does anyone know the distance between the two smooth support rods on the z-axis. I was hoping someone had an accurate dimension. I am planning on building a new enclosure for the printer...

Robo has the STLs for most of the parts including the middle plate found here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:69794.

However, MK has the complete printer in SolidWorks or STEP format found here http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:729956. I would say go with MK's files for a good start finding out measurements and planning for any mods. I have used them a lot instead of manually measuring everything myself. If you don't have solid works, you can import into some 3d design apps like Fusion 360 or you can use the free eDrawings viewer from SolidWorks to open and view any of the files for measurements. Just download under the free cad tools tab here http://www.solidworks.com/sw/support/downloads.htm. Get the 2016 version since MK using the latest version.

I'd like to see what you come up with for a new enclosure.

Ha...well there you go. Sorry, I didn't know your background. You know more about this stuff than I do then. Good luck on the enclosure.

Autocad can still import many styles of CAD files. Besides you could always download Autodesk Fusion 360 (which is free to use for hobbyists and others) which will import SolidWorks part files directly.
