So I checked in on my print and saw the nozzle had moved off to the side but the print was only a few percent done.

So I thought there was a problem. with the gcode. checked the layers and they were all there.

heated up the nozzle and tried to push the filament through but it wouldn't budge.
so I tried to pull the filament and it snapped.
I tried extruding . the gears moved but nothing came out.

so whats the recommended way to deal with this?

Be very careful pulling on the extruder. I broke the thermistor wiring trying to work out a clog

I normally don't bother unclogging a nozzle they are so cheap it is much easier to just replace them. Besides this with a new nozzle, even the cheap Chinese nozzles you get an orifice that is either exactly the right size or extremely close to the correct size. I just keep a handful of brass nozzles around for just that occurrence.
