No green light on the power supply.

    Tried two power cables.
Tested the fuse by the plug on the back and its ok.
Tested the fuse on the power supply, and its good.
Confirmed power was getting to the power supply with multi-meter.

When I opened the power supply I saw this:

Is this a problem? I tried gently poking at it and its rubbery.

Also, what else can I check ?

Yes! Do not use the PSU again! My Robo R1 + died a few weeks ago and afterwards I took apart the power unit and saw the exact same thing! The replacement I was sent was underpowered. You too do need a whole new PSU first and then have to evaluate what else might be damaged. I'm going through this as well right now. I feel your pain.

Did the new power supply have anything like that inside of it?

Also, do you know what it is?

Oh no no the one that died had exploded like yours but the replacement PSU no but it's not putting out 12v as t should. Some reason it can only dial up to 10.4-6

New 12v 30 amp power supplies are cheap on Amazon or most other resellers. Hit up robo if under warranty then personally I'd buy one for the parts shelf. If voltage at the end of the cable is just junk the power supply. With how ceap they are its not worth trying to fix in my opinion

@Thomas you can't tune it up with the pot? The cheap ones we have typically can be dialed up to something like 13v

Mine is under warranty and the replacement I got is a dud. Now I'm waiting to hear about getting yet another. If not for the warranty I would just order off the internet yes

I think I'd order one and then put the new new warranty one on the shelf :). I hate being down so warranty is good for spare parts for me but I don't wait for the snail mail ( I'm in Illinois replacement parts took over a week for me to get in after they ship )

I got one day shipping from Amazon, so I'll have a replacement here tomorrow.

I'm mostly just curious and don't like not knowing WHY something broke. I didn't even use the printer that much.

China sourced power supply. Most work some just aren't great.

I've lost one power supply in the year and have 2 on the shelf now :) knowing the general rule if ones on the shelf I won't end up needing it lol.

I have one now, I can't remember if I had one before I moved or not. Previous roommates kitty chewed on some wires so its been out of commission a while.

Everything else is hooked up now, was hoping I'd be done tinkering... guess not :D

Oh Hazrd that white stuff is a non conductive fast setting adhesive used to add support and rigidity to larger components

Thanks for the information, thats what I was thinking it was for.

I looked inside a known working power supply and it globs of that inside of it too. That PSU is too small for this printer though.

The big green rings wrapped together is either a "choke" or a capacitor. it's like an inductor used to filter input power instead of using a bunch of resistors: to regulate voltage

[IMG] See here is the pic of my original PSU. Looks the same. Do not reuse it. Mine was actually smoking from that white material.

Well my PSU had been running like a champ with no problems since I got it back in January. I wasn't using the printer every day but a few days a week. Although on those days when i did run the printer it was for very long multi hour prints. It did great . I was pleased overall. Funny thing is it was a small piece it was working on and had completely finished when it died right at the end, lol. Lucky there! When it's time it's time I guess. Anyone have a link to get a reliable/ reputable back up as Geof recommends?
