3d Printing Pen

Hello everyone. Has anyone of you ever heard of a thing called 3D printing pen? I was surfing internet looking for presents, and I have found this interesting thing on EBay.

The idea is that it looks like a pen, but you can draw with it like with a 3D printer (up, down and etc). Has anyone had or have one? Is it worth trying? Please let me know what you think.

Those things are not very good. They only reason I would buy one would be to use it as a "welder" to weld parts together or repair parts. Other than that it's not very good.

 

Hay, there fun to play with. Yes they are hard to use because the thumb that is supporting the pen is also the 'trigger' that turns on the extruder. If you get one, get the cheapest one for most are basically the same. I got one to see what 3D forming of plastics was all about before jumping into an actual printer. I use ABS in mine. Some of the newer versions have a micro screen to adj. for PLA or ABS.
I guess if you played around with it long enough you could get something reasonable out of it. Here's some of my early tries. Hay I have to break down and get that R1!! Frank

When you have really creative hands, you can create creative stuff using 3D printing pen.

 

There are plenty of tutorials available on youtube to learn many beautiful object creating process.

 

I have even seen a guy who took a lego robotic kit and made a very basic 3d printer using the 3d pen as the extruder. It wasn't a high quality print or anything, but he showed some creativity building it. They are definitely more of an artist tool in my mind. Takes talent/skill to make something wonderful. A bit like an etch-a-sketch. Some Rembrandts out their can twirl those two little knobs and make works of art.
