It finally happened my borosilicate is chipping. It's now to an unusable point. It looks like alot of people are moving to PEI from this and other threads. I'm hesitate to use a thin layer of PEI because of the chips creating low spots. I was wondering if anyone had tried just replacing the glass with PEI using a 1/4 in sheet?

If you haven't, can you tell me if you filled in the glass (epoxy or something else) before putting the PEI down on top of it?

I ended up order a sheet of aluminum, I'm going to put a thin layer of PEI on it. I also ordered a custom heat pad from china. We will see how it to turns out.

I may take your suggestion for the layer of glass to repair the old glass for a backup.

Some people use acetone and a couple hours of carefully pealing back to remove the heater. I haven't tried it.

I had a 1/8x10x15 piece of window glass cut for me at Lowe's and clipped it directly to the chipped borosilicate glass with small sheet metal and wire paper clips. I then removed the wire handles from the clips and use the new surface exactly like the original with no issues so far. Total cost, about four dollars.

Good call. Any sheet of thin glass will work fine, the only effect would be a slight increase in bed heatup time. Plus, the plates you put on top become disposable :) If you damage them it is a cheap replacement.

Would a piece of Lexon on top of the glass work? I have tried 3 types of hair spray, and cant get my design to stick

On the window glass I use Suave Extreme Hold and the build is very secure. I have no experience with plastics.
