I've got OctoPrint running on a Raspberry Pi, and it is connected to the Robo 3D R1+ via USB.

When the printer is OFF, and I power ON the Raspberry Pi, the LCD on my printer turns on. I've got the SainSmart 2004 LCD Smart Controller board with the dial to the right, not the XXL version with the dial at the bottom, not that it matters.

    Anyone else experiencing this?

    Todd

The LCD is powered from the RAMPS which gets powered from the USB cable. I would imagine if the Octoprint is powered up and the printer attached via USB that the LCD would be on.

That's normal, as the USB on the Arduino will draw power from anything plugged into it if it is available.

So your Octopi+USB is able to power the board and the LCD, but not actually power the printer.
