Anyone using orca slicer with a R1+ ? I read how great orca slicer is and was wondering if any of you have used it with the Robo R1+, and if so, what does it take to make it so?

I'm not familiar with that slicer, but if there's a way to make a profile for the R1 then let us know. Is it web based or a downloadable program?

Orca slicer is a downloadable program as I understand.

This thread was moved into the software subsection. Does this slicer come with a profile for the Robo R1? I use MatterControl version 1.7.5. It has 3 built in slicing engines: Matter Slice, Cura, and Slic3r. I know that the Robo R1 is compatible with other software. Take a look at the threads in the software section.

Thank you BrooklynBay for commenting on my question. There is a lot of jargon about 3d printing that I do not get. I can usually down load and install, and then use a piece of software that works with my printer, as I did with MatterControl, going from version 1.5 to 1.7.5.
Some new ways of using the upgrade. The question is- has anyone got a profile that lets the Robo3dR1+ work with Orca slicer. I don't have the smarts or the desire to learn all that would let me do it on my own. I am guessing that there are a lot of smart people on this forum that could do it, but is it worth doing for such an "old" machine. I am having my fun getting to know CAD, so as to create stuff to make.

What kind of CAD software are you using? Version 2.0 & higher in MatterControl have the slicer & CAD software in the same program.

Fusion 360 free version is what I am using at this time. Works well for what I need now, but still very much more to learn. I learned some CAD on a 2d program many years ago. Built marine breaker panels and such. Version 2.2 of MatterControl will not load on to my computer. I started out with a used machine and version 1.5. I just now am trying version1.7.5. Some things I would like to do in the slicer is add more walls and infill in different areas. I gather from what I have read that this can be done with newer slicers.

I have tried to use the other slicers in MatterControl without good results.

You could change the infill, outer wall thickness, lower, and upper layer thickness. This allows you to make those sections solid while everywhere else has a standard infill. The Slic3r engine goes one step further with an option to only use infill where it's necessary for support. The Cura, and MatterSlice engines don't have this function, but all of them give you an option for external supports. You have to experiment with different settings, then when it's working correctly you could save the setting for a custom print profile.

Thank you for all the information you have shared with me. I can see that I have a lot more to learn about slicers than I first thought. I will just stick with what I have. After reading many threads in "software" and other places on the forum, I get the impression that MatterControl is not much liked. With that said, I will stick with what I have and plod along. Again thank you for your time and information.

I've been using MatterControl 1.7.5 for years, and it works so that's what I'm using. I've tried 2.0 but I prefer the 1.7.5 version.

Years ago Matter Hackers (the company behind the Matter Control software) was planning on redesigning 1.7.5. I contacted them, asked a lot of questions, and gave suggestions. They liked everything, and said that they will give their notes into the software team, set up the questions & answers either on their website or as help menus, and see what that they come up with. A few months later they came out with 2.0. If I would have been on their team, I would have done things a little different. It's a good program. I think that the interface on 1.7.5 is easier to use, and looks better.

I will need to find a local group that I can sit down with and pick their brains about the finer points of working with a slicer program.
I also will try the other slicer engines that are with MatterControl.
