    12v, 130w (although you could probably live with 150w max)

    12 v 25 w minimum if you are speaking of the hotend cartridge heating element.

    The hotend uses 12v heater cores. You don't want to swap in a 24v heater core because it will not work very well :)

    Is there a place to get replacement cartage heaters and thermistors?

    US = Amazon*, PrintedSolid.com
    Everywhere else = China

    * Please note that Amazon sells the exact same parts from the exact same country of origin as direct from China.

    One added advantage to Amazon is that if you buy via a Prime seller then you are getting a warranty that Amazon is quick to enforce :)

    I've seen 12 volt elements with 30 watts, 40 watts, and 50 watts being sold. A 24 volt element could be used if you want to use a solid state controller with a separate 24 volt power supply, but I don't think that it will be worth the extra expense unless you could find one with a higher wattage than 50 watts.

    The only difference between one rated at 12v and another rated at 24v is the overall resistance of the cartridge. They are in effect interchangeable and there is no need for additional circuitry. If you are using what a vendor claims is a 24v heater cartridge and are only running 12v though it just adjust the wattage value in your head.

    @BrooklynBay please don't make things more complicated than they are with misinformation.

    So how would you calculate the difference in wattage between a 12 volt & 24 volt element which is rated at 40 watts? Volts X Amps = Watts. I would assume that the 24 volt element would take longer to reach the same temperature if it's running at 12 volts.

    @BrooklynBay Although the relationship at the two specified voltages seems like it should just be 2 to 1 and for the sake of our discussion it is, heater cartridges do not exhibit a constant resistive load as temperature increases. Nevertheless, for the most part heater cartridges are a purely resistive load and the fact of how they are manufactured means there really aren't any 12v vs 24v cartridges at the lowest end used in 3D printers. You can use the following formulas if you want to calculate it for yourself.
    • V = I*R
    • I = V/R
    • P = I^2 * R = V^2 / R
    ideally since there can be 10% or more deviation in resistance readings between a cold cartridge and a hot cartridge you want to measure it when it is powered and heated, not entirely necessary for our discussion but more accurate.

    I have run the 40w in all my FDM printers. No problems there. Heats much faster.
