what material would you use?

    I am going to make a prototype mold with my #d printer to be used in an injection printer. I am thinking of using the Taulman 618 Nylon since it has a high heat rating. What other option would you all suggest?

    Any kind of PC filament will likely work better than Nylon or Nylon blends

    PC=Polycarbonate

    Does it have a higher heat rating? What temp does it print at?

    About 260°C but what you need to know is the Tg (glass transition temperature) most filament MSDS will tell you what that is. PC has a much higer Tg than most all other filaments, somewhere around 150°C.

    BluPrint has Tg of 110C (if you don't need 150c) and is easier to print than PC.
    You have to decide what you need.

    Mark, any tricks to using BluPrint? I just ordered some for several heated bed experiments. Unfortunately I'm without a heated bed at the moment but do have some BuildTak handy.

    It doesn't really need as hot of a bed as they say on the Taulman page:

    Print bed =
    • Hot = Glass heated to 95C
    • Cold = Clean BuildTak or PEI heated to 90C
    I only use a 45c bed with it and get no issues. I suspect if you go with the buildtak it will be fine.

    Thanks, at the moment I have no heater on the bed. I have a heater I intended for a larger bed on the way but it will be too big for the stock configuration. So I'm hoping I can print out some new ends in BluPrint on my unheated bed to make my new heated bed. Talman's site could use some clearing up its pretty confusing at times.

    I don't beleive the bed heat is the problem with BuildTak. It is the heat of the nozzel as it does the 9 point auto leveling. 201 C will melt it where it touches. I purchased one sheet to test it out. Haven't received it yet.

    Heated nozzle will melt BuildTak when probing. I would suggest probing with nozzle cold and experiment to find the difference when heated (not much). Then you can add/subtract the heated difference to save your BuildTak. PEI has the same problem.
