R1+ Auto-Level not really accurate

    I would think if endstops are set correctly there would be little chance of a big crash into the bed. You could just weight down the X axis and it would work essentially the same as a anti-backlash nut and fixing the nuts in place. The extra weight would not directly impact the X axis moving off the brass lead screw nuts, and since Z is so slow the weight would not negatively impact printing speed at all.

    @WheresWaldo .......Well said, If I fix the brass nuts, maybe via set screws to the x axis's idler arms that will tighten things up a bit, relying on the IR for z end-stop, just scares me a little.........maybe if I install a microswitch limit logically wired 'OR' in conjunction with the IR about 1mm further. That would be an emergency z min limit.
