Glad my upgrade notes worked well for you. Now if I could only get Robo3D to send me a test R2.

Can someone give me a link that explains the reason behind this upgrade ? What's wrong with the original screw ?
    Thank you

This was a situation that due to the couplers and threading caused artifacts on the Z axis. For some it was worse than others.
The leadscrews remove this problem, the R1+ does not have the issue (only the earlier models).

Thank you for your help. As you may have noticed I am struggling with my printer (one of the first). I haven't used it for a year (other priorities) and now I am using it again but a lot of my prints go directly into the garbage.
So next step for me is to implement the auto bed leveling (probably going with the inductive sensor because my bed is not levelled.
Then next I will have a look a this story of Lead screw. To be honest 100$ seems expensive. I already purchased the upgraded bed, not sure the upgarded Z axis costs 100$.
    Thanks again

    There are alternatives.

However the effects of the Z axis issues are not major. I doubt that is what is causing your prints to fail, unless you have a need for very high detail on the finished part.

Bed leveling will help a lot, just make sure you manually level the X axis (paper leveling on the X will make the autoleveling work really well).

I have two beta (kickstarter) units. Both work really well and I get very good prints. I have one setup for high detail (it has the Z axis upgrade) and anther for much larger, less detailed prints (prints really fast with a 0.8 volcano). Both have been converted to add autoleveling.

With an Original beta you just have the 4 screws at the bed corners. I would suggest you make these spring loaded since it makes doing a manual leveling so much easier (just add a small spring between the bed and the rail on the shaft of the screws and toss the solid plastic spacer).

There is a lot of information here on the forum about successfully doing manual bed leveling for the beta, but it is buried a ways back (chronologically) since the newer printers all have auto leveling.

It is pretty easy and cheap to add autoleveling so I highly recommend that.
