is matter control capable of estimating how much filament a project will need?

I see the time estimate appears after I start printing.
it would be more useful if that info were available before printing.

Do not know, if no others here know -- ask the authors :)

Yes - when you are viewing a model, switch to "Layer View" and the filament, volume and time estimates appear on the sidebar on the right.

If mattercontrol is like the others you can bank on the filament estimate being pretty damn close to right, but the time estimate is not.
These estimates never include acceleration/deceleration and for an FDM printer that can make a big difference.

thanks for that info, I found it now.
it was right about a 5 hour job, to with a few mins.
but I will keep in mine to expect inconsistent results.

    thanks
