If you need to change the extrusion multiplier then your extruder needs to be calibrated. Plain and simple :)

Well I almost had a working printer. I really had my hopes up and then it stopped. No warning or error. Just stopped. I had to reset the connection to get any sort of communication.
I think I beer may help

I'm trying again. One last time ad it's almost 10pm and my wife is likely to divorce me if I don't stop soon. Especially as in away with 'the guys' this weekend

Sounds like a bad USB cable (or the aurduino going out).
The Arduino is pretty sturdy, I have only replaced one due to a failure.
    Still, a possibility.

That's the last three attempts. The bottom left was the one that stopped. The top one was with extrusion multiplier back to 1.
I've now reduced it to 0.9 again and raised the z offset by 0.1mm
    Enough for tonight though.

    Thanks for your patience guys.
I'm at a Ham Radio / Maker Meet in Germany this weekend.
I may just buy a new printer...

Bottom left looks the best but still looks either much to hot, or over extruded.

This was printed with the extrusion reduced to 0.85
The top right corner was starting to warp and it still looks pretty ragged to me.

Currently trying a slightly higher Z offset and looking better so far.

Assuming I can get it to print these parts I'd then like to do something with the bed. There is no real adjustment to level it.

No, the original beta was crap in that respect. Most folks added spring-loaded screws to the corners (where they mounted to the rails) and adjusted it that way

The finished print. Suggestions on how to improve it greatly appreciated.

If you did not do it, see my previous post on calibrating the extruder. The top looks not bad, but it still looks like over extrusion.

Great. I'll do that as soon as I get a moment.

If it is far enough off that could be the rest of your issues.

I've just attempted to calibrate the extruder. Strangely the result are inconsistent. I made sure the multiplier was set to 1. Marked 110mm and extruded 100mm. Did the calculations and adjusted the extrusion rate in the eprom. Tried again and it only extruded 60mm. Went back to original setting and did two 100mm extrusions without change in between. One was 105mm but the second was more like 120mm. Hard to be exact as my 100mm mark disappeared into extruder.

    Have I missed something?

I mark around 120 to 150 mm of filament (because your line is disappearing you cant get an accurate measurement). I'd give it another shot. Also I do not suggest saving to EEPROM unless its temporary. Changing the value in the firmware is my suggested way of doing it. Do the test 5-10 times, average the numbers that is the number to plug into the equation. The outputted number from the equation goes int he E-Steps portion of your firmware

It took me multiple times to get it right my first time doing it :)

Ok. I'm altering the steps on the firmware page. Are you saying I don't have to save it until it's right? Just close the page?
I assume I don't need to reboot the arduino controller each time?

Every time you flash the firmware you need to verify and upload to the printer. After this is done successfully you need to clear EEPROM and save to revert to firmware settings. Then check to verify your machine is extruding 100mm of filament

Sorry, I'm even more confused now. I'd assumed that by changing the setting and saving to eprom I was changing the firmware and making the change permanent. Why clear the eprom if I've just written the new settings to it...?
