So, I got the e3d v6 installed. Got it from printed solid so I didnt have to do any firmware fixes.

Ran a test print of an oiler, and the layers were horrible. Loose, brittle, could snap with two fingers.

Turned up the temp to 220 as I had seen in some other forums and ran a 3 hr print of some boxes.

Same problem. But before that happened, before I even began to print, I had to set the z-offset to -2 (best guess) because it would have started printing in the air had I not done that. It is also not printing the first what seems like 2mm, which I am assuming has something to do with me futzing with the z-offset.

I'm very new to printing, but can follow instructions.

I dont know how to calibrate the machine and need help getting this as close to dialed in as possible. I just want the machine to print like it used to before the extruders went to crap. 22256748_10213003740042540_4264751624193511370_o.jpg 22256748_10213003740042540_4264751624193511370_o.jpg 22289607_10213002431769834_3634520793476828324_o.jpg

The pictures look like under extrusion.
When you replace the hotend you need to :

    1) recalibrate the hotend (video below)
    2) re-test and adjust your Z offset (more so when you replace it with a new one that is not the same size).

Also the e3d does require a firmware change from stock. Thermistor type. I don't know of him selling it with the robo thermistor type

Are you certain you have a screw in stud thermistor. I had thought he didn't carry anymore as the new e3ds are a cartridge thermistor ?

That is exactly right. You can't use the MetalStud thermistor so you need to use the E3D cartridge one and that requires a firmware mod.
