glass: so your odds are meh..
Oct 7, 2015 1:32 PM - jbigler1986: i have had no issues with my leadscrews
Oct 7, 2015 1:32 PM - Mike Glass: just his engrish
    Oct 7, 2015 1:32 PM - jbigler1986: yep
Oct 7, 2015 1:32 PM - daniel871: My actual prints themselves have been looking great, it's the stupid drive gear stripping on the filament.
    Oct 7, 2015 1:33 PM - jbigler1986: now let me ax you a question
Oct 7, 2015 1:33 PM - jbigler1986: did you see the hob goblen that PS posted yesterday?
    Oct 7, 2015 1:33 PM - jbigler1986: goblin
Oct 7, 2015 1:34 PM - daniel871: Being charged with whatever police charge you for prank calling them for reporting a suspected "serial ask killer" in the neighborhood.
Oct 7, 2015 1:34 PM - daniel871: Yeah, I ordered one for the stepper I have that has the 8mm shaft to try.
Oct 7, 2015 1:35 PM - jbigler1986: does the 5mm have enough meat to bore it out?
    Oct 7, 2015 1:35 PM - jbigler1986: to 6mm
Oct 7, 2015 1:39 PM - jbigler1986: what odds do you guys say that half of the robbi parts get broke on their way to CES?
Oct 7, 2015 1:43 PM - NFOsec: very little. I'd say they'll all retain some excessive amount of moisture and fall apart during assembly.
Oct 7, 2015 1:47 PM - PeterkSharma: i just unboxed my steppers and they look great
    Oct 7, 2015 1:48 PM - jbigler1986: what steppers
Oct 7, 2015 1:49 PM - PeterkSharma: lead screw kit
    Oct 7, 2015 1:49 PM - jbigler1986: didn't know you ordered them
    Oct 7, 2015 1:50 PM - jbigler1986: don't forget to change z steps
Oct 7, 2015 1:50 PM - PeterkSharma: one is slightly bent
    Oct 7, 2015 1:51 PM - jbigler1986: sounds about right
Oct 7, 2015 1:51 PM - PeterkSharma: does it make a big difference in the print quality?
    Oct 7, 2015 1:51 PM - jbigler1986: how bent
Oct 7, 2015 1:51 PM - PeterkSharma: just at the very top slightly
    Oct 7, 2015 1:51 PM - PeterkSharma: maybe <1
    Oct 7, 2015 1:51 PM - PeterkSharma: mm
Oct 7, 2015 1:52 PM - PeterkSharma: like .025 degrees when i line them up next to eachother
    Oct 7, 2015 1:52 PM - PeterkSharma: .25*
Oct 7, 2015 1:52 PM - jbigler1986: plug them and move z. check that way
Oct 7, 2015 1:53 PM - PeterkSharma: did you get your dual set up to work?
Oct 7, 2015 1:54 PM - jbigler1986: i removed the ramps and am using it on my cnc
Oct 7, 2015 1:54 PM - jbigler1986: i needed to rewire. I will rewire the robo this weekend
Oct 7, 2015 1:54 PM - PeterkSharma: lol not much printing happening
    Oct 7, 2015 1:54 PM - jbigler1986: nope
Oct 7, 2015 1:54 PM - PeterkSharma: my cyclops just came in
Oct 7, 2015 1:55 PM - PeterkSharma: and i have my bondtechs.... but its kinda like, thats a lot of work. so i've been putting it off
Oct 7, 2015 1:56 PM - jbigler1986: it is a lot of work. going bowden?
    Oct 7, 2015 2:01 PM - PeterkSharma: have yet
Oct 7, 2015 2:01 PM - PeterkSharma: will let you know

Oct 7, 2015 2:02 PM - PeterkSharma: ohh wait miss read that
    Oct 7, 2015 2:02 PM - PeterkSharma: yea i am
Oct 7, 2015 2:02 PM - PeterkSharma: does anyone have the e3d mounting plate stl for cyclops or chimera?
Oct 7, 2015 2:03 PM - Mike Glass: I need to finish my extruder so I can get my v6 on and bowden setup.
Oct 7, 2015 2:03 PM - Mike Glass: wonder if I can cut some spacer out of plexi for the stepper instead of finding the right size pipe to fit over.
Oct 7, 2015 2:06 PM - PeterkSharma: what is infill angle for?
Oct 7, 2015 2:07 PM - Mike Glass: that the angle that is uses for infill, if you put it at 90 then it will go straight
Oct 7, 2015 2:08 PM - Mike Glass: I use it for some uniform objects that I print, that dont want the look of the angle extrusion.
    Oct 7, 2015 2:15 PM - PeterkSharma: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:329596/#files
    Oct 7, 2015 2:15 PM - PeterkSharma: hell yea!
    Oct 7, 2015 2:20 PM - Mike Glass: I like that one that looks like a V G N A
Oct 7, 2015 2:20 PM - PeterkSharma: havent seen it
Oct 7, 2015 2:20 PM - PeterkSharma: is it up on thingiverse?
Oct 7, 2015 2:21 PM - Mike Glass: nope, think its on JB's site
    Oct 7, 2015 2:24 PM - PeterkSharma: ?
    Oct 7, 2015 2:24 PM - PeterkSharma: have a link
Oct 7, 2015 2:27 PM - Mike Glass: oh it is on thingiverse. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:994075
    Oct 7, 2015 2:50 PM - jbigler1986: Mg
Oct 7, 2015 2:54 PM - jbigler1986: Where do I put the starting height in estlcam
Oct 7, 2015 2:55 PM - jbigler1986: Like how far above the stock the bit is at start
Oct 7, 2015 3:02 PM - PeterkSharma: what temp do yall print abs at?
Oct 7, 2015 4:19 PM - Mike Glass: jb what do you mean the starting height
    Oct 7, 2015 4:32 PM - PeterkSharma: https://www.kickstarter.com/project...arm-that-makes-anything?ref=category_featured
Oct 7, 2015 4:37 PM - jbigler1986: Like the height when you start the print
Oct 7, 2015 4:45 PM - Mike Glass: you always start at 0 so you rest the bit on the start point. it will raise up what every you have set in the clearance plane.
    Oct 7, 2015 4:51 PM - jbigler1986: so would i leave clearance plane at 0?
    Oct 7, 2015 4:52 PM - jbigler1986: can you walk me through a part?
    Oct 7, 2015 4:52 PM - jbigler1986: just going to draw a 30x30 square
    Oct 7, 2015 4:52 PM - jbigler1986: mm
    Oct 7, 2015 4:56 PM - jbigler1986: ok square is loaded
Oct 7, 2015 5:03 PM - Mike Kelly: hey MG, when wiring up the stepper motors do the motors get wired identically, ie red to red
Oct 7, 2015 5:03 PM - Mike Kelly: or do you swap the cores per side, ie one is red to red and the other is red to green
Oct 7, 2015 5:30 PM - Mike Glass: let me look at my diagram
Oct 7, 2015 5:35 PM - Mike Glass: well mine had red-green-yellow-blue, yours may be different, I followed his diagram.
Oct 7, 2015 5:36 PM - NFOsec: you mean you followed the diagram of the teen clock maker?
Oct 7, 2015 5:37 PM - Mike Glass: well actually I followed the technical documents
    Oct 7, 2015 5:38 PM - Mike Glass: [IMG]
    Oct 7, 2015 5:38 PM - NFOsec: an, a unabomber if I saw one.
Oct 7, 2015 5:40 PM - Mike Glass: thats alot more sophisticated
Oct 7, 2015 6:25 PM - Mike Kelly: I just feel like they need to spin in opposite directions
    Oct 7, 2015 6:27 PM - jbigler1986: invert it in config
Oct 7, 2015 6:32 PM - Mike Glass: They do, but the steppers are not pointed in the same direction.
Oct 7, 2015 6:33 PM - Mike Glass: There is no inverter built into the ramps
Oct 7, 2015 6:33 PM - Mike Kelly: but since they face different directions wouldn't the cores need to be swapped?
Oct 7, 2015 6:34 PM - Mike Glass: look at that diagram there is just one of them swapped.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:36 PM - Mike Kelly: m1 and m2 don't stand for motor
    Oct 7, 2015 6:36 PM - Mike Kelly: ?
    Oct 7, 2015 6:36 PM - Mike Glass: yes
Oct 7, 2015 6:38 PM - Mike Kelly: i'm confused because besides the bottom pairs being flipped the top pair is still normal
Oct 7, 2015 6:38 PM - Mike Kelly: and i don't think it matters on the former
Oct 7, 2015 6:40 PM - Mike Glass: well just make sure when you spin one, the other one goes opposite.
Oct 7, 2015 6:42 PM - jim3Dbot: JB, just dropped in....don't want to interfere......if both sre operating simul.....loosen the coupling...mark the shafts..............mark the frame (fixed spot)...like your timin' your car...back in the day...............send a small command.............you won't break nothing.............both marks should move the same rotational angle (distance)...........go slow if possible...note cw/ccw direction
    Oct 7, 2015 6:42 PM - jim3Dbot: are*
    Oct 7, 2015 6:43 PM - NFOsec: lol... they stand for m(ike)1 and m(ike)2
    Oct 7, 2015 6:45 PM - Mike Kelly: yeah
Oct 7, 2015 6:45 PM - Mike Kelly: wish i knw how the wiring was
Oct 7, 2015 6:45 PM - Mike Glass: The diagram not help?
Oct 7, 2015 6:46 PM - Mike Glass: Thats exactly what I did.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:47 PM - jim3Dbot: drawing makes sense to me.....MG
Oct 7, 2015 6:48 PM - Mike Glass: as long as you have the diagram for your steppers it should be easy peasy.
    Oct 7, 2015 6:53 PM - jim3Dbot: Bipolar steppers M1 & M2 Ports......Wife watchin' paused DVR.....later
    Oct 7, 2015 6:57 PM - Mike Glass: lol
    Oct 7, 2015 7:09 PM - jbigler1986: man i like vectric aspire a lot. Just can't find a marlin post processor
Oct 7, 2015 7:16 PM - NFOsec: aspire is steep. v-carve does just about everything you would need to do.
Oct 7, 2015 7:18 PM - jbigler1986: well aspire i got a russian version. v-carve trial you can only do tutorial files
    Oct 7, 2015 7:21 PM - NFOsec: I don't need to hear that.
    Oct 7, 2015 7:22 PM - NFOsec: but that's cool.
    Oct 7, 2015 7:22 PM - jbigler1986: lol
Oct 7, 2015 7:26 PM - NFOsec: so, technically printing semi-flex ninjaflex for the first time. doing a tire right now. really turning out well.
Oct 7, 2015 7:33 PM - Mike Glass: oh, what for
Oct 7, 2015 7:34 PM - daniel871: Apparently, my setup wants to either run fast or not at all.
Oct 7, 2015 7:36 PM - daniel871: 120mm/s seems to run smooth, any slower than that and the gear starts stripping.
Oct 7, 2015 7:36 PM - daniel871: Weird as hell because you'd think that would make it strip faster.
Oct 7, 2015 7:39 PM - NFOsec: well, spoke too soon. I'm not sure I understand how this happened, but I noticed the end that goes into the extruder/hot-end actually coming up and out through the hob gear. I'm guessing retraction is too high and it pulled back.
Oct 7, 2015 7:45 PM - NFOsec: MG: I wanted to do the rings in semiflex instead of Glod PLA.
Oct 7, 2015 7:46 PM - NFOsec: but before I go there, I was going to print up a set of RC tires.
Oct 7, 2015 7:46 PM - NFOsec: RC truck tires that is.
Oct 7, 2015 7:46 PM - NFOsec: so, it HAS to be retraction that would have pulled it out, then ended up causing it to circle back up and out the top.
    Oct 7, 2015 7:47 PM - daniel871: You have a stock hotend?
Oct 7, 2015 7:52 PM - NFOsec: yeah, daniel, I do. I'm doing it at about 30mm, which had printed great for the first 3/4" of height, but then things went haywire. I'm more positive it's due to excessive retraction, it's the only way that melted end could have ever made it's way back up and out.,
Oct 7, 2015 7:54 PM - daniel871: That or the hotend fan is failing.
Oct 7, 2015 7:57 PM - NFOsec: no, no problem there. fan is working great, see, if the filament is fed in, and you retract too much, eventually you can pull it out and when it starts to feed back, it could circle around and go up the hob gear and out an opening.
Oct 7, 2015 7:57 PM - NFOsec: what are you drinking man?
    Oct 7, 2015 7:57 PM - NFOsec: :)
    Oct 7, 2015 8:04 PM - NFOsec: doing test run #2.
    Oct 7, 2015 8:05 PM - NFOsec: retraction set at .3 and speed 20mm vs. 30mm
Oct 7, 2015 8:06 PM - NFOsec: so how goes daniel?
Oct 7, 2015 8:15 PM - Mike Glass: I heard 5mm is what you have to run for flex
    Oct 7, 2015 8:15 PM - NFOsec: 5mm for what?
    Oct 7, 2015 8:15 PM - NFOsec: retraction speed?
    Oct 7, 2015 8:15 PM - Mike Glass: yea
Oct 7, 2015 8:16 PM - NFOsec: I'm printing quite well at 30 with 20retraction so far, but I can reduce that speed. what about the length?|
    Oct 7, 2015 8:16 PM - NFOsec: was at 1.00, I set it to .30
Oct 7, 2015 8:16 PM - NFOsec: maybe I should cut the tire out on the "laser".
    Oct 7, 2015 8:17 PM - Mike Glass: lol
Oct 7, 2015 8:17 PM - NFOsec: got some pro-sealer with the colors too.
Oct 7, 2015 8:17 PM - NFOsec: the favorite colors I see are Glod, Copper, and Brass.
Oct 7, 2015 8:17 PM - Mike Glass: no white
Oct 7, 2015 8:17 PM - NFOsec: although, purple, yellow and green are sharp.
Oct 7, 2015 8:18 PM - NFOsec: yeah, have white, black, red, green, yellow, gold, copper, brass, purple, blue , powder blue, and navy blue.

    Oct 7, 2015 8:19 PM - NFOsec: oh, silver.
Oct 7, 2015 8:25 PM - Mike Glass: hate when i forget something as simple as support...ugg
Oct 7, 2015 8:29 PM - NFOsec: well, setting to 5mm retraction speed. any thoughts on length MG?
Oct 7, 2015 8:29 PM - NFOsec: it failed sooner than later at 20mm even though it was 30mm before.
    Oct 7, 2015 8:30 PM - Mike Glass: 4 maybe
    Oct 7, 2015 8:30 PM - NFOsec: .4 for reaction? currently .3 when it was 1.00
    Oct 7, 2015 8:30 PM - Mike Glass: no not .4
    Oct 7, 2015 8:30 PM - Mike Glass: 4
Oct 7, 2015 8:30 PM - NFOsec: maybe speed will help bu,t I think it's going back too much.
Oct 7, 2015 8:31 PM - Mike Glass: think thats what mk was running
Oct 7, 2015 8:31 PM - NFOsec: so you're saying retract 4mm for distance? the problem I'm having is that it's retracting too much, when it starts to feed again, it's going up the hob gear and coming out the top.
Oct 7, 2015 8:31 PM - NFOsec: I figured less retraction would make more sense because then it wouldn't pull it back and out?
Oct 7, 2015 8:32 PM - NFOsec: will have to look at forums to see if any clowns posted, but 4 seems excessive.
Oct 7, 2015 8:32 PM - Mike Glass: thats what I thought but im no expert on that stuff.
    Oct 7, 2015 8:33 PM - NFOsec: mutha.
Oct 7, 2015 8:34 PM - NFOsec: Mark Tomilinson suggested the 30mm speed 210-225c hot end and 20-50c heated bed.
Oct 7, 2015 8:34 PM - NFOsec: but the other settings not yet.
    Oct 7, 2015 8:43 PM - NFOsec: summabutch.
    Oct 7, 2015 8:43 PM - NFOsec: well, anyway.
Oct 7, 2015 8:43 PM - NFOsec: trash your cellphone case yet MG?
Oct 7, 2015 8:45 PM - Mike Glass: no its rubber
Oct 7, 2015 8:46 PM - Mike Glass: was thinking about doing the actual back of the phone
Oct 7, 2015 8:46 PM - NFOsec: yeah, have done that... one good, one fail.
Oct 7, 2015 8:48 PM - Mike Glass: what about the front ever do that?
Oct 7, 2015 8:48 PM - NFOsec: mean the glass?
    Oct 7, 2015 8:49 PM - Mike Glass: yea
Oct 7, 2015 8:49 PM - NFOsec: on a dead iphone yeah, but the glass capacitor touch screen would get severely damaged.
Oct 7, 2015 8:49 PM - NFOsec: you could posisbly do a super fast and super low power and etch, but not sure the point.
Oct 7, 2015 8:50 PM - NFOsec: different phones have different situations.
Oct 7, 2015 8:50 PM - NFOsec: if it fires deep enough to hit the metal beneath it, it'll burn up.
Oct 7, 2015 8:50 PM - NFOsec: so, if you like playing with fire, go for it.
    Oct 7, 2015 8:50 PM - Mike Glass: sweet
Oct 7, 2015 8:50 PM - Mike Glass: I will try on wifes phone first
    Oct 7, 2015 8:51 PM - NFOsec: HA.
Oct 7, 2015 8:51 PM - NFOsec: jesus. 788min to print something that normally comes out about20 minutes in PLA.
Oct 7, 2015 8:52 PM - NFOsec: thus hob gear approach is weak compared to my Micron3DP because that extrudor/hotend never had problem with flex. it used a set of rollers prior to the hob.
    Oct 7, 2015 8:52 PM - NFOsec: shit.
Oct 7, 2015 8:53 PM - NFOsec: 'I'm going to try it at 30mm, no retraction.
Oct 7, 2015 8:53 PM - Mike Glass: yea no retraction will work, just have a few boogers
Oct 7, 2015 8:56 PM - NFOsec: actually I might not have boogers.
    Oct 7, 2015 8:56 PM - NFOsec: I might have a serious off-road tire. lol.
Oct 7, 2015 8:56 PM - Mike Glass: lol true
Oct 7, 2015 8:57 PM - NFOsec: Firestone, Michellin or some other company might buy my booger design.
Oct 7, 2015 8:58 PM - Mike Glass: doing a sign that I usually do on the cnc right now, see how it turns out.
    Oct 7, 2015 8:59 PM - NFOsec: cool.
Oct 7, 2015 8:59 PM - Mike Glass: looks good soo far. need to find a way to do an offset like I can on my cnc though.

Oct 7, 2015 at 9:01 PM - Mike Glass: I hate looking , just like to see the finished product, on the cnc I have to baby sit it,
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:02 PM - NFOsec: offset such as?
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:02 PM - NFOsec: you can do all the offsets you want.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:02 PM - Mike Glass: I can create another inside line from the cutout line
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:02 PM - Mike Glass: the use that line to engrave
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:03 PM - Mike Glass: will see how this looks without it.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:03 PM - NFOsec: remember, not all lines, images, etc. have to end up in the output, you can set them to not be included in output.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:03 PM - NFOsec: looking forward to seeing it.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:04 PM - Mike Glass: this thing sounds pretty cool at 550mm/s
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:10 PM - NFOsec: yeah, anything over 500 is pretty nifty.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:10 PM - NFOsec: vvvrrooom or whiz?
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:11 PM - NFOsec: do you know how long the hotend is and how much space it has until it gets near the hobbed gear?
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:12 PM - NFOsec: I have some spares from the Micron3DP with the long brass tubes where I could trim down one.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:12 PM - Mike Glass: well i have seen the tech documents on it
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:13 PM - Mike Glass: think I mays till have it here somewhere
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:13 PM - NFOsec: the nozzles from filastruder are pending covering a backorder of the hardened ones. The guy offered to swap with stainless if I wanted stuff faster. I said huh? HA!
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:15 PM - Mike Glass: nice
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:17 PM - Mike Glass: and its done
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:18 PM - Mike Kelly: well i got 99% of the wiring done, finally looked up the wiring diagram now it makes more sense
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:19 PM - Mike Kelly: will fire it up tomorrow
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:20 PM - Mike Glass: woohoo
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:22 PM - Mike Glass: check it out NFO http://imgur.com/qaOYnWt
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:24 PM - NFOsec: very nice Mike!
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:24 PM - Mike Kelly: nice
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:25 PM - NFOsec: I bet that will add another dimension altogether for you.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:25 PM - NFOsec: you know, you could laser engrave a picture and route it or vice versa, creating a multi-dimensional effect.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:25 PM - NFOsec: very nice.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:25 PM - Mike Glass: was a pain to set up but now its ready to roll, although it didnt cut all the way through on the bottom. had to break some of the wood.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:28 PM - NFOsec: well, I would always recommend a second pass, or validate that the areas you didn't cut through are actually level to the laser head as opposed to the other areas.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:29 PM - NFOsec: In other words, go to each corner, verify focus length between laser/material, then move to next cvorner, verify the same, then bottom corners as well. if they're all same distance, it should all cut.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:29 PM - NFOsec: otherwise do a two-pass to be safe.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:30 PM - Mike Glass: how does the pass work
    Oct 7, 2015 at 9:31 PM - Mike Glass: 2
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:31 PM - Mike Glass: this was due to a warped board
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:32 PM - NFOsec: ah. that happens, some of my 1/8" gets warped so I keep it stored weighted down and stacked.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:32 PM - NFOsec: the 1/4" boards are pretty firm and straight.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:32 PM - NFOsec: how exciting, now you have another tool to work with mediums you're familiar with
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:33 PM - NFOsec: I'd be curious to compare the gcode between the two.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:34 PM - Mike Glass: they would be totally different as im just doing vgroove routing on the edges.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:34 PM - Mike Glass: then a bit change for the cutout
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:35 PM - Mike Glass: where do I add to do 2 passes?
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:36 PM - NFOsec: well, what I do is one of 2 things, copy the same outline and give it another color with same cut requirements, or, remove everything except that outline and run the job with cut. important you don't touch anything.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:37 PM - NFOsec: there was supposed to be a way to multi-pass the cuts but I don't see it in RDworks, I've seen it in Epilog and Trotec stuff.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:37 PM - Mike Glass: ok so no secret button im missing
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:37 PM - NFOsec: will look.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:37 PM - NFOsec: yeah, marbles, you're missing marbles.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:37 PM - NFOsec: let me look again.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:38 PM - Mike Glass: lol exopt file successd, nice engrish people.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:39 PM - NFOsec: yo, on YouBoob there is a guy "Thunder Laser" that has been providing tons of RDWorks tutorials lately.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:39 PM - Mike Glass: yea I watched some of those
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:41 PM - NFOsec: he's not too bad. I did notice he never had laser through mode enabled.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:41 PM - NFOsec: probably doing full power most of the time.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:42 PM - Mike Glass: yea I should of gone up to 75, thing that was my failsafe.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:42 PM - NFOsec: you never answered me, what do you think about electronifying this machine to have a machine moveable bed and auto-probe focus like that prick thing we saw danz or whoever have?
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:43 PM - NFOsec: gotta find your material benchmarks.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:43 PM - NFOsec: but cool.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:44 PM - NFOsec: auto-level/auto-probe for focus would make this machine 100% more valuable IMHO.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:44 PM - NFOsec: it could be a kit you could sell and make a mint.
    Oct 7, 2015 at 9:44 PM - NFOsec: I want 20% for the idea. :)
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:44 PM - Mike Glass: Oh yea, Mk has the infrared autolevel, is that what your talking about
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:45 PM - NFOsec: yeah, that's one thing, focus then level.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:45 PM - Mike Glass: I would love to make the bed moveable, think it would be fairly easy
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:45 PM - Mike Glass: need another driver and a few steppers is all.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:46 PM - NFOsec: stepper, the driver there could accomodate possibly?
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:46 PM - Mike Glass: looks like you can add 2 more drivers the the board.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:46 PM - NFOsec: actually it wouldn't since there are 2 in use Y / X, and the bed would need 4 not 2.
    Oct 7, 2015 at 9:46 PM - NFOsec: yeah.
    Oct 7, 2015 at 9:46 PM - NFOsec: yeah.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:47 PM - Mike Glass: I have seen them with 2
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:48 PM - Mike Glass: should be able to drive 2 steppers with 1 driver, maybe not sure if it has enough amps.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:50 PM - NFOsec: this was interesting..
    Oct 7, 2015 at 9:50 PM - NFOsec:
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:50 PM - NFOsec: the lasering of glass... used a photo
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:53 PM - NFOsec: crappy quality.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:55 PM - Mike Glass: Yea that was
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:55 PM - NFOsec: why bother showing that compared to the crap we did with no effort? :)
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:55 PM - NFOsec: honestly, most of the glass I've cut were plates and mirrors.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:55 PM - Mike Glass: looks like he was running it too hot also
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:56 PM - NFOsec: no kidding.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:56 PM - NFOsec: but that green pad was ideal for cleaning without being too abbraisive.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:56 PM - Mike Glass: yea thats what I use
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:56 PM - Mike Glass: I tried steel wool but only have the big stuff
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:56 PM - NFOsec: I use these special dry-wall sponge sanders, a much finer abbraisive.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:58 PM - Mike Glass: the white pads are probably the best to use, think I have some of those.
    Oct 7, 2015 at 9:58 PM - NFOsec: yeah.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:58 PM - NFOsec: just make sure they're not marked Maxi.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:58 PM - Mike Glass: haha
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:59 PM - NFOsec: I think people grew tired of "laser" discussions. been pretty quiet this week.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:59 PM - Mike Glass: ok, i gots to get to bed long day today, and tired as hell
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:59 PM - Mike Glass: haha yea but now cnc is on the verge
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:59 PM - NFOsec: lol. I know. jb is driving that one.
Oct 7, 2015 at 9:59 PM - NFOsec: well, MK as well I think and even Bill.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:00 PM - Mike Glass: This should be a makerspace shoutbox really
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:00 PM - NFOsec: may a .8 hot end might help with the semiflex.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:01 PM - Mike Glass: hmm good question, that or a .6 could help I suppose
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:01 PM - NFOsec: it bundled up again, the first time I printed at 30mm everything else the same I got almost 3/4" high, thereafter hven't gotten past 5-10 layers with modifications.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:01 PM - Mike Glass: give it a shot, I dont hav any to try here.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:01 PM - NFOsec: but will have to wait to get the other sizes, not in yet.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:02 PM - NFOsec: I heard the bridge 618 is comparable to the issues of semi-flex where it needs to be SLOW.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:02 PM - NFOsec: feeder problems seem to be the common thread.

Oct 7, 2015 at 10:02 PM - Mike Glass: yea, other issues with that as well
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:02 PM - Mike Glass: with at least a hex hotend
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:03 PM - NFOsec: those are key filaments I need to print in, I've got literally 8 spools of 618 and 4 of 910.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:03 PM - Mike Glass: unless you bake all the moisture out
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:03 PM - NFOsec: 2 of the semiflex to try -- that 3/4" tire is awesome, but damn.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:03 PM - Mike Glass: thats why im going to the V6 it alot more forgiving
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:03 PM - NFOsec: mmm... take the moisture out and toughen the filament is going to ruin the flexibility no doubt.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:04 PM - NFOsec: so, no "turnkey" v6 process upgrade as I understand.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:04 PM - NFOsec: lots of fidgeting... while I enjoy it, my time is too tight to fidget.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:04 PM - Mike Glass: nope, thats why I built my own carriage
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:05 PM - NFOsec: if I took the cover off the robo, I could use the Micron3DP.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:05 PM - Mike Glass: alright off to bed, see ya later.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:05 PM - NFOsec: ok. ciao.
Oct 7, 2015 at 10:06 PM - NFOsec: good job on the last sign.
Oct 7, 2015 at 11:49 PM - Mattchu: evening all.
Oct 7, 2015 at 11:57 PM - Kevin Nguyen: ello
    Oct 8, 2015 at 12:00 AM - Mattchu: howdy kevin, what's up?
Oct 8, 2015 at 12:01 AM - Kevin Nguyen: nm just looking to buy/make a 3d printer for a friend but idk what design to go with
Oct 8, 2015 at 12:02 AM - Kevin Nguyen: hbu?
Oct 8, 2015 at 12:07 AM - Mattchu: relaxing, I get my enclosure tomorrow. Do you own any yet?
    Oct 8, 2015 at 12:07 AM - Mattchu: own a printer yet?
    Oct 8, 2015 at 12:07 AM - Kevin Nguyen: i own the robo3d
    Oct 8, 2015 at 12:07 AM - Kevin Nguyen: over a year now :D
    Oct 8, 2015 at 12:07 AM - Mattchu: niiiice!
Oct 8, 2015 at 12:08 AM - Mattchu: I wouldn't know much about making one...if I did, I'd probably go all lead screw (but that's me, and I don't like tightening belts).
Oct 8, 2015 at 12:09 AM - Mattchu: It'd be slower than anything else though belt wise, I'd imagine.
Oct 8, 2015 at 12:14 AM - Mattchu: buying, I still feel the robo is the best deal (since it's built). If there was a company I'd avoid, it'd be 3D systems...their customer support has been awful for me to deal with.
Oct 8, 2015 at 12:15 AM - Mattchu: and that's on a professional unit...I can't even imagine how they treat the owners of the smaller stuff.
Oct 8, 2015 at 12:15 AM - Mattchu: the deltas are kinda nifty, I'd like to make one of those.
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:21 AM - JeffTheMess: morning roboneers
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:30 AM - nonmindo: soooo... fix one thing another thing fails and is failing.... anyone know if robo will sell just the plastic ends to the bed?
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:30 AM - nonmindo: and also what specs would i need for a gt2 replacement for the bed?
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:31 AM - Bill Monroe: morning
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:32 AM - nonmindo: morning bill
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:32 AM - nonmindo: so sad...been having nothing but problem after problem ever since printing with this shaxon flourescent green translucent pla
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:34 AM - nonmindo: i dont think all of the issues are from the filament tho, lol.... replaced my hobbed bolt and that seemed to fix my extruding issue with the stuff but then my print shifted on the Y, so started to take the bed off and the bracket just fell apart on the baclk
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:34 AM - nonmindo: and my gt2 has a nice stretch and near full failure :(
    Oct 8, 2015 at 5:35 AM - jbigler1986: morning
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:35 AM - Bill Monroe: jb
    Oct 8, 2015 at 5:36 AM - jbigler1986: how are things
    Oct 8, 2015 at 5:36 AM - nonmindo: saD
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:36 AM - Bill Monroe: ok.. just got back home after being gone a week... still acclimating :)
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:37 AM - Bill Monroe: how you doing?
Oct 8, 2015 at 5:52 AM - jbigler1986: good. Found a cam that I like. No post processor for marlin though. It does have TinyG though which is what I will use for the Uno and grbl that will be arriving today
    Oct 8, 2015 at 5:53 AM - jbigler1986: Aspire is what I found
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:02 AM - nonmindo: im beginning to wonder if there is even anyone staffing the robo customner service line for tech support..... they claim 24/7, but been on hold for 15m now
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:03 AM - JeffTheMess: its a third party support group
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:03 AM - JeffTheMess: no one from robo will answer
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:03 AM - nonmindo: oh joy
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:03 AM - nonmindo: wonder if they know what support refurb units get for parts
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:04 AM - nonmindo: im assuming 0, but im hoping for the best
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:04 AM - jbigler1986: probably not
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:04 AM - JeffTheMess: if its for parts they will automatically send you to the website
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:04 AM - nonmindo: need injection molded end for the back of the bed and a new gt2 belt
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:05 AM - nonmindo: wait, so they send you to the "parts request" page?
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:05 AM - JeffTheMess: yup
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:05 AM - jbigler1986: what happened to the belt?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:05 AM - JeffTheMess: i know because ive done it too MANY times
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:06 AM - nonmindo: dunno, was having extruder issues, found out it was a shitty hobbed bolt, got that fixed today, then my part shifted on y, si i was taking the apt that been holding the glas on to the carriage since the magnets came un epoxy'd, when io removed trhe tape the injection molded carriage end broke off at the rod, then i found what was causing the carriaged to "bump" on move, the belt stretched
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:07 AM - nonmindo: tape off* instead of apt*
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:07 AM - nonmindo: does anyone know if they offer parts replacement for free on refurb units?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:08 AM - nonmindo: it was factory refurb, sold by their ebay store, came all sealed up like it was new, but had some scuffs on the housing
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:08 AM - JeffTheMess: free? robo doesn't know the meaning of free
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:08 AM - JeffTheMess: when did you buy it?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:09 AM - nonmindo: well i know for the regular printer is said it comes with free parts replacments for a year
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:09 AM - nonmindo: july
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:09 AM - nonmindo: 29
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:09 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah you should be fine then you get 6 month warranty
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:09 AM - jbigler1986: you should be able to get a new belt and y clip
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:09 AM - nonmindo: even with refurb?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:10 AM - nonmindo: i dont need the y clip, thats fine, its just the belt and the whole back bracket that the rods fit into
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:10 AM - jbigler1986: you can make that tighter
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:10 AM - jbigler1986: simply take the y clip off and adjust the belt
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:10 AM - JeffTheMess: http://robo3d.com/warranty/ I think you should be able to
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:11 AM - nonmindo: coo, jb i cant just adjust it, it stretched at the part that run=s through the pullys
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:11 AM - nonmindo: sec, ill get pics
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:15 AM - nonmindo: So here is the old(top) and new(bottom) hobbed bolt
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:15 AM - nonmindo: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dr0ckb1wikq0q9t/20151008_035514.jpg?dl=0
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:16 AM - nonmindo: Here's what the gt2 looks like

    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:16 AM - JeffTheMess: wow
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:18 AM - nonmindo: And the part of the bed that broke, it literally just fell apart in my hand, no force was ever applied to it
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:18 AM - nonmindo: https://www.dropbox.com/s/1yhj86o5ltnhnpv/received_10153665756976499.jpeg?dl=0

Oct 8, 2015 at 6:20 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah just go to the request part page from there you will put in the date you bought the robo, then they will send you an invoice
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:21 AM - nonmindo: do they make you pay shipping?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:21 AM - nonmindo: right now im super tight on funds
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:21 AM - nonmindo: just got a maker space
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:22 AM - JeffTheMess: nope you dont pay if your within the 6 months
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:22 AM - nonmindo: coo
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:22 AM - nonmindo: i'll give it a shot, im honestly not expecting them to warranty a refurb, but they DID stick a new "24/7 support" sticker on the box
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:23 AM - nonmindo: here are some pics of my new maker space a friend and i are renting out....
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:23 AM - NFOsec: refurbs would be typically bound by a shorter period warranty but still one nonetheless.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:23 AM - JeffTheMess: hey the terms don't say anything about refurb or new so they got themselves stuck by doing both
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:23 AM - NFOsec: the idea of a refurb is to bring it to manufacturer's specifications for "as new" or pretty damn close.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:23 AM - nonmindo: true true
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:24 AM - NFOsec: otherwise it would be sold as used.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:24 AM - NFOsec: so you'll have an easy case on coverage.

Oct 8, 2015 at 6:26 AM - JeffTheMess: nfo you ever used brushless gimbal motors?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:27 AM - nonmindo: yea, i figure even if the refurb terms are shorter, they are usually 90 days, which im still within.... ill request parts and let yall know what they say
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:28 AM - jbigler1986: call their office at like 9 PST and ask to talk to Jerry
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:28 AM - NFOsec: they'll obligh, you're a good repeat warranty customer.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:28 AM - NFOsec: <snicker>
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:29 AM - jbigler1986: morning NFO

Oct 8, 2015 at 6:29 AM - NFOsec: continue to do so.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:29 AM - NFOsec: morning jb.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:29 AM - jbigler1986: Jerry is the most helpful person there
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:29 AM - JeffTheMess: ^

Oct 8, 2015 at 6:30 AM - NFOsec: damn right.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:31 AM - NFOsec: the cows are actually happier here becauase they don't get tortured with vegan diets, strange laws, and water shortages.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:31 AM - jbigler1986: just fatten them up
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:32 AM - NFOsec: My favorite of all times was about 5 years ago I had a business trip to the L.A. area (Camarillo) and stopped at a decent restaurant -- I asked if they had root beer -- the waitress said "is that like Dr. Pepper?"
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:32 AM - jbigler1986: I have a buddy that lives in Milwaukee (probably screwed that up)
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:32 AM - jbigler1986: root beer is the bomb
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:32 AM - NFOsec: your buddy screwed up Milwaukee? Well, it's about time someone admitted it.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:32 AM - NFOsec: the best is Sprechers.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:33 AM - jbigler1986: I have a kit to brew some. I will do it someday
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:33 AM - nonmindo: so, their new "contact us" for part request doesnt afford the option to select purchase date or what part you need, just put name, then emaiol, then message, but it's been sent off.... i'll call them up today when i wake up.... just sad, doubt ill be printing pumpkins before halloween now
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:33 AM - NFOsec: bvecause they would evaluate it against warranty first probably.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:33 AM - NFOsec: I'd call after submitting a ticket.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:33 AM - jbigler1986: I don't drink coke (soda, pop, whatever you want to call it) very often. When I do it's usually root beer
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:34 AM - NFOsec: why print pumpkins when you could laser them?
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:34 AM - nonmindo: because i dont have a laser!!!!
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:34 AM - NFOsec: in fact, why don't we all submit a ticket?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:34 AM - nonmindo: but its on the list for the maker space, engraver/cutter,filament recycler and such
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:34 AM - jbigler1986: tell them we need a laser replacement hotend?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:34 AM - Bill Monroe: why laser them when you can hit with a 12 guage slug?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:34 AM - NFOsec: yeah, rootbeer is pretty much it, but not just any, only Sprechers. healthier and more natural, and definitely less sugar.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:35 AM - NFOsec: why hit them with a 12 gauge slug when you could CNC route them?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:35 AM - nonmindo: this shourbox is our of control thismorning....lasers and rootbeer toopics at the same time!
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:35 AM - nonmindo: can you laser a rootbeer?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:35 AM - NFOsec: lions, tigers, bears, OH MY!
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:35 AM - Bill Monroe: cuz the CNC doesnt make that satiflying boom
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:35 AM - daniel871: I wonder if I could finangle the current carriage/wade extruder out of them.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:35 AM - jbigler1986: ok i'm sure we can get a cnc to make a loud boom
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:35 AM - NFOsec: Morning Mr. Bill
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:36 AM - Bill Monroe: nfo
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:36 AM - nonmindo: daniel, is it different than the r1?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:36 AM - daniel871: Depends on how big the CNC is and how powerful the motors on it are.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:36 AM - jbigler1986: not really. just the quick release
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:36 AM - daniel871: Slam into an endstop at full rapid traverse.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:36 AM - NFOsec: Bill: you're a person of mass extrusion experience, have you dabbled or ventured deeply in the nylons, semi-flex, flex filaments with your RoboMonroe3D?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:36 AM - daniel871: (The hard limit stop, not the switch)
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:37 AM - jbigler1986: endstops? who needs those
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:37 AM - nonmindo: i dont understand the quick release, lol...im able to just pull back the little door with the existing screws/springs and release tension on the filament
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:37 AM - daniel871: Run off the end of the X-axis and drop the boom on the floor.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:37 AM - Bill Monroe: nope.. have no need to extrude exotics so, never went there
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:37 AM - NFOsec: quick release refers to removing one screw on the mount and taking out the hot-end stuff.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:37 AM - nonmindo: ohhhh ok
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:37 AM - NFOsec: bill: ok. thanks.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:37 AM - jbigler1986: the quick release is for the hotend itsels
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:38 AM - jbigler1986: damn you NFO
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:38 AM - nonmindo: i see i see, so you can have like 2 diff hot ends, one for regular and one for exotics that need like a hardned stainless nozzel
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:38 AM - daniel871: No.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:38 AM - Bill Monroe: well, I do bronzefill occasionally..
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:38 AM - daniel871: Well, maybe, depends on how you wired it in.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:38 AM - NFOsec: I started using semi-flex ninja-flex yesterday, did 30mm/sec with everything else normal, it got up to about 3/4" on Z when the filament started to wrap around and return upstream on the hobbed gear.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:39 AM - nonmindo: mines still all default with the jst sm connectors
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:39 AM - NFOsec: thats cool. the Aluminum filament isn't bad.,
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:39 AM - NFOsec: jb: damn who why what where and how?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:39 AM - daniel871: Yeah, NFO, that's why the v6 installation thread has the bit about drilling out the Wade extruder and running PTFE tube right up to where the hob will be.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:40 AM - NFOsec: yeah, but I'm not using v6, I'm stock(y)
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:40 AM - nonmindo: btw, since a bunch of you smart ones are here right now, would you recommend wiring the e3d direct to the board or would it be fine to use the same current setupo with the jst plugs?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:40 AM - daniel871: Use the same plugs if you can.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:40 AM - NFOsec: so running PTFE tubing from hot end up to hobbed gear...
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:41 AM - NFOsec: mmm I'd rather go brass. you know the old saying, if you don't go brass, you're just an ass.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:41 AM - nonmindo: ok coo, i bought some jst sm terminations so i could keep all my mods easily disconnectable
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:41 AM - daniel871: That's basically the way to go nonmindo, that way if you don't like it it's easier to switch back without having to redo all the wiring from the board.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:41 AM - NFOsec: nom: ugh, that hurt my brain - don't know answer.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:42 AM - NFOsec: yeah, then there is always boxing up the unit, aending it back to the manufacturer/company with a note stating you don't deserve it.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:42 AM - nonmindo: lol
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:42 AM - jbigler1986: yeah brass tube will work too NFO
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:42 AM - jbigler1986: if not using a v6
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:43 AM - daniel871: What, just drill out the Wade and embed the brass tube in it so it butts up against the hexagon inlet?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:44 AM - nonmindo: why not just use the ptfe tube?
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:44 AM - jbigler1986: pretty much daniel
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:44 AM - daniel871: Brass would be easier to cut to fit up against the gear properly, probably.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:44 AM - jbigler1986: although i would thread part of the tube so you can thread it into the filament slot
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:45 AM - daniel871: Drill a slight interference fit and spin-weld it.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:45 AM - daniel871: :p
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:45 AM - nonmindo: this all seems like overkill lol
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:46 AM - jbigler1986: that's how we do things around here

Oct 8, 2015 at 6:46 AM - daniel871: I wish I could nail down what is causing my PLA to strip out in the hercustruder properly other than it just being a very soft filament.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:46 AM - NFOsec: non: you're right. it's just better to get a new configuration altogether. LOL.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:47 AM - NFOsec: all I'd need to know is how much distance there is between the hotend and the hob and I can cut down some of my spare Micron3DP hot ends which have a full length brass tube attached to them.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:47 AM - jbigler1986: daniel I feel your pain
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:48 AM - daniel871: Ran fine for about four hours last night before stripping
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:48 AM - nonmindo: lol i dont mind, its nice seeing you guys come up with solutions for things that dont nessecarily need them, at first glance..... i've been taking the most logical mods from all the robo mods ive seen and been incorporating them into mine
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:48 AM - NFOsec: what do you mean daniel? stripping out?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:48 AM - daniel871: Started off a little shaky, then when I sped it up it smoothed out and was running great.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:48 AM - NFOsec: as in chewing it up?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:48 AM - daniel871: The drive gear tears the filament and stops pushing it thru.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:48 AM - daniel871: Yeah.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:48 AM - NFOsec: what kind of tension do you have on the filament?
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:49 AM - daniel871: Just enough to grip it so I can't easily pull it by hand after feeding it up to the hotend and releasing the latch.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:50 AM - nonmindo: alrighty guys, thanks for all the help as usual, im going to get some rest, i'll hop in later and update on my reply with robo
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:50 AM - daniel871: Maybe half of the effective compression of the springs on the tension screws.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:50 AM - NFOsec: non: good luck, just remember the box up solution if need be.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:51 AM - daniel871: Not sure of the actual forces that would put on the filament, I'd have to look up the spring data.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:52 AM - jbigler1986: just get the bond tech
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:53 AM - daniel871: I'm not spending $300 on extruders.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:53 AM - jbigler1986: i have seriously considered it just to save the headache
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:53 AM - jbigler1986: it's like $80 for just the hardware
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:53 AM - daniel871: Especially as I have no real guarantee that it would even work.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:53 AM - jbigler1986: no need to get the full kit
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:54 AM - jbigler1986: since you have geared steppers and can just print the case
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:54 AM - jbigler1986: ask MK about it when he gets on. I don't think his has slipped once
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:56 AM - daniel871: $160 on extruders, then, since I'd need two.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:56 AM - jbigler1986: yeah somewhere around there
    Oct 8, 2015 at 6:56 AM - jbigler1986: pricey i know
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:57 AM - jbigler1986: saving the headache at this point is almost worth it
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:58 AM - daniel871: I do like the idea of something that can just brute-force the filament thru, but I'm not sure how it won't just strip out the same way the hercustruder does.
Oct 8, 2015 at 6:59 AM - daniel871: I suspect thick spots in the filament that jam in the bowden tube, and don't know how the bondtech would overcome that.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:00 AM - jbigler1986: it will force it through where as the current drive gears just strip it
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:00 AM - NFOsec: why would you have to spend $300?
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:00 AM - daniel871: That's if I bought the motors as well.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:01 AM - daniel871: Thing is, I don't know what shank that kit expects on the motor.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:01 AM - NFOsec: I've heard that bowden feeding with specific filaments is a pain, especially flex/semi-flex/exotics.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:01 AM - jbigler1986:
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:02 AM - NFOsec: nice pull. you could have a child pulling on it.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:02 AM - daniel871: I'm having trouble with just PLfnA right now.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:02 AM - daniel871: It'll run great for a while, then fuck up and strip for no discernible reason.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:03 AM - jbigler1986:
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:05 AM - daniel871: Sent them an email on their contact page asking what shank diameter is needed for their drive gears.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:06 AM - JeffTheMess: that bond tech video..can't you just make that yourself?
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:07 AM - daniel871: Depends on whether your printer is reliably printing as it is.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:07 AM - daniel871: For the housing/plastic bits.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:08 AM - JeffTheMess: yeah even using two hobbed bolts would do,
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:09 AM - jbigler1986: yep. you need the drives gears to have gears on them so that when the main one turns it turns the other one too
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:09 AM - JeffTheMess: seems simply enough
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:10 AM - NFOsec: daniel: per chance filament got bundled in the spool causing stress when pulling through?
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:11 AM - jbigler1986: printrbot has something similar. their drive gears dont have enough teeth though
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:11 AM - daniel871: Nope. The spool end never gets enough slack in it for that.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:12 AM - daniel871: I suppose I could un-spool and re-spool the filament to make sure there aren't any tangles, but that's a bitch of a job to do and if you have to do that the filament is too expensive.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:13 AM - daniel871: (also the spool isn't tangled when the filament strips)
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:13 AM - jbigler1986: [IMG]
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:13 AM - NFOsec: then skip that jack.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:14 AM - jbigler1986: daniel looks like 8mm bore
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:15 AM - daniel871: Looks like I'll need to find a sleeve to go from 6mm to 8mm then.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:16 AM - daniel871: If I go that route.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:16 AM - daniel871: Think I'll just put the PLA aside and try re-slicing and printing in a tougher filament though.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:17 AM - jbigler1986: just go to an Ace hardware and get a aluminum spacer with the OD 8mm. ID can be like 5mm and drill it out
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:17 AM - NFOsec: the whole concept of an extrusion system and hot end that has to be changed for all kinds of filaments is a little excessive in my mind, only because I've had luck with a platform that never had those problems. Since I can't use that on the Robo without the cover benig off, I'm just going to have to evaluate options. I NEED the nylon 618 and semi-flex to work, a major part of the applications I'm doing.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:17 AM - jbigler1986: then drill a hole in it for the set screw
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:18 AM - NFOsec: daniel: PLA is "tough". I'd hate to think it wasn't tough enough.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:18 AM - NFOsec: cheap filament maybe?
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:19 AM - jbigler1986: i got a stell spacer too. That thing is a major bitch to drill out. I said screw it
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:19 AM - jbigler1986: steel
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:22 AM - daniel871: Yeah, NFO. It's weird. I had great luck with T-glase and PET+ and ABS in the past, but now that I'm trying to use up my PLA stock I can't get anything to work for very long.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:23 AM - daniel871: And yes, I put a fresh nozzle on before starting PLA this week.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:24 AM - NFOsec: well, first things are to try to slow down prints/raise temperatures if you've been doing the lower ones in the past.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:25 AM - NFOsec: in my opinion, my filaments have been "aging" and their characteristics have subtly changed, enough that I sometimes have to adjust the temp or speed to accomodate.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:25 AM - daniel871: http://www.mcmaster.com/#93657a047/=za0rlv
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:25 AM - NFOsec: however, the simple issue of something extruding and coming back is horrible.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:26 AM - jbigler1986: that would be fine too daniel. it was literally like 70 cents at ace though
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:26 AM - NFOsec: so, for a stock robo, just what size PTFE tubing or brass tubing is needed -- is it anchored in any way once it goes in or is it a snug fit thing?
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:26 AM - jbigler1986: 2mm ID and 4mm OD
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:26 AM - daniel871: Never used one in a stock robo, but the PTFE tubing the e3d uses is 4mm OD x 2mm ID I think.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:27 AM - Mike Glass: Morning
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:27 AM - daniel871: No Ace hardware nearby, would have to order it from them online.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:29 AM - daniel871: Boom. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00137PDVU/ref=biss_dp_t_asn
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:29 AM - NFOsec: HomeyDepotey, LowesLife, Menardions, TruelyValued, etc.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:30 AM - jbigler1986: doubt they carry anything that will do
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:30 AM - Mike Glass: umm dont you have a 3d printer that prints shit like that?
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:30 AM - daniel871: Not one that works currently.
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:31 AM - daniel871: Also it's for the 3d printer, spacer for the shaft on the stepper to the drive gear.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:34 AM - jbigler1986: morning MK
    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:35 AM - daniel871: M*G*

    Oct 8, 2015 at 7:35 AM - jbigler1986: nevermind
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:35 AM - jbigler1986: MG did MK buy a ramps for his cnc yet?

Oct 8, 2015 at 7:44 AM - jbigler1986: what is this design you speak of
Oct 8, 2015 at 7:45 AM - NFOsec: hold on, I'll show the picture.

Oct 8, 2015 at 8:05 AM - NFOsec: which one?
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:05 AM - daniel871: The one about eating what's there or starving.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:05 AM - NFOsec: oh yeah. easy enough to do.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:06 AM - NFOsec: so, is the hot-end secured in any way other than just being threaded in?
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:06 AM - NFOsec: I know some I've seen out there use a side-screw to hold it in place in addition to being threaded.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:06 AM - daniel871: This is pretty great.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:07 AM - Mike Glass: just the 2 screws on the side hold the hotend NFO.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:07 AM - Mike Glass: wait yours is quick release model though. no screws.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:10 AM - Mike Kelly: morning
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:11 AM - NFOsec: so it's unscrew the nozzle then (when hot).
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:11 AM - daniel871: Morning MK.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:11 AM - daniel871: Question about Bondtech.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:11 AM - NFOsec: daniel: yeah, they claimed a significant number of trucks going thru that area.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:12 AM - daniel871: Ever have it strip out/slip on filament?
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:12 AM - NFOsec: morning mike.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:14 AM - Mike Kelly: never
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:14 AM - Mike Kelly: the motor torque stalls first
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:14 AM - jbigler1986: I hope people got the insurance on those rental trucks
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:15 AM - daniel871: Also all those RVs that lost their AC units.

Oct 8, 2015 at 8:16 AM - Mike Glass: NFO I see what your saying now, the nozzle replacement not the hotend..lol
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:16 AM - Mike Glass: yes there is a little wrench that fits on the neck just above the heatblock.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:17 AM - Mike Glass: GM MK HIYCNC
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:17 AM - Mike Kelly: it's almost like they need a flashing sign that says low bridge
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:18 AM - daniel871: They have one.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:18 AM - Mike Kelly: that's the joke
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:18 AM - daniel871: Well, the sign they keep hitting has flashing lights on either side of it.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:18 AM - Mike Kelly: daniel if you're considering bondtech i'd recommend waiting for a bit
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:20 AM - jbigler1986: MK have you installed the ramps yet on the cnc?
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:20 AM - Mike Kelly: nope that'll happen hopefully at lunch
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:22 AM - jbigler1986: i honestly wouldn't go with ramps and marlin.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:22 AM - NFOsec: MK: I've been scouring the forums, what size PTFE would I need for the R1++?
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:22 AM - jbigler1986: Like no post processors out there for it
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:23 AM - jbigler1986: so you are very limited on what cam software you can use
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:23 AM - Mike Kelly: to do what now?
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:23 AM - Mike Glass: You can use any cam software
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:23 AM - jbigler1986: if you want to edit the crap out of gcode
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:23 AM - Mike Kelly: repetier?
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:23 AM - daniel871: The firmware/post is the tricky part.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:24 AM - jbigler1986: or edit a post processor for marlin
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:24 AM - Mike Glass: and how many do you really need to use? Keep it simple, dont overthink it.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:24 AM - jbigler1986: there is a grbl for ramps 1.4 i believe
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:25 AM - jbigler1986: then you can pick tinyg as the post processor which most cams have as an option
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:25 AM - daniel871: Holy fn ouch. http://i.imgur.com/PF11Ohq.gif
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:26 AM - Mike Kelly: stay away from the feets
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:27 AM - Mike Glass: or horses in general
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:27 AM - NFOsec: damnass.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:27 AM - daniel871: Yeah, don't approach from that side sheesh.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:28 AM - Mike Kelly: does anyone happen to know anything about shipping very large objects across the ocean
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:29 AM - NFOsec: MK: well, you talking shipping as in by boat or air?
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:29 AM - NFOsec: how large?
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:29 AM - Mike Kelly: 40+ ft
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:30 AM - NFOsec: dhl/ups have large object shipping, but if it was something like that, you can contact a company like the one that shipped/received my "laser", their specialty is intercontental shipping logistics.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:30 AM - daniel871: Expect it to take 3-6 months.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:30 AM - Mike Glass: How many tons?
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:30 AM - NFOsec: not necesarily daniel.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:30 AM - daniel871: If you ship by boat internationally, yes.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:31 AM - Mike Kelly: i'm more curious if i need to package it inside a shipping container or if there's other ways
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:31 AM - daniel871: Customs are mother fuckers about long crates.
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:31 AM - NFOsec: well, contingent on whether it's on grandpa's sailboat or a large container carrier.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:31 AM - NFOsec: I'd say expect 45-60 top end.
    Oct 8, 2015 at 8:31 AM - Mike Kelly: a 40' high cube
Oct 8, 2015 at 8:31 AM - daniel871: Also depends on the carrier company.
