I recently installed this top mounted offset spool holder in order to reduce the force needed to pull the filament off the spool. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:690658

The filament unwinds so easily that it sometimes wraps over itself on the spool and then get stuck.

What happens then is that the Z-axis/extruder lift it self off the autoleveling nuts and goes up to the top. The print get pretty ugly and useless due to this.

I think it is the same problem that user Marcomateus (http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?members/marcomateus.5630/) reported here: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/z-axis-skipping.6056/#post-51013

Depending on the spooling quality of the filament this happens quite often to me. Yesterday the extruder actually got stuck at the top and the Z-bearings almost jumped off the smooth rods.

Does anyone happen to know a solution to avoid this or make the printer stop if the extruder start lifting itself?

Is it perhaps possible to get an automatic emergency stop on z-axis liftoff?

(I have an upgraded Kickstarter edition with heated bed, new Y-rods, imperial Z-screws, a XXL reprap discount display and a octopi print server)

    Regards, Daniel
