So I was still having some printing problems using Simplify3d and the new firmware on my robo3d r1. Even After calibrating... Decided to flash the old firmware with default settings, and reset Simplify3d back to default robo settings...new test print looking better than this print from yesterday did... but can't talk too soon.

Looking better, will post updated pics soon... but default values z is too short... vertical circles shorter top to bottom than side to side....

Either you're over extruding or the Z axis isn't moving up properly

Make sure your bottom cooling fan is running and that it's getting good airflow by lifting up the printer

Actually problem was solved by resetting to the old firmware and raising the z axis values by 40 steps... Not sure whats different with the old and new firmware. I have a robo3d r1 with auto level, not the PLUS.

the Z steps/MM are different between the R1+ and the 'classic' R1

    I used the
    ROBO R1 Firmware 3.0
    Released 06/10/15
that caused my problems, backed out to the old one and things were better.

I would not have thought that one would be incorrect.
You could sanity check the Z steps/mm in configuration.H, but as long as it is working :)

I am not a proponent for updating the firmware on a functional machine without a specific goal

The value of Z steps per mm is a calculated one. You shouldn't be adjusting that beyond the calculated value.

    R1 - 5/16" model - 2267.72
    R1 - M8 model - 2560
    R1 - Lead screw model - 800

How do I know which one I have? I think I have the m8 because a 5/16 nut would not go on it... What is the lead screw model??
I used a caliper and cut a stick to be exactly 100 mm. When I jog control the z axis up 100 mm It went to about 95mm, this was verified when printing calibration objects, I had to do some tweaking, but it appears ok now. Not sure if I have bad steppers or am skipping steps, but it seems ok now. I never adjusted any speeds in simplify3d or matter control.

Measuring the thread pitch is the best way. You can also use a nut if you have them

For M8 it's ~21 threads per inch or 1.25mm per thread.

For 5/16 it's 18 threads per inch or ~1.41mm per thread

The Lead screw model is the R1+ as they call it.

Sounds like it's skipping steps to me

so if I am skipping steps is it best to just slow things down?
