I've gotten my E3D extruder assembled and installed, but I don't think I have the hot end fan in the right place. When I turned on the power the fan wasn't spinning and the E3D wiki says the fan is supposed to spin continuously. I can't tell from the picture in Mike Kelly's original post about the R1 where it's supposed to connect. Here is a picture of my board, can someone tell me where to connect it?

I'm sorry this isn't on that original E3D thread, I couldn't find it easily using Tapatalk. [IMG]

Also, what is PID auto tuning, and do I need to do it on the R1+ once I've installed this extruder?

    Thanks!

You have the r1+? If yes i think F0 is the spot your looking for. It looks like you have it plugged in there ?

I'm pretty sure I do have it plugged in there. But when I turned the printer on the fan didn't spin. And the E3D assembly wiki says this: "Fan should be wired directly to a 12v power supply and be constantly running. Do not connect to a "Fan" output of a controller board or similar, these are for fans that cool the printed object, not a hotend fan which needs to always be running."

Maybe you plugged it in backwards?
I always run mine straight to the 12v coming onto the RAMPS (the large green plug) but I don't have the R1+ RAMPS board either.
As long as that fan is on when the hotend is heating you are fine.

I just realized that I have my parts fan plugged into Fan0, and my hot end fan is plugged into Fan2+ next to the LED plugs and the RAMPS board cooling fan. Should I switch that up?

lol I was just typing that ( I had to go look) F0 is the part fan you can verify by turning on the fan in your slicer and if the hotend fan comes on then yes its swapped and your parts fan will be on all the time with power

So Geof, are you saying that I should have my parts fan in F0? Thanks!

Thanks Mark. So that means my parts fan is connected where it needs to be. When I get home I'll have to check whether I indeed installed the hot end fan switch upside down. The cords that came from Printer Solid were a different type than what came with the original ROBO; they didn't click in, but were just a black connector with two holes (you can see the difference I'm trying to describe in the lower left hand of my original picture). I may need to flip it?

yes I'd guess its got flipped (red goes to positive on the board) it looks reversed in the pictures (reversed polarity normally doesn't hurt them, but it wont run)

Thanks Geof. I may have made the same mistake on my thermistor.

Oh, ok. Man, if I would have known how much electronics I'd need to enjoy this hobby I may never have gotten started. But I'm glad I did and I'm thankful for this forum.
