    It's a top-mount spool holder for the Robo3D.
It mounts at the top of the case, using the filament slot.
Print parts "right, left, middle.stl" and choose if you want the plain spool holder top part or the one with two holes for hanging your most used tools(tweezres/spatula..?)
Push towards either end of the slot until it sits firmly.
Have been using it for weeks and even though I have taken it apart and reassembled it numerous times, still functions reliably.

Spooling the filament from above is a good move.

Can accommodate spools up to 10cm wide.

Haven't used many different brands, so not sure if wider ones exist.

The ones I use are 8cm wide.

If wider than 10cm do exist, let me know how wide they are.

Wouldn't take more than one minute to add a wider version.

The reason I'm not including editable files is that not everyone uses Sketchup, so will be useless for most people anyway.

Sorry for the late reply, the one i'm using right now is 13.2 cm wide, so a 14cm bridge would be ok

but i ordered Robo Filament, i'm not sure what is the width for those

Thamer, are you using 2.2kg spools? I haven't seen any spools even close to that wide.
The robo spools are under 10cm. Those are pretty much the widest I have seen or heard of for 1kg.

The higher quality filaments (like the form futura that keraynopoylos is using) are typically provided on the same size spool as in your pic to prevent the filament from taking on a tight radius as you get towards the end of the spool which can cause jams.

As I said it is very easy to extend the two horizontal pieces in order to be able to fit the spool you describe.

    I'm not very keen though, because I haven't tried it(and can't try it as I dont have a 2.2kg spool-filament).

I know from my experience that for the normal-casual 1kg ones, the holder copes well and there's no way it might crack. I can not be sure if it would manage the extra weight with no issues. I believe it would, but can't be certain.

Great stuff ker. Reminds me of another top spool holder on thingiverse but much nicer features.

Oh, yeah, I've seen it before. I do like it a lot.

The only thing in common between the two though is that they're both top-mount types.

Btw mine holds spools up to 100mm wide and the one on your link 126mm and greater. In this aspect, they prob compliment each other.

    Glad you liked it.

Thames, if you want the editable sketchup files or you want me to mod it for wider spools, let me know. Try it out first though to see how it handles the extra weight.

That's odd. Opens up fine for me...

Have you tried only once? If so, please try again. Could be a one time error of the thingiverse's database.

Anyone else got this error message?

I would not bring back an old thread unless I had something to add to it.

    I really like the keraynopoylos's spool holder. ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:188820 )
I added my Make of it on Thingiverse.
keraynopoylos, can you share the Sketchup files, maybe on Thingiverse? I was trying to do a remix with different tool holes for the tools I use, but editing the STL in Sketchup is painful.

My problem with the one Mike Kelly shared ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:158289 ) is that it required bolts that I didn't have.

I also saw this top mount spool holder for the Robo 3d, http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:232391
I like it, but the only real benefit is the width adjustment. I already use keraynopoylos's spool holder and it works for me.

And I also found this top mount spool holder for the Robo 3d, http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:216117
It looks like it may be harder to change spools with than the other two.
