I’ve had my R1+ for 4 months now, and everything has been working fine. I haven’t noticed anything wrong with it until a few weeks ago. My prints will print normally for the first few layers, and then shift on either the X or Y axis. Usually this is accompanied by an almost crashing noise. In addition to that, I have had some instances where the printer will stop mid print, and sometimes resume after a minute or two.

I have tried tensioning the belts, tightening the pulleys, and greasing up the axes, all with no luck. All of the electronics seem to be intact, and the g-code shows no temperature errors when the printer stops. I’m unsure on what to try next. I have attached a picture of some of the shifted parts. Still under warranty I'd try giving Robo tech support a ring.

The skipping/slipping is something sticking or getting blocked. I assume you made sure no wire bundles are getting in the way that would cause a catch-and-release on the moving parts. The crashing noise is probably the belt being forced to skip as the stepper tries to drive it against an obstruction.

It could be a stepper driver failing, but those usually are more consistent. Rather than say once per print you would see it stairstepping the axis (multiple skips as the stepper loses steps).

Stop and resume is usually a USB communications issue so try printing from the SD card to see if that stops it. If it were a temperature error or other Gcode error the print would not resume... just stop with the error.

One last thing that could cause the skip would be bad bearings. If you can't smoothly move the X/Y axis by hand that would be an indication of that. I would expect it to make a lot of noise as well as multiple skips (rather than one) which is why I omitted it initially.

OK thanks. I won't be able to try printing from the sd card, as I don't have access to a microSD at the moment and i don't have an LCD screen for the printer. The axes do move smoothly. I do see the stair-stepping when I let the print continue after the first shift. Measuring the part in the picture below, I saw a consistent height that it would shift over.

Then that is likely the stepper driver cards:

If the movement manually was sticky I'd guess bearings, but since that is fine I'll go with the stepper drivers.
Make sure the heatsinks didn't fall off :) They should have those on them.
Shipping can knock things about however and some might have gotten knocked off.
A little SuperGlue will work to put them back.

If the heatsinks are still on there then likely a bad stepper driver card.

The R1+ has a normal sd card slot so you can use the sd card that came with printer.

They probably found how how easy it is to lose that micro into the printer lol

So I've checked the RAMPS board, and all of the heat sinks are intact. I also printed from the SD card, and it still skipped. I'm going to try and replace the X-axis bearings, and see what happens.

Sanity check the X drive belt is tight. I know you said you checked this.
It is hard to describe the tension, but it should be tight enough to strum...

So I added a few more tenisoners to the belt, and I'm currently printing something. I am now able to post a video of it actually messing up.
