It creates a part with essentially one continuous strand of filament instead of using retractions and crossing perimeters

Starting the T-Rex head on high detail with supports since the previous attemp without support failed and was partially collapsed when the printer had some kind of error.

Here it is as I'm going to bed. Will post an update in the morning and the finished print after removing the supports in the afternoon/evening.

Woke up to use the restroom and saw the black bits here.

    20150606_031213.jpg

Printer is still chugging along and putting a clean white layer over the black. What would cause this though?

Which hotend do you have? That is usually burnt filament. Filament that stuck to the nozzle for a bit and then got sucked into the print or that leaked from somewhere else. There was a time when the Hexagons were loose at the heat break and they would leak there (they were not correctly tightened from the factory install by Robo). This would then later drip onto the print.

I have the volcano. I think it was a hair of filament that wrapped up onto the nozzle and took that long to burn and drip back off.

Well, enclosure is assembled and installed with double sided permanent outdoor tape.

Kind of ugly because I suck at applying weld-on and it leaked thru to the cardboard the enclosure was resting on, but it muffles the sound of the servo motors and I'm anxious to see how ABS will print with it.

    Here is the rough assembly.

Still need to polish the supported surfaces and clean up the label ink, but here it is. 20150606_213909.jpg

Yeah, Printed Solid sells them and there is a mods and upgrades thread about how to put it together.

Looks ok from this angle, but

So I'm cleaning the bed and reprinting. This is a little weird though.

Once I get my robo working again I may print it just to see how much of a nightmare cleaning that support off ends up being (assuming it succeeds in printing).

Will be a JustPLA print though, no fancy filaments.
