my 40mm fan died so i had to use what i had on hand a 50 mm fan.
the easiest way i found to attach the fan was as such.
    any suggestions?
    warnings?

On thingiverse you find dozends Ramps fan brackets especially designed for this purpose and in different sizes/Diameters - if the bottom hight is not sufficient to attach a bigger fan you may attach Printer foots also downloadable from thingiverse. I attached a 80mm fan to the Ramps board if I remember right...

I put mine roughly in the same spot on my beta long before they were even shipping fans. Works fine.
That is right beside the problematic polyfuses...
I made my hole width 3 inches (with a hole saw) and then placed a 3" DC fan there (blowing out).
    No troubles ever since.

Somewhere on the forum there is a picture of mine (from a couple of years ago) but you get the idea.

I put a 50mm on mine but it requires feet lifters to work. Uses the same style of bracket as the 40mm

Thanks mark! one of the more rewarding upgrades ive done. the stock bracket that ships with it bends over time and falls off. so you have to reattach it anytime you do any work on your printer. now ill never deal with that sh** again.

P.s. how do you keep yours from making excessive noise?

Last fall I just printed that fan bracket from Thingiverse and it has never fallen off. Even with transporting it to my son's school many times.

Im trying to avoid lifters at all costs. I dont wanna deal with putting em back on every time i lift the thing up, and i don't want to glue em on. the less permanent fixtures to the printer the better in my opinions so it can be changed and such given the need.

    its working so farm.

hey while i have you two on the forum i have a super quick pla pha question.

i did a prototype for a guy at work and he dipped it in acetone. (pla pha)
it actually smoothed out pretty conservatively.
Ill post pics when i get a chance, if i ever see that proto type again.

i know that pla doesnt react but does the pha?

are you sure it was the same one? mine bent right in the middle. i took it off and on many times too to get different things wired into the ramps.

Sadly that is all in the fan. You can buy quieter ones. Even mine the fan I used was a scavenged one and is a little bit noisier than I would like.
All you can really do is go shopping :)

Thermaltake and some others (CoolerMaster for example) make quiet ones designed for PC upgrading.

I guess hot glueing on lifters is less permanent to me than drilling holes through the front :)

    I used the stock 60mm on from http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:166045/#files, ramps_fan_60mm.stl .

I did print it in ABS.
