So I will need to buy a tap to tap the hole?

The team should redesign the mount for that rod to hold the switch. Then add a screw like you did Cambo.

you do not need to buy a tap just use a drill bit slight smaller than the bolt you intend to use use it sill cut its own path

Looks like that would be a #31 bit to allow threading. Sound about right?

It really depends on the screw you want to use. To be honest, I simply looked for a bolt that was long enough and then looked for the drill bit nothing really too fancy. Most likely you have along enough screw someplace already and it simply requires a hole slightly smaller what ever size it may be, within reason of course. ;)

I did it today. Works great. Took me less time to do this mod than get it adjusted correctly the original way.

Slight remix to this great mod:

I've noticed a few stress cracks in some of the molded parts so I wasn't feeling too great about drilling into that carriage. So, I remixed the mod. Same concept, slightly different execution.

Rather than drilling, I made a little bracket for the 6-32 screw that mounts to the lower right corner bolt pattern for the x-axis motor.
Z limit switch mount was rotated out by about 45 degrees.
Also, rather than put in a piece of tubing as a spacer (because I forgot to grab one when I was at the store), I just butted the limit switch bracket to the z-rod bracket.
I may also add a little flag to the bottom of the screw to help ensure good contact to the switch.

Here's a pic and the stl file.

Hey! I love that idea, I was dreading having to drill a hole in my plastic to put the screw in.

What is the size of the machine screws that hold the microswitch on. I got my mod done, but the microswitch after I unscrewed those horribly short screws, won't tap back in and the switch falls off... I need longer screws. Art they #3 screws at 3/8ths of an inch length or 1/2 inch?

adjusting the original one was very time consuming in accurate and awkward to do and since you had to do it on a regular basis to get your prints to turn out well it was not a good setup this mod takes care of that it is not quite simple to accurately adjust this.

Just as an FYI most mods shown here have the original issues well documented prior to the mod being created or else the mod would not have been made in the first place so the issue is here and in great detail.
