to replace the extruder, it has to move to the top of the printer. currently is close to the print bed. I hope this makes sense.

Ah yes i understand. Are you using an lcd controller or print via usb ?

If usb you can turn on your printer, open your slicer and connect and there should be Z+ jog controls. Jog to where is a good space for you to work :)

On the R1+ I think there is an allen screw under the heater block that tightens it in place.
On the R1 there is a black rubber boot that holds thermistor up tight against the heater block.

@Geof will have more details on the R1+

Thats correct. A set screw under the thermistor near the nozzle, you break that loose, slide the thermistor out and disconnect the quick connect. To install reverse :)

By "extruder" I'm assuming you mean the whole carriage that holds the extruder and hot end so you can get under it?

@kapu007 in the shoutbox @Geof had an excellent point. Is the small RAMPS board cooling fan running and blowing onto the board? That could cause some issues with similar to this. Contacting Robo directly was a good idea as well.

Oh yeah...the things next to the flux capacitor. Just a couple taps of a wrench and good as new. haha!

Those actually are the two yellow squared fins on the board. It is possible to order some new ones and solder them in, but RAMPS boards are cheap enough to just get a new one, or two to have one as a spare.

I bought a thermistor and replaced it. still yet didn't work. Found out the board was the issue. I got a replacement in and when I change it out, found out the wiring from the PSU to the board had burn out. Replaced the psu and the board. Now the extruder will not get above 25.4. Selected preheat and waiting for 15 mins and no change. Any ideas will help. Thank you in advance.

Sounds like the heater isn't working. About 25c or so is room temp around here.
