I'm working on someone's R1 (post beta) and I can't seem to communicate through USB.
The device shows up as COM8 in device manager, but I can't interact with the printer in Arduino or Cura.

Drivers won't update because most recent driver for USB is installed. Suggestions would be much appreciated.

Whack the USB from the device manager without the printer installed. Have Windows re detect the USB PORT and plug it in again. Make sure you have admin rights to the PC.

Update the chipset drivers on the PC.

    Try a different PC.

Yes the lights were coming on, this was an issue with the computer's drivers though, not the Arduino. @GAmbrosio had the fix.
