As soon as it was announced they hadn't even started building the printer(s) and dates slipped, i canceled my order. I ordered the printer to build parts for FIrst Robotics season which only has about 3 weeks left so i have another printer i'm using for that right now.

Cancelled mostly on principle since i didn't want to give robo3d a free loan when the pre-order dates were downright lies..

None of the things you posted have been "reviews" though.

Nope. I am not a "reviewer" by trade. Mine have all been just "this is what it is" or "this is what you get"

I have been more focused on looking at how to troubleshoot and fix one on your own rather than a showcase of features.

Frankly that is something Robo themselves should be trying to reach out for and ... they are dropping the ball there.

Yea, like their original KS campaign and most other campaigns out there :) They were way too optimistic on the delivery schedule (and they had been down this road before and should have known better).

I'd like to think the delays are due to design tweaks, but reality says it is more likely a manufacturing chain issue.

Agreed, We need to see more printing samples and detailed hi-res photos, and printing at 20 Microns. They should have been posting photos on their trip to foxconn and photos from foxconn showing the boxing of R2 and shipping! That would have made us feel a lot more connected.

After the skepticism from CES2016 and other shows the last couple years where people noticed the mock-ups were not actually printing anything, there really shouldn't be any surprise that they stopped showing off even that much.

So how would you compare, with what we know now about the R2. to an ultimaker 3 3D

I would laugh at you forever if you expected the R2 to be anywhere near the same neighborhood as an Ultimaker.

Especially with the Ultimaker 3 on the market.

LOL.. I was just looking at the ultimaker 3 extended. At that price, you should go with a resin printer ?

Until they are really on the streets it is a bit of a guess. I could make assumptions about the R2 based on the C2, but that is a bit of a fools game :)

Well, yes... from a quality perspective, no in the cost perspective :)

Resin ain't cheap. We use our resin printer almost never.

So assume the C2 is extended version of the R2. How does the C2 print?

Compared to the R1 units the C2 prints a lot better. I had a well tuned R1+ equivalent that we were using for detail prints (smaller stuff at higher resolution) and have swapped all of that over to the C2. Is it aggravation free? No, there are still some annoyances but no worse than any of the other vendors printers... Less in fact than most. Still I hope they clear them up.

The pictures I've seen around these forums have been on par with the prints I get out of my $350 chinese i3 (which, to be fair, is supported/sold by a much larger company than Robo, but still).

I've not seen anything that looked better than anything I've printed myself, yet (though some of this may be up to low image quality/bad lighting vs. parts I hold in my hand and look at).

Sure, but not as in "I printed eleventy-dozen widgets and sold them for $xxx "

We mostly use the printers for custom bits of industrial use robots. We have done a wide variety of parts for everything from toys to just cool crap, but directly selling printed items is not the way to leverage making money while printing. Shapeways and others can out-do you :)
