New to the hobby. Just given a Robo. My question is how does one tell if the one I have is the original from kickstarter or the current model? I am thinking it is the KS version because it doesn't have the heated bed nor the SD card slot among other things. Not to mention a broken guide bar bracket, which should be an easy fix. If it is the KS version, it is looking like I will be spending some coin to upgrade it. Thanks for the assistance, looking forward to getting into this hobby.

Side note, where can one get files that are no longer available on public sites? Thanks again.

Oh and which do I trust for the voltage switch? the sticker or the switch itself. They conflict each other as far as labeling which is which.

just like this (sticker is the top and bottom is the switch)
    110/220
    225/115

if they were both on same side I wouldn't question it lol

R1's all have heated bed's. They also use smooth rods and linear bearings for the Y axis, and auto-level switches instead of a screw contacting a switch for the Z.

Trust the switch for sure. It's less important on 110 to get it right, but on 220 you absolutely need it on 220.

Mike, how many versions of R1 are there?

I ordered R1 and got my printer in March. But it doesn't have Y axis smooth rod, linear bearings, nor auto-level switches.

    There's only 1 R1. Otherwise you have a beta.

If you didn't pay $799 you don't have an R1

I paid $699, but on the web site at the time of my order and my receipt it clearly stated R1.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I have no idea why they did it as such, I'm just explaining it.

Your purchasing name doesn't matter, just the features it has/what you paid.

No problem. It's really confusing with their poor naming of different versions.

I believe that it caused many users problems of installing wrong versions of firmware.

It certainly has! They've made quite a few decisions on the different versions that leave me scratching my head and leave users accidentally installing the wrong firmware.

Just an FYI, but I actually did have an R1 with a black acrylic bed at one point. I ended up getting a glass bed and upgrading it to a normal R1 once I realized that there was no such thing as a PLA only R1. One more thing to add to the potential confusion!

Wait you had acrylic on the linear bearing/smooth rod Y axis?

yes sir. It was a straight up R1 except for the bed. Even had the cable to attach to the heated bed. I placed an order for a PLA model and that's what I got.

Robo 3D really need to take a class of quality control.

It definitely will help them have minimize their QC issues (looks like many issues are avoidable), they would find much more time to focus on customer service.

That's actually been their primary focus for the past shipment from china. Mike went over there for 2-3 weeks and oversaw their QC company to verify what they are making is of the standards that robo3d expects.

These new batch printers should be much better and they're starting to ship out. Only time will tell if users have issues, but it's been quiet which is a good thing.

Many of their QC issues can be blamed on their China CM.

However, some issues are definitely Robo 3D's own and has nothing to do with whoever makes their printers. If Robo 3D does not see this, then I don't think it will improve too much.

Anyway, yes, only time will tell.

Naming different versions of the build. Different configurations of R1.

Don't tell me that their CM determines naming of different versions for Robo 3D.

I thought you meant QC issues. That's just weird business decisions.

Thanks, I figured out why the sticker is "backwards." It is referring to the throw direction. Now I just need to get a replacement vertical guide rod bracket so I can fire it up. It was broken when I opened it. Never used before.
