I've printed about eight objects so far. On my last set of prints (Han Solo Belt Buckles) I noticed this line forming. It's in the same spot on each print. It eventually fills it in, but you can see it. Any ideas?

    Thanks CW

    Wild guess -- underextrusion?

Why would it be happening in the same place though? just for a couple passes?

I am not clear what you are talking about on that picture.
Maybe add a little more context (circles or arrows to the section in question)

If you haven't calibrated the extruder -- you really should. Particularly if you want best results.

Sorry and I know it's not a great picture. Somebody suggested the extruder tip is too close to the bed for the first layers.

    Thanks

with your first layer the Z offset is all that controls this. Once you get above the first layer then the layer thickness comes into play.

It is unlikely that the layer thickness would generate artifacts like that so it is probably just a first layer issue.

I'm going to put the original picture back in. When I put the red circle in it resized it. Maybe it's something on my bed there. My skirt goes down pretty well I think.

    Could it be the model?
Try moving your model or rotating it before you print. See if the artifact stays right there or moves with the model.

By "two different prints" are you saying the arifact is or is not appearing in the same place?
Did you try my suggestion of moving the model over a bit before printing and seeing if the artifact followed the model or not?

Sorry. It did appear in the same spot on two different prints, but I didn't get it last night on several different prints. I think my extruder is too low.

I tried printing two objects at once and lost the print about 2/3's in because one of the objects came loose, but I've been a printing fool.

I'm starting to gain more confidence to play with the settings. I'm learning slowly but surely.

    Use a notebook!
    3/2/17 - PLA - changed temp to 194 from 210 = good results
    2/2/17 - PLA - lowered z from -.85 to -.90 = bad results - returned to previous z setting.

    And so on.

How do those prints look by the way? I'm printing a lightsaber hilt for a buddy of mine.

    :)

What's the Gcode to offset the Z axis on first layer?

    M565 Z-1.0

That would set it to 1.0mm needs to be done before the G29

I'm thinking that line may be pressure build up. and adjusting the height of the Z axis by just a bit may help.

Too close to the bed will create backpressure.
The thing about backpressure is that on some exxtruders it can be obvious and a serious problem, others... not so much.

The GregsWade is one that generally speaking backpressure will not be a huge issue particularly on the Robo R series because the feed path is very short and the extruder has a lot of torque. On a bowden feed, backpressure can ruin your whole day (or many days).
