I did the e3dv6 upgrade, but now I hear clicking (skipping steps). It only happens in one place as I turn the extrusion wheel manually. It gets gradually harder to turn, clicks then is somewhat looser again and gradually builds up until it clicks again at the same spot. The wheel seems harder to turn than with the hex setup.

What should I check and could I have put the gear back together incorrectly? If so, how does it go back together? The parts dropped out as I took it apart. The hobbed bolt is centered on the filament. Is there a recommended tension for how tight to screw the gear back on? I have played with the filament tension, but that doesn't seem to do anything.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Loosen up that lock nut until it spins easy. Probably just a little nudge loose is enough to free it up :)
