Auto Hotend Cooling Fan

I've been toying around with printing a new cooling shroud for my R2 but to be honest, I don't really have any heat creep issues. What I definitely want to do is see if it's possible to enable the auto cooling fan option for the hotend. I don't like the fact that the fan is always constantly on and at full power to boot (no pun intended).

However, I do NOT want to mess things up by trial and error; I don't have the experience with the firmware code for that. So my question is, does anyone know of a way to do this? I'm assuming I would need to define the extruder pin in the pins.h file, then enable E0_AUTO_FAN_PIN in the configuration_adv.h file. And possibly mess with other options.
