Have you adjusted the z offset?

Make sure the two switches are positioned so that they trigger at close to the same time. They should not be very different in terms of where they trigger.

I use one of those picture frames levels and adjust the leadscrews until level.

Measuring is not that important. Moving the Z axis up/down and watching when they trigger is.
They may not be positioned the same in the mounts and on the carriage which would then make then trigger further apart.

There are screws on the mounts you can loosen to adjust them up/down as needed.

If they are triggering correctly then you might want to trace the wires back to the RAMPS and make sure there are no loose connectors.

Wheb mine act flaky i do as mark said. I loosen the bolts slide the bolt on the brass nut until its touching the z carriage, then lock them in place and do a paper leveling.... with how much that piece of paper is come in handy ive considered sending it away for calibration :)

The only difference when printing versus manually extruding is that the nozzle maybe too close to the bed. That generates too much back pressure and the filamaent will grindout at the hobb.

Why ABS only ??? It is a harder filament and unless you are stupid hot it is a bit more work to get through the nozzle.
