Jun 29, 2017 8:47 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Sounds like they were inspired by the BlackBelt.
Jun 29, 2017 8:48 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Definitely more affordable, though.
    Jun 29, 2017 8:48 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Wonder where they're getting their slicer. o_O
    Jun 29, 2017 9:49 AM - daniel871: Polar 3d Printing or something like that.
    Jun 29, 2017 9:49 AM - daniel871: http://about.polar3d.com/printer/
Jun 29, 2017 11:49 AM - daniel871: I really need to clean up around my cheapest printer: http://i.imgur.com/XlLKG7H.jpg
Jun 29, 2017 1:14 PM - OutsourcedGuru: At least you have a garage. Mine's perched like an eagle atop a 5' Ikea corner shelf. ha
    Jun 29, 2017 1:17 PM - OutsourcedGuru: Couldn't find their slicer code. :(

Jun 30, 2017 5:17 AM - daniel871: That's because Polar3d is doing their best to keep it closed-source behind a server in "the Cloud".
Jun 30, 2017 5:17 AM - daniel871: i.e.; You cannot slice anything for the Printrbelt or Blackbelt without having an account with them and an active internet connection.
Jun 30, 2017 5:30 AM - Geof: Met the guy from Polar 3D, he didn't have much if any interest in letting people know "how" he sliced for the angle. he said the majority of his buisness aim was schools. Suprised to see him teaming up with printerbot. Interesting machine but the restrictive 6x6xcontinuous is much to small especially for 2K.
Jun 30, 2017 5:42 AM - daniel871: Well, the larger "Blackbelt" printer is 13" x 13" x ??? print area and the kickstarter price for it is about $8,500 + shipping if you get it during the campaign (closer to $10,000 after that).
Jun 30, 2017 5:44 AM - daniel871: Both machines have their software handling through Polar3d so I suspect that company is going to be the bottleneck for getting that style of printer actually opened up to the rest of the Reprap community.
Jun 30, 2017 5:44 AM - daniel871: Or someone will just have to invest a lot of time re-inventing the same process.
Jun 30, 2017 5:45 AM - daniel871: Kind of like how the folks doing the Prometheus multi-material and the folks at Prusa are covering a lot of the same ground for their multi-material approaches.
Jun 30, 2017 5:46 AM - daniel871: (except neither of those companies are hiding everything behind a cloud server)
Jun 30, 2017 5:59 AM - Geof: True. Will be interesting. Printerbot is suppose to be building a 12x12x? machine says Brook, but who knows what he'll want for that one if 6x6x?? is 2K.
Jun 30, 2017 5:59 AM - Geof: I'm more interested in that one but honestly for 4K I'll buy another UM lol. I dont mind restarting prints after 30 + hours ;)
Jun 30, 2017 6:17 AM - daniel871: That conveyor belt is a very limited gimmick to me. Unless you're printing cosplay staves or something I don't know what you'd use it for. The multi-part printing might be nice if you had to print a couple dozen of something and didn't want to deal with stringing on a build plate or something.
Jun 30, 2017 6:32 AM - daniel871: There's a lot of money in cosplay right now, I bet if printrbot did a timelapse of the Sword of Power being printed all at once that would generate some sales.
    Jun 30, 2017 6:32 AM - daniel871: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:179171/#files
Jun 30, 2017 7:19 AM - Kilrah: Sooo... time for some mods on the R2 already :\
Jun 30, 2017 8:31 AM - Geof: Daniel, I have a 5K piece order every few months. All the same part. Would be nice to set it and forget it until the spool runs out and not have to clear the build plate every morning, but you are correct in...is it really a big deal to clear a build plate lol.
Jun 30, 2017 9:24 AM - daniel871: Well, in that situation it sounds like the Printrbelt could pay for itself the first time you do one of those orders on it.
Jun 30, 2017 9:24 AM - daniel871: Assuming the individual part profile could fit in the 6 x 6 rectangle.
Jun 30, 2017 9:26 AM - daniel871: (depending on your actual costs sunk for the part in materials/etc.)
Jun 30, 2017 9:32 AM - Geof: the issue is ABS. That job is only printed in ABS and I dont think I'd risk 2k on a maybe or having to dink with it. Its right at the max size of that build plate. the 12x12 may be worth rigging up an enclosure and the such, but not for the little jobby he's offering now.
Jun 30, 2017 9:33 AM - Geof: I've asked for details on the heatbed and electronics and the such. If the belt isn't heated all the way around it would reak havok.
Jun 30, 2017 9:33 AM - Geof: plus its kapton tape pretty much, not sure how well it would hold up with repeated use at that scale ya know
Jun 30, 2017 9:55 AM - daniel871: Yeah, I asked multiple times on twitter about the life of the belt since I saw it a few days ago and haven't gotten a response.
Jun 30, 2017 9:56 AM - daniel871: The guy with the "Blackbelt" printer at least said that the belt replacement cost is $35 and they designed it to be simple to swap out (similar to swapping a sanding belt on a belt sander).
Jun 30, 2017 9:57 AM - daniel871: It being a carbon fiber belt means it should hold up a little better than just Kapton tape, too.
    Jun 30, 2017 9:57 AM - daniel871: $10K is a really hard pill to swallow though.
Jun 30, 2017 10:49 AM - Geof: yea the printer isn't worth that in my opinion.
Jun 30, 2017 10:49 AM - Geof: 4K maybe for that one. printerbot maybe 1k (maybe).
Jun 30, 2017 10:50 AM - Geof: I just dont see the actual value? I run a ton of printers by myself so yes having a printer that just keeps going is neat...but I dont see it saving me a whole lot of time (hour wise)
Jun 30, 2017 10:50 AM - Geof: now printing one at a time is considerably faster than 2 up or 10 up etc etc if you break it down to 1 print=xxx time
    Jun 30, 2017 10:51 AM - Geof: but not for a 2k or 8k ROI. Just isn't there. for 8K I'd buy another 5 production machines :D
Jun 30, 2017 12:45 PM - daniel871: I could see it being slightly faster than layer-at-a-time multi-object printing, but if you can get sequential complete object printing going on a given machine you don't lose much time.
Jun 30, 2017 12:45 PM - daniel871: (That usually only works in a single column on the Y-axis though. No grid object patterns.
Jun 30, 2017 12:53 PM - Geof: Yea the height of this part causes sequential to not work. Sequential doesn't do well with anything over like 2 inches. This guy is just short of 4 inches tall, right at 6 inches wide and about 1/2 " deep lol
Jun 30, 2017 12:54 PM - Geof: narrow, wide and tall (its a nightmare of a part lol )
Jun 30, 2017 1:09 PM - daniel871: Figure out how to orient it so the 1/2" part is parallel with the build plate :p
Jun 30, 2017 2:06 PM - Geof: Lol wish i could. Its got a 45 deg overhanging part lol
Jun 30, 2017 2:07 PM - Geof: The other side is protruding out. Its a very odd part lol oh yea and no supports allowed lol

Jul 1, 2017 8:14 AM - allen8888: Rpbp3d as a company SUCKS! they took my money back in Oct of last year and now we are into July and no printer! They have lousy customer support and when they make promises after promis to deliver, what i get is silence. DONOT TRUST THEM WITH YOU MONEY! I HAVE CONTACTED A LAWYER NOW TO GET SOME SATISFACTION.. SEE U IN COURT!
    Jul 1, 2017 8:32 AM - jim3Dbot: I'm assuming you hit the 'P' instead of the 'O'.........hmmmmm
Jul 1, 2017 9:08 AM - daniel871: Court is going to laugh that you didn't dispute the charge with your credit card company.
    Jul 1, 2017 10:27 AM - Geof: LOUD NOISES ;)
    Jul 1, 2017 10:33 AM - Geof: I'm guessing he's never done a Kickstarter before lol

Jul 3, 2017 5:09 AM - Geof: Good Morning all! 8 more hours then a day off ! Happy 4th to all the US guys (canada day to Canada !)
Jul 3, 2017 5:48 AM - daniel871: Tom streamed a live-build of the CR-10 over the weekend. Then the price spiked up again, lol.
Jul 3, 2017 5:56 AM - Geof: I've got one, their not that great of a machine.
Jul 3, 2017 5:56 AM - Geof: Just cheap and large.
Jul 3, 2017 6:33 AM - daniel871: Seems like it wouldn't be too difficult to properly re-inforce the machine. Isn't the frame just 80/20 profile?
Jul 3, 2017 6:34 AM - daniel871: Get some pieces to finish building the cube made by the bottom frame and it ought to be perfectly rigid after that (though that may be the cost of the machine again depending on supplier).
Jul 3, 2017 6:41 AM - daniel871: Not the entire frame, just the front portion.
Jul 3, 2017 6:59 AM - Geof: it prints fine, no real need to reinforce. Just a cheap machine. Not a fan of Melzi boards, not a fan of the cheapo wiring or the external powerbox etc.
Jul 3, 2017 7:00 AM - Geof: Hard to appreciate it when I've got machines like the Gmax and Type A that its print quality competes against. The only thing the CR10 has is how insanely cheap it is
Jul 3, 2017 7:00 AM - Geof: :D its just not as great as everyone totes it in my opinion :D
Jul 3, 2017 7:09 AM - daniel871: Ah, Gmax is the frame it reminds me of.
Jul 3, 2017 7:10 AM - daniel871: $3k for a printer that doesn't come with a heated bed is still nuts to me.
Jul 3, 2017 7:13 AM - daniel871: I think the CR-10 just belongs in the "Baby's 1st 3d printer (with a big build area)" category because of the cost investment. It'll hurt a lot less than the larger printers that are out there for much more money to figure out 99% of the time you don't need that much build space for hobby crap around the house.
Jul 3, 2017 7:58 AM - Geof: :D I use the larger build plate most the time at home :D dont need the heigh just the area ;) Gmax heatbed/printer= 3500.00 more or less. Not terrible but not great. Wont buy a 2nd one I dont think. They have the Gmax2 coming out which looked cool at the rapid but I dont see me buying it
Jul 3, 2017 8:42 AM - daniel871: You might be in a good position to do a custom MP3DP build, given all the different machines you play with.
Jul 3, 2017 8:43 AM - daniel871: Build the frame over a stationary heated build platform, then build an insulated box around it, then go to town with weird filaments.
Jul 3, 2017 8:43 AM - Geof: I do that last part already ;) lol
Jul 3, 2017 8:44 AM - Geof: its honestly better ROI to buy a machine to fit your needs in my application vs build one. To many hours in getting it to print "like another machine" that already exists. Typically there is already a machine that aces the job that needs done.
    Jul 3, 2017 8:44 AM - Geof: know what I mean?
Jul 3, 2017 8:45 AM - Geof: (from an at home hobbyist stand point - absolutely if I had the time I'd build another machine )
Jul 3, 2017 9:31 AM - daniel871: Oh, I get that. It's just going to take forever to save up for the Metal X or something like it to do the things I really want to do.
Jul 3, 2017 9:43 AM - Geof: Yep. Were waiting about a year and will likely go with Desktop Metal unless another company (reputable) figures out a cheaper way.
Jul 3, 2017 9:45 AM - Geof: Metal printing wont (in my opinion) replace traditional machining but if the finish quality is acceptable a very complex geometry job of a few pieces would be a great fit for that.
Jul 3, 2017 10:11 AM - daniel871: Remember that project someone did that was essentially a MIG welder on a 3d printer chassis?
    Jul 3, 2017 10:11 AM - daniel871: lol
Jul 3, 2017 10:38 AM - Geof: I do lol. Never did see that go to market though...:D
Jul 3, 2017 10:41 AM - daniel871: Nah. Some of the proof of concept things were neat to read about though.
    Jul 3, 2017 10:41 AM - daniel871: http://waammat.com/blog/have-we-3d-printed-the-biggest-metal-part-ever
Jul 3, 2017 11:54 AM - daniel871: No real thought goes into planning around work. The shop shut down early instead of working a full day and will probably have to work Saturday due to incoming rush work that has to ship by next Monday.
Jul 3, 2017 11:55 AM - daniel871: (that pushes things already scheduled out so that they have to be worked on after the rush stuff on Wednesday).
Jul 3, 2017 12:03 PM - OutsourcedGuru: The plastic plant had a bad-assed robotic welder that was taken out years ago by lightning but they wouldn't let me try to fix it.
Jul 3, 2017 12:10 PM - OutsourcedGuru: @daniel871 (regarding polar3d.com) the Wayback Machine appears to have a fair collection of their projects and stuff (without logging in), for what it's worth. Unfortunately Googlebot isn't coughing up their cache for same.
Jul 3, 2017 12:14 PM - OutsourcedGuru: @daniel871 No provisioning restrictions (any Google account works).

Jul 4, 2017 6:23 PM - daniel871: Question: what was the deal with Solidoodle printers? Someone local is selling one for $250 and I'm trying to decide whether that is worth it.
Jul 4, 2017 6:24 PM - daniel871: Its the model with the heated build plate & 8" cube build space.
Jul 4, 2017 6:26 PM - daniel871: This is a bit vague but its the older grey steel frame, not the black plastic thing still on Amazon.

Jul 5, 2017 at 6:09 AM - Geof: There wasn't much great about solidoodle lol.
Jul 5, 2017 at 6:10 AM - Geof: Everyone I know that had one has torn them down for whatever usable parts there were. Company is bust (as far as I know)
Jul 5, 2017 at 6:10 AM - Geof: If you can get him well under the asking price it may be worth it if you feel like a rebuild and make it better project.
Jul 5, 2017 at 6:11 AM - daniel871: I vaguely remembered reading about them before moving to looking at other machines, just couldn't recall whether they were just mediocre or actual hot garbage.
Jul 5, 2017 at 6:11 AM - daniel871: Sounds like they leaned toward "hot garbage".
Jul 5, 2017 at 6:15 AM - Geof: I dont think they ever "worked" as well as the competition (and at that time there wasn't much lol )
Jul 5, 2017 at 6:26 AM - daniel871: An awful lot of 3d printers on sale right now.
Jul 5, 2017 at 6:26 AM - daniel871: 15-20% off of all of the Tevo Tarantula kits, for example.
Jul 5, 2017 at 6:26 AM - daniel871: (and they include their knockoff of the Titan)
Jul 5, 2017 at 6:30 AM - daniel871: Not the Aero, the previous version. LOL
Jul 5, 2017 at 6:45 AM - Geof: lol! I dont need another fire hazard in the shop or at the home shop ;)
    Jul 5, 2017 at 6:46 AM - Geof: I think I'd take a solidoodle over a TEVO machine ;)
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:13 AM - daniel871: Are the current TEVO printers really that much more of a fire hazard than any other 3d printer, given the usual caveats about that?
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:15 AM - daniel871: Like, I added a mosfet to offload the bed heater load from the control board on my cheap chinese i3. But it wasn't because of fire risk so much as preventing a failure that would melt the control board because it wasn't rated for the power a heated bed draws.
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:19 AM - Geof: oh no not mosfets and things like that. More so all the reported ungrounded machines sent out, power switches that just arnt hooked up, machines that actually caught fire :D
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:20 AM - Geof: Their all a risk if ran unmonitored yes, but I think TEVO might be the one of the few brands that I see that I worry about it catching fire while monitored lol. You know...just doing its thing and then BAM! FIRE!
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:37 AM - daniel871: Eh. A lot of people are installing these inside their enclosures as a cheap insurance measure for their 3d printers (somehow still coming out less than just buying a more expensive machine). https://jogrusa.com/collections/blazecut/products/blazecut-fire-suppression-system-tv100-3
    Jul 5, 2017 at 7:40 AM - Geof: lol ! Thats interesting
    Jul 5, 2017 at 7:41 AM - daniel871: It looks like this: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=590402137776348&set=gm.600779210073314&type=3&theater
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:41 AM - Geof: Not available
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:41 AM - daniel871: Probably have to be a member of the group, hold on, taking a screenshot and hosting on IMGUR
    Jul 5, 2017 at 7:42 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:43 AM - daniel871: I would probably route one of those where it is somehow "aimed" at the control box as well since that is the area more likely to catch fire (or melt, if you're being technical about it), but that's just me.
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:45 AM - daniel871: That tubing ruptures if it gets above 120C at the surface of the tubing, releasing the contents which are rated for suppressing fires caused in A/B/C class categories, which is nice.
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:47 AM - Geof: That is rather impressive. Expecially at the price point.
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:49 AM - daniel871: Well, it was created/designed for selling to people that have to worry about their car engines catching fire, that's probably what drives the price point given the kind of people that modify their cars in ways where that is a worry. (though, to be honest, how expensive should it be to assemble some tubing with pressurized fire-suppression chemicals)
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:49 AM - daniel871: I figure a system designed to put out a fire in an environment like a car engine ought to be strong enough to work for a 3d printer. :p
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:50 AM - daniel871: The only really difficult/tricky part is figuring out the best/most efficient way to mount it on a given printer.
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:57 AM - daniel871: Also I'd imagine the cleanup if it ever goes off will be a nightmare.
Jul 5, 2017 at 8:00 AM - Geof: yea exactly. I'm hoping at some point this year to add a energen system as fire suppresion to the shop. Gas protection is much better than ruining a machine (or as many as I have lol )
Jul 5, 2017 at 8:07 AM - daniel871: Go full 90s nostalgia and get some Halon dispensers in the ceiling. :p
Jul 5, 2017 at 8:11 AM - Geof: LOL! :D that might actually cost more than the energen system! :D (also a 90s system but only 5 year maintenance required lol)
Jul 5, 2017 at 8:27 AM - danzca6: anyone see that 1.1.4 Marlin was released? The interesting addition was the Prusa MM code.
Jul 5, 2017 at 8:29 AM - danzca6: not sure anything else is fixed yet, but ...
Jul 5, 2017 at 8:32 AM - Geof: man I cant keep up with all the firmware changes lol. I just leave the robos at the 15th release from way back on waldos page lol
Jul 5, 2017 at 8:36 AM - danzca6: yeah I stopped upgrading as well...too many times having to start over and just wanted to print :)
Jul 5, 2017 at 8:51 AM - Geof: lol! RIGHT! Its heartbreaking
    Jul 5, 2017 at 8:51 AM - Geof: lol
Jul 5, 2017 at 8:51 AM - Geof: IDK how waldo keeps up
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:11 AM - daniel871: I bet the guy trying to do the same coding for the Prometheus hotend is pissed at the time spent on his end.
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:12 AM - daniel871: The time-lapses and videos I've seen for both companies look like they're taking pretty much the same approaches to the problem and following the same manufacturing paths.
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:12 AM - daniel871: Prusa just got done first.
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:14 AM - Geof: I dont think Prusa was done first. The promethius is and has been out already
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:14 AM - Geof: I had it working on the Robo, but had to pull it because I refuse to learn repetier lol
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:14 AM - Geof: Prusa is more popular due to the MK2 hype.
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:15 AM - Geof: S3D doesn't play nice with dual extrusion (AT ALL! )
    Jul 5, 2017 at 9:15 AM - Geof: ol
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:21 AM - daniel871: The actual guy promoting Prometheus on these forums said they were still working on it in one of the threads about it.
    Jul 5, 2017 at 9:21 AM - daniel871: http://community.robo3d.com/index.p...on-with-single-hotend.9158/page-6#post-111529
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:22 AM - daniel871: That's specifically for use with the E3D hotend instead of theirs though.
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:22 AM - daniel871: (and Prusa has been using E3D hotends for as long as I can remember)
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:23 AM - daniel871: I still think the BCN Sigma's approach will end up being the most efficient way to do it.
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:35 AM - Geof: Yea E3D is just released for the promethius, I used the system with the promethius V2.
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:35 AM - Geof: Sigma is my favorite hardware approach by far.
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:35 AM - Geof: Makergear is doing it now as well
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:46 AM - Geof: apparently leapfrog with their rediculously overpriced Bolt as well
Jul 5, 2017 at 9:53 AM - daniel871: Leapfrog made a comeback from being an overpriced garbage manufacturer, eh?
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:23 AM - Geof: nope lol. Doesn't look like it.
    Jul 5, 2017 at 10:24 AM - Geof: https://www.lpfrg.com/en/bolt-pro-3d-printer/
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:48 AM - daniel871: Oh hey, here's a video where some guy goes through the stock wiring on the CR-10.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:48 AM - daniel871: I like that they already did the external MOSFET mod for the heated bed.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:49 AM - daniel871: Also that every time somebody on Youtube reviews it, it jumps in price.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:50 AM - Geof: that external mosfet is no better than the mosfet on our ramps boards in my opinion lol
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:50 AM - Geof: My CR10 takes horribly long to heat even to 60 lol. I imagine that mosfet will fail the same as they do on the standard ramps :D
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:52 AM - daniel871: Yeah, what drives it is that the combined price of the Melzi and external mosfet is still lower than the Ramps setup, I think.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:53 AM - daniel871: And yeah, I'd imagine that the large bed takes a good long while to heat up in open air.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:54 AM - Geof: FOREVER DANIEL! FOREVER lol.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:54 AM - daniel871: "Going to print something in the morning, better preheat the bed tonight"
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:54 AM - Geof: my gmax heats up in under 3 mins. the type a (cheats because its 24V) is under 2.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:54 AM - Geof: LOL its every bit of 8 minutes to reach 60. Which isnt' really anything when combined with a 11.8" square print but still...good lord lol
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:54 AM - daniel871: Maybe the wires running to the bed are undersized and can't send enough current, Mosfet or not?
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:55 AM - Geof: I'm a little knit picky with it since everyone says how great it is but there are serious downsides that get "overlooked" because its cheap lol
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:55 AM - Geof: They are hidden in a wrap so i havent looked at them.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:55 AM - daniel871: I think I wait maybe two minutes for my mosfet-ed bed on the i3 I have to get to 90C while the nozzle gets to it's 255 for PETG.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:56 AM - Geof: When the melzi dies or I get some time I'll be stripping that crap out of there and replacing it with something else, adding autolevel
    Jul 5, 2017 at 10:56 AM - Geof: you know...bringing it to 2017.... lol
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:56 AM - Geof: Yea exactly! No reason the bed should "struggle" to hit 60. Also its not insulated on the bottom which is hilariously upsetting lol
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:57 AM - daniel871: I need to get into the firmware at some point and increase the firmware limit on nozzle temp so I can test the really high print temp filaments.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:57 AM - daniel871: Not familiar enough with the version of Repetier it uses though.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:58 AM - daniel871: I probably would have insulated the bottom of the bed while putting it together if I had one.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:58 AM - daniel871: At least the HVAC foil tape that works surprisingly well by itself.
Jul 5, 2017 at 10:59 AM - daniel871: Reminds me that I haven't insulated the bed on my i3 yet.
    Jul 5, 2017 at 10:59 AM - daniel871: Damn.
Jul 5, 2017 at 11:10 AM - Geof: I thought about it but figure meh I'd try it as they sell it to see what they hype was about.
Jul 5, 2017 at 11:10 AM - Geof: its just hype lol
Jul 5, 2017 at 11:29 AM - daniel871: I think a lot of it, too, is going to have to do with what experience you have with 3d printers before using it.
Jul 5, 2017 at 11:31 AM - daniel871: Joel Telling seemed to be impressed with it, but he has a hard time saying bad things about any printer.
Jul 5, 2017 at 11:31 AM - daniel871: That Kodama Obsidian review was hilarious with how he avoided saying "This thing is a piece of shit!"
Jul 5, 2017 at 11:38 AM - Geof: lol. I think they all have a hard time saying bad things about machines they are sent. I perfer a hands on approach vs a reviewers opinion anyway. The CR10 could be a great machine. Out of the box...its ok.
Jul 5, 2017 at 11:38 AM - Geof: just not impressed with it. It needs work that a "holy grail" machine doesn't lol. That said if you dont want to spend 3k for a large format machine...sure lol its great
Jul 5, 2017 at 11:39 AM - Geof: I had no issues spending the cash for the ROI. The CR10 is a toy ;)
    Jul 5, 2017 at 11:45 AM - daniel871: Most hobby-level 3d printers are toys. :p
Jul 5, 2017 at 11:46 AM - daniel871: I liked Tom Sanladerer's "You could do a lot worse than this for $350" when he did his live build (and the price was actually $350 vs. whatever it is now).
Jul 5, 2017 at 12:15 PM - Geof: lol depends on how you use them and what quality I suppose ;). I defianently dont consider the ones in the farm a toy ;) they pay the bills lol
Jul 5, 2017 at 12:16 PM - Geof: lol that might actually be the best way I've heard that printer described so far
Jul 5, 2017 at 5:37 PM - daniel871: I'm in the process of printing solid MPCNC components in PETG. The parts printed so far are like fricking rocks with no visible damage from my very un-scientific "drop a 10-lb steel weight on top of each piece from shoulder height to see if it breaks" test.
Jul 5, 2017 at 5:39 PM - daniel871: I figure if they can take that punishment they can handle a larger build with thick wall structural tubing.
Jul 5, 2017 at 7:05 PM - KRGraphicsCG: :( Feeling a bit let down today... got my printer... LCD is busted

    Jul 6, 2017 at 4:03 AM - daniel871: Which printer?
Jul 6, 2017 at 4:03 AM - daniel871: Also, did you go here for RMA support? https://robo3d.com/contact-us/
    Jul 6, 2017 at 4:05 AM - daniel871: Nevermind, just saw your thread. Seconding Waldo's advice to use Amazon's built-in return/refund system.
    Jul 6, 2017 at 4:58 AM - KRGraphicsCG: I was quite furious
Jul 6, 2017 at 5:38 AM - WheresWaldo: Shit happens
Jul 6, 2017 at 5:50 AM - daniel871: Life is a Bitch and then you die.
Jul 6, 2017 at 5:55 AM - KRGraphicsCG: I will try again... Amazon was cool though and granting me a refund
Jul 6, 2017 at 5:55 AM - KRGraphicsCG: Just gotta send the printer back
Jul 6, 2017 at 5:59 AM - daniel871: At least with Amazon you'll get prompt responses.
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:01 AM - KRGraphicsCG: Yep. And Robo is an Authorized Seller on Amazon... so this was painless
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:23 AM - Geof: that is the best way of going about it, sorry to hear about the bad luck.
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:35 AM - Geof: Daniel seems intense testing you were doing for those parts lol
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:40 AM - daniel871: Yeah. So far I'm impressed because none of them are deforming/cracking/even getting marked up.
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:42 AM - daniel871: Haven't done the math on how much force a 10-lb weight will strike an object with after falling about 64", though.
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:45 AM - daniel871: Hm, speed at impact would be about 20km/h and the energy imparted is about 72 Joules.
    Jul 6, 2017 at 6:46 AM - daniel871: Which converts to 53 foot-pounds of force...
    Jul 6, 2017 at 6:46 AM - Geof: I would have just said a bit ;)
    Jul 6, 2017 at 6:46 AM - Geof: lol
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:46 AM - daniel871: I'm not going to take the time to figure out the PSI at point of impact.
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:47 AM - daniel871: I used this "splat calculator" for the falling speed and energy at impact: https://www.angio.net/personal/climb/speed.html
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:47 AM - daniel871: And a unit conversion application we have at work to go back and forth between metric and imperial units.
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:57 AM - Geof: ;) your puttin to much thought into it man lol
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:57 AM - Geof: i go with ...yea strong enough probably ;) lol
Jul 6, 2017 at 7:39 AM - daniel871: We'll see. The table it will eventually be set up on will be tilted on an angle so I figure I'll need to design/add a rolling support for the side closest to Y-zero.
Jul 6, 2017 at 7:54 AM - daniel871: This was a neat article. https://ultimaker.com/en/stories/43...ncy with 3D printed tools, jigs, and fixtures
Jul 6, 2017 at 8:02 AM - Geof: yea they emailed that to me (somehow I'm on their email list from when I bought my ultimaker?) lol
Jul 6, 2017 at 8:02 AM - Geof: its a pretty good read
Jul 6, 2017 at 11:18 AM - daniel871: Just got an update email about the Monoprice Delta. They claim the S3D license that was bundled with the printer in some packages is good for installing on 3 machines. I sent an email to question it but did S3D change their license policy recently?
    Jul 6, 2017 at 12:05 PM - Geof: not that I'm aware of. 2 machines...period.
    Jul 6, 2017 at 12:05 PM - Geof: I just tried to add my account to a 3rd machine...nope.
Jul 6, 2017 at 12:37 PM - daniel871: Just checked their website and it still says a single license is allowed to be installed on 2 machines. Must be a typo.
Jul 6, 2017 at 12:37 PM - daniel871: One hell of a typo to get people excited about though.
Jul 6, 2017 at 1:43 PM - daniel871: Ok, updated email just came in where they issued a correction and apology for any confusion.
Jul 6, 2017 at 6:56 PM - KRGraphicsCG: Finally got Cura on my laptop... take that Avast
Jul 6, 2017 at 7:21 PM - Matthew Bartlett: Wow! I’d expected the forum to be much more talkative about the new printer. ;)

Jul 6, 2017 9:20 PM - KRGraphicsCG: Holy Crap, Cura is FREAKING COOL!
Jul 7, 2017 3:50 AM - daniel871: Making progress on the MPCNC printed parts: http://i.imgur.com/54ecnbC.jpg
Jul 7, 2017 3:51 AM - daniel871: Look pretty good for .5mm layer height, I think (though there is some light stringing and surface finish blemishes).
Jul 7, 2017 8:30 AM - OutsourcedGuru: @daniel871 Looking good. What's up with that gear?
Jul 7, 2017 8:31 AM - OutsourcedGuru: @KRGraphicsCG Yep, yep... I use Cura myself, too.
Jul 7, 2017 8:33 AM - OutsourcedGuru: @daniel871 The standard for software licensing for a couple decades has been two computers to allow people to have a backup, mostly.
    Jul 7, 2017 9:12 AM - daniel871: What gear?
    Jul 7, 2017 9:13 AM - daniel871: It's a "pineapple coupling" for the MPCNC design.
    Jul 7, 2017 9:13 AM - daniel871: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1671517
Jul 7, 2017 12:44 PM - daniel871: For anybody looking to buy bulk filament: https://www.pushplastic.com/collections/3-kg-bulk-reel
    Jul 7, 2017 12:44 PM - daniel871: 3kg, 10kg & 25kg rolls. Holy LOL.
Jul 7, 2017 12:45 PM - daniel871: I may keep them bookmarked and buy a comedy PETG spool after building something to hold it behind my printers.
Jul 7, 2017 12:45 PM - daniel871: (no way I'd get PLA or ABS on a spool that big unless I had something big enough to rapidly use it up in prints)
Jul 7, 2017 1:21 PM - danzca6: up to 50 kg...the hell? that would need its own motor to turn the roll
Jul 7, 2017 1:28 PM - daniel871: Be one hell of a way to test a Bondtech BMG setup.
    Jul 7, 2017 1:28 PM - daniel871: :p
    Jul 7, 2017 1:34 PM - danzca6: I was thinking a briggs and stratton
    Jul 7, 2017 1:36 PM - OutsourcedGuru: @daniel871 Ohhhhhh... now that's a weird gear.
Jul 7, 2017 1:37 PM - OutsourcedGuru: That bulk filament would be awesome if you had a BlackBelt
Jul 7, 2017 1:39 PM - daniel871: I was thinking a printer like that or one of the BigRepOne machines or something would be about the only machines worth using it with.
    Jul 7, 2017 1:39 PM - daniel871: Maybe the "big daddy" delta.
Jul 7, 2017 1:39 PM - daniel871: Someone should send that to the Printrbot folks asking if their Printrbelt can handle it.
Jul 7, 2017 1:40 PM - OutsourcedGuru: Working on my design for the Ikea mount
Jul 7, 2017 1:40 PM - OutsourcedGuru: In theory, it'll be easier to change filament. Where I've got it now is a pain... and it threatens to jump off the holder all the time.
    Jul 7, 2017 1:41 PM - OutsourcedGuru: I'll add a follower/guide to prevent that cross-threading problem
Jul 7, 2017 1:43 PM - OutsourcedGuru: New motto: the bigger the spool, the bigger the "modern art" (from mistakes) you could create.
Jul 7, 2017 2:52 PM - danzca6: did you all hear that printrbot is reducing the price of the printrbelt $1499 from $2K
Jul 7, 2017 2:55 PM - danzca6: They are refunding the difference to those that already put the order in
Jul 7, 2017 4:00 PM - daniel871: Wasn't it "on sale" for that price anyway?
    Jul 7, 2017 4:00 PM - daniel871: For like a day, but still.
Jul 7, 2017 8:01 PM - KRGraphicsCG: Sent my printer off
Jul 7, 2017 8:01 PM - KRGraphicsCG: should have a new one next friday

Jul 8, 2017 at 10:11 PM - KRGraphicsCG: @OutsourcedGuru I have my eye on the R2 as well
Jul 8, 2017 at 10:12 PM - KRGraphicsCG: Wish the damn screen wasn't busted... Robo sent me a new screen
Jul 9, 2017 at 6:39 PM - OutsourcedGuru: @KRGraphicsCG It's got a good (small) size to it (the C2). It would be nice to have that bigger print volume but the price was right for me. It honestly seemed crazy inexpensive for what you were getting compared to the side-by-side competition at Fry's Electronics (San Diego).
Jul 9, 2017 at 6:39 PM - OutsourcedGuru: (Comparing it with other brands.)
Jul 9, 2017 at 6:50 PM - KRGraphicsCG: True. I may need to get my hands on a USB cord so I can plug the C2 into my laptop. And I am also buying simplify 3D
Jul 9, 2017 at 6:51 PM - KRGraphicsCG: The R2 is a nice size too, and I will most likely get it if I need super sized prints. And it looks visually beautiful
Jul 9, 2017 at 6:51 PM - KRGraphicsCG: I hope Robo explores SLA printing :D

    Jul 9, 2017 11:32 PM - Kilrah: I used all my R2's print volume twice already :)
Jul 9, 2017 11:33 PM - Kilrah: well not all dimensions at the same time, but all the height on one print and to the max X/Y on another
Jul 9, 2017 11:34 PM - Kilrah: Did this yesterday [IMG]
Jul 9, 2017 11:35 PM - Kilrah: Local "one day one deal" type store had an SLA printer yesterday... was hard to resist
    Jul 9, 2017 11:35 PM - Kilrah: XYZ Nobel 1.0A
Jul 9, 2017 11:36 PM - Kilrah: seemed like a nice affordable machine, but let down by the lock to manufacturer resins which are reported to be crap, so that helped passing the opportunity
Jul 9, 2017 11:37 PM - Kilrah: some users said they got awesome results when putting decent resin in the manuf's chipped containers, but of course costs a ton more
Jul 10, 2017 7:31 AM - Geof: Good morning all! Hope everyone had a great weekend!
    Jul 10, 2017 8:34 AM - OutsourcedGuru: @KRGraphicsCG I can't say that I've ever tethered my C2 yet. I just use wi-fi and shuttle GCODE on a USB drive.
Jul 10, 2017 8:35 AM - OutsourcedGuru: @Kilrah I just sent a job to my C2 last night which was within half a mm from the ceiling. ha
Jul 10, 2017 8:36 AM - OutsourcedGuru: @Kilrah What's with the $1086-$2000 price range for the street price on that XYZ?
Jul 10, 2017 8:36 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Oh... different models
Jul 10, 2017 8:38 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Have you seen the SLA that Disney labs have been doing in transparent media? http://blog.stratasys.com/2012/10/09/disney-research-light-up-the-future-with-3d-printing/
Jul 10, 2017 8:39 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Wait a minute, that doesn't look like SLA from this photo...
Jul 10, 2017 9:15 AM - WheresWaldo: Nope, not SLA, it is more akin to inkjet Stratasys calls it PolyJet
Jul 10, 2017 9:26 AM - Schlomo: anyone on here somewhat familiar with the basics of laser engraving?
    Jul 10, 2017 9:32 AM - Geof: not I. Sorry buddy.
Jul 10, 2017 10:51 AM - OutsourcedGuru: @Schlomo Closest I got was CNC of HDPE and marine-quality plywood
    Jul 10, 2017 10:52 AM - OutsourcedGuru: @Schlomo (no lasers, though)
Jul 10, 2017 10:53 AM - OutsourcedGuru: I've often thought about using the C2's second extruder slot for something other than an extruder.
    Jul 10, 2017 10:53 AM - OutsourcedGuru: See http://www.instructables.com/id/Modify-Velleman-K8200-3d-printer-to-laser-cutting/
Jul 10, 2017 10:55 AM - Schlomo: Ah yeah i got the jist of how to make it work down, i get my laser in the mail today, and wanted to see if someone had feedback on laser engraving paint on medal with a 2w laser
Jul 10, 2017 10:56 AM - Schlomo: my only real use case right now is to engrave my logo on a usb stick
Jul 10, 2017 10:56 AM - Schlomo: which the usb stick is powder coated of some sort
    Jul 10, 2017 10:56 AM - Schlomo: hoping 2w is enough lol
Jul 10, 2017 10:58 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Noting from the CNC world, you need a sacrificial bed for this stuff. The cutting tool is known and even expected to go below the base of Z.
Jul 10, 2017 10:59 AM - OutsourcedGuru: The part-to-engrave has to be firmly held in place by something. We used an industrial-sized vaccuum system.
    Jul 10, 2017 11:00 AM - OutsourcedGuru: vacuum
Jul 10, 2017 11:00 AM - Schlomo: 2w is not enough to cut through my aluminum print bed
Jul 10, 2017 11:00 AM - Schlomo: or even engrave it at all from what i've been reading
Jul 10, 2017 11:00 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Hence the sacrificial bed
    Jul 10, 2017 11:02 AM - OutsourcedGuru: http://www.rowmark.com/MARK/laser_guide/pages/intro.asp Here's a bit of information.
Jul 10, 2017 11:03 AM - OutsourcedGuru: You need good air flow to remove debris as fast as you're creating it.
Jul 10, 2017 11:04 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Look for the honeycomb insert near the bottom of that link.
    Jul 10, 2017 11:05 AM - OutsourcedGuru: ^ Read that as "2w is enought..."
Jul 10, 2017 11:05 AM - Schlomo: You might be taking this to the extreme end of what i'm actually trying to do, however that is a good read
    Jul 10, 2017 11:05 AM - Schlomo: you think so with 2w?
Jul 10, 2017 11:05 AM - OutsourcedGuru: There were times when all I did in a single day was to babysit the CNC and stack parts.
Jul 10, 2017 11:05 AM - Schlomo: i guess i'll give it a try, but anywho thanks for the info
Jul 10, 2017 11:05 AM - OutsourcedGuru: I just know that sometimes, you're stabbing through Z=0 by accident with bad GCODE
Jul 10, 2017 11:06 AM - Schlomo: interesting, well i'll put something as sacrificial sheeting goes down
Jul 10, 2017 11:06 AM - Schlomo: my printer is a CoreXY, so the bed only moves in Z
Jul 10, 2017 11:06 AM - OutsourcedGuru: And you might want to read about that lensing effect
Jul 10, 2017 11:07 AM - Schlomo: a small piece of carpet tape should keep my piece in place
Jul 10, 2017 11:07 AM - OutsourcedGuru: "Focal Length and Diameter"
Jul 10, 2017 11:08 AM - OutsourcedGuru: It's possible to tailor the exact color of the laser light to select different plastic layers, btw.
Jul 10, 2017 11:09 AM - OutsourcedGuru: ...or to adjust the height of the lens precisly to put the hot spot where you want it.
Jul 10, 2017 11:10 AM - Schlomo: Right, yeah this is an adjustable focal length laser
Jul 10, 2017 11:10 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Color me jealous
    Jul 10, 2017 11:11 AM - Schlomo: 445nm wavelength
    Jul 10, 2017 11:11 AM - OutsourcedGuru: sounds perfect
    Jul 10, 2017 11:12 AM - OutsourcedGuru: yeah, you're in the 2w zone
Jul 10, 2017 11:12 AM - Geof: schlomo...print a jig to hold all the USB sticks to do multiple at a time?
Jul 10, 2017 11:12 AM - Schlomo: Thats the plan
Jul 10, 2017 11:12 AM - OutsourcedGuru: This is going to be better for bright plastics...
    Jul 10, 2017 11:12 AM - OutsourcedGuru: but not really black/dark stuff
Jul 10, 2017 11:13 AM - Schlomo: Only real desire with this thing is to etch powder coat, and burn logo on wooden boxes
    Jul 10, 2017 11:13 AM - OutsourcedGuru: For dark stuff (IR-absorbing) you'd probably want an IR-diode at around 9-11A
Jul 10, 2017 11:14 AM - OutsourcedGuru: This probably wouldn't etch aluminum, for what it's worth
Jul 10, 2017 11:15 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Do you have a driver for this?
Jul 10, 2017 11:15 AM - OutsourcedGuru: You're interested in "constant current" as models go
    Jul 10, 2017 11:16 AM - OutsourcedGuru: http://jtechphotonics.com/?product=1-7w-445nm-laser-diode-and-2-0-amp-adjustable-driver-kit
Jul 10, 2017 11:16 AM - OutsourcedGuru: ...but that includes the diode
Jul 10, 2017 11:17 AM - OutsourcedGuru: Yours has an aluminum heatsink, right?
Jul 10, 2017 11:19 AM - OutsourcedGuru: *Without* the heatsink, you can likely only run that diode at 1A without it eventually burning up. The 2W assumes a good heatsink.
Jul 10, 2017 11:21 AM - OutsourcedGuru: If you enjoy having eyesight: https://jtechphotonics.com/?product=445nm-laser-shielding
    Jul 10, 2017 11:24 AM - Schlomo: its got a heatsink

Jul 10, 2017 11:43 AM - Kilrah: Interesting, I've been tempted to buy one of those lasers and mount it on the CNC
Jul 10, 2017 11:44 AM - Kilrah: must try and spare some time to look at the software side to be sure I get it though
Jul 10, 2017 11:44 AM - Kilrah: you find those modules (and more, 5W+) all over the place on sites like banggood
Jul 10, 2017 11:45 AM - Kilrah: friend told me 5W, or even 2 is already too much - but even with no direct experience I say no, you just can (and have to, that's the key) increase feedrates
Jul 10, 2017 4:36 PM - Schlomo: got it mounted and fired up. Seems to be working well. I need some glasses though, so i cant focus the beam but those should be here Wednesday. Until then, im just trying to figure out the coordinate system of Inkscape...

Jul 11, 2017 2:05 AM - Kilrah: looking into it right now, many options, 3.5/5.5/7/15W, hard to choose, 3.5 is significantly cheaper but the others are so close that 15 is probably the best choice if deciding to invest that much
Jul 11, 2017 2:06 AM - Kilrah: what glasses are you getting? that's one thing I don't want to get cheap chinese stuff for... will probably go with quality ones with proper specs i.e. costing more than the 3.5W laser
    Jul 11, 2017 6:21 AM - Geof: Good Morning !
    Jul 11, 2017 6:40 AM - daniel871: Morning.
    Jul 11, 2017 6:40 AM - daniel871: Testing a re-setup of Octoprint on my cheapo printer.
Jul 11, 2017 6:41 AM - daniel871: I need to adjust the time-lapse settings to have a few seconds of post-roll to see the finished print.
    Jul 11, 2017 6:42 AM - daniel871:
Jul 11, 2017 6:42 AM - daniel871: For whenever Youtube is finished processing it.
Jul 11, 2017 7:01 AM - Geof: whats that on? Havent had a chance to watch yet
Jul 11, 2017 7:04 AM - Kilrah: yup, these timelapses are cool
    Jul 11, 2017 7:04 AM - Kilrah:
Jul 11, 2017 7:10 AM - Kilrah: I need to install some led strips in my R2 though
Jul 11, 2017 7:33 AM - daniel871: It's on my favorite i3. The timelapse itself is just 25 seconds or so.
Jul 11, 2017 7:46 AM - OutsourcedGuru: I'm going to pretend that I already knew what "post-roll" meant.
Jul 11, 2017 7:48 AM - OutsourcedGuru: @Schlomo Get the orange filter and mount it on the printer. So you wouldn't actually need the safety goggles, which start to sweat-up after 4 nanoseconds.
Jul 11, 2017 7:49 AM - OutsourcedGuru: @Kilrah Read up with my comments earlier... "eyesight"

Jul 11, 2017 11:42 PM - Kilrah: @OutsourcedGuru I'd mount it to my CNC router instead of the printer, so it would be a bit impractical to make a cover huge enough...
Jul 12, 2017 4:14 AM - daniel871: If you aren't going to take safety with a laser seriously you shouldn't be playing with one.
Jul 12, 2017 6:56 AM - OutsourcedGuru: There at the manufacturing plant we installed two plexiglass walls (L-shaped) for the standard CNC style of cutter. The walls were high enough so that you could stand there at the console, see the job running and monitor both it and the computer. We had safety goggles available if you'd like to then go around the corner, closer to the action. But honestly, the glass made things easier.
Jul 12, 2017 1:47 PM - danzca6: Hey Daniel, did you see this sale? Use code MAKE15 to get the MP Select V2 for $254 ... https://www.monoprice.com/product?c...=13860&seq=1&format=2&AID=11051853&PID=404255
Jul 12, 2017 2:03 PM - daniel871: I got an email about a similar sale that applied to all of their printers last week, but didn't pull the trigger on the Ultimate because I'm waiting to see what comes out later this year/early next year.
Jul 12, 2017 2:07 PM - danzca6: good point, they have the new line that should start hitting the shelves this year
    Jul 12, 2017 5:02 PM - toymaker: i want a fiber laser
    Jul 12, 2017 5:07 PM - toymaker: but i would settle for a 300watt c02 laser...
Jul 12, 2017 5:46 PM - toymaker: http://imgur.com/vHl8Z7s 1 of 2 deltas... sucks i could never get the smoothie board working
Jul 12, 2017 7:25 PM - aaronwstone: So, I've never even seen a 3D printer in person.. Did a little (a freaking ton) of research and came across this R2. Ordered it, waited about 6 weeks to get it, and 24 hours later I'm printing.. Kinda cool.. Very frustrating at first (as I'm self teaching) but this is going to be great!

    Jul 12, 2017 10:31 PM - Kilrah: :)
Jul 13, 2017 12:20 AM - daniel871: I'm laughing at "did a ton of research" and "bought a printer that is almost never mentioned in 'good first 3d printers to learn on' discussions".
Jul 13, 2017 2:00 AM - Kilrah: Well, he did find one that has pretty much everything you'd want in a 3D printer, so... yep it seems that worked.
Jul 13, 2017 2:01 AM - Kilrah: Had he looked for "'good first 3d printers to learn on' discussions" he'd have found outdated stuff, not the newest that isn't in the discussions not becasue it's not a good choice but because it hasn't been reviewed yet...
Jul 13, 2017 3:04 AM - daniel871: Depends on the reference point and how you define "a lot of research".
    Jul 13, 2017 4:32 AM - JeffTheMess: Morning roboneers

Jul 13, 2017 5:49 AM - Bill Monroe: I do but since I got the CNC mill I'm not printing as much as I used to
Jul 13, 2017 1:02 PM - daniel871: Huh. Just got an email from the Monoprice Mini Delta campaign about the Beta Tester group sharing a bunch of pictures and videos in a Facebook Group. Lots of nice looking prints and amateur reviews.

Jul 14, 2017 6:58 AM - daniel871: I'm testing the Telegram plugin for Octoprint right now, seeing if something I sliced at work can be uploaded and printed remotely while I'm not home.
Jul 14, 2017 6:59 AM - daniel871: So far so good, uploaded and started, now to just see if it'll complete the print.
Jul 14, 2017 6:59 AM - daniel871: Technically a success since the file uploaded and started printing, but if everything finishes smoothly it'll be pretty neat (and then I just have to figure out a way to dislodge/remove prints after they are done.
Jul 14, 2017 7:02 AM - Geof: link to details on this? Would be good to have for my Type A since its at work and I'm not always! :D
Jul 14, 2017 7:02 AM - Geof: Do you have full functionality or just the ability to start the print remotely? (cam work, temp controls etc)
Jul 14, 2017 7:23 AM - daniel871: Most of the functionality is there. It's just a little more cumbersome than direct Octoprint access.
Jul 14, 2017 7:24 AM - Geof: Got ya. Interested to hear your thoughts on it after you've used it a few times :D
Jul 14, 2017 7:24 AM - daniel871: Right now it can only access files on Octoprint and not the SD card on the printer itself, but that functionality is supposed to be coming in future updates of the plugin.
    Jul 14, 2017 7:24 AM - daniel871: Here is the page about it: http://plugins.octoprint.org/plugins/telegram/
Jul 14, 2017 7:26 AM - Geof: Can you access the sliced gcode stored in Octo?
Jul 14, 2017 7:26 AM - Geof: thank you for the link
Jul 14, 2017 7:26 AM - daniel871: It's basically a chatroom on telegram under the bot name you give it.
Jul 14, 2017 7:26 AM - daniel871: Yeah. I did it just before posting here about it.
    Jul 14, 2017 7:27 AM - Geof: Very cool
    Jul 14, 2017 7:27 AM - daniel871: Actually let's test that.
Jul 14, 2017 7:28 AM - daniel871: If you can query for /status, it means you can use other commands and I need to do something about the security of the channel.
Jul 14, 2017 7:29 AM - daniel871: Also I'm kind of curious what a random internet person sees if they join that chat channel
Jul 14, 2017 7:29 AM - Geof: Let me get a sign in name and what not
    Jul 14, 2017 7:31 AM - daniel871: Ok.
Jul 14, 2017 7:32 AM - Geof: lets move it to a PM so your info isn't out there just in case.
Jul 14, 2017 7:33 AM - daniel871: Alright, deleting the earlier link and sending you a PM.
Jul 14, 2017 7:35 AM - daniel871: If it works well for me, it shouldn't be that hard to implement on R1s with Octopi or the C2/R2. Just install the plug-in and go through the steps (and install the Telegram app on your phone/tablet or use the web browser page for Telegram).
Jul 14, 2017 7:36 AM - daniel871: Slightly more trouble than direct access at home, but less trouble than setting up a VPN and port forwarding (I think).

    Jul 14, 2017 8:19 AM - daniel871: Going well so far.

Jul 14, 2017 10:10 AM - daniel871: Got my kid brother to get it and take a picture of it on a different surface and I can't tell very well if what I'm seeing are underextrusion lines or the refraction in that particular filament.
    Jul 14, 2017 10:10 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
Jul 14, 2017 10:18 AM - Geof: hard telling but looks like underextrusion or skipped steps
Jul 14, 2017 11:51 AM - daniel871: It's supposed to be "clear" PETG and I noticed the filament had what looked like sparkling bits in it that were probably more like tiny air bubbles.
Jul 14, 2017 11:52 AM - daniel871: I won't know until I get home for sure, but it probably got a lot of those little bubbles close together. I've not been seeing underextrusion in my regular parts.
Jul 14, 2017 11:52 AM - daniel871: That or something is going wrong with my extruder/stepper/stepper driver. :eek:hdear:

Jul 17, 2017 6:11 AM - daniel871: Man, I hate knowing that things like Printrbelt and Blackbelt printers exist now. I spent the last week thinking "I wish I had something that would automatically unload prints when they were done now that I've got things just printing without failures".
Jul 17, 2017 6:12 AM - daniel871: And don't post that stupid MatterHackers punching machine gag.
Jul 17, 2017 7:13 AM - Geof: yea that was a joke. I'm not a fan of the slanted printing but continous is awesome.
Jul 17, 2017 7:14 AM - Geof: though I am out on any new acquisitions since I've got a UM3 ext. coming
Jul 17, 2017 7:36 AM - daniel871: It's a shame the X/Z carriage is only *just* rigid enough for 3d printing. If it was a beefier machine I'd print a sled to replace the cooling fan that was just above nozzle height and have an ending G-code script that would basically ram the part off of the bed.
Jul 17, 2017 7:37 AM - daniel871: I figure doing that for real would just warp the rods on the X-axis and not dislodge any part with good bed adhesion, though.
Jul 17, 2017 7:37 AM - daniel871: (or at the very least cause the Y-axis belt to skip/strip at the point of impact)
Jul 17, 2017 7:50 AM - Geof: yea likley cause more issues lol
Jul 17, 2017 7:55 AM - daniel871: Might work for the tiny 3d printer somewhere out there that uses leadscrews for all axes though. Can't remember the name of it.
Jul 17, 2017 7:59 AM - daniel871: May have just been the mods out there for the Prusa i3.
    Jul 17, 2017 8:00 AM - daniel871: Yeah, X-axis here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:641033 and Y axis here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:561143
Jul 17, 2017 9:10 AM - Geof: lol those are some silly mods ;)
Jul 17, 2017 9:36 AM - daniel871: Eh. I like the general concept, but it kind of falls apart when the anchoring parts aren't made out of steel.
Jul 17, 2017 9:38 AM - daniel871: Also it would probably be easier to buy steppers with integrated leadscrews rather than bother with couplings.
Jul 17, 2017 1:03 PM - Geof: meh I just am not a fan of the idea of "ball driven " :D perfer a belt I can tension and bearings I can change ;)
Jul 17, 2017 1:18 PM - KRGraphicsCG: Got my C2... and I love it :)... it is WHISPER QUIET
Jul 17, 2017 1:30 PM - daniel871: Meh. I wish I had the money to build a 3d printer with the frame based on the CNC setup similar to what we have at work. Worm/screw gear on Y & Z and rack-and-pinion X-axis.
Jul 17, 2017 1:33 PM - KRGraphicsCG: Ok, some metal thing just fell from the machine... this tiny screw socket thing
Jul 17, 2017 1:33 PM - KRGraphicsCG: I see it, it came out of the gantry
Jul 17, 2017 1:34 PM - KRGraphicsCG: can't put it back in right now, the machine is running
Jul 17, 2017 1:40 PM - daniel871: Probably just the set screw for one of the smooth rods. It'll be fine until it isn't.
Jul 17, 2017 1:49 PM - KRGraphicsCG: I will put it back in when the print is done. Also the vibration from the machine is kinda strong. I will have to find a way to lessen the shock
Jul 17, 2017 1:51 PM - KRGraphicsCG: I'm also curious about the onboard slicing
Jul 17, 2017 1:57 PM - daniel871: I wouldn't put too much faith in it. It's literally the same slicing mechanism that is used in the generic Octoprint installation (with all of the bugs and caveats that entails). Any given PC is going to be faster and better than the onboard system.
Jul 17, 2017 2:12 PM - KRGraphicsCG: And I have Cura 2.5 installed on my laptop. Though I have had issues with trying to load OBJ files into it. So I will have to use STLs and learn how to export at the same scale as my source mesh
Jul 17, 2017 6:39 PM - KRGraphicsCG: There are SO many settings in Cura... decided to print my maker coin... and tomorrow, a coaster for my drink
Jul 17, 2017 7:51 PM - KRGraphicsCG: Just dodged a bullet... damn bed wouldn't raise
