    Oct 16, 2017 7:44 AM - Geof: lol :D Lazy lol.
Oct 16, 2017 7:45 AM - daniel871: I'm trying to figure out a way to do that on the mini delta. It gets annoying having it do that by default every time you print but I'm not sure how critical it is to actually do it after homing given that it homes at the top vs. the actual build plate before probing it.
Oct 16, 2017 7:46 AM - WheresWaldo: All automated leveling schemes rely on endstops, so it has to home somewhere.
Oct 16, 2017 7:47 AM - WheresWaldo: Does the MiniDelta use Marlin?
Oct 16, 2017 7:47 AM - daniel871: I don't mind homing at the actual endstops, it's the probing the bed every time it homes.
Oct 16, 2017 7:47 AM - daniel871: Currently unknown. It uses the same control board as the Maker Select mini V2 which is supposedly a Malyan M200 board, but not much is out there.
Oct 16, 2017 7:48 AM - Geof: is it actually doing mesh? Or just autolevel dance?
Oct 16, 2017 7:49 AM - WheresWaldo: They could be proprietary and I am not sure that anyone else has implemented UBL. I am pretty sure even Prusa isn't using the UBL code in his modified Marlin.
Oct 16, 2017 7:49 AM - daniel871: It's doing some kind of autolevel dance, triggering endstops underneath the buildplate when it presses against it.
Oct 16, 2017 7:49 AM - WheresWaldo: Is there source available?
Oct 16, 2017 7:50 AM - daniel871: Nope. Everything about the board is closed source other than knowing it has a 32-bit processor in it.
Oct 16, 2017 7:51 AM - WheresWaldo: Then you may be out of luck.
Oct 16, 2017 7:53 AM - daniel871: I know. That's why I'm thinking about just running a program by itself that has the homing/probing process in it with M500 at the end (it does respond to and recognize standard Reprap Gcodes) and then run another program with just G28 and then printing.
Oct 16, 2017 7:54 AM - daniel871: Worst case scenario I have to quickly cycle the power to stop it from tearing itself apart.
Oct 16, 2017 7:54 AM - WheresWaldo: Dan, is EEPROM enabled, I thought that was a Marlin thing?
Oct 16, 2017 7:57 AM - daniel871: It's not just a Marlin thing. And yes. You get a "Config saved" response in the terminal when issuing M500.
Oct 16, 2017 7:58 AM - daniel871: I think I read somewhere that it actually goes all the way back to GRBL for the G/Mcodes with some custom bits to run on an even further customized linux installation on the board.
    Oct 16, 2017 8:07 AM - WheresWaldo: Interesting.
    Oct 16, 2017 8:37 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
    Oct 16, 2017 9:00 AM - danzca6: maybe it's a good thing that I don't even know what the bottom two shows are. :)
    Oct 16, 2017 9:01 AM - WheresWaldo: Danz, I posted 1.1.6 in the R1 forum.
    Oct 16, 2017 9:05 AM - daniel871: Always Sunny and FRIENDS.
Oct 16, 2017 9:05 AM - daniel871: Always Sunny in Philadelphia is great and everyone should watch it. FRIENDS is a dumpster fire and I'm glad that show ended and isn't on the air any more.
Oct 16, 2017 9:08 AM - danzca6: WW....thanks...you didn't need to go to that trouble though. I would have updated it for you. But since you did...thanks man. Very appreciated
    Oct 16, 2017 9:08 AM - WheresWaldo: Last time for the R1 ;)
    Oct 16, 2017 9:09 AM - danzca6: Ok...I'll pick it up from here
Oct 16, 2017 9:09 AM - danzca6: ok, Friends I do remember seeing a bit of. It was dumb.
Oct 16, 2017 9:10 AM - daniel871: Dumb, also none of the people were actually friends with any of the other people. They were the absolute worst to each other.
    Oct 16, 2017 9:10 AM - danzca6: The M600 fix was one thing I was looking for in 1.1.6
Oct 16, 2017 9:11 AM - danzca6: maybe that's what friends in NYC are like
Oct 16, 2017 9:11 AM - daniel871: This video was pretty funny the first time I watched it because other people think I'm crazy when I say this:
Oct 16, 2017 9:14 AM - WheresWaldo: Issue 7811 fixes an problem for you?
Oct 16, 2017 9:23 AM - danzca6: I hadn't run into that issue yet, but use m600 and thought the fix would be good to have

    Oct 17, 2017 5:33 AM - danzca6: keeping it classy as always ;)
    Oct 17, 2017 5:34 AM - danzca6: Cura 3.0 is released https://ultimaker.com/en/products/cura-software/release-notes
Oct 17, 2017 5:35 AM - danzca6: funny that I find myself using Cura 1.5 at times. Mostly because it is the shortcut that is on my start menu first :) Now if 3.0 had custom supports....when will anyone else support that feature?
Oct 17, 2017 5:38 AM - Geof: Once they figure out how S3D is going it so well :D lol
Oct 17, 2017 5:39 AM - danzca6: it seems to be the biggest secret
    Oct 17, 2017 5:40 AM - danzca6: how are things going Geof
Oct 17, 2017 5:47 AM - Geof: Goin good Danz! Running a crap load of huge props lol
Oct 17, 2017 5:47 AM - Geof: hilariously epic fails on the Gmax, Prusa and my original R1+ lol. R2 and Type A are holding up the fort lol
Oct 17, 2017 5:58 AM - danzca6: I saw the big mallet/hammer you are printing. I guess prop making is big now with Halloween around the corner
Oct 17, 2017 5:59 AM - Geof: Every halloween it blows up lol
Oct 17, 2017 5:59 AM - Geof: theres batman, harley quinn and wonder woman so far being done. Then the lady had to have the zelda sword lol
Oct 17, 2017 6:00 AM - Geof: The mallet is the prints I'm having issues with lol. Not suprising as they are gigantic lol
Oct 17, 2017 6:01 AM - danzca6: looks like the R2 is doing well for you. That's good to see. Hopefully the bugs are being worked out in production and delivery
Oct 17, 2017 6:02 AM - Geof: It is doing suprisingly well. Have a bad cable to the touchs creen and a pogo pin that failed. Both parts were shipped out when found bad.
Oct 17, 2017 6:02 AM - Geof: other than that i've been printing quite a bit. It has done surprisingly well. I'm a bit taken back by the performance so far. Wasn't expecting it.
    Oct 17, 2017 6:04 AM - danzca6: Any luck getting a new R1 bed?
Oct 17, 2017 6:19 AM - Geof: Not yet. They are out for now, more inbound. They are looking around to find me one that will work.
Oct 17, 2017 6:47 AM - daniel871: I still have an R1 bed with a much bigger heater element on it that I never got around to implementing in a project. Only bad thing there is I'd be afraid of it breaking in shipment.
Oct 17, 2017 6:49 AM - Geof: Yep thats what happens to literally every Robo that I get shipped to me lol. Bed ends up shattered.
    Oct 17, 2017 6:49 AM - daniel871: Has this heater on it. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/240...adhesive-back-NTC-Thermistor/32412799214.html
Oct 17, 2017 6:50 AM - daniel871: Way overkill, theoretically can go to 200C so it would probably do great for pretty much anything once you had an enclosure around it.
Oct 17, 2017 6:53 AM - Geof: Good lord. Went all out eh?
Oct 17, 2017 6:53 AM - daniel871: Yeah, problem there is it's smaller than I want to go on a custom build. :p
    Oct 17, 2017 6:54 AM - Geof: LOL
Oct 17, 2017 6:55 AM - daniel871: Mini delta is now up and running a deprime test with the Titan, finally.
Oct 17, 2017 6:56 AM - Geof: Nice! I'm a big fan of the titan
Oct 17, 2017 6:56 AM - daniel871: Odd problem setting it up, if I tightened the screws on the outer plate, like, at all, beyond just touching said plate, it would bind up enough to prevent the stepper from turning.
Oct 17, 2017 6:57 AM - daniel871: Slightly loosen the outer face screws? Run fine.
Oct 17, 2017 6:58 AM - Geof: That is odd. Do you have the correct length shaft on the stepper?
Oct 17, 2017 7:18 AM - daniel871: Pretty sure, doesn't much matter though since there is a thru hole for the shaft to go out if it is too long.
    Oct 17, 2017 7:18 AM - daniel871: Got all the gears/etc. lined up.
Oct 17, 2017 7:19 AM - daniel871: You know, if the shaft OD is correct for using the gear (5mm), there is a 6mm hole in the cover.
Oct 17, 2017 7:20 AM - daniel871: Not sure what the current Titan is like though. This is the really old one back when PrintedSolid got some early editions and shared them with people here who intended to put them on the R1.
    Oct 17, 2017 7:21 AM - daniel871: Best laid plans and all.
Oct 17, 2017 7:23 AM - Geof: Yea mine does not have a through hole
Oct 17, 2017 7:23 AM - Geof: wierd. I havent run into that, maybe a fitment issue on the older ones they fixed.
Oct 17, 2017 7:26 AM - daniel871: Hm. Still getting the "stripping out on retractions" deal even with the Titan.
Oct 17, 2017 7:26 AM - daniel871: Bad thing is, I have to remove the face plate to extract filament on the Titan.
Oct 17, 2017 7:27 AM - daniel871: Well. Not as bad as the stock setup where if it strips there's nothing there to grab and remove.
Oct 17, 2017 7:30 AM - Geof: either retracting to fast or to much
    Oct 17, 2017 7:31 AM - daniel871: Using 5mm distance/35mm speed on Bowden.
Oct 17, 2017 7:32 AM - Geof: thats odd. Should be find I'd imagine. Wonder if the bowden tube is suspect.
Oct 17, 2017 7:32 AM - Geof: might want to swap it if you have another layin around
Oct 17, 2017 7:33 AM - daniel871: That's a bit of a problem if it is the issue. It runs through a wire bundle/wrap to the hotend.
    Oct 17, 2017 7:33 AM - daniel871: Really don't want to undo the currently clean bundle. :p
    Oct 17, 2017 7:37 AM - Geof: may be causing drag :D
Oct 17, 2017 7:38 AM - Geof: http://www.popularmechanics.com/tec...erbot-labs-open-source-experimental-extruder/ anyone see this about makerbot going "sort of open source" again lol
Oct 17, 2017 7:42 AM - daniel871: "Please help us develop a better extruder so we can go closed source again after making a minor iteration on something the community develops that works"
    Oct 17, 2017 7:43 AM - Geof: lol ;)
Oct 17, 2017 7:43 AM - Geof: thought it was a pretty funny read. Last ditch effort?
    Oct 17, 2017 7:50 AM - daniel871: Eh, I don't care that much about anything Makerbot does.
Oct 17, 2017 7:50 AM - daniel871: This retraction/stripping filament issue is bugging the hell out of me though.
Oct 17, 2017 7:52 AM - Geof: Change that bowden man.
Oct 17, 2017 7:53 AM - Geof: And the makerbot thing I Just find funny at this point. Apparently this is a new extruder- no warranty and not covered under what they call makerbot care lol
Oct 17, 2017 7:54 AM - Geof: So you buy this no questions or returns, install it and have experimental software to "tweak" kind of lol. I have a few of the 5th gens I work on for people and it might save those machines from being door stops but hard tellin
Oct 17, 2017 7:54 AM - Geof: (I doubt anything will really save it lol)
Oct 17, 2017 7:56 AM - daniel871: I'm still laughing at the Makerbots for sale on Facebook Marketplace that nobody is willing to pay full retail for.
Oct 17, 2017 8:08 AM - Geof: nobody really buys used machines anymore unless there so cheap you cant say no...and most people know you cant do much with a makerbot lol
Oct 17, 2017 8:54 AM - daniel871: Okay, so, the Titan doesn't care for woodfill, but fingers crossed the Raptor PLA seems to be printing properly.
Oct 17, 2017 8:55 AM - daniel871: Won't know for sure until the print gets up to the "peaks" in the Deprime object and the retraction party starts, though.
    Oct 17, 2017 8:58 AM - daniel871: Literally spoke too soon.
    Oct 17, 2017 8:58 AM - daniel871: I heard it strip that time.
Oct 17, 2017 9:02 AM - daniel871: Wish I had some PETG to feed though it and sanity check myself that the PLA spools I have here are just too soft.
    Oct 17, 2017 9:02 AM - daniel871: 3mm retraction and 20mm/s still strips.
Oct 17, 2017 9:07 AM - Geof: serious? How long is your bowden tube?
Oct 17, 2017 9:10 AM - Geof: If its not very long drop it down to direct drive settings and slowly increase until the blobs and zits are gone, then you can work with coast
Oct 17, 2017 9:11 AM - daniel871: It's not that long, barely long enough to make the distance from the cold end to the hotend at the furthest point away from it when touching the build plate.
Oct 17, 2017 9:12 AM - Geof: from extruder to hotend I mean
Oct 17, 2017 9:13 AM - daniel871: Currently running a "retraction disabled, using wipe & coast starting with S3D's initial settings when you activate those options"
Oct 17, 2017 9:14 AM - daniel871: I say running. It's preheating the bed for it now after allowing a total cooldown and power cycle of the machine.
Oct 17, 2017 9:14 AM - Geof: be sure to post a pic. Will be interested to see. Coast is something I normally hate, but on my bowdens it saves retraction distance at times and extra restart distance. So many retractions of 5mm will pull it out into the cold end and bamo!
Oct 17, 2017 9:20 AM - daniel871: I will if it succeeds (and maybe if it doesn't as well). It'd be nice to have a print finish even if it didn't look perfect.
Oct 17, 2017 9:21 AM - daniel871: On the other hand, it'd be hilarious to burn through all of my PLA trying to tune in settings for PLA.
Oct 17, 2017 9:25 AM - daniel871: And by hilarious I mean "extremely frustrating and highly unlikely to happen, I'll trash the material and go back to known good settings in known good material first" :p
Oct 17, 2017 9:25 AM - Geof: lol solid call
    Oct 17, 2017 9:26 AM - daniel871: Looks like Cura 3.0 is out.
    Oct 17, 2017 9:27 AM - daniel871: https://ultimaker.com/en/products/cura-software/release-notes
Oct 17, 2017 9:27 AM - daniel871: Oh shit Solidworks integration for the people with money to own a legal license of Solidworks.
Oct 17, 2017 9:29 AM - Geof: yea I have it downloaded but have not messed with it yet. I always give them a week or two on a new release of cura before I risk my Ultimaker with it lol
Oct 17, 2017 9:31 AM - daniel871: Well, so far it's printing, but there is the expected stringing. Hm.
Oct 17, 2017 9:33 AM - daniel871: Oh god damnit, spoke too soon again.
    Oct 17, 2017 9:36 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
Oct 17, 2017 9:37 AM - daniel871: Need to print a John Carpenter's Thing model if I ever get the settings dialed in for this particular spool.
    Oct 17, 2017 9:39 AM - daniel871: .2mm layer heights, .4mm nozzle, Raptor PLA, no Retraction, 6mm Wipe, .2mm Coast, 3 shells, 4 solid bottom, 4 solid top, 15% infill Hexagon.
    Oct 17, 2017 9:39 AM - daniel871: 1.0 extrusion multiplier.
Oct 17, 2017 9:47 AM - Geof: I think you should make sure that bowden isnt' squishing the filament
Oct 17, 2017 10:03 AM - daniel871: How would I go about doing that? The tube ID measures right at 2mm at each end. Can't really physically measure it without slicing it up. And the flow of plastic feels unimpeded when manually loading it until it "hits" the hotend itself.
Oct 17, 2017 10:04 AM - danzca6: daniel, do you have a pic of the hobb gear? they had a change after the first printed solid ones. They replaced mine for free
    Oct 17, 2017 10:06 AM - Geof: Oh ! I forgot about that danz!
Oct 17, 2017 10:07 AM - Geof: Daniel I more or less push filament through by hand and see if it feels restricted when pulling in and out quickly.
Oct 17, 2017 10:07 AM - Geof: If yes I replace or if I suspect it I replace with known good.
Oct 17, 2017 10:08 AM - daniel871: I can't seem to get my camera phone to focus on the gear itself, keeps blurring it out into a useless metallic blur between the plastic gear and face plate.
Oct 17, 2017 10:13 AM - daniel871: Best I can get, notice how the ceiling 8 feet away is in perfect focus. [IMG]
Oct 17, 2017 10:14 AM - daniel871: Teeth of the actual gear are clean, in spite of the stripping of material (shredded bits fall off as gear turns).
Oct 17, 2017 10:14 AM - mark tomlinson: Hard to do Macro Photography with a cell phone :)
    Oct 17, 2017 10:14 AM - daniel871: Yep.
Oct 17, 2017 10:15 AM - daniel871: If it wasn't for stinking up the office I'd send some fucking ABS thru it and see if that stripped.
Oct 17, 2017 10:18 AM - daniel871: Put that Makergeeks "Our Maker ABS doesn't stink like other brands of ABS" claim to the test.
Oct 17, 2017 10:19 AM - daniel871: One more try with reset to standard retraction distances and settings for Direct drive on my Maker Select V2.1, but under Advanced only retracting when crossing open spaces longer than 3mm.
Oct 17, 2017 10:20 AM - daniel871: No Wipe or Coasting of any kind, only 1.5mm retraction.

Oct 17, 2017 10:20 AM - daniel871: (but only when crossing open spaces).
Oct 17, 2017 10:39 AM - danzca6: yep...that is the style of cut teeth that had the issue
    Oct 17, 2017 10:39 AM - danzca6: let me see if I can find a pic
Oct 17, 2017 10:40 AM - danzca6: This is what the new style looks like https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0...05-16_at_11.18.59_AM_grande2.png?v=1494195705
Oct 17, 2017 10:43 AM - danzca6: This is the thread on their forum that first talked about that https://forum.e3d-online.com/index.php?threads/titan-not-extruding-correctly.1214/
Oct 17, 2017 10:59 AM - daniel871: Probably far, far too late to get a warranty hob, lol.
    Oct 17, 2017 11:02 AM - danzca6: hahah...maybe. They are about $25 I've seen
Oct 17, 2017 11:04 AM - daniel871: That and the thumbwheel, Holy shit I hate having to dig for an allen wrench to adjust tension.
Oct 17, 2017 11:07 AM - danzca6: oh yeah I bought one of those as well during a sale
Oct 17, 2017 11:08 AM - danzca6: I tried to find one that was similar for cheap, but I just got the real deal
Oct 17, 2017 11:11 AM - danzca6: $4 for one thumbwheel seemed $$$...I wonder if Matt at PS sells parts of the titan?
Oct 17, 2017 11:13 AM - daniel871: He has the hobbed wheel for $38 but no thumb wheel.
    Oct 17, 2017 11:13 AM - danzca6: $38? Is that the hardened version?
    Oct 17, 2017 11:13 AM - danzca6: seems high
    Oct 17, 2017 11:14 AM - danzca6: oh yeah...that's the hardened version
Oct 17, 2017 11:15 AM - danzca6: may want to email him and see if he has the standard and the thumb wheel that he could price out for you
    Oct 17, 2017 11:16 AM - danzca6: I mean $66 for a whole new Titan
Oct 17, 2017 11:27 AM - Geof: I typically just buy a new titan lol. I have a box of parts from other ones but god knows what I did with them lol
Oct 17, 2017 11:53 AM - danzca6: yeah another issue with mine was the idler arm. The pivot hole needed to be reemed out a bit for it to operate smoothly. That first batch had issues :) Love to just buy a new one and compare
    Oct 17, 2017 12:03 PM - Geof: :D Ya got a 2nd printer now ;)
    Oct 17, 2017 12:20 PM - danzca6: 2nd printer? I thought you were way past 2nd :)
Oct 17, 2017 12:21 PM - Geof: lol talkin ya about you sir ;)
    Oct 17, 2017 12:21 PM - Geof: I think I might be started a 2nd round of 2nd printers :D
    Oct 17, 2017 12:23 PM - danzca6: at least the 2nd round
    Oct 17, 2017 12:23 PM - danzca6: hahaha
    Oct 17, 2017 12:27 PM - Geof: bahahhahahaha :D
Oct 17, 2017 12:28 PM - Geof: We dont even try to answer when people ask how many we have because I forget I have some at times...or where I put them :D
Oct 17, 2017 4:12 PM - daniel871: You oughtta go through your forgotten machines and sell 'em and get whatever the next Zortrax is going to take the M300's place after their price drop.

Oct 18, 2017 3:58 AM - daniel871: Did the robots actually fight or what?
Oct 18, 2017 4:45 AM - sgomes: All staged, super cheesy. Think wrestling with robots.
Oct 18, 2017 5:00 AM - daniel871: That description actually sounds cooler than it probably was, given the spectacle level in wrestling.
Oct 18, 2017 5:17 AM - Geof: I didn't get a chance to watch it to busy, sucks it was BS. I was excited for it.
Oct 18, 2017 5:37 AM - daniel871: Well, you know neither company was actually going to allow anything to happen that would damage their robot.
    Oct 18, 2017 5:38 AM - Geof: :D Pansys
    Oct 18, 2017 5:38 AM - Geof: thats a cool autocorrect lol! :D
Oct 18, 2017 5:38 AM - Geof: smash em if ya got em right? No ? lol
Oct 18, 2017 5:43 AM - daniel871: Guess I'll just play Robot Alchemic Drive on the PS2 for clunky robots fighting.
    Oct 18, 2017 5:45 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
Oct 18, 2017 5:45 AM - Geof: lol might be money better spent :D
Oct 18, 2017 5:46 AM - daniel871: That game was unreasonably fun because the control scheme was that each analog stick controlled the respective arm and the L1/L2 R1/R2 buttons moved the respective legs forward or backward.
Oct 18, 2017 5:47 AM - daniel871: So big, slow moving monster robots lumbering around and knocking buildings over while swinging arms around moved like it had actual weight. The rest of the game was pretty hilarious parody of movies about this kind of stuff.
Oct 18, 2017 5:48 AM - daniel871: (and random unintentional hilarity like police cars plowing through crowds of panicking people getting away from the fighting robots, with blood splatters flying everywhere)
Oct 18, 2017 5:54 AM - Geof: lol PS2 games are hilarious. We have one in our "old video games collection" just for fun games like that.
Oct 18, 2017 5:55 AM - daniel871: The Metal Gear series is another fun set of games for that one.
Oct 18, 2017 5:59 AM - Geof: for sure. We have quite a few games, the one I'm on the hunt for a replacement is the evil dead game lol. fistful of boomstick! :D
Oct 18, 2017 5:59 AM - Geof: Seen a few on ebay but meh they want to much IMO lol.
Oct 18, 2017 6:01 AM - daniel871: If you have the original game just ROM it. They aren't going to re-release that one any time soon.
    Oct 18, 2017 6:02 AM - daniel871: https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-lis...ipping?ie=UTF8&f_all=true&f_freeShipping=true
    Oct 18, 2017 6:03 AM - daniel871: LOL at $115 at the top end.
    Oct 18, 2017 6:07 AM - Geof: lol! 115 is hilarious. I think it was 20.00 new :D lol
Oct 18, 2017 6:07 AM - Geof: The one we've got wont play anymore - to many hours playing lol. I'll pick up one of those 15.00 ones, thanks for the link!
Oct 18, 2017 6:10 AM - daniel871: I modded my old "fat" PS2 to have a hard drive on it with the old network card you could buy for it and a bootloader disc that will copy games to said hard drive and allow you to run them from it.
Oct 18, 2017 6:11 AM - daniel871: Basically, bootloader comes up with list of games on the hard drive and an option to load a game disc for copying to the hard drive. Very slick/minimalistic setup.
Oct 18, 2017 6:12 AM - Geof: Yea but were wierd and dont like Roms on consoles :D. We just buy the consoles we had when we were kids and the games we wanted but never got lol.
Oct 18, 2017 6:13 AM - daniel871: Oh, you have to actually have the game at some point in order to install it. It doesn't actually allow for downloads/transfers.
Oct 18, 2017 6:14 AM - daniel871: I still have all of the game discs for the games on the HDD, I just don't have to physically find the game I want to play and load it. Scroll through a list and run it.
Oct 18, 2017 6:17 AM - Geof: Oh gotya! Thats not a bad idea then. Cake and eat it too :D
Oct 18, 2017 6:31 AM - daniel871: Did it back in 2008, looks like the place that had the bootloader software for the disc to run everything isn't actually around any more.
Oct 18, 2017 6:34 AM - daniel871: Anyway, status update on the Delta. Looks like the problem with the Titan is that I do in fact have one of the old fucked up ones. Ordered a replacement gear and thumb wheel to fix it and will recalibrate extruder steps when I get it.
Oct 18, 2017 6:35 AM - Geof: That would do it. I had forgotten all about the titan fiasco lol.
Oct 18, 2017 6:36 AM - daniel871: I missed it altogether because I'd opted to use my old Bondtechs on other printers before getting around to the Titan on this one.
Oct 18, 2017 6:37 AM - daniel871: I'm trying to wrap my head around this PTFE tubing on PrintedSolid that is supposed to somehow be magical enough to warrant the price on it.
    Oct 18, 2017 6:37 AM - daniel871: It's opaque dark blue/black. Ooooooo!
    Oct 18, 2017 6:38 AM - daniel871: https://printedsolid.com/collection...s/capricorn-xs-reduced-friction-bowden-tubing
Oct 18, 2017 6:40 AM - Geof: its all the rage from what I hear after E3D used it in their "gold" edition
Oct 18, 2017 6:40 AM - Geof: I'm a fan of if you dont have a problem dont fix it i:D
    Oct 18, 2017 6:40 AM - Geof: it***
    Oct 18, 2017 6:40 AM - WheresWaldo: Same here
Oct 18, 2017 6:40 AM - Geof: maybe I'll pick up a roll after I run out of my current stock and try it out but....that will be awhile
Oct 18, 2017 6:41 AM - Geof: exactly :D. Its better to just print unless your end game isn't to print and to just constantly swap stuff in and out. I dont have that kind of time anymore lol.
Oct 18, 2017 6:42 AM - WheresWaldo: It isa almost as bad as any other discrectionary hobby spending. Buy this, Buy that, You will get incredible results. All marketing speak for give me your money because you are an idiot and need me to take it from you.
Oct 18, 2017 6:45 AM - WheresWaldo: If they made it 2 mm +- 0.5 then maybe, but it is speced at 1.9 +- .05 so it could end up tight if you have a bit of filament out of spec.
Oct 18, 2017 6:47 AM - WheresWaldo: I am very familiar with PTFE lining as that is all the rage in bicycling. want all those brake and shifter cables to have no friction. I have eliminates friction 100% on my shift cables since my bike uses wiring and electronic shifting (using micro stepper motors). Brakes are still a cable pull.
Oct 18, 2017 6:48 AM - WheresWaldo: PTFE lined cable housings that is.
Oct 18, 2017 6:49 AM - WheresWaldo: And teflon coated Stainless Steel stranded cables.
Oct 18, 2017 6:53 AM - daniel871: Well, one thing I did like about the flawed hobb on the Titan I have was that it would toss any shredded filament bits out the open side when the gear came around. Filament didn't stick to it.
Oct 18, 2017 6:54 AM - daniel871: Pain in the ass that it is flawed and not working properly though because now I have to figure out what my original default settings were.
Oct 18, 2017 6:55 AM - WheresWaldo: Dan I have a Titan still in the box that has the flawed original Hobbed Gear.
Oct 18, 2017 6:57 AM - daniel871: Same here. I just missed all the drama on the Titan flaws in the original roll out because I was doing other stuff.
Oct 18, 2017 6:57 AM - daniel871: Well, not "in box" any more. But it was until Monday.
Oct 18, 2017 7:00 AM - daniel871: You should email Sanjay at E3D and ask if it's possible to get a warrantied gear since you've not used it. Or maybe a return/replacement.
Oct 18, 2017 7:11 AM - Geof: Not a bad idea, they may still replace the defective parts for freed.
    Oct 18, 2017 7:11 AM - Geof: free*
    Oct 18, 2017 7:13 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
Oct 18, 2017 8:24 AM - daniel871: LOL, some folks on the Mini delta Facebook group are getting super salty over me posting "Is there any reason you aren't reading the pinned post?" in response to questions posted that are answered in that post.
Oct 18, 2017 8:26 AM - Geof: :D it happens on all "forum like" areas. I dont think facebook is the best place to look for help IMO lol
Oct 18, 2017 8:56 AM - JeffTheMess: lulz I hate when that happens stupid scanners
    Oct 18, 2017 8:56 AM - JeffTheMess: morning robonauts
Oct 18, 2017 11:01 AM - daniel871: The people at MakerGeeks are trying way too hard with their emails about sales.
Oct 18, 2017 11:17 AM - Geof: I think this is the 15th one I've gotten this week lol
Oct 18, 2017 11:17 AM - Geof: unsubscribed from their listing today because of it...I mean come on enough already
Oct 18, 2017 11:42 AM - danzca6: so Prusa now has a full upgrade from MK2/S to MK3...with all that it comes with...what else is there? LCD and stepper motors? https://shop.prusa3d.com/en/printer-upgrades/182-original-prusa-i3-mk2s-to-mk3-upgrade-kit.html
Oct 18, 2017 11:45 AM - danzca6: $499 for that, maybe $49 for the MK2 to MK2S upgrade to get the new rods and bearings. Still less than $200 for the LCD and steppers. So would you be ahead? Maybe some nuts and bolts needed as well...still
Oct 18, 2017 11:46 AM - danzca6: $749-$548 is where I got the $200 for the extra bits needed to come out even. hmmmm
Oct 18, 2017 11:49 AM - Geof: lol :D IDK man may just need to buy the MK3.
Oct 18, 2017 11:49 AM - Geof: I decided to wait until they actually start shipping. I have enough machines to keep me afloat until then :D
    Oct 18, 2017 11:49 AM - danzca6: you know me...just trying to save a buck....hahaha
Oct 18, 2017 11:56 AM - Geof: lol you could likely fill in the spare parts needed with what you have laying around.
Oct 18, 2017 12:06 PM - danzca6: that was my thought as well
    Oct 18, 2017 12:10 PM - Geof: might as well ;)
Oct 18, 2017 12:44 PM - Toro1966: I ended up buying a Tevo Tornado. Price was right and I am interested in seeing how it works.
    Oct 18, 2017 12:44 PM - Toro1966: I meant how ell it works
    Oct 18, 2017 12:45 PM - Geof: I'm sorry :D
Oct 18, 2017 12:46 PM - Geof: Make sure to go through all the normal safety stuff and make sure the Tevo wont burn down the homestead
Oct 18, 2017 12:52 PM - danzca6: yeah, CA doesn't need any more fires than they already have
Oct 18, 2017 12:57 PM - daniel871: Expect to replace a lot of parts and straight up rewire things.
Oct 18, 2017 2:34 PM - Coby Robo 3D: hey guys Coby here
Oct 18, 2017 2:35 PM - Coby Robo 3D: quick question: I have been working really hard trying to set up our new customer service platform called Zendesk
Oct 18, 2017 2:35 PM - Coby Robo 3D: They have a 'community' portal that functions just like forums and was wondering a few things
Oct 18, 2017 2:36 PM - Coby Robo 3D: 1. Would it be appropriate to port all the data over to those forums and everyone start using them there?
Oct 18, 2017 2:37 PM - Coby Robo 3D: It integrates with our entire help site help.robo3d.com so the search function could span across all articles in the forums as well
Oct 18, 2017 2:37 PM - Coby Robo 3D: 2. Has anyone every used the zendesk forums in here? and how did you like it?
Oct 18, 2017 2:38 PM - Coby Robo 3D: 3. Has anyone every ported over forum data to a new host? I can't seem to find anything out there.
Oct 18, 2017 2:38 PM - Coby Robo 3D: This is all just preliminary talks but wanted to get your feedback before making any decisions. Thanks!
Oct 18, 2017 2:48 PM - mark tomlinson: Awful lot of data on here already going back a long way. Moving that might be ... problematic.
Oct 18, 2017 2:48 PM - Toro1966: From everything I have seen, the Tornado looks good to go. it's a CR-10 clone and the Cr-10 has been going strong for some time. I'll deifnitely report out on it after I have had it for a while.
Oct 18, 2017 2:49 PM - Toro1966: Agree with mark - a lot of data. And a lot of us do use that archive and search feature. That said, as long as the comms plan was good for the transition and the new site had the same features, I wouldn't have any issues with a new one...
Oct 18, 2017 2:50 PM - Coby Robo 3D: Yea tons of data I agree
Oct 18, 2017 2:50 PM - Coby Robo 3D: It would be a tough move but i think it could benefit a lot of people
Oct 18, 2017 2:51 PM - Coby Robo 3D: in the first month we had over 5000 views on the articles so i think a lot of people are going there first before here
Oct 18, 2017 2:51 PM - Coby Robo 3D: would be really cool to see this community grow with the integration...
Oct 18, 2017 2:52 PM - Coby Robo 3D: I just need to find out if it's even possible
Oct 18, 2017 2:52 PM - Coby Robo 3D: and that we can make the experience the exact same on here...
Oct 18, 2017 2:55 PM - Coby Robo 3D: Or maybe there is a potential to just make the search function go cross platform... and have results show up in one place
    Oct 18, 2017 2:55 PM - Coby Robo 3D: just spitballing ideas
Oct 18, 2017 3:01 PM - sgomes: Migrating between the two would likely require writing a piece of software to handle the migration, after carefully studying the developer documentation for both platforms (if it exists). Would be a significant endeavour, unless someone already built that tool.
Oct 18, 2017 3:04 PM - Coby Robo 3D: agreed. I can't really find anything on the two together out there
Oct 18, 2017 3:04 PM - Coby Robo 3D: both have really good developer documentation so it seems doable but the task seems pretty gigantic

Oct 18, 2017 3:43 PM - Geof: I'd bet we would at a minimum lose parts of the archive. Would be a shame to lose any of it, tons of intelligent people contributing over the years
Oct 18, 2017 3:43 PM - Toro1966: Another question Coby would be how to get them here quicker. Lots of ways to highlight the forum to ensure peopleknow where to go. Right now you have to do some exploring on the main page to get here.
Oct 18, 2017 3:44 PM - Toro1966: Will let you know how the Tevo goes Geof.
Oct 18, 2017 3:44 PM - Toro1966: Looks promising though. I am sure they'll be a few upgrades along the way. also saw the R1+ are back up for sale again - lol
Oct 18, 2017 3:53 PM - Geof: Yea the forum is quite hard to find for sure.
Oct 18, 2017 3:53 PM - Geof: Oh for sure a few along the way, always is. Love the r1+ is back. Decent price too!
Oct 18, 2017 3:55 PM - Toro1966: Not bad at all - wonder if they made any improvements.
Oct 18, 2017 3:55 PM - Toro1966: Still more than the Tornado and with no real additonal features. But I love the two we have :)
Oct 18, 2017 4:05 PM - Coby Robo 3D: I don't want to lose anything thats for sure
Oct 18, 2017 4:06 PM - Coby Robo 3D: yea its hard to get people here thats why i wanted to make it easier with the move so if it doesnt work out ill have to think of a creative way to get users over here and contributing
Oct 18, 2017 4:08 PM - Coby Robo 3D: The R1+ has a new design of the heatbed but thats about it for those that were wondering. Uses a clip, and a better insulator for the heat. We are exploring ways to upgrade the bed even more but that is not in this new batch of printers we just received
Oct 18, 2017 4:19 PM - Geof: Very cool. The r1+ is a great machine and 500 is a fairly decent price for sure.
Oct 18, 2017 4:28 PM - jim knocke: Anyone familiar with the R1+ replacement hotend with the bowden, how good is it?
Oct 18, 2017 4:39 PM - Geof: Hi Jim, link to what your talking about ?
Oct 18, 2017 5:39 PM - Toro1966: Thanks for all the info Coby!
Oct 18, 2017 5:49 PM - danzca6: so does this all mean if we move to zendesk that the shoutbox will be dead?
Oct 18, 2017 6:02 PM - Coby Robo 3D: no i do not want to get rid of anything thats currently on here. Again, this is just a feeler of an idea i had earlier so just exploring the possibilities
Oct 18, 2017 6:02 PM - Coby Robo 3D: shoutbox is the best!
Oct 18, 2017 6:21 PM - Geof: It can be very entertaining for sure lol
Oct 18, 2017 6:25 PM - danzca6: wow...R1+ new for $499...I guess I can direct those guys trying to get $500+ for a used one to that page

    Oct 19, 2017 2:18 AM - daniel871: That's been the price for the R1+ for a while, why is that a "wow"?
Oct 19, 2017 3:58 AM - danzca6: Has it? I thought that was the refurb price and not the new. Still reasonable
Oct 19, 2017 4:20 AM - daniel871: Pretty sure the price of the regular R1+ dropped when the R2 was officially shipped.
    Oct 19, 2017 4:50 AM - daniel871: Will Zendesk support GIFV? https://i.imgur.com/EUf9Vbj.gifv
Oct 19, 2017 5:10 AM - Geof: the R1+ did drop to around there when the R2 shipped to clear out inventory. Just a sale. Having a retail price for a new R1+ at 500.00 is a decent deal
    Oct 19, 2017 5:33 AM - JeffTheMess: morning roboneers
Oct 19, 2017 5:40 AM - Geof: Good morning Jeff. How are you this fine Thursday
Oct 19, 2017 5:57 AM - danzca6: oh crap...it's thursday? I forgot to put out the garbage cans
Oct 19, 2017 5:58 AM - Geof: LOL I had to go back home and do it!
Oct 19, 2017 5:59 AM - Geof: Something about today isn't working for me. Even forgot my laptop charger at the home shop LOL
Oct 19, 2017 5:59 AM - danzca6: that's at least an hour round trip for me
Oct 19, 2017 5:59 AM - danzca6: yeah today is not starting well
    Oct 19, 2017 5:59 AM - danzca6: I think I should take tomorrow off
Oct 19, 2017 6:01 AM - Geof: Me too man! lol
    Oct 19, 2017 6:01 AM - Geof: You can come visit !
    Oct 19, 2017 6:01 AM - Geof: :D
Oct 19, 2017 6:05 AM - JeffTheMess: cool, how everyone
Oct 19, 2017 6:06 AM - daniel871: I'm having to drink more coffee just to stay awake today. Stupid weather.
    Oct 19, 2017 6:06 AM - JeffTheMess: no good
Oct 19, 2017 6:07 AM - daniel871: Had two nights in a row where my perception of sleeping was lying down and then an instant later waking up to my alarm.
    Oct 19, 2017 6:07 AM - daniel871: With no feeling of recovery/rest.
Oct 19, 2017 6:08 AM - JeffTheMess: well that sucks
Oct 19, 2017 6:08 AM - daniel871: Posted in the Community Recommendations forum a suggestion that should have been done already after a certain other competitor at half the price point did it.
Oct 19, 2017 6:09 AM - danzca6: Geof my todo list has to get done first. I had to cancel my Orlando trip this weekend because I have to get stuff done before the weather turns...I've been slacking bad
Oct 19, 2017 6:11 AM - Geof: how dare yoyu Danz :D lol totally understand..I still have so much crap to do lol.
    Oct 19, 2017 6:11 AM - daniel871: Orlando is overrated anyway.
Oct 19, 2017 6:11 AM - Geof: Daniel what are you talking about?
Oct 19, 2017 6:11 AM - Geof: the community recommendations
    Oct 19, 2017 6:12 AM - JeffTheMess: sleeping pills,right?
Oct 19, 2017 6:12 AM - daniel871: It's awaiting approval before being publicly visible. May be restricted to admins instead of moderators.
Oct 19, 2017 6:13 AM - daniel871: QC process with results shipped with printer.
Oct 19, 2017 6:13 AM - daniel871: Or you may be looking in the wrong "Community Recomendations" sub-forum (love the typo in the title by the way)
Oct 19, 2017 6:15 AM - danzca6: Orlando is where my grandpa and dad are. Gramps turned 90 today. At least he knows how to skype. Also the Orlando maker faire is this weekend and my dad and I were going to go
Oct 19, 2017 6:22 AM - mark tomlinson: Those sections (Community Recommendations) are forced moderation. So any post goes into a queue and awaits approval/editing. The idea is that we/you work up a detailed post in another area and once it is something concise, to the point, you repost it directly to Robo in those areas. I have moved yours over... Well done.
Oct 19, 2017 6:22 AM - Geof: Danz you should go anyway.
Oct 19, 2017 6:22 AM - daniel871: Will it break everything to fix the typo in the section heading? :p
Oct 19, 2017 6:23 AM - Geof: We didn't write it :D Robo has to fix it :O
    Oct 19, 2017 6:23 AM - Geof: :)***
Oct 19, 2017 6:23 AM - mark tomlinson: P.S. I will also be at the Maker Faire :) Perhaps I'll see you there. As for the typo -- only Robo can edit that...
Oct 19, 2017 6:23 AM - daniel871: Also my suggestion should be able to be adapted to the C2 as well as the R2.
Oct 19, 2017 6:23 AM - mark tomlinson: I have passed that along
Oct 19, 2017 6:23 AM - daniel871: (since they are mostly the same electronic hardware other than the heated bed)
Oct 19, 2017 6:28 AM - daniel871: I mean, I could probably code it up myself, but I'm not doing it for free.
Oct 19, 2017 6:39 AM - Geof: I'm not 100% sure I agree with the checklist thing but a neat idea. I have a MK2 and got the checksheet and all it is is a warm cozy feeling for 2 minutes :D. Might play a bigger role in fully assembled machines as I got the kit but most things dont seem DOA, they seem to fail in action.
Oct 19, 2017 6:45 AM - mark tomlinson: With the Rob at least it helps you know they at least checked it before it went off to you. It is a good idea for an assembled printer...
Oct 19, 2017 6:47 AM - Geof: fair enough :D Not worth a price increase IMO :D Returns are easily done if a failed unit arrives
Oct 19, 2017 6:48 AM - Geof: but I'm kinda crazy like that. Prusa is the only one of my many many printers that has shown up with one of those and is not the best performing :D
Oct 19, 2017 6:48 AM - Geof: but I do run things differently than a standard consumer would :D Maybe the every day consumer would benefit from seeing it :D
Oct 19, 2017 6:50 AM - daniel871: The point is to force Robo to check each machine before shipping it.
Oct 19, 2017 6:52 AM - daniel871: I mean, we all already know that Robo hasn't done this, relying on their contracted manufacturers to check the machines. This is just a "look at this less expensive machine that does this before sending a unit out, you should do this too".
    Oct 19, 2017 6:52 AM - daniel871: Without the obvious snark.
Oct 19, 2017 6:54 AM - Geof: :D a piece of paper makes you believe those checks have happened though?
    Oct 19, 2017 6:54 AM - Geof: know what I mean?
Oct 19, 2017 6:58 AM - daniel871: That's why I added the bit about setting it up so the end user could also run it and compare results.
Oct 19, 2017 6:59 AM - danzca6: who is to say the contracted manufacturer would run it and put the paper in without Robo actually running it
Oct 19, 2017 7:02 AM - Geof: Thats kind of my point. I mean they conduct testing on machines as all manufacturers say they do, I dont know what a piece of paper does to accomplish anything really. I do like your idea of a self test in octoprint daniel.
Oct 19, 2017 7:02 AM - Geof: if I got a new machine and could hit a button to check itself ( like the prusa self check) that would be great, would I do it? Maybe?
    Oct 19, 2017 7:02 AM - Geof: lol
Oct 19, 2017 7:03 AM - daniel871: That's kind of my point though. As it is, Robo is doing absolutely none of this. Saying "Well they could fake it" as a reason not to add it is just dumb.
Oct 19, 2017 7:04 AM - daniel871: You're also missing the part where the end-user could wave that test sheet and say "Replace the printer, your tests said everything checked out but it is failing out of the box. No, I will not swap parts on my own or pay shipping"
Oct 19, 2017 7:05 AM - daniel871: (or use the same sheet in their dispute for a replacement at Best Buy or Amazon or wherever)
Oct 19, 2017 7:06 AM - daniel871: Hell, just having the on-board self test would be a big step if the instructions that come with the machine say to run that before doing anything else.
Oct 19, 2017 7:06 AM - Geof: There is no argument when a machine should be replaced. I could have sent my R2 back but instead asked for parts. I dont know that returns are an issue :D but yes to self check.
Oct 19, 2017 7:07 AM - Geof: and nobody I'm aware of other than you has paid for shipping on areturn :D
Oct 19, 2017 7:07 AM - Geof: (not saying thats fair, just havent heard of it)
Oct 19, 2017 7:11 AM - daniel871: That may have changed recently, but that was definitely a common complaint in the R1 subforum back in 2015 whenever someone sent their printer in for warranty work.
Oct 19, 2017 7:15 AM - daniel871: Also, having to pay for replacement parts that failed due to poor workmanship (like the glass bed shattering when it cooled down after a print, before the thickness of the bed was changed for future units) was a huge issue when it was happening to people.
Oct 19, 2017 7:20 AM - mark tomlinson: The bed was a sore point. Returns were ... not well thought out and the R1 series was a hot mess on warranty support that got better as it matured. My beta was essentially a "don't bother to call or email" and the R1+ was not horrid.
Oct 19, 2017 7:22 AM - mark tomlinson: It took 3 months for them to respond to a warranty email request when I got my beta... 3. months. Clearly by then it was not a pressing issue. They did mature their service, but boy was it painful
Oct 19, 2017 7:23 AM - mark tomlinson: They even set up a refurb channel for replaced ones (which is the right way to go)
Oct 19, 2017 7:23 AM - daniel871: Man, I hate waiting on parts. Waiting on the replacement gear for my Titan to put on the Mini Delta and then resume experimenting.
Oct 19, 2017 7:24 AM - Geof: I never had issue with the R1+ machines or the R2 as of now.
Oct 19, 2017 7:24 AM - Geof: Tell them what failed, send a picture and explain a little (nicely) and they were happy to supply a replacement.
Oct 19, 2017 7:24 AM - Geof: They even gave me a replacement bed when my original one failed.
Oct 19, 2017 7:25 AM - Geof: bed heater*** not bed.
    Oct 19, 2017 7:27 AM - daniel871: When did you get your R1+, Geof?
Oct 19, 2017 7:28 AM - Geof: start of 2015. Joined forum in Nov 2015
Oct 19, 2017 7:28 AM - Geof: reprap printer before that...R1+ was a huge step up lol
Oct 19, 2017 7:28 AM - Geof: though confusing to me and i needed alot of help lol..
Oct 19, 2017 7:38 AM - danzca6: I still laugh that I made a comment in the Shoutbox shortly after getting my R1 that the Z smoothrod lower supports cracked. 2 days later I had a package from Robo with new ones. I had never said a word to them about it and just magically showed up at my door
Oct 19, 2017 7:42 AM - Geof: yep. They have always taken care of any issues I've had.
Oct 19, 2017 7:42 AM - daniel871: I think I was in the middle of a really bad time for Robo support, but that still doesn't excuse some of the decisions that were made.
Oct 19, 2017 7:42 AM - Geof: part of the evolution I'd imagine for sure, but in 2013-2014 things were a little more...wild west lol
Oct 19, 2017 7:43 AM - Geof: not saying it excuses anything :D. Just mentioning the improvement
Oct 19, 2017 7:43 AM - Geof: improvements*** over time
Oct 19, 2017 7:44 AM - Geof: I do notice alot of companies (not saying Robo is like this) will help people that are not in a frantic or pissy mood about being down alot more than someone that is. Cool collected is recieved much better than angry :D
Oct 19, 2017 7:44 AM - daniel871: Is there some Back to the Future meme going on I'm not aware of right now? Makergeeks has decided to make their sale emails all with that theme in the text. It's pretty dumb.
Oct 19, 2017 7:45 AM - daniel871: A sale running from now until October 27th is getting an email about it every day until then.
Oct 19, 2017 7:46 AM - daniel871: 25% off anything but their box subscription thing using DOCBROWN25 during checkout.
Oct 19, 2017 7:48 AM - mark tomlinson: Uh, no? I would not be in for more spam :)
Oct 19, 2017 7:49 AM - daniel871: I just look in the "Promotional emails" tab in my inbox when I'm looking to see what deals are running, otherwise I don't see them.
Oct 19, 2017 7:58 AM - Geof: I unsubbed yesterday due to the spaming lol
Oct 19, 2017 8:02 AM - Geof: unsatisfied really overall with their product for the price. Will stick with the cheapo chinese stuff that runs fine lol
Oct 19, 2017 8:06 AM - daniel871: I've only really been happy with their PETG in the grab bag deal (when they're running a sale on top of the grab bag). Haven't really been able to find comparable pricing and material quality elsewhere for snatching up $12-14 spools depending on the sale.
Oct 19, 2017 8:14 AM - Geof: yea that would be fair. I dont run it enough to have stock layin around :(
Oct 19, 2017 8:18 AM - daniel871: Man, I wish just one of those stupid Nazi rallies would come to Atlanta just to see them get fucking stomped.
Oct 19, 2017 8:19 AM - daniel871: But no, they're going to places they feel relatively safe because the locals support them anyway.
Oct 19, 2017 8:20 AM - daniel871: (or are too chickenshit to openly drive them out of town)
Oct 19, 2017 11:23 AM - Coby Robo 3D: Great feedback guys. I have actually re-vamped our entire customer support in the last month or 2 and we have seen a huge turnaround
Oct 19, 2017 11:24 AM - Coby Robo 3D: loving the feedback from you guys. It's the only way we can actually improve everything here and trust me, we are trying hard

Oct 20, 2017 2:26 AM - Bill Monroe: it's amusing how the neo-craftsman Internet-U gradtuates talk about centuries-old technology as if they just discovered it.
Oct 20, 2017 4:02 AM - daniel871: Kind of like all the "3D Printing is the future of Manufacturing" even though it's literally been around since 1983.
Oct 20, 2017 5:21 AM - danzca6: Hollywood has been doing it for years. ;)
Oct 20, 2017 5:59 AM - daniel871: I laughed pretty hard at them using a Rostock Delta in that goofy medical show about rich people getting miracle cures, using it to print a replacement set of kidneys as if it could feasibly do that.
    Oct 20, 2017 6:01 AM - daniel871: This show: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5500906/
Oct 20, 2017 6:17 AM - Geof: :p you saying a rostock wont save my life? lol
Oct 20, 2017 6:32 AM - daniel871: Fixed for what was actually in the episode I'm remembering.
    Oct 20, 2017 6:38 AM - Geof: lol :D
Oct 20, 2017 6:46 AM - daniel871: Because, I shit you not, the rich patient didn't want to live on a dialysis machine like everyone else while waiting for a donor.
Oct 20, 2017 6:47 AM - daniel871: Kind of glad that show was cancelled because I found myself wishing every single patient would die before the episode was over.
Oct 20, 2017 7:41 AM - daniel871: This is pretty hilarious. What did they expect to happen? [IMG]
Oct 20, 2017 8:20 AM - Geof: what are they doing?
    Oct 20, 2017 8:29 AM - daniel871: Dumping water on hot grease.
    Oct 20, 2017 9:14 AM - Geof: ....... intelligent people these days eh :p

Oct 22, 2017 at 1:34 PM - Toro1966: Hey guys. Having a big problem with prints stopping - seemingly due to clog on my R1+ with E3DV6. Just started this. Looking for some advice.
Oct 22, 2017 at 5:16 PM - Geof: Cold end fan, season or replace nozzle, make sure your extruder gears are working all the time
Oct 22, 2017 at 7:52 PM - Toro1966: Thanks Geof - Tried all of that believe it or not. Replaced nozzle, checked to ensure fan was on all the time as it should be, extruder gears working. I am trying a third filament - having already tried two - and I also upped the stepper for the extruder slightly as it was skipping every once and a while. Will see how this test print goes.

Oct 23, 2017 5:42 AM - Geof: Morning** need more coffee.
Oct 23, 2017 5:43 AM - Geof: Hi Toro, keep us informed. May want to start a thread (shoutbox conv can be lost or overlooked)
    Oct 23, 2017 6:47 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
    Oct 23, 2017 6:47 AM - daniel871: Watch the whole thing.
    Oct 23, 2017 7:05 AM - JeffTheMess: morning roboneers
Oct 23, 2017 7:08 AM - JeffTheMess: that escalated quickly
Oct 23, 2017 7:16 AM - Toro1966: Thanks Geof. Tried a different brand of filament - though I have printed this brand of filament without issues in the past. Looks like I am printing ok right now. One thing I did do is lower the retraction. I had retraction set at 2.6 because I kept getting stringing even at 190C. That said, I turned up the extruder voltage because I was getting slippage so I am thinking maybe with the new voltage it was too much retraction.
Oct 23, 2017 7:17 AM - Toro1966: Will definitely keep everyone posted. I also set up the Tevo Tornado yesterday and first print was beautiful. Second is in progress and larger, but so far, so good - especially for $360 shipped!
Oct 23, 2017 7:31 AM - daniel871: Keep an eye on the wiring going between the heat bed and whatever board they use. They're notorious for burning up.
    Oct 23, 2017 7:31 AM - daniel871: Also the PSU in general.
Oct 23, 2017 8:12 AM - Toro1966: Not in the Tornado. That was in the earlier versions of the tarantula. the Tornado has been corrected. Actually a pretty nice desing with 24V and relay. heats quickly and stays hot.
    Oct 23, 2017 8:12 AM - Toro1966: So far i am liking it.
    Oct 23, 2017 8:25 AM - daniel871: That's the 300 x 300 x 400 version right?
    Oct 23, 2017 8:25 AM - daniel871: With knockoff Titan extruder?
    Oct 23, 2017 8:49 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
Oct 23, 2017 9:15 AM - daniel871: LOL at 3d printing people getting upset over the "Krak" vulnerability in Wifi networks.
Oct 23, 2017 9:16 AM - daniel871: What with the attacker having to be authenticated to your local network in order to exploit it, it's a vulnerability that won't apply to 99% of home users unless they piss off someone they think of as a "friend" that really turns out not to be one.
    Oct 23, 2017 9:50 AM - Toro1966: Yup - the 300x300x400 with knock off titan
Oct 23, 2017 11:47 AM - Geof: Toro glad your happy with it buddy. Printing big is fun, better stock up on that filament ;)
    Oct 23, 2017 11:58 AM - Toro1966: haha - I literally think I have about 50 rolls right now.
Oct 23, 2017 11:59 AM - Toro1966: keep finding new kinds and colors i like...
    Oct 23, 2017 11:59 AM - Geof: :D trust me I know what you mean lol ;)
Oct 23, 2017 12:00 PM - Geof: Between my large formats over the weekend I think I ate up about 8kg :D always more on the way....always....
Oct 23, 2017 12:07 PM - daniel871: Meanwhile, I'm still waiting on shipping on a replacement Titan drive gear.
Oct 23, 2017 12:10 PM - daniel871: Tests of this build plate system have also ground to a halt on my i3. https://www.fleks3d.com/the-products/8-x-8-fleks3d
Oct 23, 2017 12:10 PM - daniel871: Printed two items in PETG back-to-back, both items basically welded to the insert material, lol.
Oct 23, 2017 12:12 PM - Geof: yea that wont work so hot :D. PLA is fine on acrylic, PETGS and Copolymers tend to ...well weld :D. My gmax had a acrylic sheet stock (before I installed the heat bed upgrade)
Oct 23, 2017 12:15 PM - daniel871: I was having the same problem with PETG trying to weld to the little buildtak-like surfaces and having to replace them every few prints because the material being printed on would eventually degrade/tear out from the remainder of the build plate cover.
Oct 23, 2017 12:17 PM - daniel871: So it's not printing itself that I'm having trouble with, it's having the substrate survive long enough to be re-used on a regular basis. :p
Oct 23, 2017 12:17 PM - Geof: yea I use glue stick on build tak for most things...not to adhere...to limit adhesion :D
Oct 23, 2017 12:18 PM - Geof: if you do that it will help the life of the material.
Oct 23, 2017 12:18 PM - Geof: Same with PEI. XT sticks like mad to PEI on my MK2 and R2
Oct 23, 2017 12:22 PM - daniel871: I could never really get glue stick application to work properly. Adhesion would fail after a couple layers were down every single time.
Oct 23, 2017 12:24 PM - Geof: thats odd? I use it daily at both shops :D
    Oct 23, 2017 12:24 PM - Geof: elmers purple stuff :D
    Oct 23, 2017 12:26 PM - daniel871: Something very similar to this, came with the R1+Plus: https://www.amazon.com/Saunders-99655-Stick-Clear-White/dp/B00006IFC9
Oct 23, 2017 12:27 PM - Geof: Yea i chunked that stuff. I didn't like it (same issues you are saying). The purple glue stick seems to work so I keep using it.
    Oct 23, 2017 12:29 PM - daniel871: This? https://www.amazon.com/Elmers-Disappearing-Purple-Washable-0-24-ounce/dp/B000VXO4L2
    Oct 23, 2017 12:29 PM - daniel871: Maybe not that much though.
    Oct 23, 2017 12:30 PM - daniel871: Well I don't know, a single is about half that price. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001D6YFTW
Oct 23, 2017 12:33 PM - Geof: Yep i buy that big pk lol
Oct 23, 2017 12:34 PM - Geof: Can pick up a stick at most.places by itself to try
Oct 23, 2017 12:36 PM - Geof: the goes on purple then dries clear is neat but if you put it on a hot bed it goes to thick :D
Oct 23, 2017 12:36 PM - Geof: needs to be somewhat cold. I do it at the start of the day on all the machines then wash off the next day and reapply. Hobby style printing can get by with just wiping the surface with a wet rag to spread it back out a time or two.
Oct 23, 2017 6:09 PM - Dan: The white stuff isnt very good. The purple is the way to go
    Oct 23, 2017 6:09 PM - Dan: How's your R2 treating you Geof?
Oct 23, 2017 7:04 PM - Geof: Hey Dan, going pretty well. Think the major stuff has been ironed out now.

Oct 24, 2017 5:45 AM - danzca6: you and these circling pics...I wonder if we should be concerned ;) hahaha
Oct 24, 2017 5:48 AM - daniel871: The joke is easier to figure out if you know what the landmark in the last one is.
    Oct 24, 2017 5:52 AM - danzca6: I've got nothing
    Oct 24, 2017 5:52 AM - danzca6: hahaha
    Oct 24, 2017 5:57 AM - Geof: hey Danz
    Oct 24, 2017 6:03 AM - danzca6: Hey Geof
Oct 24, 2017 6:04 AM - danzca6: Waiting on my new G2 board from printrbot. Should be here tomorrow. Can't believe they don't have a way to update the firmware on those without having a Mac. PITA
Oct 24, 2017 6:05 AM - Geof: lol I dont really much care for printrbot for alot of small reasons.
Oct 24, 2017 6:05 AM - Geof: more than happy to donate time to their good cause but quickly losing interest due to lack of anything going on lol.
    Oct 24, 2017 6:05 AM - danzca6: yeah...the adoptabot has stalled out
Oct 24, 2017 6:06 AM - danzca6: I need to reprint and see if the new files help at all. No way I am giving that to a school as it is today.
Oct 24, 2017 6:07 AM - Geof: nope. I havent even put togather. Its just not good enough to put my name on.
Oct 24, 2017 6:07 AM - danzca6: funny, this actually isn't the first try for a project like this for them
    Oct 24, 2017 6:08 AM - danzca6: https://sites.google.com/a/mrwatt.ca/print-it-forward/home
Oct 24, 2017 6:08 AM - Geof: yea....judging by how quickly things have faded, when they are ready to start up again I wont have time. November through Feb are huge qty orders from commercial. All i can do to stay afloat lol.
    Oct 24, 2017 6:08 AM - danzca6: that is the las attempt
    Oct 24, 2017 6:09 AM - Geof: Yea I'm a bit...skeptical....at best right now lol.
Oct 24, 2017 6:10 AM - Geof: I got that box of parts in the home shop and just not sure what to do with it lol
Oct 24, 2017 6:11 AM - danzca6: now that the weather is fading quick, I need to finish my outdoor projects and then I can focus a bit more on mods. We'll see how this goes.
Oct 24, 2017 6:11 AM - danzca6: Brook seems to be easily distracted from one project to another
Oct 24, 2017 6:11 AM - Geof: fully printed lends to some real issues.
Oct 24, 2017 6:11 AM - danzca6: he went back to working on the printrbelt last week
Oct 24, 2017 6:11 AM - Geof: yes indeed. I'll give it to november when the large orders come in but then I'll likely have to bow out.
    Oct 24, 2017 6:11 AM - Geof: lol yea...that thing :D
    Oct 24, 2017 6:12 AM - danzca6: it's interesting, but...
Oct 24, 2017 6:13 AM - daniel871: I like the conceptual theory of it being able to just repeatedly print a single thing and dump the print in a box when the belt rolls around.
Oct 24, 2017 6:13 AM - danzca6: seems like Bill from Polar3D is the real user of it these days. He has it hooked to the Polar3D cloud and printing great
Oct 24, 2017 6:13 AM - daniel871: But what about when the thing is adhered to their kapton belt so hard it tears the belt going around that curve?
Oct 24, 2017 6:14 AM - Geof: so far I think they are only printing PLA. wont happen lol.
Oct 24, 2017 6:14 AM - daniel871: Someone put them up to printing PETG on it and make it happen. :p
Oct 24, 2017 6:15 AM - Geof: It is a cool idea and I have quite a few production jobs that would benefit from something like that but I dont think the printrbelt will be a real thing for quite some time
Oct 24, 2017 6:15 AM - daniel871: The big brother version of it will probably serve a production environment better anyway.
Oct 24, 2017 6:15 AM - daniel871: Blackbelt, over on one of the crowdfunding sites.
Oct 24, 2017 6:15 AM - Geof: at 10K I will run the jobs on what I have been :D Thats to much profit to be lost
Oct 24, 2017 6:15 AM - daniel871: Frickin' carbon fiber belt running over the heated bed.
Oct 24, 2017 6:16 AM - danzca6: the printrbot.cloud service is another half backed idea...seems to have lost interest from Brook because nothing is done and they need a 3rd party to do any updates....should just adopt using the Polar3D cloud if they want to continue that model
Oct 24, 2017 6:16 AM - Geof: Seems alot of stuff going on at once which leads to low productivity.
    Oct 24, 2017 6:17 AM - danzca6: exactly
Oct 24, 2017 6:17 AM - daniel871: Polar3d has their own printers, but I'll be damned if I can see the price justification on them.
Oct 24, 2017 6:17 AM - danzca6: they do, but they also incorporate a lot of other printers in their service
    Oct 24, 2017 6:18 AM - daniel871: Oooh, a turntable Y-axis that makes generating G-code needlessly complicated.
Oct 24, 2017 6:18 AM - Geof: it was a great idea (the adoptabot thing) but at this point I'm best off donating an old machine to the schools in my area (lord knows I can lol) and just being done with the check ins on a project that isn't going anywhere.
Oct 24, 2017 6:18 AM - Geof: Polar is aimed at schools. Not people that look at the price tag :D
Oct 24, 2017 6:18 AM - danzca6: the Polar service makes it easy setup for schools
    Oct 24, 2017 6:18 AM - daniel871: Still. The hardware setup annoys/offends me.
Oct 24, 2017 6:19 AM - danzca6: Agreed Geof that I can buy a STARTT and donate that to a school and feel much better than this thing
Oct 24, 2017 6:19 AM - Geof: :D its not meant for peopel like you.
Oct 24, 2017 6:19 AM - Geof: yep. Exactly. 100.00 for a start. Low risk, easy to use. Startt Cura version isn't bad. Backed by my minifactory.
    Oct 24, 2017 6:20 AM - danzca6: yep...I don't even know if Brook knows that already exists
Oct 24, 2017 6:20 AM - daniel871: I'm pretty sure Printrbot barely acknowledges that other 3d printer technology exists.
Oct 24, 2017 6:20 AM - Geof: thats quite possible one of the best 100.00 I ever spent lol. Tons of people ooo and aaaah at it and I'm not really ever worried about someone breaking it...because its so damn cheap lol.
Oct 24, 2017 6:21 AM - daniel871: How long did it take to assemble?
Oct 24, 2017 6:22 AM - Geof: They do things their way, nothing wrong with that :D. Bit on the pricy side for what it is IMO but people fanboy about them
Oct 24, 2017 6:22 AM - Geof: no hate here.
Oct 24, 2017 6:22 AM - Geof: took me a couple hours. Worst part was peeling all the damn paper off.
Oct 24, 2017 6:22 AM - danzca6: I think it is good to have some level of blinders on so that you can innovate instead of replicate
Oct 24, 2017 6:24 AM - Geof: :D No real thoughts negative or positive regarding their machines. I've never been much impressed but dont have one either. Could be a whole world of difference. But at the price (600-800) I'll just get another prusa or save up and get something bigger.
Oct 24, 2017 6:25 AM - daniel871: There was a twitter thread yesterday directed at Printrbot regarding that wifi "Krack" thing where I was asking why a third party being able to see the data being communicated between your printer and your network matters.
Oct 24, 2017 6:26 AM - daniel871: Someone said "They could send commands to your printer telling it to try for an unsafe temperature, causing a fire" and everyone ignored my "You mean your firmware doesn't have a coded upper limit/thermal runaway protection that will kick in like in Marlin?"
Oct 24, 2017 6:27 AM - Geof: no idea if they do or not. Havent seen their firmware (or looked) all mine kill off at 300-310 depending on the machine.
Oct 24, 2017 6:27 AM - daniel871: I mean, you can't really send a terminal command to self-destruct your printer unless you've disabled a lot of common safety features in firmware.
Oct 24, 2017 6:28 AM - Geof: Hard to say, if its off and you can access eeprom there is alot you can do.
Oct 24, 2017 6:28 AM - Geof: but people should be watching their equipment, then its a no bother :D
Oct 24, 2017 6:29 AM - daniel871: Or, you know, run the specific bits your printer is tied to through a VPN.
Oct 24, 2017 6:30 AM - Geof: I dont much pay attention to that kinda stuff :)
Oct 24, 2017 6:30 AM - Geof: Only have 2 machines that can be affected lol
Oct 24, 2017 6:31 AM - danzca6: the printrbot cloud doesn't allow for any commands to be sent...barely allows for an STL hahaha
Oct 24, 2017 6:32 AM - Geof: Just the R2 and the Type A. Both are fine, meh lol.
    Oct 24, 2017 6:32 AM - danzca6: it's stone age tech
Oct 24, 2017 6:32 AM - Geof: gotya. both mine run octoprint and you can do as you wish but the machines are close to me so I can kill em if something were to happen. The type a is the only real concern. she heats up fast :D
Oct 24, 2017 6:32 AM - Geof: from gcode sent to printing start its well under a minute :D
    Oct 24, 2017 6:33 AM - Geof: 230C/80C
Oct 24, 2017 6:33 AM - danzca6: yeah octoprint would be more of a concern if your machines are on 24/7 like yours
    Oct 24, 2017 6:33 AM - danzca6: could wake up and have a "tree" printed...hahaha
Oct 24, 2017 6:33 AM - Geof: Yep but even then, meh, really who cares lol. It the type A gets to hot it will auto shut down.
    Oct 24, 2017 6:33 AM - Geof: R2 does the same :D
    Oct 24, 2017 6:33 AM - Geof: LMAO!
Oct 24, 2017 6:34 AM - Geof: its always running, the only thing they could do would force a fail and I can pull it off the network ;)
Oct 24, 2017 6:34 AM - Geof: The R2 is actually off right now for the first time since I got it. I need to test fit some stuff while my brother in law is coming to get his batman lol
Oct 24, 2017 6:36 AM - Geof: The rest of the horde are all sd card driven no internet havin monkeys lol
    Oct 24, 2017 6:36 AM - danzca6: I saw that batman cowl...smooth looking print
Oct 24, 2017 6:36 AM - Geof: yea man gmax and type are both dialed in well for the .3 and .35 layers :D
Oct 24, 2017 6:37 AM - Geof: things that big take to long any other way. I think the top was 28 hours on the gmax and 13 hours for the jaw portion on the type a
Oct 24, 2017 6:39 AM - daniel871: The whole controversy also ignores the bit where the attacker has to be within physical range of your local WIFI access point.
Oct 24, 2017 6:39 AM - Geof: for sure. To many variables to be a viable concern IMO.
Oct 24, 2017 6:40 AM - Geof: I'm more concerned with someone kicking in the front door loll.
Oct 24, 2017 6:40 AM - daniel871: I guess that it could be a concern if you were in an apartment building running 3d printers, but why the fuck would you be that inconsiderate of your neighbors?
Oct 24, 2017 6:41 AM - daniel871: Especially with how loud the cheap 3d printers that have no firmware safety coded in are.
Oct 24, 2017 6:43 AM - Geof: yea I dont much get it man. Suppose people gotta worry about something. New craze must be that :D
Oct 24, 2017 6:47 AM - Geof: Daniel any cool new toys comin?
Oct 24, 2017 6:53 AM - daniel871: Nothing new, no. Just waiting on "free"/slow shipping to get the Titan going on that mini delta.
Oct 24, 2017 6:54 AM - daniel871: Also working on getting things lined up to start taking some welding courses because I haven't done any of it since 1999 and that was all "stick" welding and want to get into proper MIG/TIG stuff.
    Oct 24, 2017 6:55 AM - daniel871: In Stainless/Aluminum, not just bog-standard steel/iron stuff.
Oct 24, 2017 6:55 AM - Geof: gotya. thats fun. Not a bad hobby to have.
    Oct 24, 2017 6:55 AM - Geof: mig is pretty simple. :D

Oct 24, 2017 6:56 AM - daniel871: I know the actual mechanism is simple. I mean more the technical stuff about how much weld for a certain kind of joint, etc.
Oct 24, 2017 6:57 AM - daniel871: And general prep stuff. Beyond simple stuff like cleaning the metal, then warming it up before actually welding so the temperature shock doesn't ruin it and the weld material penetrates into the stock, etc.
Oct 24, 2017 7:00 AM - Geof: yea for sure. Good idea.
    Oct 24, 2017 7:05 AM - daniel871: Anyway.
    Oct 24, 2017 7:05 AM - daniel871: [IMG]
Oct 24, 2017 7:09 AM - daniel871: And when mouse sensitivity is too high: [IMG]
    Oct 24, 2017 8:54 AM - daniel871: Also, political commentary: [IMG]
    Oct 24, 2017 9:58 AM - danzca6: anyone cut 0.035" blue spring steel before?
    Oct 24, 2017 10:32 AM - Geof: on the jet :D
Oct 24, 2017 10:32 AM - Geof: could likely tin snip it then clean the cut on a grinder
    Oct 24, 2017 10:40 AM - danzca6: yeah..having a water jet would be sooooo nice
Oct 24, 2017 10:40 AM - Geof: They have a diy one lol
    Oct 24, 2017 10:41 AM - danzca6: I can't seem to find a 6x12 inch..just a 6x24 sheet
Oct 24, 2017 10:42 AM - danzca6: is it just me, or are those pics making the shoutbox slow
Oct 24, 2017 10:42 AM - Geof: Of spring steel ? Mcmaster has sizes i think
    Oct 24, 2017 10:42 AM - danzca6: mcmaster is where I was looking
Oct 24, 2017 10:48 AM - Geof: Ill give it a look in a bit and see if i can find what i ordered
Oct 24, 2017 11:32 AM - Geof: you are correct, I see a value pack 6"x12" but nothing one size :(
    Oct 24, 2017 12:46 PM - KRGraphicsCG: Hey guys
    Oct 24, 2017 12:59 PM - KRGraphicsCG: It's been a LONG while since I've been here
    Oct 24, 2017 1:04 PM - Geof: well quit being a stranger :D
Oct 24, 2017 1:08 PM - KRGraphicsCG: I've been busy working on my projects... printing a new piece right now
Oct 24, 2017 1:09 PM - KRGraphicsCG: the sides are gonna be slightly warped
Oct 24, 2017 1:09 PM - Geof: yea I saw (and replied) on twitter :D
    Oct 24, 2017 1:09 PM - Geof: buildtak!
Oct 24, 2017 1:09 PM - Geof: you wont regret it. To clean it use ISO Alch.
Oct 24, 2017 1:10 PM - Geof: BRB gotta make the trek to the home shop :D
Oct 24, 2017 1:10 PM - KRGraphicsCG: I am going to order some
    Oct 24, 2017 1:10 PM - KRGraphicsCG: and use 4.5x4.5
Oct 24, 2017 1:20 PM - OutsourcedGuru: It might help to have the BuildTak on a bendable magnetic sheet which adheres to magnets or steel.
Oct 24, 2017 8:37 PM - KRGraphicsCG: I do have magnets at work
Oct 24, 2017 8:37 PM - KRGraphicsCG: I would have buy them in strips

Oct 25, 2017 5:04 AM - Geof: KR just remember whatever you add thickness wise to the bed must be removed from your overall build height. I have a heat resistant magnetic strip with spring steel and build tak on many printers (home made build take system) which is nice but you lose quite a bit of height adding it.
Oct 25, 2017 5:51 AM - teknoprep: hi all.. anyone here upgrade their firmware to be able to use mesh bed leveling with a robo 3d r1+ ?
    Oct 25, 2017 5:52 AM - danzca6: yes
Oct 25, 2017 5:52 AM - daniel871: A long time ago, with an older version of the MESH firmware. It worked pretty well once it was set up but required an LCD controller to use properly.
Oct 25, 2017 5:52 AM - danzca6: I am actually installing 1.1.6 with UBL turned on tonight or tomorrow
Oct 25, 2017 5:52 AM - WheresWaldo: Teknoprep, I know Danzca and Ed Ferguson are boith using the newest Marlin on their r1's I think Danzca has an R1 and Ed has an r1+
Oct 25, 2017 5:53 AM - WheresWaldo: Dan you beat me to it.
Oct 25, 2017 5:53 AM - danzca6: Mine is the R1 with leadscrew upgrade, so almost like an R1+
Oct 25, 2017 5:54 AM - teknoprep: here is mine with my extruder upgrades ... https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1760403
Oct 25, 2017 5:54 AM - teknoprep: i now have a fan for cooling as well
Oct 25, 2017 5:54 AM - WheresWaldo: I am using an R2 with MESH, but I plan on trying out UBL in the next day or two. Both can now be done completely with G-codes from the terminal screen.
    Oct 25, 2017 5:55 AM - teknoprep: what is UBL ?
    Oct 25, 2017 5:55 AM - daniel871: Unified-Bed-Leveling IIRC
    Oct 25, 2017 5:55 AM - daniel871: Also LOL at the Flexion.
    Oct 25, 2017 5:55 AM - teknoprep: you don' t like the flexion ?
Oct 25, 2017 5:56 AM - daniel871: I don't like all the effort people put into making it work with the E3D hotend when the Bondtech is a very similar price point with more advantages.
Oct 25, 2017 5:56 AM - WheresWaldo: It is a next level MESH basically an automated MESH with a few other features added.
Oct 25, 2017 5:56 AM - teknoprep: i print faster, more accurately, and no issue with ninjaflex at all
Oct 25, 2017 5:56 AM - daniel871: (since the Flexion is designed for use with MK*-style cooling blocks and hotends.
    Oct 25, 2017 5:57 AM - teknoprep: i am using the e3dv6
Oct 25, 2017 5:57 AM - teknoprep: it was not hard to setup
    Oct 25, 2017 5:57 AM - danzca6: inventive x carriage solution for sure
Oct 25, 2017 5:58 AM - teknoprep: it fits well.. and easy to disconnect if you need to change out parts
    Oct 25, 2017 5:58 AM - danzca6: that's not a dig...just never seen that approach on the robos
Oct 25, 2017 5:58 AM - daniel871: Right. The Flexion is $150 and the Bondtech is $80 unless you buy the stepper motor with it.
    Oct 25, 2017 5:59 AM - teknoprep: my flexion was 99
Oct 25, 2017 5:59 AM - daniel871: Plus you ditched the hotend that comes with the Flexion and swapped in the E3D. It just seems like a lot of extra work for something that ends up having the same performance.
Oct 25, 2017 6:00 AM - teknoprep: i just bought the extruder with no stepper
    Oct 25, 2017 6:00 AM - teknoprep: no hotend
    Oct 25, 2017 6:00 AM - teknoprep: i alreday had an e3dv6 upgrade on the robo3d
    Oct 25, 2017 6:00 AM - teknoprep: i wanted a better extruder that wasn't remote mounted
Oct 25, 2017 6:01 AM - teknoprep: so i decided to do this
Oct 25, 2017 6:01 AM - teknoprep: i also hate the original design of the extruder for the r1
Oct 25, 2017 6:02 AM - teknoprep: its clutsy and not easily reproducible in case of failure
Oct 25, 2017 6:02 AM - daniel871: To be fair, the R1 used an open-source design. Lots of people still use it, but it wasn't exactly optimized for the setup Robo used.
    Oct 25, 2017 6:02 AM - teknoprep: like i build this... https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1752364
    Oct 25, 2017 6:03 AM - daniel871: Here is the Bondtech version: http://shop.bondtech.se/ec/extruders/bmg-extruder.html
Oct 25, 2017 6:03 AM - danzca6: teknoprep, what questions do you have about setting up MESH/UBL?
Oct 25, 2017 6:04 AM - teknoprep: danzca6 do i need to upgrade to a newer reprap / marlin firmware?
    Oct 25, 2017 6:04 AM - teknoprep: if so.. do i just need my configuration.h file ?
Oct 25, 2017 6:04 AM - danzca6: you will need to use the newer firmware WheresWaldo put together
Oct 25, 2017 6:04 AM - teknoprep: or do i have to make other changes to the firmware
    Oct 25, 2017 6:05 AM - teknoprep: ahh .. whereswaldo firmware? where can i download this ?
Oct 25, 2017 6:05 AM - danzca6: WW has the whole thing documented in a thread...whole new firmware files
    Oct 25, 2017 6:05 AM - teknoprep: i don't know WW... where would i check his thread ?
    Oct 25, 2017 6:05 AM - danzca6: http://community.robo3d.com/index.p...6-release-for-robo-r1-r1-plus-variants.18362/
Oct 25, 2017 6:05 AM - danzca6: WW was just hear about a page up
Oct 25, 2017 6:11 AM - WheresWaldo: I'm still here just got sidetracked in another thread.
Oct 25, 2017 6:16 AM - daniel871: I was thinking about putting the Bondtech V1 I've got laying around somewhere on the delta, but then I remembered it went with a massive old stepper with a big planetary gearing system in it that won't fit inside the delta where the current stepper motor is mounted.
Oct 25, 2017 6:16 AM - danzca6: teknoprep, if you decide to go that route and have questions, feel free to ask. I was nervous going into it, but will never go back. And if you have a copy of your current firmware setup, then you can easily revert back. You will need to make changes for the E3DV6 and such. If you don't have the full graphics LCD you may want to comment that out as well. The rest should be good to go for a first start
Oct 25, 2017 6:16 AM - daniel871: (Also a bigger shank required for the gears used back then).
    Oct 25, 2017 6:16 AM - teknoprep: thanks
Oct 25, 2017 6:17 AM - teknoprep: i do have the larger grphics screen
Oct 25, 2017 6:17 AM - teknoprep: why do i need to make changes for the E3DV6.. i would only think i need to make changes for teh extruder
Oct 25, 2017 6:17 AM - teknoprep: since its not geared
Oct 25, 2017 6:18 AM - daniel871: Because Waldo set his firmware files up for the stock Robo setup, which does not use the E3D hotend.
Oct 25, 2017 6:18 AM - danzca6: extruder steps and the thermistor is diff on the V6
Oct 25, 2017 6:18 AM - daniel871: (and the E3D hotend uses a different temp sensor than the Hexagon)
Oct 25, 2017 6:19 AM - teknoprep: oh yeah thanks for that.. i was just going to go through the configuration.h that i have and get all my changes
Oct 25, 2017 6:21 AM - teknoprep: well after this meeting i know what i am going to be doing
    Oct 25, 2017 6:21 AM - teknoprep: w0ot
Oct 25, 2017 6:23 AM - teknoprep: do you have a guide on the e3dv6 hotend.. i want to make sure i have updated everything that i needed to update for the temp probe
Oct 25, 2017 6:27 AM - danzca6: just one setting in the configuration.h. Earch for [BH] and you will find where Waldo has commented what it needs to be for the E3DV6
Oct 25, 2017 6:27 AM - danzca6: you can see all of his changes that way
Oct 25, 2017 6:28 AM - danzca6: if you commented the changes you made in your current setup, it should be an easy compare
Oct 25, 2017 6:28 AM - danzca6: I would go ahead and do another tuning of PID and such since some of the algorithms have changed fromt he older Robo versions of Marlin
Oct 25, 2017 6:30 AM - daniel871: After updating the firmware you only need to run a Gcode file with two lines in it to PID tune the hotend. The PID tuning code on the first line with "U1" on the end of it, then "M500" on the second line.
    Oct 25, 2017 6:30 AM - daniel871: https://i.imgur.com/5O6ruZW.gifv
Oct 25, 2017 6:31 AM - daniel871: Huh, for a second there the forum almost handled a GIFV
    Oct 25, 2017 6:31 AM - danzca6: I saw it Dan
Oct 25, 2017 6:32 AM - teknoprep: saw that too
Oct 25, 2017 6:32 AM - daniel871: Click the link and watch the whole thing. It's pretty good.
Oct 25, 2017 6:32 AM - danzca6: I'll take my hands off the bars at times on long rides, but I never get that comfy
Oct 25, 2017 6:34 AM - daniel871: I like the part where he's playing with the folks watching him like he's pulling on air to change lanes and get to the exit lane.
    Oct 25, 2017 7:32 AM - teknoprep: how do i start a PID autotune ?
Oct 25, 2017 7:32 AM - teknoprep: with this firmware
    Oct 25, 2017 7:32 AM - teknoprep: from WW
Oct 25, 2017 7:39 AM - teknoprep: quick question.. if i add + Y axis should the tray move toward me or away ?
Oct 25, 2017 7:40 AM - teknoprep: can someone please check this ? i would like to know if i have my directions correct
    Oct 25, 2017 7:40 AM - teknoprep: z and x are easy
    Oct 25, 2017 7:40 AM - danzca6: 0 is the back of the printer for Y
    Oct 25, 2017 7:41 AM - danzca6: or is it...darn...I don't have mine in front of me
    Oct 25, 2017 7:42 AM - teknoprep: 0 is tray way back
Oct 25, 2017 7:42 AM - danzca6: for PID tuning, look at the configuration.h file. The commands for both extruder and heated bed PID tuning are both there
    Oct 25, 2017 7:42 AM - teknoprep: i just figured it out
    Oct 25, 2017 7:42 AM - teknoprep: f'n inverted y direction was bad
    Oct 25, 2017 7:43 AM - teknoprep: i mean x direction
Oct 25, 2017 7:44 AM - teknoprep: i can level bed using the wheel ?
    Oct 25, 2017 7:47 AM - WheresWaldo: M303 E0 C8 S200 - extruder at 200°C for 8 cycles
    Oct 25, 2017 7:47 AM - teknoprep: WW ? is that for me ?
    Oct 25, 2017 7:47 AM - WheresWaldo: M303 E-1 C8 S60 - bed at 60°C for 8 cycles
Oct 25, 2017 7:48 AM - WheresWaldo: That is for everyone that needs to PID autotune.
Oct 25, 2017 7:48 AM - teknoprep: do i need the hotend to be hot ?
Oct 25, 2017 7:48 AM - WheresWaldo: That is how autotune works
Oct 25, 2017 7:48 AM - WheresWaldo: It will heat up the hotend by itself then stop heating when done.
    Oct 25, 2017 7:48 AM - teknoprep: i don't want to burn my buildtak
Oct 25, 2017 7:49 AM - teknoprep: or does this actually print something
Oct 25, 2017 7:49 AM - WheresWaldo: You don't autotune with the nozzle touching the bed, raise it like 30 mm.
    Oct 25, 2017 7:49 AM - danzca6: it won't move the hotend
    Oct 25, 2017 7:49 AM - teknoprep: gotcha

    Oct 25, 2017 7:49 AM - teknoprep: this doesn't do UBL then
    Oct 25, 2017 7:50 AM - danzca6: that is a different command
Oct 25, 2017 7:50 AM - teknoprep: yeah i was trying to get UBL started
    Oct 25, 2017 7:50 AM - danzca6: M303 is just for PID tuning
Oct 25, 2017 7:50 AM - WheresWaldo: Mesh does mesh, UBL does UBL. I prefer MESH, but others prefer UBL since it is more automated.
    Oct 25, 2017 7:51 AM - WheresWaldo: Mesh instruction http://marlinfw.org/docs/gcode/G029-mbl.html
    Oct 25, 2017 7:52 AM - WheresWaldo: UBL instructions http://marlinfw.org/docs/gcode/G029-ubl.html
Oct 25, 2017 7:52 AM - danzca6: you can do a cold probe for mesh/ubl setup. I did a hot nozzle and bed to account for expansion, but I don't use the nozzle to probe. I have an IR height sensor. So my nozzle never hits the bed.
    Oct 25, 2017 7:52 AM - danzca6: if you use buildtak, I would do a cold probe
Oct 25, 2017 7:53 AM - WheresWaldo: Any leveling scheme will be more accurate at printing temperatures, but sometimes you just have to do it cold, like when you use buildtak
Oct 25, 2017 7:54 AM - danzca6: could still warm the bed to whatever you normally print at to account for some expansion differences
Oct 25, 2017 7:56 AM - teknoprep: how long does autopid take ?
Oct 25, 2017 7:57 AM - danzca6: WW, does UBL have an LCD menu item to start the probing procedure? I know MESH did
Oct 25, 2017 7:57 AM - teknoprep: how do i save autopid after it completes to the eeprom ?
Oct 25, 2017 7:59 AM - daniel871: I posted how to do that earlier this morning.
Oct 25, 2017 7:59 AM - daniel871: Or commented in this shoutbox anyway. You run the PID command with "U1" on the end after all the variables about temperatures and cycles. Then you send M500 to commit it to EEPROM so it survives power cycles.
Oct 25, 2017 8:00 AM - WheresWaldo: Dan It does somewhere, I just don't remember what submenu it is.
    Oct 25, 2017 8:01 AM - daniel871: M303 E0 C8 S200 U1 will save the results, then M500 to commit it to EEPROM.
Oct 25, 2017 8:01 AM - WheresWaldo: line 966 and I may not have enabled it by default.
    Oct 25, 2017 8:01 AM - daniel871: No submenu needed.
Oct 25, 2017 8:01 AM - daniel871: Same thing for the bed PID. Put "U1" on the end to tell it to make the average it comes up with active and then M500.
    Oct 25, 2017 8:02 AM - WheresWaldo: the line is #define LCD_BED_LEVELING
Oct 25, 2017 8:02 AM - daniel871: For the tuning, not the leveling, sorry.
Oct 25, 2017 8:02 AM - danzca6: PID tuning can be saved by either taking the final values, plugging it into the firmware configuration.h file and reflashing, or you can do a M304 for the bed and a M301 for the hotend and do an M500. Or what daniel suggested
Oct 25, 2017 8:02 AM - WheresWaldo: Yeah confusing I am responding to Dan not teknoprep.
Oct 25, 2017 8:03 AM - danzca6: ok, yeah I saw that line this weekend and enabled it
    Oct 25, 2017 8:03 AM - danzca6: that makes things a bit easier
    Oct 25, 2017 8:03 AM - daniel871: http://marlinfw.org/docs/gcode/M303.html
    Oct 25, 2017 8:03 AM - daniel871: The documentation for how to use M303 is there, @teknoprep
Oct 25, 2017 8:04 AM - daniel871: Without the "U1" on the end you have to do some manual code sending in the terminal to add the values it comes up with and make them active.
    Oct 25, 2017 8:04 AM - danzca6: always several ways to skin a cat
Oct 25, 2017 8:05 AM - daniel871: Yeah, I'm just a fan of skinning it as quickly as possible.
Oct 25, 2017 8:09 AM - daniel871: Gettin' my schadenfreude for the day by posting in the Glowforge group about how watching them complain about shipping dates being pushed out again is an amazing case study of a "sunk cost trap".
    Oct 25, 2017 9:01 AM - teknoprep: hey the 2 dan's
    Oct 25, 2017 9:01 AM - teknoprep: and ww
Oct 25, 2017 9:01 AM - teknoprep: thanks for this shit man.. working great
    Oct 25, 2017 9:01 AM - teknoprep: i like it
    Oct 25, 2017 9:01 AM - teknoprep: should i run G29 P3 T
Oct 25, 2017 9:01 AM - teknoprep: or is that not neccessary ?
Oct 25, 2017 9:04 AM - WheresWaldo: Unnecessary, I think that was designed for spots the probe cannot get to.
    Oct 25, 2017 9:04 AM - teknoprep: cool
Oct 25, 2017 9:05 AM - WheresWaldo: Remember on the R1 series the nozzle is the probe, so if the nozzle can't get there you can't print there anyway.
Oct 25, 2017 9:05 AM - teknoprep: do i need to run M420 S1 to enable ubl at turn on ?
Oct 25, 2017 9:06 AM - teknoprep: i am getting mixed info on other forums / threads
Oct 25, 2017 9:07 AM - WheresWaldo: If it is enabled with M420 S1 then saved with M500 it should always be enabled unless the grid is overwritten.
Oct 25, 2017 9:07 AM - WheresWaldo: So just the first time to be sure.
Oct 25, 2017 9:10 AM - teknoprep: every time i type m420 s1 it responds with bed leveling off
    Oct 25, 2017 9:10 AM - danzca6: did you G28 first?
    Oct 25, 2017 9:11 AM - teknoprep: yes
    Oct 25, 2017 9:11 AM - teknoprep: Send: M420 s1 Recv: echo:Bed Leveling Off Recv: ok
    Oct 25, 2017 9:12 AM - teknoprep: i don't need m420 if i am using UBL ?
    Oct 25, 2017 9:13 AM - danzca6: what if you do an M420 V1
Oct 25, 2017 9:13 AM - danzca6: that should show the values stored
Oct 25, 2017 9:14 AM - teknoprep: bed leveling off
    Oct 25, 2017 9:14 AM - danzca6: http://marlinfw.org/docs/features/unified_bed_leveling.html
    Oct 25, 2017 9:15 AM - teknoprep: i am following this
    Oct 25, 2017 9:15 AM - teknoprep: exactly
    Oct 25, 2017 9:23 AM - teknoprep: yeah i don't get it
    Oct 25, 2017 9:23 AM - teknoprep: i can print test modules with g26
    Oct 25, 2017 9:23 AM - teknoprep: but m420 s1 shows bed leveling off
    Oct 25, 2017 9:23 AM - danzca6: interesting....never knew about the G26 mesh validation pattern command....of course haven't used UBL only MESH
Oct 25, 2017 9:27 AM - danzca6: I get my new board for my other printer in tonight. I was waiting to have that one up before putting the 1.1.6 ubl on the robo. I'll see if I get to it tonight and have the same issue
Oct 25, 2017 9:28 AM - daniel871: Did you cycle the power after updating the firmware?
    Oct 25, 2017 9:29 AM - teknoprep: yes
    Oct 25, 2017 9:29 AM - teknoprep: ahh nvm
    Oct 25, 2017 9:29 AM - teknoprep: i mean its working
Oct 25, 2017 9:29 AM - danzca6: that guide seems to be 1.1.2 as well
Oct 25, 2017 9:29 AM - danzca6: wonder if anything new was added
    Oct 25, 2017 9:29 AM - teknoprep: but i need a z offset
Oct 25, 2017 9:30 AM - teknoprep: its pushing a bit too hard into the platform
    Oct 25, 2017 9:33 AM - danzca6: http://marlinfw.org/docs/gcode/M851.html
Oct 25, 2017 9:36 AM - teknoprep: Recv: Unified Bed Leveling system initialized.
Oct 25, 2017 9:37 AM - teknoprep: does this mean when i boot up the system its initilized and working
Oct 25, 2017 9:37 AM - teknoprep: i get this before that msg above Recv: UBL not active!
Oct 25, 2017 9:37 AM - teknoprep: AND THEN I GET THE ubl INITIALIZED STUFF

    Oct 26, 2017 6:38 AM - teknoprep: how do i set a z offset with UBL
Oct 26, 2017 6:38 AM - teknoprep: nothing i seem to do makes it raise up
Oct 26, 2017 6:40 AM - Geof: @teknoprep I dont use UBL right now on the Robos. I'd suggest starting a troubleshooting thread so users that do help you can assist. Most dont view the shoutbox.

Oct 26, 2017 9:06 AM - daniel871: Huh. Just saw that #nationalpumpkinday was "trending" on Twitter. Trump is going to get mad and start mocking Republican congressman again today.
    Oct 26, 2017 9:16 AM - JeffTheMess: lulz
Oct 26, 2017 9:18 AM - daniel871: Assuming he stops bragging about a Republican-controlled House and Republican-controlled Senate passing a budget after having 10 months to argue about it, or that he can stop fellating the guy that pulled a soft-coup in China.

Oct 26, 2017 9:36 AM - daniel871: He is. Every speech he gives is followed by donation requests to support his 2020 campaign.
    Oct 26, 2017 9:53 AM - danzca6: teknoprep, what command(s) are you using? M581 should work
    Oct 26, 2017 9:58 AM - daniel871: 851?
    Oct 26, 2017 11:58 AM - danzca6: hahaha...yes...851....fingers didn't do what brain said
    Oct 26, 2017 11:59 AM - Geof: Hey Danz
Oct 26, 2017 12:10 PM - teknoprep: so yeah UBL does REALLY nice job on printing
Oct 26, 2017 12:10 PM - teknoprep: little bit of white glue stick on the glass.. i used m851 z+0.90 for my Z offset and things have been printing perfect
    Oct 26, 2017 3:31 PM - danzca6: Hey Geof...sorry been busy all day at a client
Oct 26, 2017 3:32 PM - danzca6: teknoprep, great to hear you are all set with UBL

Oct 27, 2017 5:00 AM - Geof: Hey Daniel. Happy Friday.
Oct 27, 2017 5:20 AM - daniel871: It's going to be a really, really long one. Got a pile of feedback/notes from field guys that basically boil down to "all that info we sent you before was wrong and you now have to rapidly redesign everything per this new info we're sending you".
Oct 27, 2017 5:46 AM - Geof: lol sounds about like normal :D

Oct 27, 2017 6:50 AM - Geof: lol I just replied to the thread I started on that.

It has a metal powder coated plate and I was looking at cutting this to size and putting the spring steel on top. Is the max pull of 200 lbs reason for concern? Just don't want the spring steel stuck too well. https://www.mcmaster.com/#3327k3/=1a1438i

Oct 30, 2017 4:06 AM - daniel871: Update post in the Monoprice Mini Delta thread.
Oct 30, 2017 6:20 AM - daniel871: Apparently, the Titan adjusting spring doesn't function well at all in PLA unless it's just barely tightened from the fully opened/loose position.
Oct 30, 2017 2:01 PM - Toro1966: Received my Tornado. Pretty decent so far. A couple of minor issues. Titan extruder knockoff could be significantly improved. Bed is nice but PEI sheet adhesive is causing the sheet to lift and bubble ins ome areas already. Started a 60 hour print last night. We'll see how that turns out or if I get spaghetti...
Oct 30, 2017 2:45 PM - WheresWaldo: How is the Tornado different than the CR10?
Oct 30, 2017 2:57 PM - daniel871: More likely to catch fire and bad wheels on extrusion vs. V-wheels/slots.
Oct 30, 2017 3:05 PM - Toro1966: What a pessimist Daniel. CR10 has a few differences. Biggest one is better board and 24v. So heated bed heats up very nicely. Also has a titan-clone extruder. It doesn't work badly as muich as it requires adjustmet and where they put the adjutsment, you can't get to without removing it - so no way to adjust tension on the fly. The whole fire thing is not true and not an issue.
Oct 30, 2017 3:06 PM - Toro1966: It is very similar in all other fashion to the CR-10.

    Oct 31, 2017 8:19 AM - danzca6:
    Oct 31, 2017 8:21 AM - danzca6: $2400 and the PRO-L is $4400? <cough> crack pipe <cough>
Oct 31, 2017 8:28 AM - daniel871: Man, this extruder motor stopping randomly is bugging me.
    Oct 31, 2017 8:30 AM - danzca6: is it over heating?
    Oct 31, 2017 8:31 AM - danzca6: I wouldn't think the spacer would cause these probs
Oct 31, 2017 8:31 AM - daniel871: Unknown. Heatsinks are in place and when I checked the everything underneath nothing appeared obviously wrong. Fan plug was loose so I pushed that back into place in case that was the issue but I'm not getting far past a skirt before the motor just gives up the ghost.
Oct 31, 2017 8:32 AM - daniel871: Actual stepper is cool to the touch.
Oct 31, 2017 8:32 AM - daniel871: Tomorrow I'll mount the blower fan I mention in the thread about this printer and have it pointed directly at the stepper drivers to be sure.
Oct 31, 2017 8:32 AM - daniel871: (stock fan is a basic case fan that is pointed toward the heat bed, electronics are off to one side).
Oct 31, 2017 8:33 AM - daniel871: I can tell the printer to extrude at 7mm/s for 100mm with the control panel in Simplify3d and everything run fine. But once an actual print starts it quits running and spins free.
Oct 31, 2017 8:35 AM - daniel871: Next test is to change Simplify3D to Relative Extrusion moves and make sure M83 is in my starting Gcode as a "Why not? Maybe some weird Absolute Extrusion number is fucking it up" because just before it fails it will spin super-fast.
Oct 31, 2017 8:35 AM - WheresWaldo: Dan could it be the acceleration of the E axis. I noted on my R1 that routinely E was set to an Acceleration of 10000 or more and sometimes it would just jitter instead of actually move. Just a thought.
    Oct 31, 2017 8:36 AM - daniel871: Hm...
Oct 31, 2017 8:36 AM - daniel871: That's what M503 reports for the extruder here. What did you change yours to?
Oct 31, 2017 8:37 AM - WheresWaldo: I just dropped it to around 8K. I think for ease of reading the code the R2 is set to 1000. Plenty fast for a slow extruder.
Oct 31, 2017 8:38 AM - daniel871: Hm. I'll give that a try as well when the guy in the next desk over goes to lunch.
Oct 31, 2017 8:41 AM - daniel871: Posted a copy-paste of the current M503 values in the thread for this printer -- The Monoprice Maker Select Mini Delta.
Oct 31, 2017 8:41 AM - daniel871: (already applied the slightly slower extruder acceleration)
Oct 31, 2017 9:33 AM - daniel871: Hm. Test going now, we'll see if it gets further than the last few attempts.
Oct 31, 2017 9:39 AM - daniel871: Nope. Stalls out at about the same time.
    Oct 31, 2017 9:39 AM - daniel871: S3D not reporting a single error.
Oct 31, 2017 9:50 AM - daniel871: This time it locked up instead of shutting off/spinning freely though.
Oct 31, 2017 10:02 AM - WheresWaldo: I'm drawing a blank on what you can try next.
Oct 31, 2017 10:07 AM - daniel871: I'm getting about 30 minutes out of it, so I'm running a quick/ugly spacer to replace that dampener with just in case some odd misalignment is happening that binds/contributes to some kind of feedback/shutdown situation.
Oct 31, 2017 10:08 AM - daniel871: Next step is replacing the stepper itself because I have one on hand. If the fan that I bring in tomorrow doesn't help with the motherboard cooling/still has issues then the board itself may have been overheated too much already.
    Oct 31, 2017 10:54 AM - danzca6: daniel...side note...Is did see that their calculation for the 418.5 steps/mm is based on 16x microstepping and 200 steps/rev. I the E setup different on this Delta?
    Oct 31, 2017 11:06 AM - daniel871: I believe so. The stock esteps were 48.5/mm
Oct 31, 2017 11:06 AM - daniel871: To get the same 100mm extrusion as the stock extruder I had to change it to 209.25 based on the 418.5 pulling 200mm.
    Oct 31, 2017 11:06 AM - daniel871: When asking for only 100mm.
Oct 31, 2017 11:10 AM - danzca6: ok that makes sense why it was half the standard
Oct 31, 2017 11:11 AM - danzca6: the flex in the damper might introduce some oddity I guess....good idea to just eliminate that variable though
Oct 31, 2017 11:12 AM - daniel871: Yeah. I figure if doing that and adding the fan directly blowing across the control board doesn't stop it I'll just chalk it up as the system not being able to keep up with the Titan's step requirement and put the stock extruder back on.

Nov 1, 2017 4:30 AM - Hanover: Are the troubleshooting articles on the R2 new? Or have I just not looked in the right place for a couple of months? ;)
    Nov 1, 2017 5:17 AM - daniel871: There are troubleshooting articles?
Nov 1, 2017 5:18 AM - Geof: not new if you mean the docs on the robo "other forum" area lol
    Nov 1, 2017 5:42 AM - WheresWaldo: Zendesk - https://help.robo3d.com/hc/en-us/categories/115000096051-Robo-R2
Nov 1, 2017 6:05 AM - Hanover: ^^ those. Videos on how to disassemble the extruder assembly, etc.
Nov 1, 2017 6:07 AM - daniel871: What's the countdown on this forum being archived and the community dying, again?
Nov 1, 2017 6:08 AM - Hanover: Glad they have a solution for the clacking noises too. I'll be replacing my bearings, cleaning up the assembly and getting my R2 in better shape this weekend.
Nov 1, 2017 6:09 AM - Geof: Daniel nobody knows.
Nov 1, 2017 6:09 AM - Geof: if or when. None of us are privy to that information.
Nov 1, 2017 6:16 AM - daniel871: I thought the Robo rep that was talking about it in the shoutbox said something about when they wanted to migrate 100% to Zendesk.
Nov 1, 2017 6:20 AM - Geof: I'm sure they do, they wouldn't sink the resources into developing the other one if that wasn't the plan I wouldn't think :D
Nov 1, 2017 6:20 AM - Geof: and people from here can choose to go there if they like, some wont ;)
Nov 1, 2017 6:29 AM - WheresWaldo: Zendesk is very clunky as a community forum. If they really wanted to save money there are free choices like phpBB, simplemachines, mybb, etc.
    Nov 1, 2017 6:52 AM - danzca6: man...just got a qoute for cutting some 1095 spring steel on a local waterjet....$100....Angle grinder it is...hahaha
Nov 1, 2017 6:54 AM - danzca6: that price didn't include the tax or materials.
Nov 1, 2017 7:43 AM - WheresWaldo: So I am looking at Amazon's deals and they have those timed deals this time of year, found some MagicSpace PLA for $13 / Kg roll. Don't know how good it is but they advertise +-0.03 tolerances.
Nov 1, 2017 7:45 AM - WheresWaldo: Seems to be select colors most are $15.29 per roll. Fulfilled by Amazon.
Nov 1, 2017 7:45 AM - danzca6: do they have any color other than orange and yellow at that price?
    Nov 1, 2017 7:51 AM - danzca6: orange it is then
    Nov 1, 2017 7:51 AM - danzca6: :)
    Nov 1, 2017 7:55 AM - WheresWaldo: And it's Prime shipping too.
Nov 1, 2017 7:57 AM - danzca6: an no sales tax....win win...win...hahaha Thanks for the heads up WW
Nov 1, 2017 7:57 AM - daniel871: I wish Melca filament was still available, they had some decent PLA (for the rare time you want to print something in PLA) but they've gone mysteriously out of stock with no apparent plans to restock on Amazon.
    Nov 1, 2017 7:57 AM - daniel871: Like $12/spool all the time.
Nov 1, 2017 7:58 AM - daniel871: Probably couldn't sustain the business cutting profit that far down for whatever their process was in manufacturing.
    Nov 1, 2017 8:01 AM - danzca6: i bet it prints better than makergeeks
Nov 1, 2017 8:01 AM - daniel871: So far I'm not at all impressed with their filaments that aren't PETG.
Nov 1, 2017 8:14 AM - WheresWaldo: I still buy eSun but I do have a few rolls of Hatchbox, which I like, and I just picked up a roll of SunLu woodfill.
Nov 1, 2017 8:31 AM - danzca6: man, just got a payout from Thingiverse for tips...not sure who tipped for what, because nothing I design is worth anything
    Nov 1, 2017 8:46 AM - daniel871: Thingiverse pays out?
Nov 1, 2017 9:20 AM - danzca6: yeah...there is a feature to have people tip you and if you register your paypal with thingiverse, then I guess you can get paid.
Nov 1, 2017 9:20 AM - daniel871: Huh. Well, it won't hurt to have set up I guess. Need to post actual designs that I care to share though.
Nov 1, 2017 9:37 AM - WheresWaldo: Yep I think this past year I got like $12 total from Thingiverse
    Nov 1, 2017 9:39 AM - danzca6: hey, that will buy you a pizza
Nov 1, 2017 9:39 AM - danzca6: you probably make way more on your etsy store
Nov 1, 2017 9:53 AM - WheresWaldo: Can't get rich on tips from Thingiverse, but it is kinda like a nice unexpected present when you do get tipped.
Nov 1, 2017 9:54 AM - danzca6: is there a way to see who tipped you or what model got a tip?
Nov 1, 2017 10:48 AM - daniel871: If it's not under the Order History section it probably isn't viewable.
Nov 1, 2017 12:36 PM - daniel871: OK. Blower fan installed and re-running the last test program from yesterday. Fingers crossed.
Nov 1, 2017 12:57 PM - daniel871: Welp. Extruder was running fine, but some back pressure built up or something and the filament just stripped right out while the extruder happily continued on like nothing was wrong.
Nov 1, 2017 12:57 PM - daniel871: One problem down, now to just fiddle with print settings until I figure out what the problem is.
    Nov 1, 2017 5:57 PM - danzca6: hmmm...think this would work on 0.035" spring steel? Interesting approach.
