I am planning on doing the dual fan upgrade and I have already printed the fan shrouds in pla. The instructions on thingiverse says they printed everything thing in pla so I assume that's ok. But I've also heard that parts closer to the hot end should be printed in abs. So I'm wondering if the fan mount should be printed in abs? Any thoughts/opinions? Thanks!

Your call. I have printed every part in PLA and other than wear on gears (when you are talking about geared extruders) PLA is fine. None of the hot parts are close enough to matter. If you worry about it then use something with a higher deflection temperature (and there are many other options than ABS). I have a GregsWade I printed out of PLA over a year ago that is still humming along fine.
