Maybe a noob type question, but in my experience, it seems like it does more harm than good with PLA. Overhangs seem to curl up more when I run the fan.
What benefits might I be missing out on, not running it? and
What problems might I be causing for myself?
    Thanx :)

Some models need cooling, particularly small models. Curling is a direct result of over-heating not over-cooling.
Make sure your parts fan actually points at the layer extruded not at the heat block (which many times it does).
