Installed reprap discount controller. Everything works fine but the sd card reader.

I insert an sd card with a gcode file. Then the info screen says card inserted. I then go to the menu which displays no sd card.

    please help!
    thanks.

A side note I have the latest firmware and I uploaded it through arduino software. I also removed the comment // for reprap smart controller and sdcard support

Try a new sd card. That happened to me before. Swapped sd cards and it was fine.

What file format did you use when you formatted the SD card

Double check all the SD card connections and maybe try reflashing the firmware.

    Otherwise it might be defective

Doesn't get any more generic than BangGood. Cheap Chinese knockoffs.

My firmware works fine with that one I just linked to.
I didn't have to modify anything.
However, I have the beta not the R1, BUT that shouldn't matter.

Yes with the 20x4 display controller, you just plug it in and it works. It is already enabled in the Robo firmware.

Only thing to remember, format the card FAT32. Marlin will truncate the filenames to 8.3 for display so make the first eight letters distiguishable if you are going to dump a bunch of files on the card at once. All files must be in the root directory.

Like @WheresWaldo said, fat32. Then you MUST use 8.3 format filenames.

Bear in mind that if you happen to use an SD card >32gb and format it from Windows, it will not be FAT32 unless you really work at it (i.e. use a utility to do the format, not windows itself). Windows doesn't want to let you do this (I have not tried it with Windows 10, but I doubt that changed). You can use various 3rd party utilities to format the CD to FAT32.

I had a 64gb card I need to use on a Pi and fell right into learning all about that.
