Trying to print a dog. Get a message when opening the file "part you are trying to load may be too complicated can cause performance or stability problems, consider reducing the geometry before proceeding"

Ok, how do I reduce the geometry?

More info please, where did the model come from? What application gave you that warning? etc.

That sounds like MatterControl. It does that when it runs low on memory :)

I could be wrong, been a long time since I used it. A large complex model with many vectors can cause that type of error

Cura or Slic3r, but you will need to set up a profile for it.

If you're on Windows 10 open the STL with 3D Builder, use the "Simplify" command and save as.
