I have a beta Robo where the heater cables attach to the right of the bed. I've upgraded my y axis using the smooth rod upgrade by @tonycstech. This means the cables have to pass over the bearing housing on the right. I want to route the cables to the front of the bed and run them through the cable chain by @donhuevo. I'll be drilling a hole through my base plate for the cables to pass through and adding some high current connectors so I can remove the bed.

Question: should I just reposition the thermistor and resolder the heater wires so they are directed to the front instead of the side, OR is it possible/safe/advisable to peal off the heater, rotate it 90 degrees, and stick it back on and will it stick back on?

it's impossible to reposition the heater. Once you remove it that's it. I had the same problem upgrading to linear rails but Robo was nice enough to replace mine.

I'm also running don's cable chains.

That's what I expected. Guess I'm going with option 1. I'll post pics and instructions when I do it. Thanks Mike.

If your wires come unsoldered from the kapton heater it is VERY difficult to get them back on.

    So I gather you're suggesting I don't desolder them?

I have some silicon wire that I'm going to use for it's flexibility and heat resistance. Guess I'll just shape and tape the wires to get them to where I want. I'll reposition the thermistor though, I think.

I think you'll find the solder is more inclined to stick to the wire than the heater. Jerry thought maybe it was lack of heat but I'm using a 900C pen. You might be able to do it with an 1100-1500 solder gun, but I didn't have those around.

    Definitely reposition the thermistor

Thanks Mike. I'll pull off the red silicon and have a look. I have some copper gasket silicon the reapply for securing the wire attachment point.

I'll be interested to know what worked out best for your cable reroute. I have all my upgrade materials in hand but haven't jump into it yet.

Mike - do you have a link to these. I have a few times where the cable has bound preventing bed homing.
    Thanks

damn near impossibe...I tried everything short of nuclear fusion.

On a side note, you can remove and reglue the heat pad thingy. I WOULD NOT ADVISE IT, but it can be done. Takes a lot of patience to remove it from the glass without damaging it (I used a scraper and orange oil based lubricant.) Then I reapplied it with some high temp scotch spray adhesive. Again, I wouldn't do it unless you have no other choice.

Now what is this cable chain thing?

Mike Kelly posted it just above. It's a controlled guide for the bed cables that Donhuevo designed for the Robo.

Yea, but what do you do with it?

You route the cables inside of it?

    (or is that too obvious?)

I used ziptie loops to accomplish pretty much the same thing, but this is a neater solution.

Thanks for the advice everyone. Here's the plan so far... Kapton tape.
Next will be soldering on a XT60 connector for the heating element wires and a HXT connector for the Thermistor wires. The connecting cable that will run through the cable chain is flexible silicon sheathed wire.

Cable chain installed and cable hole drilled. I created new ends for donhuveo's cable chain and will publish a remix on Thingiverse after I've tested this bad boy.
