How to get STL Thumbnail View using Windows Explorer

    I tried registering the four main DLL files by themselves. Even putting them in different locations. Could not get them to register. Although you can see that they are registered when you install the app. I just didn't want the app. I gave up as I have too many other things I need to get done.

    Well....that's just wrong. Haha. Why would it be machine specific and not OS specific? Could it be a video card compatibility issue or other driver? I'm sorry to hear it doesn't work on all machines.

    It is more a windows/dll registration issue I imagine.
    Not all flavors of Windows 10, 64-bit are the same. Different drivers, etc.

    So on some machines it is simply not correctly registering and it is a silent failure since we do not know the inter dependencies.

    One thing I notice is that other filetypes not supported by a previewer generate a "No preview available" message in the preview pane, but STLs do not show this message; the preview pane is completely empty. Seems maybe the OS knows that a handler is present but the dll isn't working?

    It's not a video card issue because the previews were working on my machine under Win7 prior to "upgrading" to Win10.

    In my case they show the program icon, just not a preview.

    screenshot? Just curious. And Julia, I was wondering if it was some sort of driver version for windows 10 for the hardware on your machine that didn't allow something to work. It was a shot in the dark, because I don't have the code for the dlls. I wonder if an email to K-Studio support would yield an answer to this issue.

    I will continue to dig further and get some screen caps tomorrow when I'm back at the machine. I'm hesitant to bother Kevvox with this since I'm not a user of their $20,000 printer :)

    I went ahead and emailed them. They can always tell me to gent bent. :) Of course, maybe they will entertain my inquiry. Can't find out unless you try.

    I know this worked when you had windows 7 installed, but found this.

    The minimum system requirements to run K-Studio are:
    OS: Windows 7, Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 32 & 64 bits.
    CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz, Core i3, AMD Athlon 64 X2 or better.
    VIDEO: 1GB of VRAM (Video Memory) ‘NVidia GeForce’ or ‘ATI/AMD Radeon’.
    MEMORY: 2 GB of RAM.
    HARD-DISK: 500 MB.

    When I first posted here I think I was getting the generic icon in the preview pane, but now after mucking about it seems worse - the preview pane is just blank. Working OK for other filetypes.

    Windows 10 is too good of an improvement for me to want to get back STL preview.

    Glad you are happy with it though :)

    If you love watching that spinn-y Wait cursor go 'round, having unidentifiable items in "Quick Access", and squinting trying to figure out which part of the scroll bar to grab, I guess it's the bee's knees! To each their own :)
