    Look through the comm log.
All of the printing software has one AFAIK. I can tell you where to find it in Simplify3D.

If it looks like this that is what you want. Errors will show up in this log:

You are most likely getting an error from the printer and that is cancelling the print.
Once you have identified the error then we can sort it out.

Be sure your USB ports aren't going into power saving mode

Im having a hell of a time with finding this log. If we assume that is the problem how would I go about fixing it?

Well, the LOG will only tell you (hopefully) What is going wrong.
Fixing it depends on what is in the log...

There should be an error in there that will clue you in on what is failing.

    on matter control:

    "
To access the Terminal, follow these steps:

    1. Open MatterControl.

    2. Click 'Advanced Controls'.

    3. At the bottom of the 'Printer Controls' section, there is a section called Printer Communications, with a 'Show Terminal' button.

    4. The Terminal will appear as a separate pop-up window."

For cura you need to click the print over USB button to bring up the control panel. You might need to enable the pronterface UI in the cura settings first.

Mike, I already have the ponterface UI but once I have that open how do I check the log? Do I need to do a print?

Well, you lost comm over the USB.
Lots of options for 'why' from a bad cable to a bad Arduino.
I assume you have tried the obvious ones?
(try a new USB port, try a brand new USB cable, add a powered USB hub between computer and printer)
