I was curious if there was an extruder I could purchase for my R1+ that would be capable of doing high temperature prints (above 260 degrees), BUT also not require a new carriage or hot end structure.

I know that E3D has the volcano hot end, which is really nice, but that requires modifications that I rather not do to my printer just yet. Anyone have an idea of an extruder that fits the bill?

The regular E3D is fine up to 300c no volcano adapter required.
The volcano has a larger melt zone, not a higher heat tolerance :)

The E3D is about as drop in as you can get. you only need to replace the fan shroud and swap connectors since the R1+ uses different connectors than E3D supplies. Unless you are printing PAEK or PEEK, there just aren't that many filaments that need that much temperature.

    What he said ^^^^^

I have used a nylon blend that was hotter than 300c, but there are darn few filaments that really need that much heat.
