Hello all. I just did the lead screw upgrade and the firmware upgrade but it isn't working. I think. it sounds like the lead screws are grinding. with the brackets now attaching the lead screw nut to the x carriage, it feels like it is binding where it use to float. is the new screw motors suppose to have a very mechanical sound?

Maybe they are just noisy and I'm not use to hearing them like that. I bought the kit from robo3D

Another question, I did the firmware upgrade but then reformatted my computer. Does the firmware stay on the board or on a computer file?

The arduino board holds your firmware. You should be ok.

Ok. There goes that theory. Can I wipe the arduino and reload? If so, how?

If they are grinding or crazy loud I'd call robo and ask for a replacement. My r1+ leadscrews are a little on the loud side. Make sure you lubricate the leadscrews.

I use 3 in one oil but I believe most users use a lithium grease.

3 in 1 oil will need applied much more often

That will work. Heck just about any lubricant will work.
I prefer lithium grease for the slower moving parts (the Z rods) and light machine oil for the faster moving parts (X and Y rods) but frankly, just about anything reasonable will work.

When you reload the firmware the arduino is effectively reformatted.
That wipes out your old code in there.
    It has no hard storage...

At this point , I'm not sure if it is or not. If I do the R1+ upgrade for the e3d volcano, I think I will be ok

When I open simplify3d, only the home buttons work. I can't jog the controls +- any direction.

Make sure their are no obstructions and the lead screw have no defects.
