I was looking at the extruder gears and hobbed bolt and was wonder how they were made.

I remember it being mentioned in the r1+ description waaaay back in the olden days that some parts were 3d printed. The gears are... How were they made? The big gear looks injection molded on the teeth and 3d printed at the core. Maybe it was 100% 3d printed and then forge pressed to get the smooth teeth?

The hobbed bolt I thought might have been milled on a rotary table at indexed points to give it its teeth but I think it might be dremel cut off wheel indentations instead.

There's a way to make hobbed bolts with a thread tap.

Thanks, I will look into that as I may end up making my own extruder if I cant find a good premade extruder upgrade.

I wanted to upload photos of my previous set up, and my current set up but I keep getting error messages about the files being too big. Don't bother to make your own hobbed bolts. Upgrade the whole extruder to use a small spring loaded assembly. They come in plastic or aluminum left & right handed. This is what I used: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZZGW629?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1

The R1+ they plastic parts are injection molded, but you can print all of he extruder parts (except for the hobbed bolt of course) and they work fine.
