    Hi;
I just received my Robo 3D R1+
Tax return gift to myself. :D
Also just picked up a M3D Micro.
The Micro might be sold off before I even use it.
First 3D printer I bought was a Solidoodle S2. Still have it.
First significant mod to the Robo will probably be the Smart LCD XXL Controller.
Most of my modding is on the light side.
Mostly because I am lazy and not because I am not capable.

Cheap and easy... Do the LCD!

Then hook up a string of LEDs, you won't regret it :)

Welcome to Robo! I think you'll find it to be a nice upgrade from your solidoodle. I agree that you should send the micro back :)
The LCD is really a must have. E3D V6 hot end is also a popular upgrade, but the stock hot end isn't too bad. I usually suggest considering the E3D when the stock hot end dies. Sort of an 'as-needed' upgrade. If you don't already have it, simplify3d software is very useful as well.

As in "best thing since sliced bread" -- that sort of an upgrade :)

Thanks for the upgrade tips. I will probably stay with the hexagon hot end until I have any issues with it. I am proponent of not fix'n what is not broken. That is unless it comes with new features I can't live without!
Heard about Simplify3D but have not looked into it yet. I assume it replaces MatterControl. Does it come with slicer software?
Gives you more options to tweak the print?
So far have only used Pronterface and Skeinforge with the Solidoodle.

Not really. The E3D is a bit easier to setup for flexible filaments and you can buy replacement parts for it, but I wouldn't invest in it until you need to replace the hotend.

Simplify3D has its own slicer that is way ahead of the free ones. It is a little different to learn, but not terribly so and they have :
    (1) actual support if you need it
    (2) online videos (really good ones) and tutorials

It offers a level of control that is non-existent on the others. The only downside is the price (which compared to other process control software is really cheap, but it isn't 'free') and the fact that you don't always need all of those features.

If you're familiar with pronterface and skeinforge, I'd highly advise starting with Cura or slic3r over mattercontrol.

Yeah LCD mod will be a go. LED mod actually not needed now as Robo3D now replaced the blue LEDs with white ones.
May still add another strip up top though.
