That looks like the thermister. There should be a little hole in the side of the heater block and normally is held in using a screw with a washer.

It doesn't appear to be a screw hole, it looks like it was glued in?

You have a bad thermistor. As a get by you an use high temp silicon to "glue" the thermistor bead into the canistor but you need a new thermistor. Contact Robo for a replacement.

Unfortunantly they would be your best bet at getting the thermistor, I'm not sure anyone has found and used an exact replacement. Robo has been known to send even if out of warranty :D

They are really cheap and Robo usually will shoot you one.
As odd as it seems that silly canister style they use unique and I have not found an exact match generically.
Not sure what possessed them to do that... There are a few alternatives that are close, but not perfect matches and they also need to be held in place with some sort of high temperature adhesive.

Any chance that the E3D cartridge thermistor will fit the Hexagon?

Depending on which way the variation goes, could someone carefully drill the heater block to accommodate the E3D thermistor or flood the Hexagon heater block hole with thermal paste, install the E3D thermistor and then tighten the set screw to hold it?

I think since there would be drilling of a heatblock, firmware change and hoping I'd opt towards replacing it with a known good thermistor.

Yes, but that is a fair amount of fiddling :)
Why they used that oddball sized thermistor is ... questionable.
And the thing is if you buy a generic hexagon you can't get that either.

that one there is what we used for the C2 second extruder and while everything else is a match for the Robo one, the thermistor is not.

I contacted robo support and they said I can only buy new thermistor wire and not the thermistor itself... does this sound right?

They probably mean the thermistor the wire and the connector plug.
That would be fine, but make sure they do indeed include the themistor too :)

Assuming you want to spend the 5$ ... Just reply to them that as long as it includes the thermistor attached -- yes :)
