i recently have come across a problem with abs filament. im printing at 230c and it has been working for a while now but for some reason, it keeps melting inside the extruder and causes the extruder to jam

Heat creep. Usually the fan on the hotend not running full speed (or not running at all)

Probably worth investing a few bucks into a replacement, that is almost always the culprit with heat creep.

could it be because the thermistor is not pressed up against the heater block and isn't accurately reading the temp? like it thinks its 235 when in reality its like 295? because the hot end i got relies on the silicone sleeve to hold the thermistor in place

Sure, that is a possible explanation.
(I never did like that version of the hexagon -- it is a silly way to do things.)

If you remove the rubber boot/sleeve and use a few turns of kapton tape around the thermistor and the heatblock (so it can't move) you can then but the boot back on and life will be good.

ill try that and if not I got 2 more tricks up my sleeve. #1 is to cut horizontally into the fins to create some more surface area.
#2 is to attach another fan on the opposite side of the stock fan and to have it blow the opposite way so there's more air flowing.

The kapton tape will hold it. The original Robo used that on a j-head (MK style) that was only using kapton tape. It is pretty aggressive at holding stuff.
