Jan 6, 2018 8:04 AM - becca3940: When I print the R2_Test_Print gcode it works perfectly, then when I try to print a project using the same z offset , my print lines are thin and don't stick to the print bed then get hung up on extruder. I am not sure how to get my cura settings the same as the test print, any help would be appreciated
Jan 6, 2018 8:36 AM - Geof: Hi Becca, can you start a thread in the R2 trouble shooting so we can help you out. Thanks !
    Jan 6, 2018 10:07 AM - becca3940: thanks
Jan 6, 2018 10:18 AM - becca3940: I just tried to start a thread it says I need 3 posts before I can add a link to prevent spam
Jan 6, 2018 10:35 AM - Geof: Hi Becca, please do an introduction thread then 2 random posts and state the reason so you can do your links and photos
Jan 6, 2018 10:35 AM - Geof: The forum does that to help limit spam, you'd be amazed how much there is :)

    Jan 7, 2018 10:31 AM - mark tomlinson: :)
Jan 7, 2018 10:31 AM - mark tomlinson: For that model anything works. Well, not playdoh, but pretty much any filament :)
Jan 7, 2018 12:07 PM - jim3Dbot: Glad to hear, one is complete in PLA.....the ABS was trouble on this model......and his printer is a V1..........Black Friday.....$130.00 free ship.........such a deal!........I'll shoot a pic soon

    Jan 8, 2018 5:15 AM - WheresWaldo: Morning Geof
Jan 8, 2018 5:27 AM - Geof: Hey Waldo Good Morning. How goes it.
Jan 8, 2018 5:31 AM - Geof: Waldo its not HP but its Kodak (again?) lol https://all3dp.com/kodak-celebrates-anniversary-launch-new-3d-printing-ecosystem/
Jan 8, 2018 5:39 AM - WheresWaldo: Well that was interesting, I am following CES because my daughter wants a 75" TV So I look at that coverage and also PC coverage to see if I can benfit from any PC upgrades.
Jan 8, 2018 5:42 AM - WheresWaldo: The Kodak is on sale during CES for $1820, list price is $2799. Too much to be a consumer product unless it includes on site support.
    Jan 8, 2018 5:42 AM - WheresWaldo: https://www.kodak.com/science/3d-printing/3d-printers/default.htm
    Jan 8, 2018 5:45 AM - Geof: 1,820?
    Jan 8, 2018 5:45 AM - Geof: thats cheap.
Jan 8, 2018 5:46 AM - WheresWaldo: It's a big discount, but one week only and its preorder, not shipping until April.
Jan 8, 2018 5:47 AM - WheresWaldo: I almost have 85 mm/s print speed tuned perfectly for the R2 PLA only
    Jan 8, 2018 5:47 AM - Geof: hell my UM2 was 3k lol :D
Jan 8, 2018 5:48 AM - Geof: I bought the sigma on release (original gen) and it was 2560.00 and took 6 months to get here ! lol
Jan 8, 2018 5:48 AM - WheresWaldo: Same build area as the R2 for the Kodak
Jan 8, 2018 5:48 AM - Geof: I'm curious to see how those stepper smoothers hold up long term.
    Jan 8, 2018 5:48 AM - WheresWaldo: 200 x 200 x 250
    Jan 8, 2018 5:48 AM - Geof: I saw very similar. (R2 is 196 ;) lol)
    Jan 8, 2018 5:48 AM - WheresWaldo: My R2 is 198 x 198 x 260 set a bit smaller on purpose.
Jan 8, 2018 5:48 AM - Geof: I dig their auto load the 2nd material set up
    Jan 8, 2018 5:49 AM - WheresWaldo: I didn't look careful enough once I saw the pricing.
Jan 8, 2018 5:49 AM - Geof: mine cant exceed 196 on the X without modification (not worth it to me yet)
Jan 8, 2018 5:49 AM - Geof: filament run out and when runs out the 2nd spool for extruder 2 is loaded to finish the print
Jan 8, 2018 5:51 AM - Geof: Waldo your mystery package show up yet? Tracking shows in champaign yesterday so should arrive today.
Jan 8, 2018 5:51 AM - WheresWaldo: I never got a tracking number so I have no idea.
Jan 8, 2018 6:07 AM - Geof: from Robo? Spam folder? Search Stamps
    Jan 8, 2018 6:07 AM - WheresWaldo: Nope nothing
    Jan 8, 2018 6:12 AM - Geof: wierd.
Jan 8, 2018 6:12 AM - Geof: I got ship notification like wednesday last week adn it shipped out Friday 3 day.
Jan 8, 2018 6:12 AM - Geof: no signature required so its not a machine lol.
Jan 8, 2018 6:13 AM - WheresWaldo: I got a message from Braydon last week asking for confirmation of my contact information, afterd that nothing.
Jan 8, 2018 6:14 AM - Geof: wierd. Probably showing up today as well for you. I'd think we are about the same distance from Robo H!
    Jan 8, 2018 6:14 AM - Geof: HQ***
Jan 8, 2018 6:15 AM - WheresWaldo: MAybe, not holding my breath for several reasons.
Jan 8, 2018 6:23 AM - WheresWaldo: Printing Deprime in ABS @ 80 mm/s I have never had one print as nice as this, sharp corners and smooth sides.
Jan 8, 2018 6:23 AM - WheresWaldo: Will post a picture when its done.
Jan 8, 2018 6:23 AM - Geof: will be interesting to see that.
Jan 8, 2018 6:24 AM - Geof: whats the actual speed after the underrides and the such (guesstimate)
    Jan 8, 2018 6:24 AM - Kilrah: cool
Jan 8, 2018 6:25 AM - WheresWaldo: So layer size is 0.14 mm and the actual print time looks to be about 45 minutes.
Jan 8, 2018 6:26 AM - WheresWaldo: My profiles are High = 0.14, Med = 0.30, Fast = 0.44 because all those have no fractional steps.
    Jan 8, 2018 6:27 AM - WheresWaldo: With the 0.60 nozzle
    Jan 8, 2018 6:48 AM - WheresWaldo: [IMG]
Jan 8, 2018 6:49 AM - WheresWaldo: Too hot, there is some stringing
Jan 8, 2018 6:50 AM - WheresWaldo: There was a stupid setting in the skirt, it was 2 layers so the bottom doesn't look as good.
Jan 8, 2018 6:58 AM - WheresWaldo: OctoPrint timed it at 43 minutes (but that includes heating time). Printing it now at 90 mm/s
    Jan 8, 2018 7:04 AM - Geof: looks good!
Jan 8, 2018 7:09 AM - WheresWaldo: No ringing at all
Jan 8, 2018 7:11 AM - WheresWaldo: So Robo mainboard 2.1.8 is supposed to add a DAC to help with Stepper issues. Not sure how they implemented it but it also requires changes to Marlin, it isn't transparent. We have mainboard 2.1.5
Jan 8, 2018 7:12 AM - Geof: yea I heard rumor from them about eventually fixing the ringing in the hardware, but have not heard exactly what rev board and I do not believe they are being suupplied.
Jan 8, 2018 7:13 AM - WheresWaldo: I think they only have samples, this is based on changes made to their GITHUB, no inside knowledge.
Jan 8, 2018 7:16 AM - Geof: ah gotya. yea last I heard the newest board rev will not relieve the ringing (whats in newly produced machines) but they are working on something due to complaints
Jan 8, 2018 7:16 AM - WheresWaldo: Would be nice if they just used TMC drivers
Jan 8, 2018 7:18 AM - Geof: agreed. I asked for the revision to just be replaceable stepper drivers but I think that fell on deaf ears.
Jan 8, 2018 7:18 AM - Geof: at least then the user could put any damn thing in they want lol.
Jan 8, 2018 7:19 AM - Geof: what really sucks is they are SMT chips so cant even put headers on the dang board lol. super weak
Jan 8, 2018 7:29 AM - WheresWaldo: I am pretty sure they think the DAC is the answer, they could have just done a scrubber circuit (like the smoothers) and it would have done what they need without having to change Marlin source at all.
Jan 8, 2018 7:32 AM - Kilrah: probably going for adjustabilty
Jan 8, 2018 7:32 AM - Kilrah: and if those smoothers only last X hours it's not fun to support either
Jan 8, 2018 7:33 AM - WheresWaldo: Anectdotal They have been used for a long time in many other inductive applications. The tech is not new.
Jan 8, 2018 8:15 AM - WheresWaldo: More reading, the 8 diode ones appear to be better than the 4 diode versions, but it sdcrubs some voltage from the stepper and it cause more heat to be produced by the driver chips so msybe heat failures can account for short lifespans, although I can find no reports of that.
Jan 8, 2018 1:51 PM - WheresWaldo: Decided to make an adapter cable for the R2 V1 bed, since I found the actual AMP connector I can use one of these AMP 5-103945-7 which is a cable end crimp connector that fits the cable harness plug.

Jan 11, 2018 5:22 AM - WheresWaldo: Geof, I think I figured out a way to add a Titan extruder without modifying any of the R2. That makes it completely reversable.
    Jan 11, 2018 5:22 AM - Geof: but not the V6 ?
Jan 11, 2018 5:23 AM - WheresWaldo: No way to add a V6 without modifying something.
Jan 11, 2018 5:24 AM - WheresWaldo: But the extruder is a real upgrade too, compared to what is included.
    Jan 11, 2018 5:26 AM - Geof: I bet so.
Jan 11, 2018 5:27 AM - Geof: So far I've not had any real extrusion issues (while using the promethius) but will keep it in mind. I've got a couple titans runing around somewhere.
    Jan 11, 2018 5:44 AM - WheresWaldo: I was able to use a 20 mm Nema 17, but I think a 25 - 34 mm would be better.
Jan 11, 2018 6:10 AM - Geof: I typically use a larger stepper than most with a Titan just to be "sure" if that makes sense.
Jan 11, 2018 6:36 AM - WheresWaldo: The whole point of the 3:1 gearing is that it amplifies the torque, so you can use a smaller motor. But I think 256 oz/in is about the sweet spot (that is about 25 mm depth).
Jan 11, 2018 11:43 AM - WheresWaldo: I just spent 5 minutes on Facebook and now my head hurts
Jan 11, 2018 11:49 AM - Geof: thats facebook for you.
    Jan 11, 2018 12:25 PM - Dan: What's up guys
    Jan 11, 2018 12:35 PM - Geof: hey Dan
    Jan 11, 2018 12:37 PM - Dan: Geof - just emailed you

    Jan 11, 2018 12:58 PM - Geof: hey Dan,

Jan 12, 2018 at 5:07 AM - Geof: Morning Jeff. How goes it ?
    Jan 12, 2018 at 5:07 AM - JeffTheMess: it's goin' Happy Friday
Jan 12, 2018 at 5:28 AM - WheresWaldo: Geof, the white PEI plate was a disaster. I have some Buildtak in my Amazon wish list, but what is online appears to be 0.5 mm and Robo appears to have used 0.8 mm sheets.
Jan 12, 2018 at 5:40 AM - jim3Dbot: Hi WW, okay can pop in for a sec........but, as you may already know.....but, in case of.....PEI is prenear transparent to IR, assuming what's under the PEI is flat black......
Jan 12, 2018 at 5:48 AM - Geof: If its real build tak I'm pretty sure its only one thickness ??? Maybe they have some "build grip" style stuff :D.
Jan 12, 2018 at 5:54 AM - WheresWaldo: The PEI came from China, so who knows if it is actually PEI and it was solid white. But I did some repeatability tests on the two build plates I have and the black which was upon calibration much better at being consistent than the white. One thing when measured the white sheet triggered 17 mm higher than the black on Robo's IR. neither was perfect the White had a range of alm ost .4 mm and the Black was about .2 mm range between highest and prob
Jan 12, 2018 at 5:55 AM - WheresWaldo: lowest probe points.
Jan 12, 2018 at 5:59 AM - WheresWaldo: I can't find anywhere on Buildtak's website where they mention the thickness, you wouldn't happen to know offhand what it is?
Jan 12, 2018 at 7:02 AM - Geof: not offhand
Jan 12, 2018 at 7:02 AM - Geof: I dont think I have any spare sheets running around anymore

Jan 14, 2018 7:43 AM - MaxGause: I have a Robo r3 Plus rinter and was curious to know if any of you may know the max safe extruder temperature.
    Jan 14, 2018 8:36 AM - Geof: So a robo R1+. Can't recall what the shut off I with stock hotend and firmware. I think 250-260 C
Jan 14, 2018 8:47 AM - WheresWaldo: Actually 280° C or 290° C in the Robo firmware, depending on version.
Jan 14, 2018 8:48 AM - WheresWaldo: Latest versions, original was as low as Geof says.
Jan 14, 2018 4:02 PM - Scott Tobin: Any of the XXL lcd users here use autotemp?
Jan 14, 2018 4:12 PM - Scott Tobin: Also what does the change filiment feature do as far as movement compared to pausing the print, raising the z axis, changing filament, lowering z and resuming? thanks
Jan 14, 2018 4:29 PM - Geof: Scott, are you using stock firmware ?
Jan 14, 2018 4:30 PM - Geof: Your best bet is to start a thread with questions :)
Jan 14, 2018 4:47 PM - Scott Tobin: I modified the original firmware some but otherwise stock, yes. Was just a curiosity question as I can never get autotemp to work but it really isnt something i need. Thanks anyways though :)
Jan 14, 2018 4:48 PM - Scott Tobin: But how is the 1.7 firmware, is there any noticable difference in print quality from stock firmware to 1.7 or is it just more user control within the firmware?
    Jan 14, 2018 4:54 PM - Geof: I use nm
    Jan 14, 2018 4:54 PM - Geof: Mesh firmware
Jan 14, 2018 4:55 PM - Geof: Can't really confirm all or any of the upsides other than leveling sequences
Jan 14, 2018 7:53 PM - WheresWaldo: If you use the Community version of 1.1.7 found here, there are definite print quality improvements. If for no other reason that the motion settings are better for the printer than the stock settings.

Jan 15, 2018 at 3:05 AM - Kilrah: yay, laser arrived
Jan 15, 2018 at 4:58 AM - daniel871: Firmware has a lot less to do with print quality than: The settings in your slicer software, quality of filament & quality of machine.
Jan 15, 2018 at 5:04 AM - WheresWaldo: Dan, of course that is true, since nearly every setting in firmware can be set in Gcode. But why not start with a good base. Let the firmware hardware have a fighting chance to do all the things ist is supposed to do, then you only need minor tweaks specific to filament or model in your slicer.
Jan 15, 2018 at 5:20 AM - Geof: Happy Monday
Jan 15, 2018 at 5:23 AM - WheresWaldo: Morning Geof, how was your weekend?
Jan 15, 2018 at 5:33 AM - Geof: not to shabby. Didn't do much, the lady was sick so only ran the Moai (the others were bugging her migraine :()
Jan 15, 2018 at 5:34 AM - Geof: How about you?
Jan 15, 2018 at 5:35 AM - Scott Tobin: Well my Monday sucks because the printer isn’t working again
Jan 15, 2018 at 5:36 AM - Scott Tobin: It looks like the x axis is shifting mid print.
    Jan 15, 2018 at 5:43 AM - Geof: R1 series or R2/C2
Jan 15, 2018 at 5:50 AM - WheresWaldo: Had to get a new keyboard. Spilled Coke on mine, thankl goodness I had insurance so cost was just the difference. Finally got my Cherry MX Brown switch mechanical keyboard.
Jan 15, 2018 at 5:52 AM - WheresWaldo: Other than that watched some football and spent most of Sunday relaxing. No printing at all.
Jan 15, 2018 at 6:03 AM - Geof: insurance on a keyboard? Hardcore man lol.
    Jan 15, 2018 at 6:21 AM - WheresWaldo: Yep
Jan 15, 2018 at 6:21 AM - WheresWaldo: Allowed me to return for price paid and get a new upgrade for the difference.
    Jan 15, 2018 at 6:22 AM - Geof: thats pretty slick. I use a 2 dolla keyboard ;) lol
Jan 15, 2018 at 6:29 AM - WheresWaldo: Once you switch to a mechanical keyboard, you have one that will last nearly forever. Plus onld people like me that learned to type on IBM selectric typewriters prefer the comforting click they provide, gamers prefer them also.
Jan 15, 2018 at 6:33 AM - WheresWaldo: I actually have an IBM Model M clone made by Unicomp. It even uses new buckling spring switches and will outlive me. http://www.pckeyboard.com/page/product/UB40P3A
Jan 15, 2018 at 9:49 AM - Greg Sheets: afternoon all... digging my way out of the holidays and wife's "forced" move of R1(kickstarter) from basement to upstairs office, urgh! Anyway, I'm on 1.1.0RC6. It works with MESH, and I"ve been hesitant on upgrading firmware. Is 1.1.7 or .8 good to load or do they have issues?
Jan 15, 2018 at 11:20 AM - Geof: unsure, I'm still using an old firmware and have no issues. Big fan of not broke, dont fix it :D
Jan 15, 2018 at 11:44 AM - mark tomlinson: Someone 'gets' it :)
    Jan 15, 2018 at 11:52 AM - Geof: I'm hovering that line today ;)
Jan 15, 2018 at 2:08 PM - Scott Tobin: Back to the x axis shift mid print it is on a R1+ new from amzon... returned another one with the same issue... Works good for 100hrs or so printing then does this.
Jan 15, 2018 at 2:23 PM - Scott Tobin: Dont believe it is the slicer... does it on both cura and matter control

Jan 16, 2018 at 6:32 AM - Geof: Hey Scott if you wold please start a trouble shooting thread. Axis skips are typically pretty easy to fix and can avoid a return :D
Jan 16, 2018 at 7:52 AM - daniel871: Based on what I've seen on the Internet, the eventual creation of Skynet is going to be entirely due to the presence of Nazis and Furries.

Jan 17, 2018 6:08 AM - WheresWaldo: Plus they have some promotions running too. Never used it before but it is cheap enough to try out.

Jan 17, 2018 6:15 AM - daniel871: I think Geof may have tried them the last time they had spools in stock and ran a sale.

Jan 17, 2018 9:29 AM - Geof: Waldo, its junk. I bought 10 spools and was able to run 3.
Jan 17, 2018 9:30 AM - Geof: issues midway through the rolls.
Jan 17, 2018 9:30 AM - Geof: they replaced the spools and whatnot and I have not had a chance to try (not all 8, just a few)
Jan 17, 2018 9:30 AM - Geof: they ended up refunding me as well.
Jan 17, 2018 9:41 AM - WheresWaldo: Good to know
Jan 17, 2018 4:08 PM - Scott Tobin: There is a brand called Tianse filament on amazon which usually sells for 18 a kg but frequently goes on sale for 15 and I have had great luck with it.
Jan 17, 2018 4:24 PM - Scott Tobin: Seems to also be on there rebranded as repko filament for 13
Jan 17, 2018 5:00 PM - Geof: I use a lot of repko. Colors arnt as opaque as I'd like but it runs well
Jan 17, 2018 5:26 PM - Scott Tobin: I upgraded to that 1.1.7 firmware made by danzca and i seem to have an underextrusion problem now. Im still using the stock hotend. It runs normal ish looking if I set the flow to about 200 but I kinda want to figure out what is up with it.

Jan 17, 2018 8:10 PM - WheresWaldo: Look for the extruder calibration video by Thomas Sanladerer.
Jan 18, 2018 8:25 AM - Greg Sheets: anybody done a TMC2130 conversion yet? Looking at Tom's video and hearing the difference between before and after, now that my printer is located in my home office, I'm intrigued and interested.
Jan 18, 2018 8:58 AM - Kilrah: Nope, but my stepper smoothers just arrived...
Jan 18, 2018 9:08 AM - Kilrah: and some key switches for the laser
Jan 18, 2018 9:33 AM - Scott Tobin: Thanks for the calibration video... @Kilrah how affective are those stepper smoothers? they sound very inticing.
    Jan 18, 2018 9:34 AM - Geof: Greg, R1 SERIES or R2?
Jan 18, 2018 9:36 AM - Kilrah: @WheresWaldo posted a thread on the forum showing they seemed to have quite some effect. I have literally received them just now so not mounted yet obviously
Jan 18, 2018 9:45 AM - Greg Sheets: @Geof: R1 (kickstarter) heavily modified. I'm also considering changing the LMU bearings too.
Jan 18, 2018 9:46 AM - Geof: should be able to add them easily then.
    Jan 18, 2018 9:47 AM - Greg Sheets: @Kilrah: What stepper smoothers?
Jan 18, 2018 9:48 AM - Kilrah: The banggood ones, same he got I believe
Jan 18, 2018 9:48 AM - Greg Sheets: are these mechanical or electronic snubbers?
Jan 18, 2018 9:49 AM - Geof: electric. Wheres waldo has a post in the R2 section on them.
    Jan 18, 2018 9:49 AM - Kilrah: http://community.robo3d.com/index.php?threads/stepper-smoother.20051/
Jan 18, 2018 9:50 AM - Kilrah: mine have much bigger diodes than on the pic though, guess that's a good thing :D
    Jan 18, 2018 9:50 AM - Geof: Bragger :D lol
Jan 18, 2018 11:21 AM - Kilrah: ok doing a reference print before installing
Jan 18, 2018 12:57 PM - Kilrah: ok, can see absolutely no difference lol
Jan 18, 2018 12:58 PM - Kilrah: maybe cause i couldn't see any related imperfection before in the first place :D
Jan 18, 2018 12:58 PM - Kilrah: sound is a little nicer indeed
Jan 18, 2018 1:52 PM - Greg Sheets: I'm a bit confused, the link sent by @Kilrah shows 8 diodes on a pcb, but the schematic only shows 4 diodes. Being an electrical engineer, the only purpose of the diodes is to drop the voltage by ~0.7 volts when forward biased and only ~0.1 volts when reverse biased.
Jan 18, 2018 2:18 PM - Scott Tobin: Anyone know if anyone has sucsesfully installed a bowden splitter on an r1/r1+?
Jan 18, 2018 5:15 PM - jim3Dbot: The S3G or 1N5404 diodes @Kilrah notes forward drop will be 0.7v @ 350ma shown, but 1.2v @ 3amp surges, but the diodes are implimented to clip quick changing fields of the steppers coils......
Jan 18, 2018 5:17 PM - jim3Dbot: Eight diodes are just extra protection, you only need two diodes in each winding of the stepper....thus 4 is fine

Jan 18, 2018 at 8:32 PM - WheresWaldo: That is the whole idea behind them, remove transient spikes in the waveform. That is supposed to make the stepper run smoother (get it). Smoother operation should mean fewer stepper artifacts and/or faster print speeds.
Jan 18, 2018 at 11:31 PM - jim3Dbot: Yep Exactly, the diodes are just extra protection.....reducing transients resulting in a cleaner more sinusoidal waveform..........worthwhile install.......
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:27 AM - WheresWaldo: @jim3Dbot, I installed them about two weeks ago and found them to be useful. I was able to increase print speeds by 40-50% with an increase in print quality (no ringing and no stepper artifacts). I am happy I experimented with them.
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:36 AM - Geof: Waldo, did you just install on X and Y?
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:36 AM - Geof: or did you go for Z too since you had 3?
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:48 AM - WheresWaldo: X/Y, saw no point in Z, travels too slowly to care.
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:48 AM - WheresWaldo: The R2 doesn't seem to suffer from any of the normal types of Z artifacts.
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:49 AM - WheresWaldo: It might help the Extruder stepper run cooler, but I don't know as I didn't try.
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:52 AM - Geof: gotya. Was just curious. Bought a few sets to play around with on the large format machines.
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:52 AM - Geof: Gmax screams when printing, if it chills out X and Y I'd be thrilled. Dont much care for hte print quality...volume :D
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:53 AM - Geof: Type A just does wierd stuff with accel and decel so maybe they will help there . Who knows. Will be fun to move them machine to machine and see what shakes.
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:55 AM - WheresWaldo: If it works, then its a cheap upgrade, if it doesn't you lose less than the cost of a spool of filament.
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:55 AM - WheresWaldo: We have all wasted money on stupid things.
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:56 AM - Geof: my thoughts as well. You said they went well I have one buddy that said he had issues long term but when they were new they worked well (not same brand or type) so I figure what the hell.
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:57 AM - Geof: I bought a few 3pks and will see what shakes for me. I have 4 large formats but likely wotn put them all on there. I'd like to stick on on a zortrax for giggles, maybe CR 10, but for sure Gmax and Type A.
Jan 19, 2018 at 5:58 AM - Geof: it would be to much cash to add them as an experiment to all the machines so R1 machines are just not gonna get the love lol.
    Jan 19, 2018 at 6:15 AM - WheresWaldo: Understood
Jan 19, 2018 at 6:55 AM - daniel871: The Einsy Rambo used in the Prusa is available now. https://ultimachine.com/products/einsy-rambo-1-1
Jan 19, 2018 at 7:10 AM - Greg Sheets: I just ordered Einsy Rambo. Look forward to experimenting with the board and its features
Jan 19, 2018 at 7:14 AM - daniel871: I do like that it has the TCM drivers instead of the much noisier 4988 drivers.
Jan 19, 2018 at 7:15 AM - mark tomlinson: Had issues with the Rambo on my delta. Still not a bad card, but not my fave.
Jan 19, 2018 at 7:16 AM - mark tomlinson: This is a newer model I know. Let us know how it goes
Jan 19, 2018 at 8:16 AM - Geof: I'm a bit perplexed as to why the rambo is so "highly admired". y ou can put the same drivers from the einsy on a ramps no? Same computing power...so the only advantage is the replaceable auto fuses?
Jan 19, 2018 at 8:26 AM - mark tomlinson: Given the price of Rambo boards (normally) it is not exactly a win in most cases.
Jan 19, 2018 at 8:27 AM - sgomes: I think it's mostly the fact that it's all in one, and set up from the start with all the advanced features, like controllable voltages over SPI and afaik the ability to build a printer without endstops by looking at the back EMF for each motor. At least that's what the i3 mk3 does using this board.
Jan 19, 2018 at 8:33 AM - mark tomlinson: I agree that the all-in-one boards are pricier. Nice features too. replacement is the part that begins to stink since you are not swapping a cheaper part :) On the plus side, I have not, yet, had the Rambo need replacement. It is a couple of years newer that some of them though.
    Jan 19, 2018 at 8:36 AM - Geof: :D
    Jan 19, 2018 at 2:45 PM - Scott Tobin: https://www.thingiverse.com/groups/robo-3d/forums/general/topic:15186
Jan 19, 2018 at 2:46 PM - Scott Tobin: Any thoughts on that mod^... looks like it would be pretty cool if it works, have to change the ramps board though.

    Jan 20, 2018 5:04 AM - WheresWaldo: Dan, how's it going?
Jan 20, 2018 7:47 AM - Greg Sheets: yes, I live in near RDU
Jan 20, 2018 3:45 PM - John in MS: I haven't printed any this week due to the cold. Yesterday was warm enough to print so I began a print only to discover i had a jam so i turned it off for the night. Today i changed out to another extruder instead of fighting that jam. I had used inn the past with no problem. It was working fine at first. The extruder would warm to 210 and the bed would warm to 60. I am running PLA. To start I did a calibration cube. I began fine, doing auto

    Jan 26, 2018 5:45 AM - Geof: Morning gents
    Jan 26, 2018 6:02 AM - WheresWaldo: Morning jim3Dbot and Geof
Jan 26, 2018 6:04 AM - Geof: hey Waldo how goes it.
Jan 26, 2018 6:05 AM - WheresWaldo: Not too bad, and yourself
Jan 26, 2018 6:07 AM - WheresWaldo: I have a clone Titan Extruder coming Saturday.
Jan 26, 2018 6:10 AM - WheresWaldo: @Geof, did you get your stepper smoothers?
Jan 26, 2018 6:12 AM - Geof: No, ordered. waiting.
Jan 26, 2018 6:13 AM - Geof: Hangin in there man. Designing trays for the toolbox to clean up my messy ways lol
Jan 26, 2018 6:15 AM - WheresWaldo: I printed a couple of pencil holders for my daughter to take to work, that is about it besides modeling a couple of new bicycle mounts.
Jan 26, 2018 6:16 AM - Geof: gotya. I need some better socket holders (all drive sizes) and would like some better wrench holders.
Jan 26, 2018 6:16 AM - Geof: then work on the files, squares, mics, calipers, etc etc. its just all thrown into a few roll around chests right now, not great lol.
Jan 26, 2018 6:17 AM - WheresWaldo: I am at the same point, designed and printed a new soldering tip holder and rework tip holder but now I need to hold more tools, so a redesigning is in order.
Jan 26, 2018 6:21 AM - WheresWaldo: Do any of your printers use Anti-Backlash Lead Screw Nuts?
Jan 26, 2018 6:50 AM - daniel871: I... kinda want to get one of these and put it on a Mega2560 and see how well StallGuard works as an alternative to homing switches on my knockoff i3. https://www.digikey.de/product-deta...gregator&curr=eur&site=us&utm_source=octopart
Jan 26, 2018 6:51 AM - daniel871: Only thing is I'm not sure how big a hassle configuring the firmware would be.
    Jan 26, 2018 6:51 AM - daniel871: More info about that board here: https://www.trinamic.com/support/eval-kits/details/trams/
Jan 26, 2018 7:11 AM - Geof: Hey Waldo just saw your question. The only machine that uses antibacklash is my Gmax and its just the "nuts" for the 2 lead screws. Nothing fancy.
Jan 26, 2018 7:11 AM - Geof: the other large formats are belt driven, rail driven or rollers on extrusions
Jan 26, 2018 7:20 AM - WheresWaldo: I am only asking because I thought it might work for the R2. Not sure it would actually improve anything. May be a bunch of work for nothing. But it might be a learning experience.
Jan 26, 2018 7:20 AM - WheresWaldo: Following stuff in Shoutbox is about as effective as following stuff on Facebook.
Jan 26, 2018 7:24 AM - WheresWaldo: Dan, why not use a standard RAMPS board with TMC2130 Stepper drivers https://www.filastruder.com/products/silentstepstick-tmc2130-stepper-motor-driver
Jan 26, 2018 7:46 AM - Geof: Waldo, are you seeing backlash or inconsistencies in your z height? I would think if no that it wouldn't be worth the effort?
Jan 26, 2018 7:50 AM - WheresWaldo: Not really, if there were a lot of big upand down moves I might see some. The R2 is actually pretty stable, it was more of 'If it can be done,' as well as "Should it be done.'
Jan 26, 2018 8:08 AM - WheresWaldo: I hate FACEBOOK, they just suspended my account for stupid reasons and removed all my posts.
    Jan 26, 2018 8:16 AM - Geof: I'm also not a fan of them.
Jan 26, 2018 8:16 AM - Geof: I'd think (even with multiple up downs) being as solid as it is should be ok, think antibacklash would be better served on the DLP
Jan 26, 2018 8:20 AM - WheresWaldo: You won't see me on the Robo Elite group any more. Too hard to follow conversations. Group is too small to be useful. Not many that actually do anything other than print Thingiverse stuff. I don't see any value at all.
Jan 26, 2018 8:21 AM - WheresWaldo: It would be better to have a private group on this forum https://aliensoup.com/threads/xenforo-creating-private-forums.48728/
Jan 26, 2018 8:22 AM - WheresWaldo: At least that way we could follow conversations and refer back to them. Facebook is for people that only care about what is currently on their minds.
    Jan 26, 2018 8:23 AM - WheresWaldo: Okay I feel better now.
Jan 26, 2018 8:25 AM - Geof: :D Not a fan of facebook so totally get it. Seems its more of a projects section and troubelshooting section mashed into one long "thread" which is a bit...meh.
Jan 26, 2018 8:30 AM - WheresWaldo: So far it is a Elites that want help and then some that provide help, but not as useful as a forum. But, not to lump all under 30's together, it is primarliy that group that does not understand the dynamic of dialogue, so FB is perfect for them. It is all about what they want to say and not so much about creating a dialogue. Twitter is just as effective a platform for interchange as FB.
Jan 26, 2018 8:34 AM - WheresWaldo: I think we should have a private forum instead, or in addition to the private FB group. At least that way we can keep track of stuff. If it turns out that all you get are requests for help then those threads can be moved to the public forums. Nearly every other special interest forum I use has private forums.
Jan 26, 2018 8:40 AM - Geof: I dont believe they (Robo) has an interest in using this forum honestly otherwise its where it would have been.
Jan 26, 2018 8:41 AM - Geof: my guess would be facebook is where they are most active?
Jan 26, 2018 9:00 AM - daniel871: Waldo, I'm looking at that board because in order to use the advanced features of the 2130 you have to do some wire soldering to connect the driver to the controller in a way that it can provide feedback to the controller and actually work with the firmware.
Jan 26, 2018 9:00 AM - daniel871: Their custom board already has all of that work done.
Jan 26, 2018 9:01 AM - daniel871: My fingers aren't steady enough to do any delicate soldering any more.
Jan 26, 2018 9:18 AM - WheresWaldo: Dan, No one has driver board already set up with the proper feeback layout?
Jan 26, 2018 9:24 AM - daniel871: All I've seen have been instructable-type guides on how to wire it up with breadboards and soldering.
    Jan 26, 2018 9:25 AM - daniel871: Tom has a guide, too.
Jan 26, 2018 9:29 AM - daniel871: Basically, no, nobody sells the drivers already set up for plugging things in without having to do the soldering yourself.
Jan 26, 2018 9:29 AM - WheresWaldo: I watched Tom's video, that was one reason I didn't want to do all that work.
Jan 26, 2018 9:32 AM - daniel871: That's why I'm eyeballing that other board. It's almost worth the price tag to me just to not have to fuck with it, as it's not that much more expensive than just the drivers and I won't have to solder a fucking thing.
Jan 26, 2018 9:33 AM - daniel871: I mean, $14 for a stepper driver at Filastruder and I still have to solder all of the pins myself? Fuck that.
Jan 26, 2018 9:36 AM - daniel871: Wait. 5x$14 is $70 and that board is $73.51 at Digikey. Yeah, my time is worth a lot more than $3.51.
Jan 26, 2018 10:03 AM - WheresWaldo: Dan, that TRAMS board runs Marlin but I can't tell offhand what version they provide. It is pre MESH and pre BILINEAR.
Jan 26, 2018 10:04 AM - WheresWaldo: With some work I am sure you can get Marlin Bugfix 1.1.x running on this board.
Jan 26, 2018 11:46 AM - Kilrah: working on adding laser support to marlin...
Jan 26, 2018 1:29 PM - Kilrah: welp that worked
    Jan 26, 2018 1:29 PM - Kilrah: https://imgur.com/a/o2pL9
Jan 26, 2018 1:33 PM - WheresWaldo: @Kilrah, did you install the laser where the second extruder would normally go?
Jan 26, 2018 1:33 PM - Kilrah: nah, too big
Jan 26, 2018 1:34 PM - Kilrah: i extremely crudely stuck it to the front with double sided tape for now :D
    Jan 26, 2018 1:34 PM - Kilrah: [IMG]
    Jan 26, 2018 1:35 PM - WheresWaldo: Pretty ghetto. ;)
Jan 26, 2018 1:37 PM - Kilrah: works better than expected even, can see gcode obviously wasn't well defined enough
Jan 26, 2018 1:38 PM - Kilrah: would still rather mount it on the cnc to avoid the acceleration problems
Jan 26, 2018 1:38 PM - Kilrah: but that was a quicker way to get going
Jan 26, 2018 1:38 PM - Kilrah: i don't think i can spare any enable output on my current cnc controller...

Jan 29, 2018 at 7:48 AM - daniel871: If anything, the "tide pod" whatever is getting *more* "popular".
Jan 29, 2018 at 7:49 AM - daniel871: Saw a bit on the local news just this weekend where anchors were doing the whole "Please tell your children not to do this, it will severely harm them if not kill them" etc.
Jan 29, 2018 at 8:12 AM - Geof: good lord.
Jan 29, 2018 at 10:56 AM - WheresWaldo: Geof, you service your R2 regularly, have you noticed any oxidation or scoring on the 8 mm gantry rails?
Jan 29, 2018 at 10:58 AM - Geof: nothing yet. I'm expecting to on the rails with the bushings. Ultimaker does it too. Scotchbright with oil brightens them back up.
    Jan 29, 2018 at 10:58 AM - Geof: (the 8mm ones)
Jan 29, 2018 at 10:58 AM - Geof: I also use 3 in 1 oil not grease. On the UM grease just didn't cut it, 3 in 1 oil or sewing machine oil worked great.
Jan 29, 2018 at 10:59 AM - WheresWaldo: Yes just the 8 mm ones. I use a wax lube as it doesn't attract dust and stays cleaner, but I am wondering if it isn't applied too thin.
Jan 29, 2018 at 11:01 AM - Geof: very possibly? The 3 in 1 leaves a nice sheen all the way down the rods. Lithium on the UM ends in what your describing your seeing on the R2.
Jan 29, 2018 at 11:16 AM - WheresWaldo: Light machine oil (like 3 in 1 or sewing machine oil) is a dust magnet. I stopped using it in nearly every application that requires oiling. It attracts dirt almost as much as WD40 (which is not a lube).
Jan 29, 2018 at 11:17 AM - Geof: :D works great for all my machines, I do maintenance often though.
