ARGH. Got my first clogged hot end cannot get the filament to extrude at all. I've sent an email to support to get a replacement PTFE tube since I think it's very clogged. The filament wouldn't come out at all even with heat.

Luckily I've got a E3D hotend on order and I'm just waiting for it. :)

Have you pulled it off to see where the clog is?

Yes. I was running a long print job last night. It clogged sometime during the night and the hobbed bolt stripped plastic off of the filament. The clog, from what I can tell is in the PTFE tube. Nothing is getting past it. Luckily it looks like the e3d hotend will be here tomorrow. :D

Nice. You can probably disassemble it and clear it out, but if you're gonna do the E3D anyways might not be worth the effort.

Be super careful with the thermistors when putting in the E3D, broke both of mine!

How did you break the thermistor?

Thermistor 1 that came with E3D. During the securing process inside the E3D I guess I took it out and put it back too many times so when I got it heating up it would open the circuit and read 0. Once I tried to take it apart to diagnose I pulled the leads off the thermistor and the head stayed secured inside the E3d.

Thermistor 2 was the original that was already on the hot end. I was trying to solder the leads back together and initially I had the thermistor end held with my helping hands, but it came off that then one of my leds broke off.

They're very fragile so just be super cautious when bending/adjusting the head.

I used fire cement to secure my thermistor and it made a huge difference to ease of assembly. No more risk of the thermistor coming out of that little hole.

Yeah I used some ultra high temperature silicone gasket paste but in my process of trying to secure it in it came out 4-5 times, so by the time it was actually secure it was damaged.

If I had managed to leave it untouched after the first insertion it would have been fine, but I messed up and ruined it.

Good to know. Luckily my soldering iron is sitting right next to me in case I need it. :)

The E3D comes with ferrules for securing the wires together for the thermistor. If I had to do it over again I would use the stock thermistor FIRST then use the E3D's supplied one as a backup. No soldering, insulation, etc needed if you use the stock one. Just be careful when disassembling it to not damage the thermistor

Leon, It's a Hakko too. My first digital display and controlled iron. I was all excited when I got it. :) My husband was laughing at me 'cause I was bouncing around.

Ok. I got everything I think to start doing some upgrades.

Here is what came in my E3D order from e3d-online:

I recognize everything here except for that green thing. Anyone know what that is?

No, not yet. So I'm still ok. Just in case though I just ordered four EPCOS thermistors

yeah it's honestly good to have around. Like I mentioned I would not even bother with using a different one since the stock one has nice insulation already. Reusing that would make things much simpler

sigh. Latest in What Could Go Wrong(tm) I forgot to shut off power to the printer :( while soldering one of the heater leads I saw a spark and went "oh crap!" and shut it off then. Now it doesn't look like the microcontroller is powering up at all :(

So now I need to order a replacement microcontroller and ramps board. :/
